Coin Flip For Rob Gronkowski

April 3rd, 2022

Options for 2022.

So the question on every Bucs’ fans mind these days is, “When the hell is foot-rubbing tight end Rob Gronkowski going to sack up and get back to the Bucs?”

It’s still a toss-up. But Bucs fans, be comforted knowing if Gronk plays any football this fall, it is with Tampa Bay.

J.C. Cornell, the founder of The Draft Network, was somewhere yesterday where Bucs heavy hitters were. Cornell posted on his Twitter feed how he was catching passes from Tom Brady and then last night he posted a photo of himself posing with Gronk.

In the Twitter post, Cornell typed that he asked Gronk about playing for the Bucs this fall. Gronk said it’s 50/50. However, Gronk told Cornell he is 100 percent certain if Gronk does play football this fall, it will only be for the Bucs.

So there you go, Bucs fans, Gronk will only suit up for one team. Now, will Gronk suit up at all? Gronk, if you think about it, he can be in no hurry to sign. He doesn’t need OTAs.

Tell Gronk to take the first half of the year off, but stay in shape. Come week 9 or 10 start slowly getting him up to game speed and shape just in time for the post season. That way he won’t get beat up all season and he’s full speed when he’s needed most. If he’s only playing half the year he can take a small contract and get Suh back with the rest.

  2. Leopold Stotch Says:

One more year. This seems like it’s Brady’s swan song, at least with our beloved Bucs. One more year and we can have a rookie learn from Gronk, and then hopefully have another ring and hang em up for good.

  3. Bucsfan4ever Says:

Gronk is a coin flip for me too.
I guess he’s good for half a year.

  4. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Tom Brady will call him when the time is right. He’ll play again.

When Byron gets a head coaching job and Tom Brady retires as a player…I’m thinking Tom Brady as OC for the Bucs!

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It is entirely possible that Gronk just wants to avoid the camps. I’m fine with that. He’s earned it.

  6. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

    The Last of the Mohicans.

  7. ModHairKen Says:

    He knows the plays.

  8. catcard202 Says:

Bucs FO can keep the light on for Gronk until mid-JUN if it wants, even if they grab a TE in the draft…Which I would expect is part of the plan anyway.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai … ‘I’m thinking Tom Brady as OC for the Bucs’.

Gotta think that there’s a better chance Tom Brady becomes owner of the Dolphins than that he becomes our OC. TB12 can pretty much write his own ticket for the rest of his life.

Bucs right now don’t have the $$$ to sign Gronk (or Suh for that matter), so it’s pretty much irrelevant AT THIS POINT that he’s not on our roster. For the two of them, we’ll have to free up at least $15 mil in salary CAP, probably closer to $18 mil. To accomplish that, Bucs would have to restructure at least 2 of the contracts of the remaining Big-3 (Brady, Donovan & LVD). Like bank robber Willie Sutton (Sutton’s Law?) said when asked why he robs banks … ‘Because that’s where the money is’.

  10. John Collins Says:

How about saying to gronk no more open field over the middle. That play he got hurt on was a production play for someone else. Let him make the impossible plays look natural

  11. Stanglassman Says:

I knew it would be a difficult decision for him coming back after that ribs/spline shot he took in the first Rams game. Had that not happened he’d already be signed.

  12. Bird Says:

He ll play. No rush gronk. He will come in right at camp which is what july?

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Gronk will play when we show him the money……and we don’t have or need it now.
My suspicion is that we will try our new kickers & punters……cut ours and give the savings to Gronk…..

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR, I don’t understand the Bucs don’t have to money issue when teams like the Rams are supossingly way over the cap. I’m finding that if a team wants a player they can make it happen.

    Lumbering

  16. Cchead Says:

Florio just said he was told by his impeccable sources, only way Gronk comes back is if Leftwich is replaced.

  17. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

IMHO I believe Gronk will resign to be with TB for at least one more year.

  18. SB~LV Says:

    TE
    Isaiah Likely
    Day 2

  19. Allbuccedup Says:

Sign a low price free agent tight end while there available. The closer we get to the draft all the decent ones will be gone. For christs sake we only have one and hes injury prone. You can’t depend on the draft. Come on Licht don’t get caught will your pants down.

