Rob Gronkowski Speaks About Retirement; “GMA” Taking Heads Skeptical

July 20th, 2022

Morning TV sitdown.

So mere hours after his girlfriend, TV host and model Camille Kostek told Sports Illustrated she didn’t think her man, (former?) Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski is retired, Gronk appeared on national television this morning and tried to convince folks otherwise.

Gronk did a sitdown with “Good Morning America” and basically repeated what he said before, that he is done with football. However, this time, “Good Morning America” anchor Michael Strahan and reporter Victor Oquendo were clearly skeptical of Gronk’s words.

Gronk didn’t say anything much different in this interview: he would take Tom Brady’s phone call but he wouldn’t play football. Oquendo clearly didn’t swallow Gronk’s response as he introduced the piece saying, “I’m going to let you decide if you buy his answer.”

Strahan began the segment saying of Gronk retiring, “Yeah, we’ve heard that before.”

The only thing Joe will add to all of this is to ask if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had made any moves to add a veteran tight end since Gronk first announced his retirement-maybe? No? Oh.

You can view the piece in the ABC video below.

(For those that whine about this subject, Joe has zero intentions of ignoring a Hall of Fame tight end speaking about maybe or maybe not returning to the Bucs, certainly not with both his agent as well as his girlfriend very publicly leaving the door wide open for a return. If you instead crave stories about Nick Leverett working on hand placement or Jaelon Darden running sprints on a Texas high school track, Joe knows there are lesser sites out there where you can get your fill of such information. If you don’t want updates on a Hall of Fame tight end, Joe would like to remind readers there are thousands of other stories you can read in Joe’s free archive.)

Dardung – the late season CFL addition of the Toronto Argonauts.

    Lol of course

ANY News of Gronkowski IS News, and worthy of inclusion here!
How can anyone claim to be a Bucs fan, and ignore any news about our Hall of Fame tight end ?

  4. Alanbucsfan Says:

Cade Otton – his debut is in 3 1/2 weeks, Bucs will evaluate and go from there.

  5. Dooley Says:

[Insert Wolverine picture frame meme here]

  6. Kody Says:

Gronk a day is so fun to play it never goes away

  7. Kody Says:

What’s Cade’s health status? Will he be ready to play on opening day?

We need a “Cade a day” on his health/injury status

  8. BucBoy Says:

One article per day on Gronk ain’t enough; we need two!

  9. Joe Says:

What’s Cade’s health status? Will he be ready to play on opening day?

Said this spring he would be.

We need a “Cade a day” on his health/injury status

Unfortunately Otton has not been made available for media access by the Bucs and network morning TV shows are not pining for his words (though Joe does know a “Today Show” producer reads this site regularly). So, will have to wait a week for any solid intel.

  10. Elita Vita Says:

Superb marketing strategy on his part. Keep dropping hints on both sides of either staying retired or coming back issue. Keeping his name in the news. Great for all present and future endorsements or business ventures (free of charge). Well played, Gronk!!!

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

    Suh.

  12. sasquatch Says:

No more Gronk articles. This is friggin’ ridiculous.

No, he’s retired. I’m sick of speculation that he’ll change his mind.

“I’m done with football.” — Gronk

It’s dumbass wankery to go on with this nonsense.

  14. JD from VA Says:

Why do yall complain about Joe’s getting us info about Gronk? It’s off-season and Joe makes every article worth reading no matter how slow it is. If you want some blah articles about random stuff go to pewterreport or bucsnation. Thanks for keeping us updated Joe.

  15. Hodad Says:

Other people keep doubting he’ll stay retired. Gronk keeps saying he’s done with football. If Gronk thinks he’s just having fun with everyone the joke has gone as stale as Joe’s Gronk he said she said stories. I think Gronks injury last season put the fear of morality in him. Can’t play football forever, and maybe walking away now is the only way to keep walking.

  16. DBS Says:

Don’t like don’t read it cry baby.

  17. DBS Says:

The rest of us enjoy them so STFU!

  18. sasquatch Says:

    @DBS,
You probably also enjoy TMZ. Knock yourself out, champ!

  19. Joe Says:

    Thank you DBS, JB.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Gronk-a-day…….Gronk told me he definitely, positively may or may not come back.

  21. Buc1987 Says:

    What DBS said.

  22. BucBoy Says:

    “JD from VA Says:
Why do yall complain about Joe’s getting us info about Gronk?”

Because it’s the same “info” over and over.

  23. SPARKY Says:

Nobody knows what a Man is thinking more than his wife or girlfriend. I like what Camille said. Gives me hope any way. Until I hear Brady is out tight end shopping, I’m thinking Gronk is still 50-50 coming back. Who doesn’t want Gronk-a-day if a picture of Camille comes along with it?

  24. MadMax Says:

Are we going after ODB jr. yet since Gronk isnt coming back?

