Robert Hainsey Carted Off

August 10th, 2022

UPDATED 12:10 p.m. – Not what anyone wanted to see at One Buc Palace (video below).

Backup turned starting-center-in-waiting, Robert Hainsey, was carted off the field near the end of practice.

He was helped to the cart and maybe, just maybe, it’s a cramp. And head coach Todd Bowles didn’t rule that out after practice but would not (could not?) provide an update on what happened to Hainsey.

ESPN NFL insider Jeff Darlington noted on Twitter that just last night he talked to a Bucs official who said Hainsey was performing well enough in training camp that the team was not planning to chase a center on the open market.

12:10 p.m. Darlington says on Twitter that a ranking Bucs source tells him Hainsey had severe cramping and that’s it. (Phew!)

  35. MadMax Says:

I guess we better get Tretter. If Hainsey goes down for multiple games, we’re screwed.

Sign Tretter if we can afford him and let Hainsey come in on some snaps near the end of winning games. Win Win situation!

  36. steele Says:

Why isn’t there better heat management? Hydration, etc.

I think they need to bring in a veteran G/C regardless. What if this were a reg. season game?

  37. Dooley Says:

    @GoFortheFace30

Keenan Ivory-WAYANS wrote the script and directed the movie.

  38. BucsFan81 Says:

Either way they need to go sign another damn Center because we are 1 injury away at that position to be totally screwed for the season.

  39. MadMax Says:

Heres the deal, and I hate going there….but if Jensen cant return, then why hold onto him? Use that cash to get Tretter….(i know easier said than done)

and what if Jensen comes back a little too soon and gets reinjured….

This is why I wanted a Center in the first rd instead of JTS (and at the time I didnt know Jensen would be back)…oh well. Im still hoping JTS works out, we already know the Trask situation.

  40. Hodad Says:

I’m 67 still work outdoors a couple of days a week at a golf course. Last month on a real hot day I played a couple of holes before my shift ended, and started to cramp up. Man that was painful. Hours later at home I could’nt hold a fork to eat because my hands cramped so bad. I tried laying down, and my leg cramped so bad I had to get up, and walk it off. This Fl heat, and cramping are no joke. That’s why I think they should practice indoors, more than out. Working out in heat to get use to it is a myth. It breaks the body down, more than building it up. Use the Glazer shed for gods sake. First two games are in AC domes. To much practicing outside is just stupid.

  41. Allbuccedup Says:

Better get someone else in here! This could happen during the game and your really have no descent backup.

  42. Aceofaerospace Says:

Man there’s a lot of cliff jumpers on this site.

  43. GOB Says:

We always took salt tablets before practicing in the heat. Not sure if they still do that. Give him a couple IVs, he’ll be fine. Hopefully….. Cramping is extremely painful. GOB has witnessed grown ass men, nearly brought to tears. If you’ve ever had them, you know of what I speak.

  44. Dooley Says:

    @Hodad

    Coconut water and bananas

  45. MadMax Says:

I used to get night cramps in my calf and foot after going back to work in the hot sun, I know cramps (yard driver). It usually happened the first 2 days back after 3 days off. I started buying a medium size jar of pickles. I take 4-5 gulps and eat one before bed. I also take a potassium and zinc supplement with it…and make sure I drink plenty of water throughout the day while at work. No more cramps.

If I skip a day here and there, I feel it trying, then immediately go to the pickle juice.

  46. MadMax Says:

zinc/magnesium…its called zma, its cheap on amazon

  47. GOB Says:

Max, yes. The general rule is half your weight in ounces of water per day. If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Brady drinks something like two gallons a day, so a guy the size of Hainsey would need more. It really isn’t that hard if you just drink consistently throughout the day.

I must caution people though. If you’re not active, and drink that much, you could give yourself a heart attack. Hyponatremia is a condition that basically dilutes the potassium levels in your blood. The heart’s electrical system runs on potassium.

