Tyler Johnson Claimed By Houston

August 31st, 2022

Texans head coach Lovie Smith.

It’s official. The Houston Texans have claimed booted Buccaneers receiver Tyler Johnson, Tampa Bay’s fifth-round pick in 2020.

Poor Johnson, kicked off the NFC’s best roster with Tom Brady and landing with Lovie Smith to catch balls from Davis Mills.

Young football players, learn to love and play special teams.

  1. NCBucfan Says:

    well at least the STUPID SLIMEY Saints didn’t pick him up!

  2. Mr. Editor Says:

    Losing Tyler Johnson was the price for getting Julio Jones. The Bucs are in win now mode. I hope that it pays off!

  3. Robert Says:

    Glad we kept Scotty but wish TJ well

  4. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

    Poor Johnson, laughing all the way to the bank. He will be on someone’s roster the rest of this season and next. If not Houston then somewhere. Not sure how much he will contribute but I bet he gets the chance. (Until they find out how slow he is). Either way, he is a member of a fraternity that no one who ever comments here will ever be a part of: NFL player. Still pretty cool.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Good for Tyler….good for the Texans……he’s a good WR….

    Glad Thompkins cleared waivers…..note that Grayson hasn’t been signed….or Sterns.

  6. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

    Mr. Editor, I agree with that. I’d like to add that there are more Tyler Johnson’s coming in next year’s draft, and the one after, and the one after that….

  7. Buc92’ Says:

    Davis mills is a solid qb , it’s not doom & gloom for Tyler … Good luck man

    Gobucs!

  8. geno711 Says:

    Tyler has a good chance to be the #3 WR on Houston.

    He did very well for his overall ability. I wish him well. I do not expect his career after the Bucs to be any better than Adam Humphries.

  9. MadMax Says:

    Good luck TJ (sorry you’re under Lovie though)

    We’ll br good with our current core of WR as long as nobody goes down. But I know our luck here lately. Shouldve kept him imo, but who tf am I, lol.

  10. Mike Says:

    I liked Johnson, and thought he played his role well for the Bucs, but at the end of the day, his 6 catch preseason romp early was probably the best you can expect from him.

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

    “I didn’t want to put more points on the board”

    – Lovie Smith

  12. Smashsquatch Says:

    Houston was sitting on #3 waiver priority, didn’t take long for TJ to get picked up. Good landing spot for him to get snaps right away as a #3. Best of luck to you TJ. Thanks for that sic catch against the Saints tied in the 4th qtr, 3rd and long, and deep in our own territory. Do we even hoist the Lombardi without that grab?

  13. Jerry Says:

    He’s like a #3 WR in Houston. And he’ll get a lot of playing time. Here he would be #7 and rarely used.

  14. Jimmy Says:

    At least after Tom Brady retires Tyler Johnson will have a better quarterback throwing to him than GatorBreath.

  15. 99 55 47 20 Says:

    GatorBreath lol

  16. ocala Says:

    Bucs should sign Tyre Phillips; he was the Ravens starting guard for the last two years and was just cut.

  17. SB~LV Says:

    Lovie is a coaching enigma

  18. Pewter Warrior 813 Says:

    Lovie’s picture gives me PTSD

    Dude is straight trash

  19. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

    “Verrrrrrrrrrry disappointing.
    Discouraged? No.
    But…..
    Verrrrrrrrrrrrrry disappointing.”

