Chris Simms Dissects Tom Brady’s Fastball

September 30th, 2022

Video evidence of Tom Brady’s arm strength.

Joe heard someone the other day say Tom Brady is the Nolan Ryan of quarterbacks.

It was an interesting comment to Joe on several levels. Few if any athletes have ever matched what Brady and Ryan have done: Be top-shelf throwers of an object in their respective sport at 45.

Ryan retired at 46 and when he was 45, he struck out 157 batters in 27 starts, back when dudes weren’t swinging for the fence on every pitch, thus strikeouts meant something. Ryan brought the heat as an old man.

Brady at 45 still has plenty of mustard on his fastball.

And there is a link between Brady and Ryan. That’s Tom House, a former pitcher who was Ryan’s personal pitching coach. House then decided to coach up quarterbacks and his most famous client is Brady, followed by Drew Brees.

How good is Brady’s fastball? Well, former Bucs quarterback Chris Simms, in a Peacock video, broke down how Brady can still fire a ball into a window crack for a completion. Anything less than a fastball and this play was a pick and perhaps a pick-six.

This is good stuff from Simms and just goes to explain what a human freak Brady is for his age. Video courtesy of Peacock.

    Excellent analysis by Chris Simms. Hope that Kyle Trask has learned from Tom Brady to seek every single advantage that you can possibly get. Having Tom House as his ‘pitching coach’ is a great example of that. So cool.

    But Irma Krautman said he didn’t have a fastball anymore. No zip on the ball at all

    Brady = G O A T “Hey Tom pass the mustard”

    He has still got it, now if they could actually get some healthy bodies back out there.

    Everyone keeps talking about how great Devin White is… but I only see it SOME times. What I see WAY TOO MUCH is him using his speed as a detriment, not an advantage. He needs to jet to the spot, get himself under control, and wrap up. Too many times his speed runs him RIGHT BY the ball carrier or gets him into a bad angle where he over-pursues. On this play, he didn’t use his speed AT ALL because HE COMPLETELY GAVE UP ON THE PLAY. Watch the clip, he assumes the corner is going to make the tackle and doesn’t pursue AT ALL. Then we the tackle is broken, Cobb is off to the races.
