Crediting The Sales Job; Still Blaming Coaching

March 21st, 2022

“I’m not above punching someone, Pete.”

The big-name dudes who have been all wrong about Tom Brady continue to cling to their blown up stories about him having an issue with the Bucs.

The way it’s going, Tampa Bay will open this season 5-1 and they’ll continue to say Brady is looking for a way out of his contract.

Noted author and longtime Patriots insider Seth Wickersham works for BSPN when he’s not writing books about the Patriots dynasty. He was one the guys who spoke of anti-Bucs chatter from “Brady’s camp,” he was chirping in January about how Brady didn’t like the quality of coaching in Tampa.

Per Wickersham, Brady likes Bucco Bruce Arians and knows he’s a very good coach but saw the Bucs operation as a downgrade to the Patriots way and brand of football.

Last week on ESPN’s radio affiliate in New York, Wickersham was talking about how the Bucs “screwed up a blitz with 27 seconds left” against the Rams and that was it for Brady. And he went on to praise Bucs general manager Jason Licht and Arians for the job they did selling Brady on the value of a return to Tampa and Wickersham is convinced that’s the big Brady story now.

Joe remains flabbergasted by all the blubbering about Brady not liking Arians and not believing in Licht being able to build the Super Bowl-caliber roster. He’s still here and the team is stacked. Isn’t that enough to admit a media defeat?

The Bucs have won 22 of their last 27 games including a Super Bowl. Brady is not stupid, and the numbers don’t lie.

Was Brady pissed about the Bucs’ coaching/on-field choke job to conclude the Rams game? Who wasn’t? But Brady quitting because of it is just silly talk.

To be fair, it was an absolutely terrible, terrible play call and execution.

I will laugh my ass off if Brady signs a contract extension and then films a very special episode of Tommy and Gronky with special guest Brucey.

  7. Listnfrmafar Says:

Didn’t it say in your post Joe, he like Arians, he just didn’t like the culture? Or last of. That makes sense, “Now is the time for football. Now is NOT the time to go to the movies!” Brady was pissed many including the coaches were not taking the game as seriously as he was. Makes perfect sense.

I’m sure Brady WAS irritated with the lack of discipline and urgency from players and coaches. And I’m sure Brady thought (at least on occasion) that Arians was being too lax. But Brady already knows for a fact that he can win a Superbowl with Arians.so, I don’t think these reporters writing up articles about discontent between Brady & Arians are wrong, just that they blew the whole thing cartoonishly out of proportion (making a mountain out of a molehill, as they say). I imagine that prior to returning, Brady got a firm commitment from Arians and key cogs in the Bucs machine that playtime was over and that it was time to get to work. And let’s hope that’s the case, because we all witnessed how [expletive] sloppy the Bucs were on both sides of the ball for most of last season.

  12. gotbbucs Says:

After 22 years in the NFL they believe that one bad defensive play chased him out of the league? Ok. The most mentally strong player possibly in NFL history quit because of a bad last play to the season.
He’s had 15 NFL seasons where the last play of the last game wasn’t what he wanted it to be. Talking heads need to talk, that’s their job. It’s the publics job to either ignore or call bullshiit.
Coaches get frustrated with players, players get frustrated with coaches. Such is life.

  13. Posey99 Says:

Those jokes writing drama-click bait- columns are getting paid too. Writing books, “breaking news” name recognition, it’s all half lies, just like other media. People desperate to make a name for themselves or get a new big contract/ salary from the network they are working for. Nobody dislikes BA accept for the dummy’s that read that drama garbage and take it as gospel.

  14. Will Says:

I’ve gotta say I remember when coaches were taking interviews and Brady made the statement about it’s time for football not going to the movies and other things. I viewed that as a direct shot at everyone. I know BA believes his coaches should be at home by a certain time each night and have family time. Brady seems to believe that when you hit the playoffs it’s time to turn things up and he does just that. That’s why he’s the GOAT. The man kicks his family out of the house while he prepares for the Superbowl. I’m sure he misses some of The Patriot Way in how the coaches and players prepared when they hit the playoffs.