    ~~~~
    Wow, I don’t miss that.
  20. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:
    Pewter Warrior 813,
    The most frustrating part was that the guy had done a very solid job in Chicago, and had a solid career as an Assistant Coach & Def. Coordinator, before that.
    When he got here??… It felt like he was just here to retire.
  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:
    We have only filled/ 14 PS slots…..so, perhaps other than the Jensen/Ryan move we have 2 players on the active roster that we plan on moving to the PS….or, we are holding out for a couple of players waived from other teams to place there.
    I’d note that Andre Alexander & Jose Borregales along with Cyril Grayson are not signed.
    I’m surprised that Devin Thompkins cleared waivers….he’s a very good WR….
  22. DoooshLaRue Says:
    I thought Iaasic Hayes died years ago?
    Damn children…….
    I bet the Texans are gonna be Indianapolis Ready for Week 1.
    Leeman Bennett wasn’t as bad as Lovie.
  23. BucsfanFred Says:
    Good luck TJ.
  24. Pewter Warrior 813 Says:
    @ Tampa Bay Demon
    I was never thrilled by the Lovie hire as it seemed like it was a desperate attempt at re creating the Dungy Era rather than hire someone for the modern game. But I was still optimistic due to his track record and endorsements from a list of Hall of Famers. Thankfully his reign of terror was short lived.
  25. ArkansasBuc Says:
    Anybody heard any news on sterns? Haven’t seen him get picked up by anyone yet
  26. Kentucky Buc Says:
    Houston may fool some people this year. Mills is decent and Pierce the rookie RB is the real deal.
  27. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:
    Down goes Tanner Hudson! Cut by Giants
  28. Goatfarmer Says:
    This.sucks.so.much.
    Darden. Bwaaaahaaaajahaaa
  29. David Says:
    KENTUCKY……. No
    Good luck TJ. He should have two takeaways from this… Get on the jugs machine- Every. Single. Day. And get on special teams.
    I’m not sure why people thought Thompkins would be picked up, if you don’t clear waivers that means a team’s giving you a contract onto their team. He’s an unknown rookie, nothing more. He looks explosive and pretty decent but there seems to be no doubt that he would clear waivers and end up on the practice squad.
    *** If Darden doesn’t show out returning kicks then I would not be surprised to see Thompkins get some returns this year
  30. SB~LV Says:
    Goat… Lol
    Why am I imagining you in front of your TV on returns
    Keep your meds nearby 😂😂🙃🤣
  31. Bucfan593 Says:
    I would much rather have Johnson than Darden
  32. SB~LV Says:
    I am leading the Darden bandwagon!
    Lol
    Howz you like your crow 🤷‍♂️
  33. Goatfarmer Says:
    SB~LV – thanks for the advice man. I just stocked up on Crown Royal and am open to prescription suggestions.
  34. BuxfaninTX Says:
    Leaving Tampa to play for Mr August, Lovie…
    Taylor is going to where she played special teams when he’s in Texas
  35. Goatfarmer Says:
    I find it impossible to believe that TJ refused to play special teams. If he did, he deserves his fate. That just doesn’t fit his profile. Dude could hit and block so, I don’t get it. I’m calling Todd out for BS.
    Meanwhile, Dexter Jackson Junior. Yeah!
  36. SKBucsFan Says:
    Poor guy. Texans wouldn’t be my first choice with Lovie at the helm. Although I guess it gives him a good opportunity to play regularly. Hopefully he sticks it out
  37. JimmyJack Says:
    I would guess Tyler would be a Top 3 reciever in Houston. I could not name you 1 WR for that team hahaha.
    A good chance for Tyler to make a name for himself. Meanwhile the Bucs will be just fine, we replaced him nicely during free agency and are fully loaded at WR.
  38. Listnfrmafar Says:
    Bucs couldn’t of gave them Darden?
  39. 99 55 47 20 Says:
    Imagine if Lovie grew out his beard until he won a playoff game
  40. NDog is an Idiot Says:
    Texans wouldn’t have claimed Darden. Either would the other 30 teams.
  41. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:
    Going back to the SAT test:
    Darden is to Johnson like Yugo is to Porsche!
  42. dbbuc711 Says:
    Shouldn’t take him long to become one of that teams best player
  43. RGA Says:
    Better opportunity for Johnson to get more playing time in Houston.
  44. Buc1987 Says:
    The Houston Texans just traded Lovie Smith to the Patriots for…. fans Listnfrmafar and GOB.
    They no longer will be with us for the 2022 season.
    You’re welcome and Go Bucs!!
  45. Goatfarmer Says:
    Darden – the overhyped AppState Dexter Jackson Junior who loved the career of Kenny Bell. Show out in practice. Show ass in games.
  46. SteelStudBuc Says:
    I think hes gonna ball out in Houston, put some good tape out there.
  47. Goatfarmer Says:
    Letting go of Tyler is a bad move.
  48. Brady Fan Says:
    Darden has been useless in special teams… Should have cut him instead.
  49. Natron Says:
    Get a shave Lovie!!!!!
  50. IDROOLPEWTER&RED Says:
    He’ll get crazy playing time now. It was probably the best thing that could have happened to him.
  51. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:
    I think it was his run blocking that got him cut!! … He’s a good receiver and they should have kept him over frikn Darden!!
