Three Ws For Jason Licht

July 25th, 2022

“Look, Glazer, you’ve got a badass GM and don’t you forget it.”

It’s easy to throw a Jason Licht party these days. This isn’t 2018.

The Buccaneers’ ninth-year general manager has grown into one of the NFL’s best, and more anecdotal evidence appeared today on the pages of NFL.com.

A new list was pumped out and it’s an all-under-25 NFL team. So if you’re 25 or older, you don’t make the cut.

Our beloved Bucs have the most players on the list crafted and explained by Nick Shook. The Bucs are the only team with three representatives: Tristan Wirfs, Devin White and Antoine Winfield, Jr.

So Licht has a beastly core of young studs, the three Ws. And he’s loaded up the roster with experienced and iconic veterans to complement or corps of young talent with playoff experience and Super Bowl rings.

Throw in very exciting rookies and second- and third-year guys with promise, and it’s easy to see why the Bucs are the current betting favorite to emerge as NFC champs. The roster is loaded.

Licht is starting to remind Joe of the dude with the hot hand at the local carnival. You know, the guy crushing all the skill games. Every time you look around, it seems Licht is mowing down a duck with a baseball and winning a giant stuffed elephant. (And no, that’s not a backhanded Vita Vea-Akiem Hicks reference.)

A bunch of top 15 picks helps. Licht is a fine GM, but let’s see how the picks during the Brady area shake out. It’s a hell of a lot harder to draft with a winner. Ask Bill Belichick

  2. GOB Says:

    Era

  3. T REX Says:

BRADY…otherwise Licht is a total loser.

    WHat’s his record without Brady?

    GARBAGE. Give me a break.

Brady was recruiting and coaching for God’s sake.

As soon as Brady really retires this team is 5-12 if that

    Licht is a joke

  4. JimmyJack Says:

The great thing about being on this list is nobody on it had hit their prime. This is how you build a dynasty!!
    GO BUCS!!!

  5. PA Buc Fan Says:

T Rex shut up and go troll some other website. It’s miserable people like you that make the world the way it is these days. Licht has done an amazing job building this roster. Yes Brady is the key piece of it all but to say with all this talent we go to a 5-12 team is just being an idiot. Go Bucs!

  6. JimmyJack Says:

    “Brady was coaching”

    Lay off the sauce bro.

  7. T REX Says:

@jimmyjack…lol..it is common knowledge he changed the offense and was calling plays. Who is our QB next year? You can’t win in today’s NFL without a QB

    5-12 at best

  8. David Says:

    TREX
    😂😂😂😂😂

Ignorance is not a winning point.

He put the roster together dumb ass. I guess Sean Payton sucks as a head coach and GM because without Brees, they haven’t won anything.

    Same with Belichick.

In fact, every head coach and general manager that’s ever existed is crap when they don’t when everything with a stud quarterback

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

Well it’s not surprising that T-Rex would be making such comments. The brain of a T-Rex is smaller than a walnut.

  10. Dooley Says:

Brady was just the cap stone, best believe Licht, Greenberg, and Spytek did their fair share of work and went through trial & errors building this pyramid. Also, saying Brady is why we won, just means you haven’t been following this team long enough to watch it change year to year since Licht got here.

Also a cool note, which I credit to our scouting department, we’ve got a lot of players on the Bucs roster that were college teammates drafted/signed to this team in their tenure here. Perfect example, we drafted Anthony Nelson out of Iowa the year before we went back and drafted Wirfs. Stuard & Hall both went to Houston and played together. Winfield, Kieft, & Johnson all played together as Golden Gophers at one point. Dean, Davis, Britt from Auburn 3 separate drafts but player together. Vea, Otton, & Potoa’e all played at U-Dub. SMB & Goedeke out of Central Michigan. D-White, Lenny, Grayson, Robinson, and Anthony all played at LSU. Smith & Godwin out of Penn State. This to me isn’t coincidental and alot of these players make up the nucleus of our roster.