  15. Don-RyJo(e) Says:

  16. Infomeplease Says:

Hey no fan here liked the results of the all out blitz, but don’t necessarily blame Todd Bowles for that. Coaches make the play call.. players then execute the call. Several of the players admitted that they did not know the play call. On field Communication, or lack there of, caused lack of execution. To win plays you must execute them. To win games you must win plays when the game is on the line! I never hear anyone here throw some blame to Devin White!! Isn’t part of his job, to receive the play call and forward the call to the rest of the defense? Just sayin’

Joe this isn’t directed towards you, but rather the Todd Bowles haters out there. Remember the Super Bowl win over KC, Todd Bowles called the plays during that game too!! And if I remember correctly, that season, Patrick Mahomes was very successful against blitz’s.

  17. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I just read a story today where Arians was asked directly, is or was there a problem between Brady and Arians, and he did not deny it!
However, he was quick to add that there is always healthy disagreement between coaches and players on every team he has been on.
The problem, if any, between Arians and Brady could not have been that bad, because Brady has come back.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

Which game was a great game last year?

Most every game we started slow as molasses, weren’t prepared ( at least not to TB12 standards) and had to come back to win.

It’s not hard to believe that coaches and players weren’t matching TB’s intensity, especially coming off a SB win.. no matter how many times Tom tried to tell them.

Any comments on the story that Brady actually wanted to go to Miami..but Flores messed that up for him?

  19. SB Says:

I find it ‘flattering’ that someone would stick to this bullcockamamy theory

  20. Anonymous Says:

If Brady was pissed about the quality of the Bucs organization after winning a Super Bowl in their home stadium and following that up with the best season in their history and being mere seconds away from returning to the Super Bowl, imagine how pissed Patriots players must be with that dumpster fire organization that has yet to sniff the playoffs without Brady. There is a reason List the guy who is always wrong, and all the other Pats fans are here…. Their home team is irrelevant and have no chance of even winning their Division much less the AFC or a Super Bowl.

  25. Buc4evr Says:

I don’t care what bspn says about Brady’s relationship with Arians. That Brady is back speaks volumes about how wrong they are. What I am more concerned about is when will we get our FA veterans signed.

  26. AB Says:

Multiple things can be true at the same time…

    – the operation IS a downgrade from the patriots (just look over the last 20 years)

    – there CAN be tension between TB and BA

    – Brady CAN want the ability to move on from the Bucs this year (it didn’t work out that way) and/or after this year

    – the Bucs ARE still likely his best chance to win another SB this year

    – TB CAN still like the roster, the staff, and the organization overall

    – TB COULD have been thinking to himself ‘wtf, this would have never happened in NE’ while watching the end of the season last year

    – TB IS probably pissed that BA mishandled the AB situation at the Jets and thinks they maybe would have secured another SB if he was on the roster in the playoffs

Why?Because you’re a jackwagon Patriots fan trapped on a Bucs fan site.

  29. sasquatch Says:

NFL talkers are paid to have something to talk about regarding the NFL. What’s better for the NFL speculation industrial complex than drama around the greatest QB ever? Nothing. It doesn’t even matter if it’s true. The whole point is wild-ass speculation.

  30. Mikejp Says:

The coaching staff of the Niners is worse. Even Belichick sucked in the SB with the Eagles. Thus, if BA and the Glazers can stop Todd doing the blitz, the Bucs will have a good chance .

  31. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Worst thing you could do is finally retire for family reasons after 22y and not even last a month and return to NFL. The family Giselle forced retirement story is complete bunk on Brady’s part.

Giselle should be divorcing Tom if he finally committed to retiring while healthy rich and doing it all in NFL to return to football in a month even suggesting he wasn’t gone 3 days later, that’s would be so insulting to his family and her.

That family clearly was an excuse, the truth is clear Tom was angry how the season ended and saw business and career opportunities in Miami with Sean, or 49ers.

Both options completely blew up in the off season partly because Tampa was unwilling to trade or release Tom. so he went to Glazers they said the team is yours now control wise and we will reup let’s win a SB.

Has everyone noticed how every signing is connected to Tom or Tom called or former Patriots or a Tom Tampa guy he begged them to return.

He even is controlling the contract of Gronk at this point making him wait to sign when cap is better and rejecting non Tampa suitors.

