Ryan Jensen Goes Down Injured

July 28th, 2022

UPDATED 10:50 a.m. — Ugly stuff moments ago at One Buc Palace.

It’s unclear what happened, but it ended with Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen getting carted off after being on the ground in the middle of the main practice field for about two minutes.

Jensen threw his helmet in disgust as he laid on his back with teammates kneeling by his side. Mike Evans and Donovan Smith looked very concerned as a hush came over the stands.

Time for Robert Hainsey, last year’s third-round draft pick, to step up. Hopefully, the Bucs will have a positive update later today and Jensen won’t be out a significant amount of time.

UPDATE: Todd Bowles said it’s a knee injury for Jensen.

Huge loss…next guy better have his towel properly placed

  2. Steven007 Says:

Ugh, well this sucks big time! Obviously hope it’s nothing significant. The worst part about training camp, or football in general.

  3. unbelievable Says:

Well that’s one way to have your season go to chit in a hurry.

    Dang man.

  4. mark2001 Says:

One thing we do know. If it is nothing structural, the guy will be starting on day one of the regular season.

  5. #8 Says:

    Fuch

  6. mark2001 Says:

    Jensen is a warrior.

  7. PassingThru Says:

Jensen is the kind of guy who wouldn’t let himself get carted off the field.

    Bad sign; this is disturbing.

  8. Steven007 Says:

Hopefully it’s nothing significant. But if so this is where a veteran like Mason can really help. Experienced, knows Brady, can help the youngsters. But man we’d lose some attitude on the line if he’s not back for the regular season.

  9. A Bucs Fan Says:

Read that he was not able to put any weight on his leg while being assisted to the cart. Not a good sign.

  10. Costa Rica John Says:

    Oh noooooo!

  11. zzbuc Says:

    Jesus H christ!!!
    that’s really bad!!!!!

  12. SB~LV Says:

    Well it’s early

  13. Oddball Says:

    F$&k.

  14. Bucsfan13 Says:

If we can’t protect Brady, it doesn’t matter how many weapons we acquire. The loss of Marpet already looms large. Interior pressure bothers QBs more than anything, especially Brady. Jensen also sorted out protections with Brady, so we’ll also lose his football knowledge. Brady wouldn’t have come back if Jensen left via FA. Jensen was that important.

  15. BillyBucco Says:

    Unreal
So it begins before we even put pads on
    He is irreplaceable

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    Oh nooooooo!

  17. Gofortheface30 Says:

Passingthru- that I 1 thousand percent agree with. For HIM to be carted is no good. Throwing helmet the way he did points to the fact that he knows it. I have never hoped that I couldn’t be more wrong than I do right now. Praying for “just” an MCL or something – being out 8-12 weeks wouldn’t be the end of the world. Otherwise – can’t wait for those heavy up the middle blitzes from the dirty Saints with our tone setter out…

  18. A Bucs Fan Says:

I hope it is not serious but if it is the bucs could sign JC Tretter if they don’t think Hainsey is ready.

  19. PassingThru Says:

Next man up: Robert Hainsey, who played OT at Notre Dame but projected to be more of a OG or Center. He’s had a year to gain strength and refine his technique. But he is untested, as he only played a few dozen snaps last season.

After Hainsey, there’s no real depth. This is a real kick to the ‘nads.

Best free agent C: J.C. Tretter. Tretter is a quality starter, a bit of a surprise that he’s still out there.

  20. Dooley Says:

The same ankle Jensen rolled in the Eagles game last season.

  21. Leopold Stotch Says:

Absolutely horrible to hear this news rn. Hope it’s nothing serious

  22. PassingThru Says:

Ouch. Now I’m thinking soft tissue damage; ligaments.

  23. Oddball Says:

I think I had a little vomit just come up.

  24. Gettinthebucs Says:

    Huge loss

  25. Stanglassman Says:

Already replacing both guards and now center. Ugh!!

  26. Dean Giusti Says:

Jesus H Christ! Here we go again!

