“It Doesn’t Seem As Daunting”

March 31st, 2022

Diana Russini talked to Todd Bowles this morning.

NFL insider Diana Russini was on ESPN Radio this morning sharing parts of her moments-ago telephone chat with new Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles.

Bowles has an introductory news conference at 1 p.m., but he took Russini’s call.

Russini talked about how Bowles’ had a 24-40 record while leading the New York Jets (2015-2018) and she said Bowles reflected on his struggles and how much he learned about himself through the process.

“He said very openly that he would not be the coach he is now [without] that experience in New York. And this transition into a head coach again here, it doesn’t seem as daunting,” Russini said. “Especially when you were with the Jets — to go from the Jets to Tom Brady being your quarterback.”

Yes, Bowles has been gift-wrapped a perfect situation. The roster is strong and experience, and he’s got a top-flight offensive coordinator and the greatest quarterback in history.

Joe subscribes to what former Bucs and Jets receiver Keyshawn Johnson said later in the same broadcast.

“He can’t possibly screw it up. If he screws it up then that’s because he can’t coach,” Johnson said of Bowles. “Because everything is set up for success and not for failure.”

What VA did, is actually fantastic. Think about it. Most coaches step away when the organization, the team etc. are in ruins and need to completely rebuild. BA did the opposite for his players and staff.

  2. Bojim Says:

    Bingo.

Good point David. See: Sean Payton

I haven’t seen such a toothy smile since watching the movie Alien.

Daunting is taking over the Bucs with “America’s Quarterback” after the lost decade at the Den of Depression…..

Arians was pretty much semi retired anyway, so I doubt we will see much, if any change.

    Agree

  8. ModHairKen Says:

This was a perfectly timed transition.

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

Apparently he hasn’t learned enough by his play calling in the Rams playoff game.

I can’t find an answer on our Comp picks for the Bowles hire..

I know if we lose a minority coordinator to another team who hires them as a head coach…..we receiver 2 3rd round picks.

But….if we lose a coordinator to our own team with an internal promotion….do we still receive the picks…

    Anybody know?

Maybe …. his cancer is back??? It can come back!!

Keep being the wet blanket, Listnfrmafar.

If you factor in 8 of those losses being on the wrong side of Brady, his record may have looked closer to 32-32 with Brady under center for him lol then again, I don’t think the Great Bill Bellicheat coulda done a awhole lot better with the Jets…

  14. JohnBucsFan Says:

Our schedule is still daunting imo but I like the hire

  15. Barbosa Says:

Shiver me Timbers! The lass certainly stands “at attention”! What say you, Joes?

  16. Bucsfan4ever Says:

The schedule is sorta tough with the AFC West, but the Chefs and Seahawks are in for down years
NFC? Just gotta beat the Rams.

  17. Bucsfan4ever Says:

Those masts are set to full sail.

  18. Buccos Says:

It’s not like BA did all of this for Bowles. Bowles did a lot of it for himself. He is the one who built this defense. He isn’t taking over someone else’s team. This is already his team. The defensive players would take a bullet for this man already. We don’t win the Super Bowl without that suffocating defense.

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

Suffering, this question was asked in a earlier post by I believe RPK@. What has the team really lost by BA quitting on this team? (I added the quitting part for all those hypocrites that shat on AB & Brady when they left. You know who you are).

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

Look at it this way, one less coach looking for a job during the playoffs.

  21. PassingThru Says:

Tampabaybucfan, it is my understanding that compensatory picks are only awarded when you snatch a minority coach (or GM) from another franchise.
