Tom Brady’s Dad Weighs In On The Unretirement

March 15th, 2022

Tom Brady, Sr., opens up.

When Tom Brady’s dad speaks, Joe listens.

The elder Brady is a passionate dad and fan living 30 minutes south of San Francisco, and he’s been known to call in to sports radio shows through the years.

Today, he was a guest of the Greeny podcast.

Some highlights from Tom Brady Sr.’s chat:

*”We’re happy as could be that Tommy has made the decision to come back.”

*”I felt that I was kind of out in the desert for the last 45 days because I had kind of lost all interest in baseball, basketball and especially football.”

*The elder Brady said seasons are “emotionally wrenching” for his son — win or lose — and he seemed irked by ESPN reports in January that said his son would leave the game. “They were announcing his retirement before he even retired. You know, the media made the news. He was not ready to make any decision and didn’t make any decision but [Adam] Schefter and [Jeff] Darlington stated it as fact. You know, he hadn’t made any decision on that.” (Of course, Brady announced he was stepping away from the game a couple days later.)

*”After [retiring,] he had time to reflect with his family, you know, [on] what gives him the greatest joy in his life, and they all agreed that this is the path forward that works best for the Brady family. … He is happy as can be. … It just took a little bit of time to sort this thing out. I mean, he’s kind of in uncharted territory. So if people might seem to think he took a misstep, hey, welcome to our world. Not very many people get to to make this decision at 44 years of age and going on 45.”

*”He just doesn’t play football. He is a football player to the soles of his shoes. He loves every minute of it.” Painted him as a guy “who loves the dirty work” of the game. “Nothing replaces the joy that he gets being on the 100-yard football field.”

*The elder Brady added that his son does not seek his counsel on major decisions. “He’s a smart guy, Greeny, he doesn’t need me anymore.”

*Brady’s dad said he’s now fired up for the NFL schedule release. (Isn’t everybody?)

Tom’s dad seemed more peeved than even Brady was when the media prematurely announced his retirement. Seems like Brady got them back with an announcement that had nothing more than some bread crumbs preceding it. I’m sure he enjoyed that.

This makes me think even more that the whole “BA turmoil” thing was intentional misinformation planted by the Brady camp to teach the headline seeking leakers and leeches a lesson. How sweet. How beautiful.

    Screw Florio!!!

  4. Lesko_Brandon Says:

I’m glad Brady is back and super happy that it is still with the Bucs. A lot of this sports pundits know nothing. A lot of unnamed sources. Kind of like Fake News… hahaha.. GO BUCS!!

  5. Its a Bucs Life Says:

Why pimp Florio’s book, when he is peddling insane theories about Brady going to another team?
First, he’s a friend. Second, Joe has many friends (famous and unfamous) who share wild Bucs theories. Third, Joe is looking forward to reading the book.–Joe

    These media guys are classless

  7. Walter Says:

Florio’s one of the biggest pushers of both the “Brady hates Arians” storyline and the “Brady is trying to force his way to San Fran” story. Lost a lot of respect for him as far as his credibility goes.

I heard someone else mention this but didn’t Brady fire his Chef at the end of the season which led some to believe he was done with football. Then information started supposedly coming out of Brady’s camp that he was retiring and Brady was not confirming it. Then when he did it was on Instagram. He doesn’t want to go out that way. Of course he wants to go out winning a Super Bowl, but Brady’s life is about hard work and everything in his life is rigidly in order. So the haphazard uncoordinated way his retirement was announced could not have sat well with him. He wants to inform the world when he is done. Him and only him, not a bunch of media ambulance chasers.

I thought AB fired his chef and didn’t pay him, never heard Brady fired his nutmash and avocado preparer,

We are truly the suckaneers yall are rejoicing over a 45 year old quarterback who won’t be on the team next year !! Next year at this time the sky will be falling for most of yall on here. And all the talk about Trask being a wasted pick guess what he will be the staring quarterback in 2023 but the only thing about it is if he suck that quarterback draft class is going to be bad . This year was the perfect time to see what he has and if he suck next year quarterback class will be good. But I was worng about Skip Bayless he was right about us being the suckaneers!!

Anyone who uses the word “y’all” or “yall” needs to be ejected from a space capsule into the vacuum. This Oneilthing makes everyone else’s heads hurt and reduces fun factor by several gigawatts.

Goatfarmer. I rather say yall than curse like a lot of yall do on here. I’m from Texas and that’s how we talk out here!! But the facts are the facts some of yall are celebrating a 45 year old quarterback and still thinks he’s going to play beyond 45 which I doubt he plays after this year. He said 45 I thought he was done but know I will bet anything that he ain’t coming back this year!! And you and the rest of the Patriots fans can go back where you come from!!
