Big Names Among Bucs Inactives Against Saints

September 18th, 2022

Bucs tight end Kyle Rudolph will not make his 2022 debut today.

Ugh!

The Bucs will have six active receivers against the slimy Saints this afternoon: Julio Jones (knee) and Chris Godwin (hamstring) will not be among them.

The available targets are Mike Evans, Russell Gage, Breshad Perriman, Scotty Miller, Jaelon Darden and Kaylon Geiger, just activated off the practice squad.

Donovan Smith is out (elbow) and the other dudes with no helmet on today are rookie cornerback Zyon McCollum (hamstring), tight end Kyle Rudolph, running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn and third-string QB Kyle Trask.

The D has to play perfect today for the Bucs to win. Most of these players out had little work all preseason and they’re already hurt. No Julio or Godwin really hurts.

  2. Cobraboy Says:

Looks like a grinding ground game in NO…

  3. Buc1987 Says:

    Ugh!

    Tough game made even tougher.

D has to step up today, like last week.

    Go Bucs!!!

  4. Cobraboy Says:

It’s a long season. Better to get guys healthy now instead of nagging injuries for the season.

We will see a lot of Gage this game.

  5. CrackWise Says:

Not that we know the actives and inactive. It will be no surprise to see us go full old school SMASH MOUTH football.

So long as Wells does what he did last week. I have ZERO concern about him.

So long as Scotty and Gage can make the plays that come their way. ME will get his opportunity to put up 150 yards and 2TDs.

Brady should be able to put together another respectable game. 280 yards 3TDs..

The Bucs D will expose the Saints QB.

    Bucs win going away. 35-17

  6. Evo Says:

Rudolph not playing again is very concerning.

  7. DungyDance Says:

Darden reminds me of Jacquez Green. Anyway, maybe some of the RB’s will sub in for a few short passes. Bigger picture, if defense can get consistent pressure on Jameis, he will probably make a good number of bad decisions. So looking for defense to save the day today.

  8. CrackWise Says:

Yall seeing this Bucs Saints breakdown by Peyton???

“Tom brought a lot of credibility to a team that didn’t have any”.

Says all you need to know about JW right there!!!

  9. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Gage will need to really EARN that money this game because Evans will be doubled.
What a disappointment Kyle Rudolph has been!
Looks like Ground Game time today!

  10. NCBucfan Says:

Why did we even sign Rudolph? What a joke!

  11. timbucs2 Says:

Is Rudolph secretly injured? Even washed up, he would easily be tied with Brate as our best receiving TE.

Maybe Leftwich is preferring better blockers this game due to the need for support for the left side of the o-line.

  12. JimbobBucfan Says:

    Godwin, Jones and Smith out.

Show us some spine today. Show us what we have this year! Will need turnovers today. A pick six is in order!

    Bucs win 23-20.

    Go Bucs!

  13. Cobraboy Says:

    Errr…who is this “Rudolph” guy?

  14. Winny Testaverde Says:

Rudolph washed…probably should have worked him out before giving him a guaranteed contract. Oh swell…wonder if he or Trask with have more active game days?

  15. Bucamania Says:

All on the D this week. I expect a heavy does of Lenny.

  16. Dooley Says:

Idk if Kyle Rudolph has been a disappointment, the problem
was thinking of him as a direct Gronk replacement instead of being the insurance policy just in case our rookie TEs couldn’t transition fast enough. That hasn’t been the case, so let him continue to be that insurance policy and hopefully it’ll remain a choice for the staff to use him oppose to any situation arising where we NEED to use him. Kind of excited to see if Darden actually gets some snaps on offense and can capitalize on that playing time if he does.

  17. Marine Buc Says:

    @ timbucs

I hope it’s a sign that Cade Otton is the real deal… Rudolph will have his time. Brate gets injured at some point every season…

  18. Beeej Says:

Rudolph has to be bummed, pretty sure his contract was incentive-based

  19. Maniac Buc Says:

The fact the people on the interwebs are basically cheering for injuries to Jones/others so Scoot can play is borderline sickening…

  20. Leighroy Says:

A washed up Kyle Rudolph would be easily tied with Brate as our best receiving TE?

Smh, disrespectful. Some of you people…..

  21. Donny Says:

Why is TE Kyle Rudolph not playing? There’s no injury listed so why isn’t he playing? Just seems to sign him and not play him. We’ll see. “Let’s Go” Go Buvs

  22. Buc1987 Says:

    Dooley…there’s nothing exciting about Darden!

  23. BucsFanSince76 Says:

Rudolph should be put out to pasture.

  24. Slacker Says:

There was no business picking up Rudolph. He’s washed up trash. No benefit to the team. Just release him already.

  25. bojim Says:

    Cyril Grayson

  26. Dooley Says:

    @Buc1987

Speak for yourself, and anybody else willing to write off a 2nd year player with limited playing time on offense. Unlike the lot that harps on Darden because it’s easy, I’m still waiting to see what he can do with a bigger sample of playing time. In short, I’m not as knee jerky as the lot of you, sue me

  27. Francisco Guzman Says:

This defense better show up today. The slimy saints have had their number.

