Tom Brady Does Not Rule Out Playing For Bucs In 2023

Tom Brady discusses future with Bucs

It wasn’t exactly convincing but Joe is looking at the positive angle here. Tom Brady did not say no.

The Bucs’ soon-to-be 45-year old quarterback (he turns 45 in August) did a Zoom sitdown with Robert Lundberg of SI.com to discuss football and, more importantly, how much longer he’ll play.

Unlike last summer when Brady teased he might just play until he is 50 as long as his body held up, Brady confessed yesterday he thinks the time it would take to get his body in elite football shape may be too much of a commitment at that age.

“How long could I play? Hypothetically, because I love hypothetical questions, I could play as long as I’m willing to make the commitment to playing,” Brady said. “I don’t think it’s gonna be another five years I’ll say that.”

But the Bucs next year? Again, Brady didn’t say no.

Robert Lundberg: Will we be seeing you in the creamsicle uniforms?

Tom Brady: Mmmmmm… never say never. I don’t know. It’s a good question. I’m going to take it year-by-year for sure on this. I know we are not wearing them this year but we are wearing them the year after this [2023]. So, we’ll see. We’ll see.

For those unaware, the Bucs are bringing back their creamsicles for a game in 2023. Initially, there was to be a throwback game this fall but that got delayed and pushed back a year.

Joe thinks it would be dope to see Brady wearing the creamsicles.

I know he really wanted to wear them, he posted about it before. I sure would love to see him in one of course, then he’s playing for us. Let’s just enjoy this year tho.

  2. VATom Says:

    Wow! Cool.

  3. Listnfrmafar Says:

NO WAY! He said 45 originally, Giselle bought in off to FOX we go. Cherish the time Bucs fans you’ll miss him when he’s gone, I know the majority of Pat’s fans still do especially when he continues to win. Side note, the NFL played a repeat of the Dallas/Bucs game, AB is crazy good. What a waste!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can we just enjoy Brady this year without worrying about next year…….it kind of takes the fun out of it.

  5. tampabayallday Says:

Win another Superbowl and he will be back.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

You’re not the only one who thinks it would be dope to see Brady in the creamsicle unis! Come on Tom. You’ve got another year in the tank. Just do it!

  7. Alvafan Says:

It all depends on what the team will look like in 2023. So if some of the young guys on defense and the O line looks good and the cap space is workable who knows. Let’s hope the dolphins suck this year and we stay healthy and kick butt

  8. adam from ny Says:

creamsicle tommy b would really be some classic league footage

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

The creamsicles remind me of losing losing and more losing. They are awful. Tom will say anything in the press but in reality he hates those godawful uniforms with the dumbarse winking pirate more than anyone.

  10. ocala Says:

That is a guarantee in my book. 😉

  11. Jeff Says:

Joe just confused a lot of people by using “pique” properly.

  12. '79 Defense Says:

Was really looking forward to seeing Brady play a game in them. Sounds weird, but if this is his last year, they should at least do a photo shoot with Tom in the original uniform just for publicity and the sake of Bucs’ history.

  13. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Joe said “dope”….

Are you gonna go get some “sick ink” next “bro?”
    😀

  14. Cobraboy Says:

I also do not rule out playing for the Bucs in 2023.

  15. MadMax Says:

Get Will Levis behind him for a year next draft….this is how dynasty happens….

    Lets build Mr. Licht!

  16. adam from ny Says:

  19. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Yawn. Wake me in August. 2022. I’ll worry about 23 when we get there, not before.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

Goatfarmer…I have a creamsicle flag flying out in front of my house.

  21. Show Me the TDs Says:

Most people hated the creamsicle uni’s. Now they’re a thing? I guess if you can accept male cheerleaders, then the creamsicles are AOK.

  22. JimBuc2 Says:

Hmmm.. I seem to recall the last Buc QB wearing 12 on his creamsicle got his jaw broken after taking a cheap shot.
    Go Bucs!

  23. View from 132 Says:

Maybe if Brady dies on the field in creamsicle the local homers will finally get over their love for what has to be worst pro uniforms ever used. Burn that old stuff. The 1979 feel good story aside, the Bucs became relevant when they switched to pewter.

  24. DoooshLaRue Says:

    I like both uniforms.

  25. BucBoy Says:

Reading guys squealing about seeing a guy wear a certain color is very gay.

  26. sasquatch Says:

Thankfully, we’ll never have to see Brady wear the Jameis-era uniform atrocities.

  27. Buccos Says:

Yes!! Let’s go back to the alarm clock uni’s. Those were dope! As in the guy who decided we should wear them is a dope and has no business working for the Bucs in any capacity except maybe selling hot dogs and beer.

  28. WVBuc Says:

Brady for five seasons would be tremendously satisfying to this lifelong fan. When he began teasing age 50 last year, I was as giddy as I ever was as a child on Christmas Day. I had delusions of getting seven to eight years with the best athlete in history being the linchpin to my favorite professional franchise.

Then came the out of left field retirement, unretirement and rumors of a flirtatious relationship with the Phins. It all added up to a heart attack on May 1. I’ve had practically nothing else going on this year, though I’m just a small bit past 50 years of age myself, I’ve been disabled for three-four years. Open heart surgery, triple bypass and aortic valve replacement done, I’m prepared to accept just five total years with Tom as my main escape from reality.

I’m still pretty weak so more definite answers would be great. Still, I’ll take these noncommittal but hopeful statements with open arms. Five years to rewrite much of the Tampa Bay record book for QB’s. Is any QB in history close to being the undisputed statistical passing leader for two franchises? Brady can claim several Buccaneer passing records with five seasons. Even more if he pushes out closer to age 50.

The closer to age 50 he might continue to play, the more records he’ll own for Tampa Bay. It would really be the only thing I can think of that would magnify his legacy. With five seasons he can approach and likely pass 25k yards. He probably takes the passing leader for yards with two more seasons and every season after that simply would make it a record he would have with a more firm grip.

  29. Buc92’ Says:

To me the jameis era Unis are the worst , has nothing to do with Jamies either they were just awful… the numbers , the lettering, the helmets all were pure trash

    GoBucs!

  30. Walter Says:

If I don’t get to see Tom Brady in those iconic creamsicle uniforms at least once I’ll be pretty bummed out. It would be legendary

  31. unbelievable Says:

Brady was on twitter last week pushing for the creamsicles… I wonder if he already knew that they would not be worn until 2023…

  32. Pickgrin Says:

“there was to be a throwback game this fall but that got delayed and pushed back a year”

Which is BS if you ask me. Other teams are wearing throwback jerseys with different helmets this year. And then the Bucs gave some lame-a$$ excuse of “supply chain” problems and thus couldn’t get the uniforms made in time or somesuch rubbish…..

Bucs fans deserve to see TB12 wear the creamsicle uni at least once and it probably won’t happen now. Glazers have more than enough resources and pull to have ensured this happened in 2022….. and they dropped the ball!

  33. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

The great Josh Freeman beat the epic Shaaron Rogers as a rookie in those creamsickles. Brady winning in the creamsickles would put an epic end to them, no need to bring them out ever again

  34. DRFEELGOOD Says:

He said “we” will be wearing them next year, not “they”. Hmmmm…..

  35. DRFEELGOOD Says:

    Prayers for you WVBuc!!

  36. Tom Sumner Says:

    Totally 12 creamsicle !

  37. sasquatch Says:

Trent Dilfer also wore creamsicle #12.
