Report: RoJo Heads To Kansas City

March 23rd, 2022

The Chiefs lost Pro Bowl receiver Tyreek Hill today, but they could be picking up Bucs running back Ronald Jones.

Reliable Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network is reporting that RoJo is on a free agent visit to Kansas City, where running back Darrel Williams is a free agent and Clyde Edwards-Helaire doesn’t scare anyone when he takes a handoff.

The RoJo interest especially interests Joe since Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is a great friend of former Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter, the guy who had a hand in making RoJo a Tampa Bay second-round pick in 2018. Koetter didn’t develop RoJo, but he did like his talent and Joe suspects Reid sought Koetter’s opinion. Reid also worked with Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht in Philadelphia and probably asked him about RoJo, too.

Also, who could forget the famous NFL Films scene of Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu talking on the Super Bowl sidelines about how RoJo was bringing a ton of juice. He compared RoJo to Walter Payton!

Joe is not surprised that a 1a kind of running back like RoJo is in demand during the second wave of free agency.

Joe wishes RoJo well (and hopes he lands in the AFC).

Interesting. Would seem to be a good fit there.

  2. HC Grover Says:

    ROJO v VV in Munich

  3. Coburn Says:

Yeah feel like he could do well there. It’s too bad. I remember him having some games where it looked like he had turned the corner. Even remember a good game where he caught a sideline pass, quickly got up field and hurdled a guy

  4. Listen Linda! Says:

    Those hands though.

  5. RottenAmiigo94 Says:

Patrick’s Mahomes wife brother and Rojo. That would make one hell of a sitcom

  6. TDTB2022 Says:

I wish him well too. We need to draft a running back.
    LFG!!!!!!!!!

  7. SB~LV Says:

    Whatevahhh
He’ll get a shot, he had several big runs called back for penalties
    He runs hard
His balance is not good for a RB
    I wish him well

  8. godlovesbucs Says:

I think he will do well there. Big knock on CEH is that he cannot run between the tackles. He is the opposite of Rojo. Them combined may be a decent setup.

  9. DEEEMO Says:

Good luck ROJO. Never really fit in with the Arians offence…Great runner but suspect blocking skills and not much of a threat in the short passing game. Wish him well…

  10. Casual Observer Says:

He has to go somewhere; KC is fine. Glad we have Lenny.

  11. RPK Says:

    ROJO is trash

I don’t think Brady liked him. I remember Brady yelling at ROJO after he stepped out of bounds instead of picking up a first. He was soft IMO but Arians liked him.

Remember when ROJO got stuffed on the 1 in the SUPER BOWL? NOT CLUTCH! Lenny dodged a defender against the Rams to pick up a TD on 4th and 1 from the 9.

    BYE ROJO!!!!

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

NBA……no, not National Basketball Assn……”not Brady approved”

    Good luck Rojo……

  13. unbelievable Says:

I think this could be a great fit for them… if he can actually get on the field.

  14. Bird Says:

    Good move by chiefs

    Rojo struggled picking up blitz
Not as big a deal w mahommes cause he’s houdini and can outrun 99.9 % of guys on defense blitzing.

    Just glad cheetah is gone
No question mahommes is a stud. But no one can stretch a field like cheetah. I mean you almost need a db And both safeties aware of cheetahs location on field

Kelce has benefited so much from getting the underneath. Same as other receivers there. Glad it happened to a super bowl favorite

  15. tampabayallday Says:

Buffalo would’ve been better for him

  16. Thomas Edrington Says:

Roberto Duran: Hands Of Stone…..that’s RoJo

  17. Cobraboy Says:

    Jones: 4.48 40, 6-flat brain.

  18. Oneilbuc Says:

Yall hate on every former bucs player that leaves and go to another team. I wish him nothing but the best yall need to stop haten on Rojo . But yall was all in love with Fitzpatrick and hope he plays well when he left lol 😆 😂 😅!! Glad to see Rojo get another chance and he’s probably going to do a whole lot better because he’s going to a better coach !!

  19. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Alot of commenters are quick to send Rojo packing. I’ve been a Bucs fan long enough to witness the long line of prolific runners for this team. Snoop Dog McPlaybook lol, Mike James, Dare, Joey Iosefa, Bobby Rainey, Charles Simms. Jeff Demps lol. (Someone thought it was a good idea to trade Lagarette Blount for him)…smh..Rojo is probably top 3 in the last 10 or 15 years guys. This is the Bucs we’re talking about. Not exactly a rushing Juggernaut.

  20. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Oneilbuc, no reason to introduce the race card here.

  21. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

    I hear ya, Oneilbuc.

I wish him well too and appreciate his blood & sweat as a BUC.

  22. geno711 Says:

    @Oneilbuc.

Did you just read the sampling of comments? There were a lot of good for him comments and wish him well comments.

Your prognostications have just been the absolute worst on the site.
Stop hating on Arians. He has been an excellent coach for the Bucs and is certainly a big part of the reason we have a Super Bowl title.

  23. Bucs Guy Says:

Hated the pic in 2018 as all of his big games were against Tier 2 schools. He has to be considered as a bust for a 2nd rd pic during his time with the Bucs.

  24. Sauron's eye Says:

Rojo is a good 2 down back. I wish him well.

  25. Eddie Marz Says:

Good luck RoJo. Hope you find success there. 👍🙏

  26. Drew Says:

Rojo has the speed; he just didn’t have the hands. Wasn’t there a few reports were he was beating himself over plays psyching himself out?

  27. Brandon Says:

Andy Reid is a great offensive mind and evaluator of talent… and when he makes Rojo look like the stud he is, all you ignoramuses will be crying about how we let a great RB get away. Rojo is a top 5 talent RB. No question.

