Buccaneers 19, Cowboys 3

September 11th, 2022

Todd Bowles earns his first “W” on the back of his suffocating defense.

The NFL’s highest-scoring team last season was no match for our in-your-face, suffocating and young Bucs defense.

Concerns entering tonight’s game about the Bucs’ offensive line should have more focused on the Dallas unit that got bullied all over the Jerry’s World field.

Defense, defense and more defense. Todd Bowles had the perfect defensive game plan.

The Bucs never let up and the pass coverage was strong and complemented by an effective pass rush with a lot of contributors.

Shaq Barrett was in Dak Prescott’s face on the interception he threw to Antoine Winfield, Jr., and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka was winning his battles early. Akiem Hicks got pressure and Anthony Nelson found a sack, as well. Blitzes overwhelmed the Cowboys and it wasn’t really a competitive game.

The offense? Bucs fans screaming for balance got it tonight.

Leonard Fournette was unstoppable with 21 carries for 127 yards. And Playoff Lenny caught both his targets out of the backfield for a total of 10 yards.

Tom Brady spread the ball around and always seemed to have an open receiver. Mike Evans and Julio Jones flashed their Hall of Fame talent and Chris Godwin opened the game with a splash before injuring his hamstring.

The Donovan Smith elbow injury is concerning, but Joe’s got no time for anything but celebration tonight.

Congratulations, Todd Bowles. You earned your first Bucs victory, and it was big-time.

Unfortunately they have owned us….. Wtf 😒

  18. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Absolutely brilliant defense tonight. Godwin is apparently a hamstring… Durable Donnie an elbow. Lenny was a beast. Complimentary football.

  19. 2022 Fire the Cannons Says:

    Time to 🥳 celebrate

  20. Mike C Says:

What an absolutely dominate defensive performance! This game was over a long time ago.

  21. David Says:

As much as the O stalled and should have punched in 2 if not 3 touchdowns, overall it was dominant on both sides of the ball. Fun to watch even with the frustrating parts

  22. ModHairKen Says:

One of the best defensive performances in the last ten years.

  23. Oneilbuc Says:

Defense wins championships and I believe we can win a Superbowl with defense playing this good. Brady done just enough to help us win and that’s all we need him to do this year. That’s why I believe we will be ok next year even if Trask is the quarterback with this running game. They don’t need to change nothing . Go bucs

  24. View from 132 Says:

That’s the first Buc win in Dallas, isn’t it?

  25. AbucAway Says:

I hope Tom calls Gronk tonight

  26. Ash Says:

Offense was kinda messy at times but expected for the first game but Dallas defense looks good so kinda impressed. Defense looked good but Dallas looked like a shell of itself hope that holds up with other teams go bucs.

  27. Timbucs2 Says:

  31. captivajim Says:

really good to get the Win tonight… answers lot of questions,, & gives everyone confidence going forward –particulary next wk against slimies

  32. Marques Says:

In Bowles I trust, finally some balance on offence. Ego was not our enemy tonight.

As a collective our rookies deserved a game ball. They weren’t perfect but they competed and stood tall. There is still a lot of room for growth so the future looks bright.

One game does not make a season but beating the Cowboys opening night on the road on prime time tv is a hell of a start.

  33. JimBuc2 Says:

View from 132, that was win number 2 in 17 trips to Irvine. I loved it! Bucs are now Americas Team. Shaq Attack busted up Quack Prescott’s thumb. Will the last Buc leaving turn off the lights at Alliant? It’s over for Dallas. See ya. Don’t want to be ya!
    Go Bucs!

  34. MarkR Says:

    The secondary was outstanding.
4 FGs the result of overly conservative play calls on offense … unless of course the defense can consistently hold the opposition to 19 points.

  35. Red86 Says:

Big toast to all posters including myself, that demanded a more balanced offense. There was hardly any consistent pressure in the 4th due to tired d line. Ko Kief and Otten held it down! Great job rooks!

I hope we stay balanced no matter the yardage gained rushing. An unpredictable offense is an unstoppable offense. The play action almost connected big time with Julio. We just need to improve our passing game and we’re straight.

  36. Coburn Says:

Good callo. The rookies. Both tight ends did great job blocking, goedeke seemed to hold his own, white looked very smooth. Even some good punts from our rookie punter. Hall I think did ok. Lots of contributions from this year’s class already

  37. Cobraboy Says:

How us that crow going down, George?

  38. Cobraboy Says:

Do not discount the Dallas D.

They held strong, or that game becomes a blowout

  39. Goatfarmer Says:

DEEEEFFFFFEENNSSSEEEE. Healthy = really good, and the depth is impressive.

  40. D-Rok Says:

The Bucs put on their big boy pants and played hard. Lenny had a pass-pro on the left side where he chipped and knocked Parsons’ block off. And rookie Otton led the NFL this week with 3 special teams tackles.

How many passes were defensed? That was impressive.

Dallas D is pretty good so I’m pleased overall with our offense. Need more TD’s in red zone, obviously, but the Bucs will clean that up.

    Really good game!
