Nick Wright: Tom Brady Is Third Tier

August 3rd, 2022

Ranks Tom Brady.

It seems quarterback tiers were a thing as the calendar turned to August.

Of course, Mike Sando of The Athletic seemed to start this stuff with his annual quarterback tiers summer column.

Nick Wright, co-host of the hollering show “First Things First,” seen and (loudly) heard weekdays on FS1, decided to do sort of a take on Sando’s quarterback rankings with a QB pyramid of seven tiers. Brady is on the third tier.

Though Wright, a Chiefs fan, is not a fan of Brady, he gave Brady his due saying he is the greatest player in NFL history.

Brady is better than Aaron Rodgers, per Wright, and Joe believes that is a smart choice. But Wright does have Brady on the same level as Matt Stafford and Joe Burrow.

You can see Wright’s pyramid below.

If I were to start a franchise now, yeah, sure I’d take Mahomes over everyone.

If I want to win a Super Bowl this year, there is no better choice than Brady.

  2. SB~LV Says:

I’ll dump this here as a PSA
find Mike “Big Head Greenberg” interview yesterday on the Pat Macaffee show yesterday
MG is the Bucs “capologist “
    Very interesting

  3. D-Rome Says:

Burrow and Stafford are not on the same tier as Tom Brady. I would not put Russell Wilson on a tier below Lamar Jackson, Massage Watson, and Dak.

  4. Mike Says:

So, last year’s MVP and runner up to the MVP are 3rd and 4th tier. Nice.

  5. MadMax Says:

Never heard of him….but he looks confused

  6. Nick Says:

He’s pretty right on with these takes and rankings in my opinion. Not too many QB’s are more desirable than TB even at his ripe old age. Football is a Year to Year proposition. I couldn’t be more excited as a Bucs fan because we all know if TB is our QB-we’ve got a serious shot at another SB victory. Go BUCS!!

  7. Gofortheface30 Says:

I personally think the GM that said Mahomes “freestyles” a lot is fairly spot on. He’s fairly “mid” when operating strictly from pocket, and has to make second and 3rd reads. Picking nits? Sure. Still a great quarterback? Absolutely. Clear cut best? I’m not so sure. Aaron Rodgers my be the most in control player at the position I’ve ever seen along with Brady and Manning, and if I’m starting a franchise Justin Herbert, Burrow, Allen are the guys for me – all day.

  8. geno711 Says:

He has had hate for Brady for years. Only recently (after his Bucs) success has he been Brady his due even a little.

His new tier that only Mahomes is in the top tier and Allen and Herbert are in the 2nd tier was just his latest click bait way to disrespect Brady.

My gosh, Herbert looks great at some points of his 1st two seasons but to rate him this high with zero playoff games and 25 interceptions in 32 games. Just silliness. Herbert holds on to the ball too long sometime because he still does not recognize what the defense is doing.

  9. Pewter Power Says:

That list is as funny as the size of his nose.

  10. Bucschamp Says:

    Dumb list

  11. Danny C Says:

How the heck is Herbert so high …. the kid has literally done NOTHING

  12. Craig Says:

If he is a betting man he is going to lose his shirt.

Mahomes shtick is almost played out, everyone has him figured out.

Allen is still kind of streaky, Herbert and Burrow are both the real thing but lack the experience.

Stafford is in the right place, but it isn’t going to be what it was last season.

He also forgot Kirk Cousins. No flash there, but a solid football player.

  13. Steven007 Says:

The idea of a tiered pyramid is silly. Because of course it’s a team game. Put Mahomes on the jaguars and see how well he does. He was very fortunate to be drafted by a talented team with a top level coach. Sometimes luck has something to do with it. I’m more impressed by Josh Allen’s ascent. Out of Wisconsin with terrible stats frankly and a mediocre rookie year. Has completely turned it around. And Herbert as well. Promising young talents. Burrow would be in roughly that same category. Prescott has never impressed me. And to have Kyler right next to Russ is embarrassing. Even without the playoff and super bowl wins Russ is a better QB in multiple ways. Then there is Lawrence who has done exactly nothing thus far. Yet is on the same tier with Wilson. This guy Nick wright might actually be retarded. In the non pejorative use of that word.

