Locker Room Chatter From Ke’Shawn Vaughn

August 15th, 2022

Bucs running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

One of the quietest dudes on the Tampa Bay roster pounded in a touchdown on Saturday night and had a few things to say about it.

Third-year RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn is battling for playing time after leading the Bucs in rushing in multiple games last season, including Week 1 of the postseason against the Eagles.

His early touchdown run in short yardage against the Dolphins on Saturday won’t be remembered by Bucs fans next week, but it did mean something to Vaughn.

“It don’t count, but it count to me. That’s all that matters,” he said. “Every rep to me is a big rep, making sure I’m where I’m supposed to be and doing my job.”

On that one-yard touchdown run, Vaughn followed rookie tight end Ko Kieft, who debuted as as punishing fullback/blocking tight end.

“Just watching him at practice going head up with guys, you know you can trust being behind [Kieft] as a lead blocker,” Vaughn said, noting that offensive coaches emphasized running the ball against Miami.

As for the busy Bucs quarterback of the night, Kyle Trask, Vaughn said Trask’s “improvement” was visible and important.

“Kind of seen him get confident in himself,” Vaughn said. “That’s the biggest thing, especially on this level, being confident.”

I don’t live in Tampa anymore so I can’t watch practice and I really don’t know what happens at practice. What I saw from Ko Kieft during the game is he seemed tentative when “searching” for his man to block. Almost like he wasn’t sure who he was assigned to. But when he made contact he became a monster.

  2. D-Rok Says:

As long as he tentatively pancaked his man, Lt. Dan, LOL. His blocking impressed me and with more reps, he will be less tentative, I’m guessing.

  3. D-Rok Says:

Vaughn is sporting an imposing man-beard. Excited to see his progression this year, and I think we have a way-above average RB room.

  4. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Vaughn didn’t impress in Saturday game… enjoy the bench son

  5. Canabuc Says:

Well Barner going to IR and Bernard banged up so he could be the 2 or the 3 and Laird just signed.

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Wow….sounds like the Bucs took a licking (injury wise) on Saturday night

  7. Marine Buc Says:

Bucs just signed FA RB Pat Laird… Makes me wonder how bad Gio’s injury is.

  8. D-Rok Says:

Eeeks! I just stated how I thought we had a good RB room with the 4 we have….now subtract 2 from the room and wowsers. Suddenly thin at RB. I will have to look up Laird – never heard of him.

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Maybe convert one of our many wide receivers to RB?

  10. Goatfarmer Says:

Vaughn can play boys. Don’t diss him. The OL was scrubs and newbies. Go watch the Eagles game. Vaughn played well.

  11. Anonymous Says:

Trask doesn’t get that same excuse though, right, Goathumper?

  14. BucEmUp Says:

He looked really good toward the end of the season last year good depth

  15. Rod Munch Says:

White should be the #2, you’d think, which means Vaughn would be your #3. Nothing wrong with that, he’s shown enough that he could be an average replacement level player with a chance at still having an upside, which is what you’d like to see out of a #3.

  16. Marcel Says:

I thought rookie RB Raashard White looked good out there

  17. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Anonymous

I believe both Trask, Vaughn, Hainsey and every other young Buc being developed is given a chance… I trust our GM. He is pretty decent compared to the last train wreck of a GM we had.

“Rock Star” – LOL!!!!!!!!!!! What a joke.

  18. Goatfarmer Says:

Anonymouse – ever seen Trask play against a good team in a playoff game?

    Humpnthis moron.

  19. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I have never been a big fan of Vaughn, and feel he will always be an average to below average running back.
Rasheed White is our new star running back, IMHO.
Ronde Barber has noticed White too, and openly gushed about him, on the air.
Gio Bernard can catch, but he is slow compared to White, and just can not stay healthy.

  20. Crickett Baker Says:

Rumor is we have signed Carl Nassib. I don’t know how I feel about a guy who identifies himself with something other than a football player..

  21. Infomeplease Says:

CricketB CN can suck anything he likes as long as he gets 8 ormore sacks!!

  22. Oddball Says:

Just saw a “Kieft’s House of Pancakes” t-shirt worn by Gopher fans last year. Might have print some up with 41 on it. Hope this dude stays on the 53.