Say what you want about Licht, he and his front office mates have been on a tear drafting talent with minimal turnover the last 3-4 drafts compared to Lichts first 2-3 drafts in Tampa. You wouldn’t know that if you stated following this team in 2020

  11. BREVARD Buc Says:

All top 5 teams are one knocked out QB away from 9-8 season.
    Doesn’t matter if it’s Brady!

What will the PaCk do w/o Aa-ron or Rams w/o Stafford?!

Most important position on the field. Success tied to figuring out QB.

    Shocker!

  12. Miller5252 Says:

I think one of the biggest things here is the coaching staff and what they’ve been able to do with all the players. I really don’t understand why more teams don’t do what Arians did with 2 practices to get more reps. Yes, Licht has drafted some really good players, but who knows if that happens if Arians isn’t here with his long list of experience and picking people that fall under the mold he wants. Just like sending McCoy down the road… wasn’t the mold that fits this coaching staff.

  13. Allbuccedup Says:

Brady top qb and top gm.

  14. Delusional Intelligence Says:

To those throwing tomatoes at Lord Licht….. As the Joes and other fine commenters of this site have stated. If the roster Lord Licht constructed wasn’t here, would the Magical Unicorn known as Brady even have considered coming here? Your answer is given during Brady’s speech during the Super Bowl ring presentation.

“I chose to come here……It was a no brainer”
    – Thomas Brady

  15. Delusional Intelligence Says:

What Dooley said. Right on point IMHO

  16. bucfan34 Says:

TRex is short for ‘not so bright’? Who knew? I wasn’t aware until just recently.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

Miller5252 … ‘one of the biggest things here is the coaching staff and what they’ve been able to do with all the players’.

Yea verily. Champions have to be strong at ALL levels: GM, HC, coaching staff, QB, starting rotation AND depth. Making it to the Big Dance is a long grind each season, and everything has to fit together by the end to bring home the ring. Weaknesses = Vulnerabilities, and there are 31 other teams just itching to ‘cull the herd’.

Bucs have put together a championship TEAM, at all levels. Sustaining it post BA & post-Brady will be a real challenge, but the same is true over time for all teams. Salary CAP is very real, and lots of teams have fallen by the wayside staying within its’ constraints. Our time is coming, just like it is for the Saints and has already for the Falcons & Panthers. BUT … not right now. Fill in a couple more holes (depth) and we’re a legitimate contender for the 2022 crown.

  18. Goatfarmer Says:

Yea verily! DR, that made me laugh out loud. Even funnier, you made it work.

  19. 1#bucsfan Says:

T-Rex must be the TMAXIPAD. 1st if all TMAXIPAD our GM took over the worst 1st team in the nfl in 9 years he built a super bowl winner. You think TB12 came here because he would just call the shots hahaha you must of hit your head their bud. TB12 came here because of the roster that our GM built. Get your head out of your ass n you might learn something

  20. SlyPirate Says:

    IT”S ALL TB12!!!

I don’t agree with this sentiment. Licht’s pre-TB12 record was tied to Winston. TB12 came to Tampa because the team was loaded with the talent Licht had assembled. Remarkably, Licht has been able to retain and build upon that talent pool. It will be interesting to see what Licht is able to engineer at QB after TB12 moves on.

  21. Weston Says:

Who cares if we wouldn’t have won without Brady!?!?! Stupid argument.

-Jason & Bruce made the controversial call to jettison Winston and bring on an aging Brady. There were a ton of people who thought that was a terrible call.
-He build a team that not only was good enough to attract Brady, it was good enough to win the superbowl with him.
-He’s put on a clinic for how to trade in the NFL.
    -Cap management haas been phenomenal.
-You’re going to judge him on not drafting a great QB?? Who else did he have the opportunity to grab? Mariota definitely was not the answer either.

I hope we have Jason until he hangs it up!

  22. Goodbuc'nlife Says:

Are we seriously taking someone serious with a name T Rex. Come on bro…are you 12? Your take suggests you may be. Either your 12, or you don’t quite understand football dynamics. Name one Superbowl winning team or perennial contender without a good to great QB. I’ll wait for that…