  14. Maniac Buc Says:

Third tier is probably accurate for Brady in this kind of stack up. Brady is not the “best” QB in the league anymore, we’ll at least until the playoffs roll around. 3rd of 4th is right. I would replace Herbert with Rodgers though.

@Craig, if throwing for 4800 yards, 37 TD and 13 INT, which more than half of them were tips, is the league figuring you out, then every QB in the NFL is figured out. Nobody has “figured out” Mahomes, the guy is just good.

  15. BuucccNASTY Says:

Nice geometry lesson.. don’t see how it applies to real football though

  16. Mort Says:

Nick Wrong just out here proving me right every time the doofus opens his mouth. Idiot.

  17. Anonymous Says:

Wow, that guy is an absolute clown on so many levels. By the end of next year sensible unbiased people will realize Josh Allen is the best QB in the NFL.

  18. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Brady might not have the physical ability to compete with those young guys but his mental toughness and critical thinking beats all of them hands-down. Physical ability can only bring you to playoffs but mental toughness can bring you all the way to SB consistently.. like 7 going to 8th…… GOBUCS!!!

  19. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Who is he? And what tier is he on as an NFL commentator? 437?

  20. Buccsfanchad Says:

Nick Wright isn’t competent enough to water my fish while I’m on vacation. That guy is a garbage sports writer.

  21. fern Says:

    Jag off

  22. adam from ny Says:

holy moly…nick is clearly an eraserhead

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Hot dayum everyone doesn’t like Nick Wright.

  24. Outsider Says:

    Good ol Nick the nose

  25. Listnfrmafar Says:

Sorry, Mahomes 1 Brady, Rogers 2 Allen, Hebert, Wilson 3 the rest are irrelevant.

  26. SB~LV Says:

Remember when it was a 12 game season.
17 going on 18 is not good for the game, a game of brutal contact

  27. Beeej Says:

Brady trailed only Josh Allen and Joe Burrow in fantasy production last year (Take note Mahomes was behind, not in FRONT)

  28. BuxfaninTX Says:

Dan Fouts was great but never won a Super Bowl= Justin Herbert until he wins something he shouldn’t be ranked that high

  29. tbbucs3 Says:

I really dont get the Herbert hype, hes good but overrated. Watson is overrated too, in his big “breakout” year his team went 4-12. Same number of wins as David Mills.

  30. Kalind Says:

Trolls gonna troll. Just move on. This dudes been a notoriety seeking clown for awhile.

  31. SlyPirate Says:

When Rodgers, the reigning two-time MVP, is fourth tier,
you know this is click bait.

  32. DG060 Says:

Ahhhh good old Nick Wrong. The little weasel.

  33. RPK Says:

Mahommy is 0-2 against TB12 in the playoffs

  34. directdriver Says:

    Mahomes
    Rodgers, Allen
    Brady, Burrow, Stafford
    Herbert, et al…

I love Herbert but I can’t place someone who hasn’t won or even been to a playoff game to be in the top 3 tiers of the pyramid.

  35. Trey long Says:

    He’s a broken record

  36. Bucs Win Says:

    What an idiot.

  37. Chris Says:

Any of you morons who are actually Bucs fans and think Brady is anything but #1 are tools. Rodgers/Mahomes are clearly behind Brady. Allen is 2, Burrow is 3.

  38. David Says:

This guy is irrelevant. He says things to get attention, nothing more.

  39. Listnfrmafar Says:

I don’t understand all the Burrows hype. Cincy defense won the KC game and he shat himself in the SB. He is an injury waiting to happen. I put him in Jimmy G. Category. Those dissing Hebert need to watch him more, he is a polished Josh Allen. Sure Allen is a stronger runner but Hebert can play.

  40. Eddie Marz Says:

When is Nick Wright right? He makes a fool of himself most of the time, hoping that he has a 50-50 chance of making the correct call, and he can’t even do that. LMAO! GOBUCS!

  41. Eddie Marz Says:

PS If Mahomes was better than Brady why did his team lose both games in the playoff to Brady’s team? Just because he runs around like a chicken and throws balls into the end zone doesn’t make him great.