  48. kennybuck Says:

I had bad cramps one day. and my neighbor who was a welder who’s used to working in the heat. He told me that to avoid cramps he would drink a pint tomato juice every day before work. also I heard fish oil tables every day works

  49. Lakeland Steve Says:

Maybe Bowles should notice Evans and Gage pull hamstrings and now Hainsey cramps up. Maybe dial back the work in the blazing heat and practice more in that beautiful indoor practice facility

  50. ocala Says:

Even if he is fine, the Bucs need to have a strong #2 at center unless Jenson is going to be back in three or four months.

  51. Melvin Junior Says:

I went to the last night of “Tilted-Kilt” in Clearwater & they’d already shut the A/C off (like in the middle of June, I believe it was)… It Was Like A SAUNA in there. Afterwards, I went with about 5-6 of those ‘Kilt-gals’ over to “Razzels” & closed it down. Long story short… I was in bad shape the next day. SO BAD that TWICE, the calf-muscle in my left-leg, cramped so damn bad, that it looked like a dented tin-can!!!! It. Was. AWFUL.

  52. Kody Says:

This is why l’ve been constantly saying GET TRETTER!!!!

What if Hainsey gets injured, I’ve been saying!!!

The Bucs are insane for not going after a veteran center!!!!

    NEED BACKUPS!!!

  53. Scooter Says:

Probably Brady’s last season. Agree with Passing, get a Vet with center experience.

  54. ModHairKen Says:

    Stay seated and remain calm.

  55. David Says:

Stay hydrated! Especially going against another team in practice. You have to imagine the intensity level just went through the roof after a week of just themselves.

JoeBucs fan bloggers have decided to sign Tretter to replace you on the golf course two days a week just in case you can’t do your duties for part of the year. No need to worry. We got the backup Kody wanted. Just not for the situation he wanted.

  57. Power of Pewter Says:

Well, that’s not good. My hopes of ending training camp relatively healthy are being dashed.

  58. bucfan34 Says:

Dang… Just move a wr to center. There, problem solved. 😂

    They’ll be ok. GO BUCS!!

  59. Canabuc Says:

Laurent Duvernay Tardif is a resident MD at my hospital.
He is potentially looking to return to NFL
    Licht should call him.
Give us a veteran with Superbowl experience at guard.

  60. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

I BELIEVE WE SHOULD GO AFTER TRETTER FOR DEPTH & EXPERIENCE..WE ARE ONLY GOING TO GO AS FAR AS A HEALTHY TOM BRADY CAN TAKE US..HE’S TOO VALUABLE TO THE TEAM TO TAKE UNNESSASARY CHANCES WITH OUR FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK..HE HAS TO HAVE THE TIME TO HIT ALL THOSE STAR RECIEVERS WE’VE ACCUMULATED..

  61. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

TRY TO SIGN TRETTER TO A ONE YEAR PROVE IT DEAL WITH ASPIRATIONS OF A SUPER BOWL RING AT THE END OF THE SEASON..COM’N TOM BRADY, WE NEED YOUR PR WORK TO DO IT’S MAGIC..

  62. BringBucsBack Says:

….Cramps and the HC doesn’t know or can’t tell?

  63. Bucschamp Says:

Hes not conditioned yet. Should be able to stand on one leg if cramps and not carted off like he broke a bone.

  64. T REX Says:

Need a plan b…too much riding on this season

  65. WVBuc Says:

Approach the expected 6-11 or 7-10 Detroit Lions and make an offer they can’t refuse for Frank Ragnow. Rags is signed thru 2027, so he’s going to be pricey. We are, however, all-in for 2022, right? I believe Rags began as a Guard, so if Jensen successfully returns in 2023, Frank can slide one spot left and our o-line is completely dominant in 2023. If Brady remains or retires, that won’t alter the need for a top notch group of big uglies.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

I read somewhere on this site that Tretter cant pass a physical.

If true it kind of makes all this Tretter talk…nonsense.
