“I Owed It To My Teammates”

September 6th, 2022

Bradyspeak.

Tom Brady famously said last year that 90 percent of what he says publicly is baloney, which makes a thinking man wonder whether that statement was baloney, too.

Whatever Tom Brady tells media, Joe views it through the lens of Brady being a calculated communicator who is painting pictures — and sometimes the pictures he wants seen don’t represent reality.

Brady hopped on his Let’s Go! show on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio last night and got quite artistic when asked about why he unretired.

First, Brady said he thought he had “a little left” in the playing department and that his competitive fire still burns. Then he declared he did it for the Buc.

“I owed it to my teammates and our great coaches, and our whole organization,” Brady said of his decision to play a third Tampa Bay season. “We built something pretty special here in Tampa the last few years.”

Perhaps that true, though it feels like BS considering an official NFL investigation concluded Brady was trying his best to become a member of the Miami organization in 2022.

Joe doesn’t really care what the truth is because Brady is here. And maybe, just maybe, Brady feels a shred of guilt for trying to bolt on his Bucs and will work that much harder this season to show them he’s all-in.

It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to deduct the wifey is the issue.

  2. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

My Divorce literally crippled me, emotionally. I just hope that Brady’s problems with his wife do not effect his play.
It is my experience with divorce that it is far worse then a leaking offensive line, yet no one ever seems to mention it, and it’s effect on Brady.

  3. shale Says:

Who is to say everything out there til something sticks ruse in effect. From wife, to vacation, to masked singer, to health, to family….

What if this entire time there was possible legal issues from the whole Dolphin tampering issues that arose. Seems to be pretty hush, hush with all that for now….

  4. Pickgrin Says:

“Brady was trying his best to me a member of the Miami organization in 2022.”

OR – he was just listening to offers….. Big difference – and who doesn’t listen to perhaps better offers when it comes to your career?

That was quite presumptuous Joe – and negative. Back to momentarily channeling your “turncoat Tommy” ideas I see….

  5. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady said he wanted to play to the age of 45. This is NO secret to Giselle. I think the Rams loss really beat him up inside and he said WTF and he retired. I really this it was the seesaw that set her off. If he stayed playing she may of been ok but he didn’t. Or he was banking on the Bucs signing a new QB but they called his bluff. Either way he’s not the type of guy to go out a loser so his goal has not changed in 23 years and that is to win.

  6. Goatfarmer Says:

Ghag: “What more do you have to prove?”

Brady: “That I can do a lot better than you.”

  7. bucsfan4life Says:

Joe, the one nugget that always gets missed here is that an active player on the roster can NOT also have any share of ownerhsip. So if he planned to become a part owner of the Phins, he thereby was essentially retiring for good. I don’t think he was ever considering actually playing for Miami because 1) he is well aware the Bucs wouldnt’ give up his rights for free, and 2) this clause above.

SO I look at it that he was also contemplating the ownership piece in conjunction with stepping away from the game for good. Not “I would rather play QB in Miami”. I think those are two very different scenarios, and it makes me fee very much less betrayed, because who wouldn’t want even 1% equity of an NFL Franchise, whose valuation just continues to go up YoY

  8. BillyBucco Says:

I just hope for real that during this Sean Payton coo, Brady asked about that NO defense.
We all know pressure with 4 works, but NO is always around the thrown ball when we play them.

We didn’t beat them in the playoffs using a No Risk It offense.
We won’t beat them again if we try, except losing Gardner-Johnson will help.

I see a bunch of Fournette and White and Gio screens in the 2nd game.
Plus we HAVE to run the ball.

Regardless Brady should have Peyton on Speed Dial during practice next week.

  9. Infomeplease Says:

I don’t care what the real story is!!! I want TB12 to qb this Team and bring Tampa another Lombardi!!! LfG!!!!!!!!

  10. Ash Says:

The 90 percent is baloney that Joe keeps mention when talking about Brady’s interaction with the media is probably all players in general when dealing with the media.

  11. GoatWatcher Says:

If you think Brady was planning to play for Miami you are in fantasy land. Part owner after retirement perhaps, but Brady at 45 was not going to a new team, new everything, especially underachieving former AFC punching bag (and occasional thorn) Miami.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

    @GoatWatcher:

Brady did, indeed, go to a new team, new everything, second-tier, underperforming NFC punching bag when he chose the Bucs.

  13. Joe Says:

I just hope for real that during this Sean Payton coo, Brady asked about that NO defense.

    Agreed!

  14. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Chris Tucker. I’m sorry about your divorce, but you and Brady are built differently mentally. First, you don’t even know if he has any marital discord!! How could you project your situation onto him. That’s ridiculous. Furthermore, the offensive line is more of a worry than whatever you think Brady is going through. Julian Edelman recently said the same thing.