  27. D-Rok Says:

Well, this stinks! Hopefully he’s not out too long, but it sounds at least moderately serious. He is invaluable to our line and protecting Brady, plus we NEED his fiery attitude on our O-Line.

The only silver lining is that if it’s “only” a moderate injury, he could be back hopefully mid-to-late season for our playoff run.

Anxiously awaiting word on the severity of injury and prognosis.

  28. Adrnagy Says:

    Refund

  29. sasquatch Says:

Hopefully it’s a short term thing. If not, they’ll have to adjust.

  30. Dean Giusti Says:

    Disgusted.

  31. Cobraboy Says:

@PassingThru: Tretter is done, knee and ankle injuries. He played last season, but never practiced.

  32. Goatfarmer Says:

    Farg

  33. BucsBro Says:

Damnit. With the Julio Jones signing, we were basically all set and then this happens.

Not sure if the solution will come internally or if we need to go get someone. Assuming this is a year-ender. A guy like Jensen doesn’t get carted off unless it is very serious.

Real downer. But just plug the hole, and move on.

  34. A Bucs Fan Says:

He is getting an MRI this morning so hopefully we’ll know the extent of the injury soon.

  35. View from 132 Says:

Exciting year while it lasted. Brady will be rethinking coming back without a vet at center.

  36. Adrnagy Says:

    Broken leg

  37. Buxfan Says:

    Time to call JC Tretter

  38. Defense Rules Says:

Folks need to stay positive. Jensen’s a warrior & he’ll make it back just as soon as humanly possible. Praying that it’s nothing REALLY serious. In the meantime, this’ll give Hainsey a chance to put on his big-boy pants & run with the big dogs. We’ve got decent OLine depth to weather storms like this.

  39. james west Says:

damni’tt to hell, we need him

  40. Rene Says:

Not the kind of news I want to see. Let’s wait for the verdict. Fingers crossed

  41. PassingThru Says:

    @Cobraboy

Thanks. Well it’s Hainsley or bust.

  42. PassingThru Says:

    Hainsey.

  43. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Defenserules. I’m trying to be optimistic, but the evidence over the years is that interior pressure effects Brady the most because he can’t step up. With his lack of mobility, a loss like this significant. The left side of our line is largely unproven outside of Smith. Losing Marpet was the biggest loss in the off-season. Wirfs said when he first met Brady he told him the most important thing is not to get beat fast and inside. Having depth is way different than having quality depth that can sustain such a big loss.

  44. Mike Johnson Says:

All part of the NFl. Other teams got injuries too. Next man up baby.

  45. DoooshLaRue Says:

    DR is right (again)

This stuff happens every year. We’ll adjust.

    The sky isn’t falling.

  46. BUC CHEEKS Says:

It has to be serious…. This is Ryan Jensen we’re talking about!!! No way he stays down unless it was SMH 🙏 hope not

  47. Kansas95Buc Says:

Man I hope it’s nothing serious

  48. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

OMG, let’s all HOPE it is not serious ? All our weapons are worthless if Brady is not protected!

  49. SPARKY Says:

Hold me Mommy, I feel sick.

  50. Coburn Says:

So aside from hainsey would goedeke be able to sub in there? At the very least even if hainsey starts to it need someone as backup

  51. PassingThru Says:

Actually, J.C. Tretter started all of his games last season. He’s durable, starting every game since 2017.

I don’t know if Hainsey is ready, but Licht might want to put Tretter’s agent on speed dial.

  52. ModHairKen Says:

    Stay seated and remain calm.

  53. Bucschamp Says:

They said it’s swelling knee not ankle. Wondering how bad it is.

  54. Defense Rules Says:

Jensen’s not only ‘The Enforcer’, but he’s also the leader of this OLine. He sets the tone. He’s one tough mudder though, and he won’t be out 1 second longer than he absolutely has to. And if I had to choose a QB who can best deal with situations like this, his name would be Tom Brady.

