If You Have A Quarterback, The Future Is Now

March 10th, 2022

Trendsetters.

It seems the Bucs and the Rams have set a trend. And the Broncos and the Packers are trying to follow it.

The Broncos and the Packers got big-time quarterbacks this week. Russell Wilson was traded to Denver and drama queen/choke artist Aaron Rodgers returned to Green Bay. Both teams have weapons and a nice defense.

Albert Breer of SI.com says this is what the Bucs did previously, and Joe believes the Rams are another team that may have set a new trend. Breer added if you have a top-shelf quarterback, kicking the salary cap can down the road is very much worth it.

It’s not dissimilar to how the Buccaneers built around Tom Brady, with voidable years tacked onto veterans’ contracts providing for space now and creating dead cap later. As I said the last couple of years with Tampa, if you’ve got a quarterback like that, it’s worth doing it to chase championships.

So that brings us to the Bucs. The Bucs are looking at either making a trade or a whole lotta slop in free agency. Reminder: Blaine Gabbert is a free agent.

Of course, a guy like Deshaun Watson, now that is a quarterback talent worth kicking the can down the road for getting into salary cap hell because of it.

Watson will cost Bucs lots if draft picks and he’ll be suspended for a while. Not to mention the bad PR. The only QB worth chasing is Carr.

  2. Tye Says:

Yes! Carr is the only one worth taking a chance on… Maybe Cousins if he is less expensive…

  3. westernbuc Says:

I fully support trading for Watson if we’ve been demoted to the prison league.

  4. Buc92’ Says:

The deal is already done for Watson , great times ahead stay tuned

    GoBucs!

  5. catcard202 Says:

There should be some clarity on Watson’s criminal exposure, potentially as soon as this weekend…So, if there is a backroom deal with HOU already done…Would expect some leaks to be floated soon there after…I guess time will tell.

  6. Bird Says:

Nah. The super bowl isnt worth it according to lamarcus

We should have built a dynasty not gone for a super bowl
Going all-in on brady and “being one and done” was a mistake

Yah. Thats how terrible our fan base is. Thats really how some peeps think
He is same person who claimed to be a gladiator and literally enjoyed “his qb” who threw for a lot of yards and interceptions. Yes because turning the ball over is entertaining

    😂

  7. Hodad Says:

Is he really worth it Joe? Aside from his legal issues, and character, this is a guy who quit on his team. He didn’t like what was going on in Houston, and instead of being a leader, someone who could turn the franchise around, instead walked away. Let’s say we sell the farm for this guy, and he doesn’t like what’s going on here, and quits on us? Character matters. This guy has shown what kind of character he has. He’s a quitter, and a sex prev. I’d really rather cheer for Gabbert, and Trask. Men you can at least be proud of. Be hard for me to get my two grand daughters cheering for this scum.

So, Bucs92, are you just going to disappear when the deal doesn’t happen or will you own up to your nonsense?

  9. Allbuccedup Says:

You do not want to bring the Watson circus here. Like our two fearless says whats behind door #2. Probably more lawsuits, it will never end. What ever team trades for him the GM will be fired within two years. You just can’t mortgage your franchise on an individual that has these type of issues.

  10. Ed Says:

I just don’t see the Bucs being a choice for Watson nor is he going to be cheap enough for the Bucs. Never say never, it just doesn’t appear the Bucs are in a position of having the chips to play for a top tier quarterback.

  11. doolnutts Says:

Why do you guys think Carr is available? He isn’t the head case some of these others are and he produces. Raiders would be nuts to trade him. The only reason why Wilson was traded is Seattle is rebuilding which is why they also why they cut Wagner.

The only good QB actually available is Watson and he is available because he is a head case.

  12. Alexander Nascimento Says:

I understand all that but the Saints have done that for years before Brees retired and they’ve not reached the Super Bowl.

The are no garanties in football and I always remember what TB12 said, you have to get a little luck on your side to get the Lombardi

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I read a story that Phillip Rivers may be able to come out of retirement! What a coup that would be, to get Rivers!
IMHO, that would be a great move by us!

  14. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Watson cap hit for 2022 is 40,400,000. Unless he was given a brand new massive deal day one his cap hit will remain 40,400,000.

Marpet/Brady’s cap relief does not occur until June 2 and will be like 25,000,000 at best.

Houston wants him traded before the draft and they want picks for 2022 like the first and second, and the first and second in 2023.

So I assume players will be sent too like Shaq and Donovan as their cap hit is 40,000,000 which would allow Watson cap to fit before the draft.

  15. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Alternatively you trade Brady’s cap hit now moving the full 25,000,000 now and your trade just Shaq and rework Chris now to drop his cap hit to 10,000,000 in 2022, and have it rise in 2023 to 18,000,000

  16. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Either way there is no possible way the team fits 40,400,000 plus Brady Marpet Chris Donovan and Shaq and the draft picks all before June 2. So players will have to be traded at the same time or right after.

  17. New England Patriots Fan Says:

And Watson will be suspended no matter the indictment hearing outcome. He also has committed to pleading the 5th, so unless the cross testimony on the 8 accusers totally embarrasses the women and make their entire story seem like a complete lie in front of the grand jury, then the civil case will have to be settled after and he will be suspended for minimum half a season.

Not saying long term this doesn’t benefit Tampa but 2022 will be a wash year, and the starting 22 roster will be 50% gone to FA and trades as the cost of carrying the 40m cap hit and Shaq, Donovan, Lavonte, Evans and Chris become extremely expensive without new deals or trades.