Brady has shown throughout his career that he can compartmentalize like no other athlete. His former teammates have said the same thing. Brady is not weak minded. Here’s two examples of situations that he’s had to deal with throughout his career:

2016: Brady went to war with the NFL during Deflategate. He had court appearances. He dealt with the constant media pressure. You know what he did after his suspension? Oh, he only went on to have an MVP type year. Oh, and he also had the biggest comeback in SB history against the Falcons. The so-called distractions didn’t seem to affect him on the field. Also during that same year, he was dealing with his mother cancer during the season. No one even had a clue that he was dealing with that situation. His mom having cancer is worse than some divorce.

2020: Most recently, during our SB season his parents contracted COVID and were in the hospital for some time. It was reported after the season that Tom was very worried about their longterm health consequences. You know what he did that year? Oh, the man only won a SB with a shortened off-season and threw for over 4,000 yards and 40TDs. Oh, and he also played on a damn MCL tear that year. We knew nothing about this until after the season.

My main point is that Tom isn’t some weak minded individual who lets outside noise affect him. He still abides by the Patriot Way:Ignore the noise.

  15. J Ghotier Says:

I’m glad Brady is here too (thank goodness)….but that doesn’t just to default or equate to “I don’t really care”

  16. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Just read Joe’s article about Playoff Lenny above this article. Then you’ll see that fans care more than players, coaches, etc. Another prime example here. If they could’ve pulled it off, Brady would be gone already.

  17. adam from ny Says:

celebrity couples are always looking to come up with something to dominate the headlines…

    to stay relevant…and stay on top…it’s often a game…

right now tommy b and giselle are hopefully just maneuvering and faking moves to dominate the celeb scene and media…

    but…

if his marriage is really on the outs, we have a problem, because this is new territory for tom brady and not old hat like “just another football season”

tom is actually a human being and not just a guy slinging footballs…sometimes people and fans seem to forget that

  18. tampabayallday Says:

DUMP HER TOMMY! GLORY IS FOREVER!

  19. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Maybe, just maybe, Brady feels a shred of guilt for trying to bolt on his Bucs and will work that much harder this season to show them he’s all-in’.

Ooooo, that’s cherry. Let’s go with that.

(Still kinda wondering though Joe if Tommy feels the same sense of guilt for going back on his word to Giselle to retire. Initial thought is YGBSM).

  20. Goatfarmer Says:

    Dump the dud.

  21. Hodad Says:

    Let’s just F’n go!

  22. JVZ Says:

Yo Chris! Whi ever said there was a divorce coming to Brady, besides you? This is why nothing can be believed anymore in the press and on line. Be careful if what you delude and share with others!

Is rhis why you went through one?

  23. Buc king Says:

She will be at the games..everyone over blows the drama but hey we floats your boat.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

Brady do whatever it takes to keep your family together don’t listen to these bitter men who ain got no wife and don’t understand nothing on how to be a husband that God want you to be our men that can’t keep a woman or even got a woman.

  25. Goatfarmer Says:

Ofeelsherself is now a psychologist. ROTFLMAO!

One more failed endeavor to add to her list.

She prays that Brady quits the Bucs. Whatever it takes. Can’t wait to have Brady and his winning leadership off the Bucs, so she can be back into the comfortable cocoon of 4-13, 5-12. Yes, those were the days. Rebuilding is way more fun than winning.

    What a pathetic dorkasaurus.

  26. Bob Katz Says:

Tom Brady is in historic example of a sports icon.
He has been blessed with a great family and great talent and great looks, and he has been able to humbly and professionally use all of those assets to bring joy to his fans.
Anyone who wants to interject about his personal life is jealous, or a jackass.

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

I told you once before Gooffarmer please don’t comment about me Ru Paul. I’m a real man who believes in the family before football or any other job. You a simp who has a boyfriend so I don’t expect you to understand the value of family. If Brady plays it’s cool with me I won’t lose sleep if he plays or he don’t play. I will sleep good if the bucs go 17 and 0 or if they go 0 and 17 my life ain’t going to change either way. But all I heard from a lot of yall is all how bad AB , Winston and Watson off the field . And now yall rather Brady to leave his wife and brake his family up for a football game. Y’all some hypocrites lol 🤣🤣🤣.

  28. RobSinger Says:

Brady “retired” because and ONLY because of the way the Bucs defense blew his 2nd half comeback at the end of the game vs. the not-that-great Rams. He was irate but he held it in and didn’t publicly humiliate anyone, as classy people do. And after the stomach acids began to neutralize from living life for 40 days, he realized that it was a rash decision indeed.

