NFL Scuttlebutt On A Pair Of Bucs Rookies

May 16th, 2022

Whoops!

This is a few days old but one of these elements is just downright cool and the second is downright hilarious.

First, the cool element.

Jeremy Fowler of BSPN talks to a lot of NFL suits and scouts for his job. And what he is hearing from scouts is very encouraging when it comes to Bucs rookie offensive lineman Luke Goedeke.

[A] scout suggested to me that offensive lineman Luke Goedeke (No. 57 overall) reminds people a lot of Ali Marpet, the guy Tampa Bay just lost to retirement.

Joe heard veteran NFL offensive line coach Paul Alexander, who worked with Goedeke during the lead up to the draft, told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he believes Goedeke will start at left guard for the Bucs this season, and will be a fixture on the line for a decade.

The second element got Joe laughing out loud. It seems, per Bucs’ rookie running back Rachaad White’s agent, that a team called him and said they were going to pick White when they were next on the clock. But there was a slight problem, as Fowler points out.

… On Saturday, White’s camp got a call from a team notifying that it was looking to take White early in the fourth round. Only one problem: White was already the 91st overall pick, going late in Friday night’s third round. White’s camp jokingly responded that Tampa Bay, White’s new team, probably wouldn’t want to unselect him.

Joe really, really hopes this mysterious team was the Texans.

    We were not Tennessee ready…

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Damn…..that means we might have gotten him with our early 4th round pick.

    Nevertheless, I’m glad he’s a Buc

  8. Irishmist Says:

To be fair, we did pick him pretty late on day 2. Undoubtedly past Lovie’s bed time.

I like this draft, we have got better, but so has the rest of the NFL!
    That said, Goedeke will be a stud for us for many years, and I think White will surprise some people.;

I still canโ€™t believe LS got a head coaching job in the NFL again. Note to anyone whoโ€™s playing the Texans, run slants.

  11. SB Says:

The Texans took Dameon Pierce. He will win the starting job

  12. Jon Says:

I’m not hoping for it to be the Texans. Do we really want a player who was on Lovie’s draft radar?

  13. Joe in Michigan Says:

Already taken, simple as that (in my Lovie Smith voice).