  55. Bucschamp Says:

Also looks like there’s contact. Hopefully not that bad.

  56. Anonymous Says:

Call Marpet and beg him out of retirement!

  57. Jerry Says:

    The injuries are already starting.

  58. Marine Buc Says:

What a bummer… Time for Hainsey to step up. We have decent depth at G/C position but this still hurts.

    I hope it’s just a sprain and not a tear…

  59. T REX Says:

I hope he is ok. He is so important on that line.

    Please be ok

  60. PassingThru Says:

    @coburn

It’s possible. Both Goedeke and Hainsey are RTs who project as NFL IOL. At Center, it’s “how low can you go” as bend is even more important than at Guard. Goedeke is obviously more raw, but he plays stout at the line.

  61. SOEbuc Says:

Show us what you got Hainsey.

  62. Cobraboy Says:

@PassingThru: he never *practiced* and pretty much played on one leg.

    He’s done.

  63. Hodad Says:

Better now than way down the road.

  64. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Time to kick the tires of recently retired Centers

    -Alex Mack (SF)
    -Brandon Linder (JAX)

  65. BucsNoles Says:

JL told ESPN we may not get an injury update for a few days because of swelling.

  66. BucsFan81 Says:

Well let’s hope we can get him back in time for playoffs.

  67. Capt.Tim Says:

    Ugh. Horrible news for us,
    Worse for Tom Brady.
3 new starters at the center of the line.
    Thats a nightmare scenario.

  68. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

I would go out & sign JC Tretter like right now.

  69. Maniac Buc Says:

I hate to see anyone injured. However, I always thought Jensen was extremely overrated, and didn’t want to re-sign him to start with. I’m big in Hainsey and think he will end up a future pro bowl himself, so we’ll be ok. This hurt Brady comfort level more so than any scheme.

  70. A Bucs Fan Says:

Saw the video! Stinnie blocked Logan Hall right into the side of R.Jensen’s leg during a pass play. The contact and angle he went down was awkward and did not look good. Hoping it’s just a bad hyperextension, but that feels like wishful thinking.

  71. #8 Says:

Seems even in underwear the lineman should wear the braces? I have no clue, but seems smart-

  72. Buczilla Says:

    Damn, hope it’s nothing major.

  73. Bojim Says:

Getting carted off the field is never ever a good sign. Hope Hainsey is as mean as Jensen.

  74. RPK Says:

@Anonymous Marpet weighs 150 pounds now lol

What a terrible way to start off training camp if we lose our pro bowl center.

The O-line is already a question mark at guard, now this?

All the Julio Buzz is now lost and replaced with dark energy…

    PLEASE BE OK JENSEN
    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

  75. Allbuccedup Says:

Well with the 4 mil left for free agents I would presume we will look at centers still available.

  76. Bucsfan13 Says:

In 2019, Brady lost his center for the entire year, and it effected the entire offensive line. The C is the QB of the OL. No matter how many fans want to spin it, losing Marpet was a huge loss. Stinnie isn’t great, and Donnie benefitted from having Marpet on the left side with him. Yes, Brady’s quick release helps his OL tremendously, but it mainly protects his tackles. Interior pass rush is another beast. On Jensen’s injury, it was Stinnie who got beat badly! Brady could’ve easily been the one on the ground writhing in pain. Don’t forget about that when you’re trying to talk yourself into thinking this line will be fine. Brady’s also not a spring chicken anymore. He’s made a living of doing more with less, but to expect the same thing at his advanced age may be asking too much.

  77. MadMax Says:

Sucks…i dont know man, Good thing we got some beef back there….thats why you draft them.

  78. Oneilbuc Says:

We have Brady the refs don’t call holding that much with Brady, Rogers, or Mahomes on their offensive line anyway . So just plug a guy in and move on. We are good regardless !! Go Bucs !!!

  79. Goatfarmer Says:

ManiacBuc you may have set the record for stupid and that is a mighty feat.
