Todd Bowles Says Breshad Perriman Is Doubtful And Julio Jones Has “Setbacks;” No Bucs Ruled Out For Sunday

September 30th, 2022

“Whadday think, Julio. Please.”

The Bucs wrapped up practice in Miami early this afternoon and expect to return to Tampa in a hurry in advance of Sunday night’s Bucs-Chiefs game.

The good news from head coach Todd Bowles was that the team got good work in a the Dolphins’ facility and expect a relatively normal 48 hours leading up to the game, and it’s great to hear no player has been ruled out for Sunday because of injuries.

However, Bowles made it clear that Breshad Perriman (knee/hamstring) is doubtful and that Julio Jones (knee) is a unique question mark.

Jones could have played last Sunday, per Bowles, but he was held out against the Packers with a nod toward getting him fully healthy for the rest of the season. Joe presumes that was a tough decision given the importance of the Packers game.

Joe asked Bowles today if that could happen again Sunday. Bowles emphasized that Julio wasn’t healthy last Sunday, only available. And he noted that Julio could have setbacks in the 48 hours leading up to Sunday because that can happen with him.

“Sometimes he has setbacks and sometimes he doesn’t. So, we’ll wait until Sunday to make that decision to be sure,’ Bowles said.

    It’s hell getting old, man.

  2. Gofortheface30 Says:

Lol Perriman. This guy. Huge eyeroll, wtf else do you really expect. When he’s not out there dropping key passes he’s injured. Thank you Mike Evans, for being RELIABLE, week in and week out, every-year. They don’t make ‘em like you as much anymore.

  3. Marc Coppola Says:

    SIGN OBJ! NOW!!

  4. John Says:

    Bring back Grayson!

  5. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Grayson Obj get real guys y’all tripping. Bowels needs to bring BA back as Play caller and Gg we back

  6. Bucsfan13 Says:

Julio will play. Bowles knows the lack of production from this offense cannot continue. He admitted he was concerned last week. Hopefully, Bowles had a convo with Leftwich. Open up the damn playbook

  7. Bucamania Says:

The WR injuries are seemingly never ending. And yes, enough with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense.

  8. Killian Says:

Are Godwin and Smith playing? It’ll be nice having Evans and Beasley out there, but it would be way better if Godwin was also out there!

  9. Scurvy Dogs Says:

Cut Miller and Perriman. Bring in Grayson and OBJ.

  10. Gofortheface30 Says:

I don’t get all this OBJ noise from…well…just about everyone. Just so I’m clear – the solution to our never ending injuries at WR is to sign a WR that is ALWAYS injured himself. Cool!

  11. Ed Says:

I thought the Bucs had an injury settlement with Grayson. If he is healthy he is a heck of a lot better than Miller or Darden. No reason not to resign him if he is indeed healthy and available. He has good hands, great speed and is athletic.

Miller, great speed, unreliable hands, but no athleticism. Darden, good speed and thats mostly it.

One of the issues with both Miller and Darden is they don’t have a good catch radius and are both very short in height.

  12. Mike Says:

Grayson can’t be resigned until after week 8 I believe, due to the injury settlement.

  13. captivajim Says:

cut miller & Jones . bring in Grayson & OBJ

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Nobody ruled out really doesn’t say a lot…….for example, is there anyone here that thinks Hicks will play?

It sounds like there are really no questions with Godwin…….would be nice to have Julio also….but a combination of Evans, Godwin, Gage & Beasley would be very good.

  15. DoooshLaRue Says:

    GFTF30,

    So freaking true man

  16. Will Says:

WTH is with all this bring in OBJ talk. You mean the guy who blew out his knee in the Superbowl. That was after Godwin blew out his knee yet, some of y’all are screaming don’t rush Godwin back. How will bringing in OBJ help us right now?

  17. Melvin Junior Says:

    “SIGN OBJ! NOW!!“

All these people who KEEP screaming THIS over & over… Do They NOT KNOW That He (“obj”) will NOT Be ‘available’ for at least another couple of MONTHS (if ever at all, for this season)… I mean, there’s a ‘reason’ WHY he’s STILL sitting there, remaining unsigned. Annnndd, He’s ALWAYS Hurt, HIMSELF (seems-like he’s missed more games than he’s actually, even played-in, throughout the past 4-5 years)… Come-On Guy!!!!

  18. lambchop Says:

    @Gofortheface30,

My sentiments exactly. All we need is more injury-prone WRs. Let’s stack the room, but not the field.

  19. captivajim Says:

with all the hoopla of signing jones , gage + keeping Darden over Grayson; we have not replaced the production of Gronk and AB ..

Godwin should have Not played his first game on arttificial turf–but thats history. Godwin needs to take time & play his next 1st game on grass

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

How is Gage? he was the one grabbing his hammy last week.

  21. ocala Says:

If Julio could have gone 20-25 snaps last week that would’ve made a huge difference in the game.

  22. Infomeplease Says:

If Julio could go 20- 25 snaps on Sunday , that would make a difference!!

  23. Bucsfan13 Says:

This is a tricky game. The Chiefs have played Brady tough in his career. Spags and Brady know each other well dating back to when Spags was the DC for Giants and shutdown the Patriots. Chiefs run some complex blitzes with disguised coverages. Brady has been baited into mistakes with this defense. The OL will need to play lights out with great communication to pick up some of these blitzes. The receivers will need to see their hot routes quickly.

Goedeke has been a liability in pass pro , and he’s been below average in the run game. Hainsey has been serviceable in replacement of Jensen. We need Donnie back at LT. Walton played admirably, but he was flat out bad against the Packers.

