Finding Replacements For “Big” Catches

July 4th, 2022

Replacing trusted targets.

Joe has no clue who owns the handle for this Twitter feed or what the purpose is, but after watching a few seconds of it, Joe’s stomach began to quiver.

And it had nothing to do with the flavored pretzels Joe was chomping on.

“@NoFlagsFilm” decided to piece together what he (she?) deemed to be a big throw from Tom Brady last year. Go ahead and watch it and start counting how many of the pass catchers are either gone, are expected to return or may not return at all.

The longer Joe watched the sicker Joe became.

Furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing, V-card-forging quitter Antonio Brown surely won’t be back. Foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski might be back. Chris Godwin? Who knows when he may be back?

That’s a helluva lot of talent Brady trusted that is currently gone.

Joe doesn’t care who the hell the quarterback is, take away three of his four trusted receivers and there is going to be a period of adjustment if not a step back. Yeah, even for Brady. Look what happened his last year with the Belicheats when Gronk first retired? Brady looked mortal in the postseason without Gronk, didn’t he?

The Bucs’ passing game without Gronk and Brown last year sure looked and felt off-kilter.

There is a whole lot of production in this video the Bucs are going to have to replace someway, somehow.

    Pin-point accuracy……..Beautiful!

I felt that some teams went bonkers in this last draft and started snatching receivers far earlier than they were projected to go. I can see a whole lot of buyers remorse in atlanta for taking London, slime ball city for taking Olave, and that disgrace of a franchise in our nation’s capitol for taking Dotson. It wasn’t a great receiver class to begin with, so I can’t blame Licht for not overdrafting a wideout. Pickings are slim in free agency too, so I really hope that Chris and Gage get well soon. Happy 4th of July!!!

  3. steele Says:

It’s a terrible thing that we are looking at the bottom dregs of free agency for a starting TE. Honestly I just don’t see a FA who can singly begin to fill Gronk’s shoes, so unless they pull a trade for someone better, it’s going to be a committee with the existing guys plus the one-year rental. Not pretty.

Sad that I’m even looking at guys like Kahale Warring, who has never lived up to his huge hype coming out. 6-5 260 4.5 speed, capable blocker, one of the “next Gronk” types but unable to stay healthy. Knows the Bill O’Brien offense. Was signed by the Saints then just cut a week or so ago.

  4. BucsfanFred Says:

I sure hope Gage works out. A few smurfs showing up would help too.

  5. Bird Says:

No doubt AB was a great receiver for us. To bad he was a mental case. Torpedoed the end of the season

Gage will have to step up. He will be going against a teams 3rd db with no safety help likely

Godwin will be back guys. Not sure why people think its november cause booger said so. They are saying obj returns october and he busted his acl in super bowl.

But dont forget , at one point brady was retired and the outlook was very dark. He is back. Pretty sure the bucs are not done with adding another receiver and or tight end. Bucs will be all in again. Especially knowing the nfc is rams and a few others. I think licht knows this and is ready to pounce on a player or two.

  6. Me Says:

Brady has proven to be a consummate professional and unequivocal winner. With the exception of Randy Moss, and Gronk, Brady has never had Hall of Fame receivers throughout his career, yet he always seems to float to the top and win. Brady won 3 Super Bowls before Gronk and Moss with receivers you can hardly name. Don’t count out the Bucs as long as they have Brady. Look how great Playoff-Lenny turned out to be with Brady at the helm…he was marginal at best pre-Brady. Everyone Brady touches turns to gold. Brady will find a way to win like he always does. He still has Mike Evans, eventually he will have Godwin back. Hopefully the Bucs will keep Miller and give him more playing time. Maybe Brady can convince Odell Beckham to come on board. Be patient and watch Brady work his magic.

  7. Wild Bill Says:

I am mostly concerned about blocking. Even average receivers can get open in man coverage. Mike will always draw double coverage. The others will mostly have single coverage or face zone coverage. The key will be for Brady to have enough time to find the open guy.