Im tired of this sh!t…he always wanted to play with Brady anyways, and we need another weapon, he’ll have to sign team friendly (and he knows that) but lets grab him already and go get to that SB!!!!!

  25. Smashsquatch Says:

Thank you for posting an interview I would’ve otherwise missed. Week 0? Does that mean he’ll be back before week 1? 🤣

Early, late, or never returning; regardless I’m bullish on the Bucs this season.

  26. MadMax Says:

MF cant double anybody with Evans-Godwin-Gage-ODB!

  27. MadMax Says:

James Harden said sign whoever we need, i’ll take whats left over.

  28. Allbuccedup Says:

Kyle Rudolph is waiting on the Vikings if they say yes hes not coming here. If so Licht needs to work on plan B. Or he can just close his eyes kick his heels theres no tight end like Gronk, theres no tight end like Gronk.

  29. GOB Says:

I think the Rudolph stuff is real. Why the hell would you choose the Vikings and Kirk bleeping cousins, over Brady and a Superbowl ready team. Gronk is done, and isn’t coming back. Time for licht to get aggressive. They can’t go into the season with this TE room. If they had a healthy Godwin and a sane AB, I would be less worried.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

The dramaqueens who claim they can’t handle news like this are the same morons that said to stop writing about Tom Brady the moment he retired. There’s some real low IQ idiots out there.

  31. ErikTheViking Says:

Yet another topic we need to move on from. Gronk is gone, until and unless he decides otherwise. It’s time to look at what we have and decise if we need more at TE. One guy won’t produce like Gronk, but we can do it in the aggregate. Wake up Joe. You seem to be mailing it in again.

  32. Hodad Says:

Sparky, you have a wife, or girlfriend? I’ve been married 42 years, if my wife knew what I was really thinking my marriage would’ve lasted a day!

  33. GOB Says:

I think the Rudolph stuff is real. Why would you rather play with Kirk cousins, over Tom Brady and a Superbowl ready roster. Licht can’t go into the season with this TE room.

  34. sasquatch Says:

    Hey Ass Munch,
I stand by my insistence that Brady speculation was a waste of time. He was retired until he said he wasn’t. Everything in between was masturbatory bullshyte.

  35. sasquatch Says:

And yeah, Rod, you lead the pack of the “low IQ idiots” around here.

  36. Buc4evr Says:

Time to sign a veteran TE and move on…. Gronk a day is getting tiring.

  37. GOB Says:

Bradys whole retirement fiasco was a power play. He was playing this year in Tampa, or somewhere else. They told him they wouldn’t trade him. No team is emptying their draft board, for a QB that’s only playing one or two more years. You don’t travel to Europe to tell the owner you’re coming back. I don’t care what anyone says. Brady wasn’t in Europe, just so his kid could see his favorite soccer player. It’s called bait and switch.
The Gronk situation is a totally different animal. His body simply can’t take anymore. If he hadn’t suffered that horrible rib/lung injury, I could see a mid season return.

  38. Kody Says:

Brate ain’t great. Who thinks Cade can play?? Like be a serious badass right out of the gate?

I love it when rookies come out of nowhere and turn into superstars.

Hoping White becomes a serious supestar, too.

  39. Joe Says:

Sparky, you have a wife, or girlfriend? I’ve been married 42 years, if my wife knew what I was really thinking my marriage would’ve lasted a day!

    OOOOHHHH!!!

To be fair, if (in part) Camille’s immediate future is remotely connected to how much cash her man will or won’t make depending if he plays in the NFL or not, she likely has a very good idea of what Gronk may do.

What Gronk makes in the NFL can buy a sh!t load of diamonds, trips to Europe, another condo in the Virgin Islands and/or a yacht to veg on.

  40. GOB Says:

Joe, I think Gronk is doing just fine financially. From reports, he hasn’t spent a dime of his NFL earnings, just endorsement money. We’re not talking about super G here.

  41. BucsfanFred Says:

Joe, I’m pretty sure he can smother Cammille with diamonds already. If he comes back at all it’ll be after the bye and he’ll want his whole year’s salary for a few games and the post season.
Camille just wants her name out there to build her career while she’s still got Gronk as an attention magnet.

  42. AbucAway Says:

I’m here for the pic w/ Camille. Thx Joe

  43. Rod Munch Says:

sasquatch – you assumed the low IQ moron I referred to was you. However I don’t remember ever reading any comment you’ve ever made, so if I have read them or responded to them, it didn’t leave any lasting impact.

In any case you then used a “I know you are but what am I” comeback as a way to prove your superior intellect, so job well done, you got me on that.

  44. Tom Sumner Says:

    SEE YA SOON 87!!

  45. westernbuc Says:

If I retired from the NFL I wouldn’t be on GMA.
