The Value Of Chris Godwin

March 3rd, 2022

Wide receiver chatter.

The Bucs already lost an invaluable player when Tom Brady retired (?) last month. So the Bucs will do their best to see to it they don’t lose another next week when they have the opportunity to keep him.

That would be receiver Chris Godwin. The guy does so many things well and is so dependable for quarterbacks that he has risen to damn near the level of Brady as far as a critical cog in the Bucs’ offense.

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians explained earlier this week at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.

“Yeah, I’ve only had [three stellar slot receivers] before – Hines Ward and Larry Fitzgerald – so I don’t really want to lose Chris,” Arians said. “They’re hard, hard to find. Reggie Wayne too, he’s the other one.”

Godwin is such a tough receiver that going over the middle from the slot is no big deal for him. Might be a bigger deal for the safeties and the linebackers that have to guard him.

And Godwin is a crushing blocker, which gets Arians turned on.

Joe isn’t sure about franchising Godwin, but it would not surprise Joe one bit if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht franchised Godwin. Again.

And yeah, that’s expensive (about $20 million). But Godwin is that valuable.

Always hated Meshawn, but he stuck his head in there.
Every fan loves a receive who is a crushing blocker. Thank God for CG is still a Buc. A really great pick by JL. Make is so Jason.

I don’t think he is going anywhere…..He will be tagged if necessary.

    Make it so.

20 million per year is too much for an injury prone receiver who has missed significant time the past three years. Chris is a great player when healthy and fun to watch, but if he’s asking for the moon, he’s got to go. Overpaying for limited players is crazy and being injured three years running is not bad luck, it’s a bad trend.

I’m dying over people talking about Arians still being around. All his sh!t talking and he is gone next year. I hope this may be in Licht’s future plan but Licht hasn’t had much luck with finding coaching.

Spoke like someone who chooses to pretend the past 2 years never happened. A Superbowl, then 13-4 and a Division Title…Don’t know why you hate on him so much, but the man has gotten it done.

What good is Godwin without a QB. Plus doubt he would except the franchise after being injured.

He told everyone Byron was running the offense and play calling the entire time BA was with the Bucs. Then Brady picking up players and calling plays was what happened the last two years. We can’t start with the BS biscuit offense trying to rebuild. I will give you the doubt he was head coach, but Licht and Brady were the ones making decisions on who to sign and making decisions on the field.

List HC between Gruden and Arians. Scary.

Whatever we do we have to keep Godwin & Evans and our O-Line before paying a cent for anyone else. Then work on keeping our defense & don’t go spending a bunch of $ on a qb see what we have in Gabby & Trask. There’s 20 other teams looking for qb’s let them spend that big fee n we’ll add a third qb later but only if the two we have don’t workout. That also give us the chance to get Brady back.
