Ezekiel Elliott Illustrates Cowboys’ Desperation Versus Bucs

August 24th, 2022

Eighteen days from kickoff, Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott delivered a smile to Joe’s face.

Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio today, Elliott talked about the importance of leaning on him and the Dallas running game during the first four weeks of the season. They’re Week 1 game is hosting the Bucs.

And Elliott referenced how receivers like Noah Brown and Dennis Houston and Jalen Tolbert and Simi Fehoko are emerging, which gives him confidence. You’re one hell of a serious NFL fan if you recognize those four names, guys the Cowboys hope rise from the shadows to complement No. 1 receiver Cee Dee Lamb.

Dallas might move running back Tony Pollard to receiver against the Bucs in the season-opener, but that could/should hurt their run game and Pollard isn’t exactly a scary receiver.

Former Cowboys WR Amari Cooper burned the Bucs last year for 13 catches and 139 yards with two touchdowns. Now he’s on the Browns while current Dallas receiver Michael Gallup is hurt.

Dallas couldn’t run on the Bucs last season and they’re 2022 weapons through the air are weakened significantly.

Joe can’t think of a reason why Dallas should be able to put up more than 21 points on the stop-the-run Bucs, and that should be enough to open the season with a win.

Well Dak Prescott was supposed to be rusty after missing most of the year before and he lit us up pretty badly so don’t put too much faith in that

  2. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Why is it every time we think we have a HUUUUGEEEE advantage on another team, we usually blow chunks!

Jets put up points vs bucs

  9. Buc4evr Says:

    Suh. It’s not too late

  10. MadMax Says:

In my prediction, back when Brady came back, I said 1-4, Dallas being the win….then we get it together and go all the way. I dont know now….crystal ball is showing very murky waters ahead.

  11. SKBucsFan Says:

The fact that our CB’s don’t know them is all the more reason to be concerned. Playing them too loose will come back and bite us in the behind.

  12. GOB Says:

Zeke is a toolbag. Only Skeletor (Jerry Jones) is stupid enough to waste the 4th overall pick, on a freaking running back. I think the bucs absolutely squash America’s Team. In case you didn’t already know, GOBs hatred for the cowboys, Jerry Jones, and the entire Dallas operation runs deep. Go Bucs!!!!

  13. Architek Says:

Can we get DBs that are capable of intercepting the ball???

  14. Ausgust 1976 Buc Says:

So the Cowboys “could not run last year” but we all know in large part is they did not really try to.
It was easy pickins for Dak and whoever he was throwing the ball to.

This is a good place to see if there is actually improvement in the Secondary.
Yeah Pass rush is key, but if you line up as a corner, giving up first downs because you are a mile off the receiver then you neutralize your own pass rush.

Hopefully the CB’s, at least sometimes, will begin to jam these receivers at the line, and help out the pass rush,, mess up Dak timing some. It would be nice if they stop giving up the 1st downs like it is stealing candy from a baby, just because of scared coverage by the DB’s.
It is time to fight, not just be passive get walked on by Dak again this year.

Hopefully the new blood in the secondary will translate into improvement, and begin to show some real fight on game days, and not just passive coverage crap, thereby neutralizing your own pass rush. The secondary has to step up. and carry their weight like they did in the playoffs on the Super Bowl run.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

    How are their lines?

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Lets see what Elliot has left. He seems like he has lost a little something throughout his career. But you never know, he might have a breakout season. I got our Offense carrying the day in our season opener. Can’t wait. Live Thursday night football before a national audience. Got me popcorn and libations already lined up.

  19. SB Says:

I know I won’t pick Elliot up before the fifth rd.

  20. GOB Says:

Ausgust, absolutely correct. The bucs DBs gave up way too much space last year, Davis and Dean especially. Zone coverage has it’s place, but when you’re blitzing nearly half the time, it can be problematic. Most good QBs can simply point out the pressure, and adjust the route. I screamed at my 85 inch Samsung more times than I could count during the Dallas game.

