Bucs Pass Defense Should Improve Tonight

September 11th, 2022

Few targets.

Has it really come down to a USFL player for America’s Team’s passing attack?

Joe has already written how the Bucs are potentially missing a massive production from last year’s thrilling season-opening win against Dallas. Well, it seems Dallas’ passing attack has now become a one-trick pony.

The Cowboys have Pro Bowl receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is special. After that? Well, it might be a USFL receiver, KaVontae Turpin at 155 pounds. Yeah, that’s how low it’s gone for Dallas.

Michael Gallup will not play tonight. So that leaves Dallas with one capable, proven NFL receiver.

Jon Machota of The Athletic speaks to Kay Adams — yes, that Kay Adams — on FanDuel TV about who may the Bucs defense may key on after Lamb.

“Nobody outside CeeDee Lamb in the wide receiver room has caught a touchdown pass in the NFL,” Machota explains, noting that USFL MVP Turpin is the Cowboys’ secret weapon.

    JTS!

  2. Pewter Power Says:

Wouldn’t be the first time an unknown receiver roasted our secondary. This should be a blowout, it won’t but should.

  3. August 1976 Buc Says:

Enough with the talk about the secondary actually playing better until it is proven onthe feild. We will see if Dak picks on Dean again or not. It was stealing candy from a baby last year for Dak against Dean. I hope Dean steps up, but we will see. Its hard to generate a consistant pass rush if your DBs line up amd concede first downs. Time to jam wr’s at the line, play with some fight this time against Dak. At least sometimes.

    GO BUCS!!!

  4. Youngbucs Says:

The secondary has been balling since 2019. In the top five in turnovers every year.

  5. dmatt Says:

Let’s not jump the gun on this because over the years we’ve played n anticipated on dominating teams with 4th string/practice squad/fresh off the street qbs n wrs only to be in for a shock. I’m all in for the hype but we’ve gotta have more than one capable player to win this game. I’ll keep a close eye on JDean n SMB.

  6. Gbobucsfan Says:

Schultz and Lamb are enough to give our secondary trouble. Prove me wrong fellas !!! Prove me wrong !!

  7. Lt. Dan Says:

    And what about Dalton Schultz?

  8. SB~LV Says:

Many upset and close to upsets in college yesterday, I except some of that today.

  9. Oddball Says:

Yup. What Pewter said about unknowns.

Crazy college day. My NU guys let me down, but damn insane amount of upsets and/or way too close games for teams that actually matter.
1st week always the craziest, as we have no idea. Let’s hope we prove to be better than even we think!
    Undefeated until we aren’t!
    Suh.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Is it just me or does Kay Adams look even better…..

Our secondary will be better….period ….no mater who the receivers are.

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

    Double Lamb.

  13. Cobraboy Says:

Turnovers and penalties made the 2021 ‘Boys game a LOT closer than it should have been…

  14. D-Rok Says:

Silence the Lamb. Censor Sgt Shultz. We’ll be alright.

    GO BUCS!!!

  15. JimBuc2 Says:

Last time I remember VV ragdolling half the Dallas Oline all by himself on the way to Dak. Now lining up with Hicks that equals 700 lbs of badazz manmeat bringing the heat. I almost feel sorry for Dak and his gimpy ankle. Almost.
    Go Bucs!

  16. Goatfarmer Says:

In other news, let’s pull for Mariota and the Foulclowns to miraculously upset JaMiss and the Slimy Saints. And for the Jacoby Brissett Browns to make litter out of the Carolina Kittens and the most overhyped NFL QB of this century.

  17. Infomeplease Says:

    Won’t be long now!!! LFG!!!!

  18. Gronk-E Says:

Ceedee Lamb chop is nothing but a sock puppet!

  19. Ron Potter Says:

I’m looking forward to our youngry refurbished DL! Hall, Hicks, Tryon, Barrett, Vea… our defense should be better and should show out tonight! More pressure should generate more sacks, more TOs and better field positions for our offense against a Dallas offense with a lot of unknowns and absent of Cooper and Gallup.

  20. MonkeyMan Says:

    Start the game already!!!

This is just cause to put the bottle down.

Hey I don’t even think Jane Tryon will make one notable play.

  22. Kgh4life Says:

Some people are saying to double Cee Deev Lamb, that’s not Bowles forte and I think it will continue tonight. Look for Lamb to have a good night lining up across from Dean. Not sure if that will be enough for the Cowboys to win though.

  23. Dooley Says:

    “This should be a blowout”

Is a ridiculous expectation considering this is STILL the NFL lol and football don’t care about projected advantages just look at App State last night. People saying double Lamb, are the same people who THINK they know how Bowles’ work and they clearly don’t. Those are the same people wishing we’d play more press man and give opposing WRs less space to clear so they can run past our CBs lol because that’s what you’re doing when you’re trying to smother WRs at the LOS, which NO defensive mind deploys over the entirety of a game.

  24. Don’t make a scene 35 Says:

If our D plays up to their potential
Then we might have to start saying this again

    Gravediggers !!!
    Let’s start digging
    Go Bucs

  25. August 1976 Buc Says:

You cannot play off the WR all the time, you have to jam the WR at the line.to disrup the timing sometimes, not just lay back and concede 1st downs, and nuetralize your own pass rush because you just let the QB play pitch and catch with the WR. Time to show some fight, not just get picked on by a QB like Dak did abuding Dean last year. Hopefuuly there is improvement, unlike last years sh!t show pass defense against Dak.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  26. Dooley Says:

August, you don’t get beat deep when you keep your man in front of you, press coverage is the quickest way to get blown out in coverage. This isn’t 1985, there are rules that stop CBs from redirecting route like they used too, it’s not a debate just watch the game tonight watch how our CBs cover and you’ll realize your desire doesn’t line up with the practical application of our defense. It’s like Goatfarmer hearing how complex Bowles’ scheme is and turning that into a slight against Bowles because of w/e axe he has to grind against our new HC. I totally get watching football os one thing, understanding the X’s & O’s aren’t evident to everyone, but let’s not try to play connect 4 at a chess match

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Traditionally, even in years we’ve had a great defense…it has taken them a couple games to get up and running.

  28. Howard Cosell Says:

Despicable saints look lost without the head bounty hunter Sean Peyton. This warms Howards heart and fills him with gladness.

Winston already trying to force throws and aints run D look bad.
    Very happy thoughts!

Howard hopes they don’t go for Mariotas knees
