Tom Brady Finally Pestered Lavonte David About Those Picks

August 9th, 2022

Still looking for takeaways.

Through two weeks of training camp practice, one light for most people that don’t box their sons while lounging on exclusive yachts off the coast of Italy was ol’ Lavonte David looking like a not-so-old linebacker.

David looks five years younger the way he is bouncing around in Bucs 2022 training camp.

And if Tom Brady thought he could sneak a pass or two past the aging Bucs legend, well, Brady found out the hard way David isn’t being put out to pasture quite yet.

David had two picks on Brady in the first few days of practice.

David told Joe he fully expected Brady to confront him about the picks, but it hadn’t happened yet. Today, Joe followed up and asked David if Brady had run smack on him about the two interceptions. He laughed and said, no, Brady didn’t badger him about the picks. But Brady did want to know how David got them.

“He asked me about it,” David said of his thieves of the master. “He said, ‘Man, you got me twice already!'”

Brady then wanted David to break down everything he saw on the play. What he was reading. What he saw.

Does that sound a like a guy who wants to retire?

David said this is nothing new. Whenever the defense makes a key play on Brady in practice, he wants to know everything about what the defense did, what was read, any tips at all. And David said the defense will do the same to Brady. If Brady roasts them, defenders will ask Brady what he saw. Brady is more than willing to help.

So as far as the old man of the Bucs offense and the old man of the Bucs defense, all is right with the world in early August.

Love hearing that he asks those questions.
    What a stud.

Don’t know quite what to think…….LVD picks off two Brady passes….Brady throws 2 Ints……..I guess you’d call that even…but it sure sounds like LVD wins.

    That’s fantastic reporting.

That’s just good football. They all do that.

    Great insight Joe.
Allows us to see how committed Brady still is.

Just last week, when he missed a few days, how many dudes were suggesting that he did not have it in him any more.

Also, great video out there of LeSean McCoy talking about Brady in the clubhouse after the Bucs beat the Slimy Saints in the playoffs a couple of years ago.

I’m going to lock myself in a closet and enjoy myself with a bottle of scotch after reading this. So so so good.

    Props to the Joes also.

Two picks of Brady by David are interesting, especially considering David has only two real game picks in his last five regular season years.
Is David getting faster in his old age?
Is Brady getting slower in his older age?
Or is David so accustomed to practice he can easily read routes by receiver tendencies and formations?

LD54 was a stud pro football player from the word go…….

Basically a model of consistency and high level play – resulting in the best overall stats since 2012 of any LBer in his era (including Kuechly & Wagner).

If these “fountain of youth” reports carry into the season – and if David and White can both stay healthy all year – we are going to be watching some exciting defense play from the Buccaneers in 2022.

    defensive….

where’s that edit button you promised was coming Joe?

  12. SOEbuc Says:

My boy Lavonte favorite Buc all time still killing it. Is defense still not supposed to catch a Brady pick? That’s dumb as hell trying to improve on pics but not able to critique using the best QB all time.

    Joe,

Will the media be allowed to view joint practices? Curious if there will be Joint Practice Notes…?

  14. Jason Says:

I’m seriously curious to know if LVD adopted any of TB12’s training and diet routines.

  15. Casual Observer Says:

Brady is probably the most intelligent QB to ever play the game. He can make the best decision in the shortest (2 sec.) time. And, as stated, here, he is always adjusting. Even within a game. All coaches could learn from him. That’s how he became the GOAT and why he keeps that mantle.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Who was the poster here that was saying the coaches tell the defense in practice to not intercept the ball? That was one of the dumber statements I’ve ever heard on this site.

It kind of stands out to me that our young defensive players are questioning Brady in an effort to improve.
Not sure if this is/was normal pre Brady, but it certainly sounds good now.

    That’s awesome.

    Not Brady’s. Derrick Brooks.’
