Giovani Bernard Expected For Opening Day

September 2nd, 2022

Healing vibes.

Among the uplifting news yesterday at One Buc Palace was that running back Giovani Bernard is expected back at practice next week following an ankle injury in the preseason opener.

Simply stated, if Tom Brady trusts Bernard enough to bless him being re-signed following a one-year deal in 2021, then Joe wants the guy ready on opening day.

Fun fact, Bernard played 26 percent of the snap in last season’s opener against Dallas as the Bucs offense carved up the Cowboys — the Bucs’ opponent in nine short days.

Yes, the Bucs can win without Bernard. But Joe would prefer Brady has another trusted option on the field after rookie running back Rachaad White coughed up a couple of balls this preseason.

The Bucs offense carved up the Cowboys? Some would say it was the Cowgirls who carved up the Bucs. Didn’t we win because the girls had a lousy kicker?

I love our RB room and it’s better with Bernard in it….

It seems like everytime he’s in the game, good things happen….and then he’s hurt.

  3. Wild Bill Says:

Gio has soft hands. Good for catching passes. But he goes down almost instantly and gets injured too often. Throw the ball to Lenny!

    Scotty In Fat Antonio,

You are right that there was a lot of offensive success that day for both teams. Both had over 370 yds passing and were around 50% on converting 3rd downs.

  5. SB~LV Says:

He ran extremely HARD in the first preseason game.
Save him for critical situations, don’t burn him out because he only goes %100

They should definitely give Bernard a chance to return kicks, can’t be worse than slip and slide Darden.

  7. Marine Buc Says:

I hope he can stay healthy long enough to exit the tunnel on Sunday…

Good lord. This guy has turned into a china doll.

Joe gets it. Too many people are hyping up White, but Gio is in Tommy’s sacred trust circle. Not many are in that circle. Gio will be the third down back this year. Tom loves the way he conducts himself, and Gio is good pass pro. That’s one of White’s weaknesses. I’m a big Gio fan. When he’s on the field, he still shows great vision and quickness. I thought we should’ve played him in the slot against the Rams when were down receivers.

  9. PassingThru Says:

Yep, health and pass protection are concerns with Gio.

I am more excited about what Rachaad White might be able to bring to the table.

  10. Scooter Says:

17 games is a long season for ur No.1 running back. Need Gio to give Lenny some breaks. Gio running the ball will make him more effective as a reciever.

Bernard has not done much of anything since he’s been here . Why is he still taking up a roster spot ???

Why no Sneaky Vaughn love? He has been very good in his touches on the field. And has good RB skills. Yet you claim it will be the Lenny, Bernard, White RB order. Does Vaughn not have a “connection” with Brady? I am ready for more Vaughn in game touches.
I like our other RB’s but pure the lack of what Joe finds interesting, sure does cut out Vaughn from any posts.. Did he tell you he didn’t like “Bromosas”? Ask out your wif/GF/Sister?
    Go Bucs!!!

I’d rather see White play. He can run also.