  28. SlyPirate Says:

IF (a big “IF”) Rojo has success anywhere in the NFL, it’s in Andy’s system. Good signing by Rojo. Hopefully he meets the Wizard and gets a heart in the offseason.

  29. Brandon Says:

Some of the ignorant comments on here… Rojo didn’t have balance (clown comment) and I suppose Fournette does? Fournette has broken about 10 tackles in his Buc career. Rojo has done that many in one run multiple times.

  30. Tony Says:

I never wanted the dude when he was coming out so I won’t be heartbroken if he goes.

  31. ClwJB Says:

Problem has always been mental with him, physical talent A- emotional intelligence C-

Poor at pass blocking, blitz recognition – unaware in space

Drops way too many easy throws, lacks concentration

Great runner, the rest is below average

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t believe Rojo has any ‘mental’ issues and he catches a lot better than people seem to claim. How many truly dropped passes has he had in the past couple years?

And he certainly had his moments running.

He’s not a name or a redemption story, and I think that has held coaches back from using him effectively.

From what I recall, just about every time he was called on to make a play, he made the play.

It’s like Blount a few years back…who was never used right here, went elsewhere and exploded…won superbowls.

Rojo has not been given the chance to prove himself.

  33. Mort Says:

Good riddance. His attitude is garbage and it’s his career limiting attribute. Oh, and dude simply sucks at pass pro and catching the ball.

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m like Joe I wish ROJO well. He had bad hands and couldn’t block but he had speed and some moves.

This could be one of those moves that is as good for ROJO as it is for KC. He may really benefit from a change of scenery. It seems he never escaped his first impressions here even in his own head that he can’t catch a football and can’t pick up a blitz. As has been pointed out Mahomes doesn’t need the protection of a Brady and perhaps ROJO can work on his hands this off season.

ROJO is a such a superior athlete to me in EVERY way that I just can’t understand WTF is hard about catching a football. I’m not talking about possession receivers like ME or CG who work against tough DB’s and LB’s but pulling in a gentle swing pass or outlet when wide open…seriously I KNOW this blog if full of guys who can catch a football. Not talking about in the NFL or against great D…simply talking about the fundamental act of feeling a ball into your hands. It’s NOT that hard to catch a football in the open.

  35. Buczilla Says:

Licht is one of the best gm’s in the league, but he sucks at drafting running backs and Rojo is further proof of that. At his best, Rojo was a good runner and a total disaster blocking and catching. Towards the end he seemed to lose his nerve and he was a head case from day one. I have nothing personal against the kid, but I’m glad he’s gone. Adios mf!

  36. Cleanhouse Says:

I’d like to have RoJo back

  37. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

whatcha all gonna say if he has 200 more yards than playoff lenny next year. now at least we didn’t have to worry about jameis doing well he flubbed that up.

  38. Wesley Says:

Can’t catch this doesn’t make sense in a Mahomes offense

  39. SKBucsFan Says:

He will Jerome a bigger part of their offense now that Hill has been traded. I don’t like the Chiefs but I wish him well. 9

  40. Another j Says:

I’ve seen better pass protection out of rookie running backs, I think we could replace Rojo via the draft.

  41. Cobraboy Says:

Jones is the better runner, but Fournette is by far the better back.

  42. GenocideD Says:

    Better learn to catch.

  43. RandsABucFan Says:

I’m just a little perplexed why Licht didn’t dangle him as trade bait when he was under contract. Now we get nothing, the same goes for OJ

  44. Reedtodded Says:

😅😅 good luck with Mr. Glass Lenny Fournette.

  45. Eric b Says:

Sorry but the guy couldnt catch a ball being wide open, and he would FUMBLE!!! And to whoever said a top 5 rb??? Are you smoking crack??? Lenny is a clutch im glad we singed him back, and one more good rb would be nice!

  46. steele Says:

RoJo is the best back this team had. Yes, better than Lenny. Unfortunately, this coaching staff never used him properly, never figured out how to maximize his strengths and fix what flaws he had. The fumbling and pass catching issues were fixable (Todd McNair) and it did not help that they kept yanking him around.

I fear RoJo will be an absolute beast in KC. Reid is going to make him great, He will feel secure in his role, and he will be surrounded by talent.

  47. steele Says:

Lenny is a happy-footed finesse non-power back who falls easily. Vaughn has the same fumble and pass catching issues as RoJo but gets more of a free pass.

So what great and consistent do-it-all running back is on this roster right now? Isn’t one. Dollars went to Lenny, but if they want a running game that works, they still need a consistent and explosive bell cow feature back, even if it’s in a committee. Melvin Gordon/Rashaad Penny/Marlon Mack. Breece Hall/Kenneth Walker/Zamir White/Dameon Pierce/Isiah Spiller.

  48. adam from ny Says:

anyone gonna take a guess at what his contract details are….???

    the years signed…and the amount…

hard to figure out with the running back market…

    maybe 3 years 12 or 13 mil…….4 years 15 mil…???

i don’t think rojo would want 4 years…he prolly wants 2 years to hopefully prove himself then sign a last big contract…

could be like 2 years 8 to 9 mil

  49. adam from ny Says:

    what if:

rojo got close to what lenny got…

    like 3 years 18 mil

  50. bucschamp Says:

chiefs planet fans don’t want him there

  51. Jmarkbuc Says:

    What Buczilla said.

  52. Bucsfanman Says:

What if? What if?…..Who cares?! Go look at his stats for the last four years. His “production” is EASILY replaceable.

Buc fans are so scared to let go.

I wish him well as long as it’s not against our beloved Bucs!