  20. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Ricky Seals Jones was available at 1 mil a year. Surprised Bucs did not sign.

  21. Jordan Says:

I’d be pretty surprised if he doesn’t come back, that video of him in a Tampa barbershop was pretty compelling

Even if he comes back though, I’d still try and draft Jake Ferguson from Wisconsin. Should be there with our 3rd round pick.

I’m not sold on Brate, he seems quite a bit slower lately. I think TE is a bigger needed than many are thinking it is. It is basically a trenches player as well, especially in our offense, the 2nd and 3rd TE mostly just block.

Get me another guard, a interior defensive lineman, Ferguson, and then a high risk high reward CB or edge rusher in the 4th round and I’d be ecstatic.

Would not be totally shocked to see Licht trade away picks from next years draft to get more picks and/or move up in this years draft though. I’d actually consider it likely but we’ll see.

  22. BUCman Says:

Yeah, he’s coming back……just not until OTA’s etc are over.

  23. Stanglassman Says:

Gronk’s been training in Tampa for a year now. I don’t get the take that Gronk just wants to skip OTAs. The guy enjoys OTAs he just had a little adjustment training here for the first time after a long layoff.

  24. Mike arba Says:

I love the thought about the “magic’” that the “Goat” brings,….. basically screw all BS about the awesome that BA brought to the table and all keyboard warriors
That are trying to drown in conspiracy bs, how about LFB! ! And focus on winning!
The truth will always come come out eventually, what makes sense about bad questions and accusations about arguably the one with all the best practices and examples over 20plus yrs and at his age and financial securities?the dude wants it he’s easily arguably best and not in it or the money,,LFG And have a possible shot at another SB!

  25. Bibfortuna Says:

If someone were to shoot the batman signal at OneBuc with #87 in it, he will come. I promise.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Defense Rules

I’m 90% certain Brady will restructure to get Gronk back.

And…well…Licht has been handling it so far, so I suppose he will again.

Honestly, I have barely been paying attention the past couple years. During the losing years my blood pressure shot up so bad it became a medical issue. I had to trim down on things that caused me stress…and the Bucs were right at the top.

I still watch all the games and such…but I try to keep a distance other than that to avoid the stress.

Plus yesterday was a year since I started broadcasting shows…and it is going so well I have not had time for other things.

  27. Michael Says:

Some of you are vastly underestimating the importance and production of Rob Gronkowski… The guy missed five games… Really more like six games, and still ended up with 800 yards… Not only is he a productive tight end… Still at least the top three tied in in this league… Tom Brady needs him for protection

  28. steele Says:

Gronk is the only veteran available who is complete. Look at the free agency list. Mostly receiving TEs who don’t and can’t block. And a lot of nobodies.

What happens if Gronk says no? Crisis? Trade for a veteran would be necessary.

The draft is the same problem. Lots of receiving TEs who can’t block. Drop down to Kemore Gamble or Jake Ferguson in the later rounds, but they are sleepers and not starters for a Tom Brady offense.

  29. BUCman Says:

It’s a coin flip using a two headed coin 🤣 I’m not losing any sleep worried if Gronk will be back or not.

  30. Buccsfan1 Says:

Jason,we need to find the funds to sign this guy ,he is a very, very vital part of what we do and where we want to get back to!!!!!Suh as well and let’s get the honey badger,to solidify our pass defense and make sure we draft 3-4 decent DB’s

  31. Anonymous Says:

    “Buccaneer Bonzai says:

Bingo. Gronk knows that between the Bucs’ remaining cap space and his BFootballFF Tom Brady’s pocketbook, there’s more than enough to meet whatever modest raise Gronk is looking for. Besides, Gronk did publicly state at (the club’s favorite) Danny’s Barber Shop:

““It’s a very good chance… I’ll let him have a little scare, a couple months without me. He just did it to me for a couple months.”

    So, no worries.

But still, no news of Gronk working out? Or has the loveable goofball asked the beat reporters to be in on his prank by keeping mum?

  32. Thadeus Says:

Wait till week 12. Then pad up. Plenty of time to get back to NFL speed, and pick up yet another ring.