If Team wins or makes a SB to me it would be the single greatest season of a player in NFL as at this point Tom is co Gm, Co Coach, play caller, recruiter, draft room final say, and capologist. Plus he is the QB, face of team, his company runs the TB12 physio in house, he distributes the touches to keep players happy and bonuses.

Now if it all blows up BA and everyone will bury Tom as they will use him as the example of the QB whom went to far and tried to run a team. I wouldn’t be surprised seeing Tom even getting involved with defence now haha.

If he wins or at least gets to a SB it will be the greatest season for a guy making 10m to elevate the an entire team and do 10 jobs for one player.

  32. BradyBucs Says:

You can’t blame Brady for probably being INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED at the final choke job against the Rams after all the effort and amazing comeback.

That Rams comeback was only further cementing his “fairytale” legacy. Anyone watching that game knew it, even if Brady wasn’t deserving of most of the credit.

For Bowles to call such a dumb play at that point in the game had to STING with Brady like it did with all of us. You can’t blame him for wanting to probably blow off some steam with a “retirement” an reassess everything.

  33. TJ Says:

Well I think I getting closure on that Rams game. Let’s face it, the Rams owned us that entire game. Our defense was struggling ALL YEAR for a number of reasons. With that potent Rams offense and our porous defense, that is EXACTLY the reason why Bowles should of NOT called that blitz. We had 2nd and 3rd teamers on the field and it wasn’t last years defense. It was TERRIBLE, communication AND execution but the bottom line it was a call Bowles probably would like to forget. Brady, with one of his greatest Quarters, and he has had a ton of them, positioned us to go into OT with a coin flip basically determining the winner of the game. Last team with the ball wins scenario. The lack of judgement on the play call, yes execution but besides the point, hurt us. I would almost compare it to Pete Carrol NON hand off to Marshawn Lynch in the Seachickens/Patriots SB. That bad of playcalling. Oh well, that is great fuel for this year and I would be SHOCKED if there isn’t a rematch next year. I like the revenge angle with Brady and a NEW and improved Defense. Go Bucs.

  34. TJ Says:

Oh and just to be clear. I respect and appreciate Todd Bowles, but that entire last year was one he admittingly would probably like to forget. The Bucs Defense didn’t overcome the adversaties, injuries, lack of depth etc. like the offense did. New Year and whole new slate. I like our chances.

  35. SPARKY Says:

Wow guys, don’t ever believe a story unless there is a personal quote from the guy they are taking about. The thing about Brady and Jimmy G was b.s. Brady and Kraft and Bill all have said that Tom never pressure them to trade Jimmy. But yet to this day the media says it happened. Same way with Tom and BA. Their are only two people who know. And it ain’t no reporters.

  36. August 1976 BUC Says:

Some posters here speak like you have actually spoken to Brady. And the media led narrative is based on #1 Employment income, and pride. #2 The media earns their living talking, and to admit that they were singing a bunch of BS hurts the pride, and could effect future earnings. Supposed insiders were actually outsiders like most people on the planet concerning Brady, but hey throw crap against the wall and see if it sticks, because it is how we make a living.

For so long the media sang the praises of the Bucs about Brady, and how Green Bay was doing the opposite with Rodhers. But suddenly after the loss, all this made up crap comes out, completely opposite narrative comes out. How bad BA runs the Team, and 1000 other things are so wrong with the Bucs organization. Every media cochroach came out spouting their preferred version of the state of the Bucs. All you JBF Bucs insiders ( not the Joes) but posters, when is the last time you actually spoke to Tom Brady about all these things you have posted? Oh yeah, I hear the crickets now. So wether it is a super mushy love affair between BA and Tom, most likely not, but in reality how many of you have a “perfect relationship” with your employees, or your co-workers? I doubt many can say yes in reality. We are talking about ulta competetive athletes and coaches. In the words of Rocky to his son, ” life is not all a bunch of sunshine and roses” I mean get real. So a story could be made from every team in the NFL and most pro sports teams, be it NBA, or MLB or NHL. The bottom line is as long as Brady is there, they will excel, and maybe hoist the Lombardi again, no matter how much all the chatter boxes want to sing and get paid for on BSPN or any other media outlet. So again “JBF insiders posters” when is the last time you actually spoke to Brady, yeah thats right just ” more crickets singing again” lol

    @BradyBucs

Rodney Harrison said that the worse loss of his, and TB12 agreed with him, career was losing the Super Bowl to the Giants that ended their perfect season.