  8. Listnfrmafar Says:

Joe, BIG difference in Brady’s last postseason, all he had was an injured Edleman, ancient Ben Watson the TE with a injured ankle, Sanu and N. Harry both that couldn’t catch a naked woman in a phone booth. James White injured and Sony Michel doesn’t have Lenny’s new found receiving ability.Other than Edleman, the rest were junk and or rookies. Evan’s, Miller, Brate & Johnson, Lenny and Grayson, ALL day over that crew.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

For years we heard great QBs make average WRs look great…now we find out if that is true.

Rob Gronkowski will be back at some point. I believe that. Godwin will be back.

So really, only AB is the missing one…and good riddance. Never should have been a Buc anyway.

New stars will rise this season, regardless.

  10. Defense Rules Says:

Perhaps being concerned in June about this is much ado about nothing. PERHAPS Gage will be 100% by training camp & perform exceptionally well for us this year. PERHAPS Godwin will be ready to go by early in the season & be back to his old self lickety-split. PERHAPS Gronk won’t be able to resist the lure of playing just 1 more season with Tom Brady to cement his legacy. Or PERHAPS Brate & Otton will combine to give credible TE threats.

PERHAPS 1 or more of the younger, faster guys like Miller or Perriman or Grayson will step up big-time & provide the deep threat that our offense still needs. PERHAPS Fournette, White, Bernard and/or Vaughn will set the passing game on fire with some big plays out of the backfield.

You never know what a season holds when Tom Brady is at the helm. Heck, PERHAPS BL will even embrace ALL of the weapons at his disposal and develop creative play-calls to continually surprise our adversaries. PERHAPS?

  11. John Sinclear Says:

The adjustment period is training camp, AND Joe’s favourite, pre-season games.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Mike Evans.
    Scotty Miller (injured last year).
Tyler Johnson (due to take a leap in 3rd year).

Cameron Brate is healthy for the first time in years, and even injured he averaged over 8 ypc.

4 WR and 3 TE rookies who will be trying out (who knows? Godwin impressed, one of them could)

I admit, we are counting on a lot of young talent in the depth…but that’s where gems are found.

There is absolutely no way Gronk won’t be back. They would be looking for a replacement otherwise. I think he ‘retired’ to get the other teams off his back, and wants to wait till last moment like in the past.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Defense Rules, well said.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Scott Smith projects Cade Otton to be the #1 TE this year (we’ll see)

  15. PSL Bob Says:

What’s impressive to me is the amount of time he usually has to throw. He can watch the routes develop and pick out the open man. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have receivers who can catch the ball in traffic.

  16. SPARKY Says:

I like that high camera view behind the QB. You get to see what the QBs see, what the defense is doing, and what the lineman are doing. I also noticed that the QB is kinda good.

  17. Stone crab sam Says:

It’s looks like there will be a whole lot of checking down to a batch of RB’s going on this year is my guess.

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

TB12 almost beat the Eagles in what should have been his 7th SB if not for Belichick’s arrogance. I believe he threw for over 500 yds and 3 or 4 TD’s. His receivers were Amendola, Hogan, Gronk and Cooks who got hurt in the 1st qtr. The defense was horrible, point being, he’s done it with less.

  19. Brazen Zebra Says:

OBJ to the rescue!? I think Tom and OBJ could really get some chemistry going on the field. Beaucoup long TD chemistry! Kinda like Randy Moss chemistry? Pick him up, see what happens.

  20. Lori Louthan Says:

I feel very pleased with the Buccaneers.
The only thing that would please me more would be if Gronk would
UN-retire Again and RE-sign with The Buccaneers. Julian Edelman #11 join
The Buccaneers. Above all SIGN ODELL BECKHAM jr.

  21. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

something doesn’t make sense about this video. i thought brady’s arm had gone all soft and weak back in 2019. but there’s $100 worth of dimes in this video.

  22. GoatWatcher Says:

Brady lost Gronk, Hernandez, and Welker in 2013. Top 3 weapons. Still went to the AFC championship game.
