“He Will Knock The Living Sh!t Out Of You”

April 28th, 2022

Georgia safety Lewis Cine.

Joe cannot help wanting ballcarriers on other teams, the morning after a Bucs win, to feel the hits they absorbed from excellent tackling.

And that is why Joe is late to the party but has his hands full of cases of Big Storm Brewing beer, jumping on the bandwagon of Georgia safety Lewis Cine.

The more Joe reads about the guy, the more Joe falls in love. It’s as if scouts and NFL draft analysts are talking about the next John Lynch or Ray Lewis playing safety. The only difference is, this Cine runs a 4.3-second 40 yard dash.

Joe decided to check out long-time Packers beat guy Bob McGinn’s breakdown of Cine after speaking with NFL suits, coaches and scouts for “Go Long.” And damn if they all don’t talk about Cine’s rib-rattling hits.

2. LEWIS CINE, Georgia (6-2, 202, 4.36, 1-2): Third-year junior, two-year starter. “Love him,” one scout said. “He’s a run-and-hit, mean kid. He will try to get into your soul. Plays with such great effort. He’s a ball-playing Jesse … He’s a different kid. I don’t know how well he’s going to fit in every locker room. He’s very high on himself. I think the kid’s smart enough to (accept coaching).” One of the hardest hitters in the draft. “He knocked out (Kyle) Pitts at Florida in 2020,” another scout said. “It was like a post (route). Pitts missed a game with a concussion (and nasal surgery). Not a real big kid but he’s wiry and can run.” Born in Haiti. Moved to Florida at age 4. Played three years in high school at Everett, Mass., and another in Cedar Hill, Texas, where an assistant coach at the school was Deion Sanders. “Was discovered by Deion,” said a third scout. “They say he’s kind of quirky, and he is. In his interview, he’s a little bit of an odd personality. I wouldn’t necessarily be scared of that. His straight-line speed showed up in coverage. I thought he could play down. He doesn’t have a ton of experience in the middle of the field but he can do it.” Played free safety, finished with 145 tackles (3 ½ for loss), two picks, 16 PBUs and no forced fumbles. Wonderlic of 16. Was suspended twice for fighting. “He’s not a first,” said a fourth scout. “Not a great man cover guy. But he will knock the living shit out of you.”

After reading this Joe is fired up AF.

Yeah, the Bucs have all kinds of safeties, Joe gets it. But with Cine’s 4.3 speed, he ought to be able to play some slot corner.

The difference between newly signed Keanu Neal and Cine is that Neal has missed 13 games in the past three seasons. Cine? He hasn’t missed a game for the Bulldogs the past three seasons.

(Yeah, yeah Joe gets it. Neal is in the NFL. Cine just finished his SEC days. But Cine not missing a game in three seasons of SEC ball is impressive. Cine stays on the field. Neal struggles to.)

Oh, did Joe mention that Cine’s assistant coach in high school was Deion Sanders?

Joe would just absolutely love to see Cine wearing Bucs’ pewter and red, totally rocking Marcus Mariota so badly that the gimmick runaround quarterback goes crying back to Chip Kelly.

I watched him a bunch this year. If they can’t move up and get Jordan Davis then, as much as I think they need DT because JPP and SUH are gone, I would not mind this pick at all. That would give them five safeties but three of them can play the slot

  2. Buczilla Says:

The parts about this dude trying to get into his opponents soul and knocking this sh!t out of people has kinda sold me. We do have far too many safeties, but who’s to say that we can’t cut a few if we draft this kid? Hopefully not wth our first round pick though since we are in dire straits at corner.

  3. MinnesotaBuc Says:

That’s all good and fine except you’re not allowed to hit people anymore. John Lynch would just be racking up penalties today.

  4. #8 Says:

    Schrager slotted him to Bucs-

  5. SB~LV Says:

    Okay by me

  6. BigRedMandingo Says:

    OG, DT/DE, CB = priority.