  24. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Julio is ready to go… but he could have setbacks by doing nothing? OK… and Tua didn’t have a concussion, either.

  25. RightOnMan Says:

I knew this would happen once Bowles took over. He’s so bad he’ll wreck the GOAT’s last season. He just flat out sucks ass. Think it’s bad now? Wait until Gabbert is under center next year. Combined with a clueles OC and we will be in the basement of the South again.

  26. Crickett Baker Says:

Grayson back? Why? He has been on 6 teams and hardly did much for any. And we did do an injury settlement with him.

  27. gotbbucs Says:

Perriman slip getting out of the shower? This dude, seriously.

Training room has to be running low on Bengay cream trying to get all these old recievers back on the field.

  28. Buc king Says:

If we have Mike gage julio and Cole we should be good…can’t wait till Godwin is back n julio is healed up

  29. CGB Spender Says:

Let’s cut Julio and bring O’Dell in

  30. CGB Spender Says:

And by the way letting Johnson go to keep Scotty looks awful now

  31. unbelievable Says:

“Sometimes he has setbacks and sometimes he doesn’t.”

WTF does that mean? He’s old? Yeah, not chit….

  32. SOEbuc be Says:

I get more hyped about Beasly every day he continues with the Bucs. Gage has had a bad hamstring that has been noticeable since the beginning of camp. If we can get at least Mike and CG back on the regular. I wanted to tell people Julio is gonna be good and not get injured because he looked so good in camp. I was wrong.

You mean Tyler, who can’t even make the active roster of the Texans? LOL!

  34. BillyBucco Says:

I agree with the Tyler Johnson take.
Showing now why you keep him.
To my knowledge, he never got a nickname from Brady, so there’s that.

He could have helped us win the game, because apparently with extra weight, you can’t move your arms for hand checks.

  35. LVMYBUCS Says:

When will we stop hiring old people

  36. TJ Says:

For the record OBJ is 100% tracking a mid-late November return. So YES he will be available this year and contribute THIS year, the stretch run. Most likely the Rams, Packers, or Bills. We will probably be healthy by then at WR.

  37. AbucAway Says:

In other words: still no relief in site. Our receiving crew is still an easy way for a defense.
Evans is back! And in double coverage every single play because there still isn’t anyone to throw to!
    No CG.
    No perriman.
    Julio maybe but how limited.
Gage has been holding his hamstring so long now, you would think it’s his natural way.
    Dardone? Lol
Miller. Can’t catch and his threat is neuterd at the LOS.
    Beasley. Maybe some hope here.
    Fournette. Nope blocking.
    One of the TE’s? Not.

Yeah I’m being Mr negative here but GD, something has to give.

  38. BUCkleup Says:

Another unwatchable game by the O? How is our 45 year old QB outlasting our entire stable of wideouts. WTAF

  39. Mike Johnson Says:

The Falcons said Good-bye to Julio for a reason guys. He has seen his best days. I don’t have him coming back after this season. That is, if..he can make it thru the season. Nice experiment. But you can just about stick a fork in Julio. He’s done.

  40. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Ridiculous amount of injuries after 3 games. Jones, Hicks, Gage, Perriman, and Rudolph all appear to be useless and expensive signings. Bucs also need another RB to take the load off Fournette.

  41. adam from ny Says:

i see what julio jones is doing…

collecting a check after camouflaging us with a week one performance…

now he’s gonna disappear for the rest of the year and sprinkle himself into about 5 games…???

this is not what tom and the bucs signed up for with this dirty birdy

  42. Kgh4life Says:

I don’t get this obsession with OBJ. He’s had a long history of injuries himself, don’t forget he tore the same acl twice, which he’s currently rehabbing right now, so he won’t even be able until later in the season.

  43. Ghost of Tom Brady Says:

We need to cut ties with Julio now. Maybe we can find someone else, even one of our practice squad guys.

  44. steele Says:

The OBJ obsession is because he wins. When he’s on the field, is lucky to be on a good team, and timing is perfect aka late season/playoffs.

  45. steele Says:

Can a team that is this injured top to bottom be among the healthiest when it’s time to contend for the p-p-playoffs? Cuz that is what it will take, a reversal of what we’re seeing. Yes, they are doing a good job compromising the GOAT’s last season, not doing nearly enough to put a bulletproof team on the field.

  46. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Bowles is proving to be exactly what he was for the Jets … A horrible “head coach” … AMAZING defensive coordinator but as the leader of the whole team he doesn’t inspire them, he doesn’t demand greatness, he reminds me of the -boredom incarnate- that was Lovie Smith!!

  47. Melvin Junior Says:

    Exactly, TJ.

“ For the record OBJ is 100% tracking a mid-late November return. So YES he will be available this year and contribute THIS year, the stretch run. Most likely the Rams, Packers, or Bills. We will probably be healthy by then at WR.”

OBJ does absolutely, NOTHING for us, NOW… And, he’s been MORE “hurt” than Julio seemingly, during the past few years. So, we sign OBJ (with WHAT… I’m SURE ‘other needs’ will arise by then), & just hope (barring any ‘setbacks’ ) he’s “available” by Thanks-Fricken-GIVING!? Then, pray he hasn’t lost a step, & to get LUCKY that he makes it thru the of the season without getting hurt, AGAIN… No. Thanks. Hopefully, the dudes we have will be mostly healthy, by then!!!! If, they’re not… THEN, we’ll do whatever we have to do.
