Lavonte David Talks Speed

August 29th, 2022

Lavonte David

Joe couldn’t pass Saturday on pushing Lavonte David in the locker room to talk about the new/old gear he’s using on the field.

Before the Colts-Bucs preseason game, Joe was writing here about being so happy that Bucs fans would get their first glimpse of revitalized David during Saturday’s game broadcast (unless you were one of the lucky handful that got to see him in pads in training camp).

And David delivered.

The camp speed that made David look like a younger version of his 32-year-old self showed up in hurry against Indianapolis. Tampa Bay’s first-team defense made its preseason debut and David promptly sacked Matt Ryan on the opening drive for a seven-yard loss.

It was a blitz and David’s shiftiness, footwork and explosion were on display. (Twitter video below)

Joe asked David to put perspective on the speed he’s recaptured after an injury-plagued 2021 season.

“My whole thing is just trying to work on my explosiveness and continue to keep my speed up,” David said. “I’m just steady rising. This is the 2020 gear, you know what I’m saying, and I feel 2022 will be my best of this decade.”

The first-team defense allowed 18 yards on 8 plays before being pulled. That’s fantastic production. David said he grades the effort mostly on how perfect the communication was, and he said it was totally on point.

Injuries will ruin any NFL prediction, but Joe sure does see David having a heck of a bounceback season.

Wow…two offensive lineman struggling to try to slow Hicks down. Our linebackers will have a field day piling up the sacks.

I love me some bone-crushing LVD quarterback hits!

I couldn’t see whether French was on the field for LD’s sack, but man, his buddy Fries looked horrible against Hicks, allowing the sack.

Not sure if Fries was scared or confused, but that play was dope. For us. If that play is anything like we’ll see on the regular this season, look out, offenses.

  7. Cobraboy Says:

Hicks just crushed the pocket on that sack by David.

Lavonte low key looks like Ye!

    🤯

  9. David Says:

That was a thing of beauty. Hicks split the line and Forced them to double team him opening it up for LVD. Vea, JTS, Shaq weren’t even in!

    LFG!

Proud to see his progression as a player and a person. Buccaneer Man!! Remember the days when he’d get interviewed in preseason and always say the same thing… “we got to clean it up before the season starts” , thank God he no longer has to be around losing at this stage of his career. Great for him. … and yes be may be better than Brooks at this point.

I’m hoping White controls his speed because he has it…..4.42 can run down all RBs….All TEs & most WRs…….

Week after week announcers dub our LBs the fastest…..

  13. SB Says:

Most Underrated and disrespected player of all time IMO.
Not just because I am a Bucs fan either. The Numbers don’t lie.