    “Appetite for contact.”

  8. Francisco Guzman Says:

I hope they go CB in the first round. Trade up if you have to.

  9. MadMax Says:

Im not for it but I’ll deal if this is the route we go…Safety isnt even on my radar with our situation and other needs….we’re good there.

  10. PassingThru Says:

He sounds like Jack Tatum, version 2.0

Tatum wasn’t a coverage guy either, he wasn’t out there to grab INTs. He was out there to maul the receivers. He timed his hits so that the split second the receiver touched the ball, Tatum would unload with an explosive hit. That is also when you’re most vulnerable to a hit when you’re a receiver. Unfortunately, Darryl Stingley (first round prospect Derek Stingley’s grandfather) was on the receiving end of one of those hits and it paralyzed him for life.

  11. Steven007 Says:

Watched a video on this kid from the combine. Seems to have a really good head on his shoulders. From reports he seems to be the polar opposite of the other safety that’s been talked up, Hill. I think coach Bowles will like this guy.

  12. Steven007 Says:

He’s built like Ed Reed but faster. Obviously not saying he’s Ed Reed or this would be the easy pick. But yeah, good size and wiry. Will be an interesting night.

  13. BigMacAttack Says:

Bulk him up to play linebacker

  14. Oneilbuc Says:

With a mindset like that in today’s football he will be given up personal fauls every game and will be labeled a dirty player. Even though I love that type of football but the game don’t want those types of players any more it’s unfortunate that it’s like that now days. That’s why I didn’t think the Godwin hit against the saints was dirty or the hit on Jamies was dirty. I miss that old school football.

  15. Mike Says:

We have needs and there are good athletes available. This kid ius a third or even fourth rounder. Kaiir Elam in the first round. Cole Strange, Guard from Tenn Chatanooga 2nd round. Nose tackle third round and then more nose tackles and D-Backs.

  16. Buc4evr Says:

Agree with MNBuc, He will get penalized and fined until he learns to play NFL flag football. I’d rather see us get Hill as he has played CB and Safety.

  17. Buczilla Says:

@Oneilbuc Ya man, today’s football is a sissified, watered down version of what it used to be, but it’s still the best sport going. I can easily see the nfl allowing qb’s and receivers to be hit again if they start to lose ratings, but I’m not holding my breath.

  18. Bobby M. Says:

Pass…..”odd personality” is fine when you’re the best on your college team. Jameis Winston was an “odd personality” as well……these are pros not kids playing college ball. With social media being such a distraction for these young guys, personality traits matter. AB was an “odd personality” as well and exceptional talent, never seems to work out.

  19. D-Rok Says:

Guys who have an appetite for destruction tend to elevate play of those around them. His play could be infectious for the defense, in a good way. He looks like a “dawg” to me and those are always the best football players.

  20. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

“Not a great man cover guy”………have you seen our coverage, constantly inconsistent, to many Big plays being given up, would rather have a pass defensed then a completion with a big hit. just saying.

  21. Jfgobucs Says:

    Hell yes…

  22. SlyPirate Says:

Bobby M … I agree. The Buc’s locker room seems like it has great culture. Stay away from the drama.

  23. mike Says:

    sounds like jordan whitehead

  24. Bucamania Says:

This dude could help stop all those quick throws to the boundary that plagued the Bucs D last year. He blows those plays up all day in that video.

  25. Bigz Says:

Again, if watched UGA Cine always made plays. If they want a S and he’s there, he’s the pick.

  26. D-Rok Says:

For what it’s worth, Cine was the Defensive MVP for the college National Championship. That’s impressive. The more I see of this player the more I like him.

  27. steele Says:

I’m fine with anyone knocking the living sh t out of Cooper Kupp and Matt Stafford.

  28. Jor God tha Binks Says:

This article kinda fired me up AF

  29. Ben Harvey Says:

Jermaine Johnson is still available. Do the Bucs take him if he is available?