People may say the offense “could have and should have” played better in the first half. Maybe….but that’s Brady’s game: study, learn, and adjust better than they do. That’s why he the best of all time.

Brady “retired” because and ONLY because of the way the Bucs defense blew his 2nd half comeback

    ———–

    WRONG.

Brady retired because Arians threw a fit in the Jets game and literally FIRED AB on the sideline during the game. For all the fake news revisionist history that says AB quit, he didn’t, he told Arians he was hurt, couldn’t play, Arians told him to play anyways – AB said no, Arians threw a fit, fired him on the spot, said he’s off the team. To THAT news, AB went nuts and threw a fit. But the order is important, because AB was Brady’s favorite target, and Arians literally threw a fit and removed him from the team. If the Bucs have AB in that Rams game, they probably win. Brady quit because he was p/o’d that Arians was such an immature dope that he cost the team, and Brady, another SB win. Once Brady got the word that Arians was out, he unretired. Again, the timeline backs that up, the team told Brady that Arians was out BEFORE he unretired.

People need to get their timelines and stories straight before they just start making up a narrative.

  30. ClwJB Says:

I absolutely love reading all the opinions

One day we will know the truth, perhaps some version of it

For now, let’s just be glad Dad put his foot down

  31. Jim Cochran Says:

You owe your life to your family.no others.

  32. Ranger Walker Says:

@RodMunch lmao this from the guy publishing his own narrative. Just cause you can craft your narrative around a timeline doesn’t make it true either, it still just makes it “your narrative” If we ever actually do find out what truly happened it will be years from now and knowing the type of player Brady has been over his career nothing could convince me regardless of what BA may have said to AB that Brady would be on the side of anyone who would quit on his team on the sidelines. You have to be pretty weak minded, to quote another on here, to quit on your teammates mid game because the coach hurt your feelings. Plus if we want to talk timelines then you know AB the night before with his Only Fans model already had something planned prior to the game and was just waiting for his moment to be a prick

  33. Oneilbuc Says:

Jim Cochran. That’s my whole point bro they call me a Brady hater. And now because you value the family you have become a Brady hater.

  34. Goatfarmer Says:

Ofeelsherself – the fact yall don’t want folks commenting about y’all multiplies the negative comments about y’all.

Y’all ain’t a man, y’all a whining annoying girl who hates the best player to ever put on a football uniform and who pulled the Bucs from irrelevance to glory. Whatever happens in the future is in the future. Bucs were rebuilding for 11 years. Now we finally have something built and the organization knows what it feels like to win. We realize y’all prefer losing, that’s y’all’s choice. It’s also hilarious that y’all make proclamations about others having no wife and such. My wife supports my pursuits of happiness even at her expense. Ghag doesn’t. So suck on that.

  35. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

  37. Oneilbuc Says:

Tommy. That’s the problem I have with yall let me know when Brady sack a quarterback. Let me know when Brady hit running backs in the back feild. Let me know when Brady catches a interseption. For me I will always believe that defense wins championships. Our defense will determine if we win a championship. Now did Brady help us win yes he’s the starting quarterback but to make him the only reason why we won and to make him bigger than the team no I will always disagree with yall on that. I celebrate the bucs not one player.

  38. Oneilbuc Says:

And to all yall that believes once Brady leaves we are going to go back to losing yall act like the other fan bases and what they believe about our team. So that’s why I used the word suckaneers that’s for that croud. We have won a superbowl without Brady before and I believe we can do it again. Brady is one of the best to every do it not the greatest quarterback of all time. He’s a first ballot hall of famer and yes I hope we win the Superbowl this year and next year regardless who the quarterback is. But I will always root for the bucs and I will never make one player bigger than the team.

  39. Goatfarmer Says:

Ofeelyourself –most people with any self awareness at all, after digging a deep hole, would at least stop digging You just ask for a bigger shovel. STay in your hole and wait. It will be ok.

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

Gooffarmer. Oh I don’t regret nothing what I posted every thing I posted was facts. And yes I still will never say Brady is the only reason why we won like yall do . That’s why I still believe once Brady leaves you will be gone and not just you . Any body that have tried to make Brady bigger than the bucs need to go root for another team and leave the bucs alone. I will still be rooting for my bucs even when Brady is gone. And yes I don’t believe Brady is the goat because of the rules change. So I can care less how you feel about me or my takes . And yes Brady need to do what ever it takes to keep his family because family comes first before a football game, team, and fan base . And I will always stand by that .

  41. Goatfarmer Says:

Osqueeler, y’all wouldn’t recognize a fact if it hit y’all in y’all’s girl parts.