  28. Dooley Says:

    @Leighroy

Kyle Rudolph doesn’t play special teams, Cade Otton has a pair of tackle on kick coverage and he’s not giving us what we’ve got in Ko Kieft as a blocker. If it were down to Brate or Rudolph, I’d side with the staff with riding with Brate w/o hesitation.

  29. Mcruzer Says:

    Gage about to go off.

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Geiger instead of Thompkins…..

Don’t need Rudolph……but needed Julio…..very bad sign he only lasted 1 game.

  31. Hodad Says:

Surprised they didn’t bring Thompkins up from the PS.

  32. Slacker Says:

Rudolph cant block or play special teams. Guy plays like he weighs 180 lbs. Long history of never falling forward after contact.

    .

    Healthy scratch.

If I remember correctly, vested veteran contracts become fully guaranteed after a certain number of weeks (four?). Unless the Bucs already gave him a guaranteed contract, he might be released in the next couple of weeks.

  34. CrackWise Says:

Dang, JW has 4 fractures in his back??? OUTCH

  35. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Dooley

Good point. Otton is playing on several STs. Kyle is here for when Brate goes down… Which he will at some point.

    @ Mcruzer

Let’s hope so. Injured all preseason and pretty limited action with 2 minor catches last week. So far definitely not worth the $10M per investment.

    @ TBBF

    “Geiger instead of Thompkins”

I thought that was interesting as well.

Also agree that JJ only lasting one game (after spending most of last year on IR) is not a good look…

    @ bojim

We might see a Grayson return if injuries in the WR continue to mount…

  36. Riki Says:

Joe can you please start posting that link with the map coverage for the games?

  37. Joe Says:

    Rudolph cant block

Sure he can, though not as good as Ko Kieft.

  38. Red86 Says:

Otten and Kief are the reason Rudolph is benched. That alone is very impressive for the two rookies. I’m sure Rudolph will get his chance at some point.

  39. bigdaddio Says:

Did I hear on the radio Evans is out?

  40. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    bojim Says:
    “Cyril Grayson”
    .
    .

    Me too.

At least Darden had some positive return yards last week, but if he catches passes the way he returns punts (scared), his arms will look really short.

  41. Joe Says:

There was no business picking up Rudolph. He’s washed up trash.

Anyone that thought in July Ko Kieft would be better than Kyle Rudolph is lying. Not even the Bucs thought that. Credit to Ko Kieft.

  42. Joe Says:

Why is TE Kyle Rudolph not playing? There’s no injury listed so why isn’t he playing?

Simple. He’s the No. 4 TE.

  43. Cobraboy Says:

    Joe Says:

    Exactly.

    And Otten.

Vertebrae are pretty thick. He can afford a chip here and there. 😉

  45. Goatfarmer Says:

Rudolph is a waste of a roster spot.

  46. geno711 Says:

Simple, Rudolph is the No. 4 TE.

Or even on offense if good as the number 3, he does not play special teams as well. If he can be better than a guy off the street for us in 4 to 8 games then great.

Have to wonder if his lack of working with Tom Brady is something we have to consider as well.

  47. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ve said it all week long. Our D will be the major Key in this game.

  48. Francisco Guzman Says:

    Evans is not out.

  49. HC Grover Says:

The Batteling Bas%$#s of Tampa Bay

  50. Leighroy Says:

Dooley misunderstood me. The disrespect was to Cameron Brate who is miles ahead of everyone else at TE on the roster.

  51. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Thank you J Winston for the win !! 😂 GO BUCS

  52. Goatfarmer Says:

Glorious win. Glorious day. Everybody drink up and save your complaining about the offense.

The guy I never heard of who replaced Wells did better than Wells.

  53. LakelandSteve Says:

So when are we cutting Rudolph. If he is that bad he can’t get on the field, the Bucs could use that roster spot on someone else who could play Special Teams or help the team in another manner.

  54. James Ziemer Says:

People that are full of themselves do not know the true Kyle Rudolph this man on and o f f the field is a superstar this man would go to the hospital and his wife to keep people morale up so come on people get off his jockstrap he is a great player he will prove to all you Bucks fans he’s not here to just waste the roster spot he is here to win a Super Bowl ring he’s a guy that will go out onto the field and give 110% every damn down he’s out there You Buck fans should feel real fortunate of having a caliber tight end like that man all I say is give this man sometime he will prove to you that he was well worth the pickup for one Tom Brady he loves thrown to the tight end and he is one of the best in this game when the game is online and you’re inside that 20 and your wide receiver are covered well you want to have tight end like him to throw too so please give him some respect not because he deserves it because he has earned it have a great season Kyle Rudolph prove some of the haters wrong and to the people that believe that he is a good player you’re not wrong look up some film when he played for the Vikings

  55. Hank Says:

I agree with you about Rudolph. He is still a great person and player and can help the Bucs offense. Otton, although he has potential, catches one pass for 4 yards and of of a sudden he’s going to be great.