Bowles must be more gameplan specific this year. Believing in the scheme is one thing. Dying on the hill is another. If it isn’t working, adjust. I have November 6 circled on the calendar, as a litmus test for Bowles. Here’s a nickels worth of free advice. Don’t blitz a QB who has a 70% comp. rate, and 1 int. against the blitz all year. If the divisional loss proved anything, it’s that Brady only needs a chance.

    Don’t jinx it brah

72-0 Bucs. Betting both cars and the house. Right Joe?

  23. 1sparkybuc Says:

Antonio Brown just signed a one year deal with the Cowboys.

  24. BucsfanFred Says:

Sounds like our defence will feast.
Dallas has a pretty good pass rush.
    What to snack on?

  25. BucsfanFred Says:

WTF, AB went to Dallas. We should throw him a blanket party.

  26. 99 55 47 20 Says:

Keep looking for a podcast here but when I don’t see one I think maybe I’m on Ian Beckles page by mistake lol

  27. George Says:

Bucs to fix the offensive line to have a chance at beating Dallas

  28. BucsfanFred Says:

I can’t find confirmation of AB to Dallas

  29. David Says:

For allegedly being Buccaneer fans, it’s rather remarkable and amusing how many people think there’s a chance in hell that they will sign SUH back.
    1. He’s overpriced
    2. He got worse and worse against the run last year
    3. He could not pass rush anymore
    4. Depth issues are at the O line, LB, and safety positions. Not DT

So in a nutshell, give it up. Him and JPP are done… Unless they’re signed on the cheap, later in the year because of injuries

  30. Crickett Baker Says:

Supposedly Brown got a 3-year deal with the Cowboys. Wth is up with that?? omg I can’t think this through.

  31. Winny Testaverde Says:

Jerry’s World will be buzzing on SNF…fevered pitch and their version of a SB. Ewok-iel is the least of my worries, however. Pollard is better than him now. Their defensive front might just manhandle the patchwork Bucs O-line. Dak couldn’t miss against the Bucs last year. That was a very fortunate win to open the season in 2021.

  32. Listnfrmafar Says:

If the AB story is correct, Cee Cee and AB will torch the secondary. Blowout Dallas 35 Bucs 24. Bowles uses the same game plan every game. NEXT! 0-1

  33. Winny Testaverde Says:

Uh boy…Listen From Ma’s Car is getting squirrely and sideways again. Brown news hasn’t broken…even if…a huge if…he needs ankle surgery ( allegedly ).

  34. Alvafan Says:

Unfortunately, that’s true. Bowles is not very good at recognizing cracks in his game plan and making the necessary adjustments to get his defenses back on track

  35. Capt.Tim Says:

    Still singing the same song.
Currently, we will open the season with two-TWO- first time starters.
Both in the interior line. Yup, the achilles heel for our legendary QB.
    Pressure up the middle.

If we dont improve our guard position, 21 points may be enough to beat us.
    Its all about your lines.
    Protecting and rushing the QB.

  36. Joey Strom Says:

    Bucs 31, Cowboys 21

  37. MadMax Says:

Hey AB, break a leg out there bro….literally!

  38. Scooter Says:

WR’s Amari Cooper and Cedric Wilson traded away, WR’s Gallup and Washington out for Bucs game. 8 time Pro-Bowl Tackle Tyrone Smith out for Bucs game. Double team Cee Dee Lamb. Force Dak to pass to TE Schulze and RB’s Pollard and Elliot.

  39. Mark A Swygert Says:

It seems like whenever a Bucs game looks like a “gimme”, we find ways to screw it up. We play too soft or completely whiff in our initial game plan and wait too long to adjust. As for AB, even if this story is true, by his own admission he will require ankle surgery before he plays again, unless of course he ‘s been lying about his “injury” all off-season. Not a big surprise for a bi-polar headcase.