He said that one upsets them all the most.

Hard to imagine watching Eli Manning drive his team to the game winning Super Bowl TD after you threw the go ahead TD with 2 minutes left in the game doesn’t still bother TB12.

The Pats were 2 minutes away from making history and joining only the Dolphins with a perfect season.

I guarantee you the loss to the Giants in the Super Bowl during that undefeated season disturbs TB12 way more than last year’s Divisional Round Playoff loss.

Everybody acts like if we beat the Rams that we are automatically Super Bowl Champions.

The 49ers were a very good football team last year and they could have beaten the Bucs last year if we matched up against them in the NFC Championship Game.

  40. SPARKY Says:

You want to see how bad the press, media, and reporters are, watch U Tube for a hour. Then a week later go back and compare what they said to what really happened. They are 90% wrong. Brady said 90% what he tells the press is b.s., 90% is believed by us idiots.

  41. New England Patriots Fan Says:

No way Brady allows Jimmy G to beat him at home in a playoff game running the ball against a top run defence. It was a layup after the Rams and Cinci had no chance v Tampa in 2021 with that line.

The AB cut and Godwin injury ended the season lesson for 2022 have 4 weapons and a RB, and keep old vets on speed dial for playoffs.

  42. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Just looking at PFF best available remaining free agents all players not signed based on their 2021 grade.

No10 ahead of all remaining WR a except Odell.

    WR Antonio Brown
Brown works in any scheme and in any position. He would be best suited to a scheme that taps into that versatility and already moves their receivers around and interchanges roles

PFF actually considers his play for 2021 more valuable than Gronk on their list a few spots later.

Guy was crazy but the loss of production was huge when he was cut a week before playoff run.

No it actually makes sense to have enough coaches for the back ups get reps that other teams do not do, because they do not have the coaches to do the reps with everyone.
With all the shots taken by some at BA, this is something you would think every team would be doing. It makes your team better, that is for sure. So many players end up standing around and not doing reps, just does not make sense to waste the time with the back up players that are a moment away from playing because of sudden injury. This makes your team a lot more prepared to play well and consistent.

  45. PassingThru Says:

Wickersham is quite credible though some folks love to nitpick (I’ve been in the industry, no journalist gets any story 100% right). It was upsetting to New England fans who didn’t believe that there was tension in between Brady and Belichick, but I heard from someone credible in the org that storm clouds had gathered. Nevertheless, fans leaped on Wickersham and claimed everything was fine (far from it) and that Robert Kraft was the one who wanted him traded (the opposite was true, Kraft told Bill to make nice to Tom).

That blitz with about 30 seconds left in the game was a cosmic act of stupidity. There’s no sugar-coating it. Even the more objective fans saw right through it, and of course, Brady knows more football than all of us put together. If we knew it was stupid, you can bet Tommy Boy knew it too.

  46. Jmarkbuc Says:

    TJ

    Whew…

We don’t have first string players on D at the moment. Not enough anyway. A multitude of coaches and TB12 is having extra Friday sessions for the run game? tells me these coaches ain’t getting it done. The team looking totally unprepared every week last year speaks to that as well. Why you think TB12 seemed so agitated from camp cupcake forward?

I appreciate BAs commitment to diversity, his loyalty to those he came up with, and his football acumen. What I don’t get is how a guy who idolizes Bear Bryant, notorious for being a hard ass, doesn’t dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s . Obviously in todays game you can’t drive players as hard physically, but teams can work smarter not harder. Case in point, when we scored tying TD in Rams game, the smart move would have been to line up to go for two. Might have cost the Rams a TO. Think TB13 didn’t know that? BA and BL didn’t? Add in Bowles boneheaded call. TB12 be like WTAF?

  47. Buczilla Says:

The vast majority of sports media up north is dominated by bloated headed buffoons who feel that anything below the Mason Dixon line is beneath their notice. Their heads are so far up their a$$es that they would never dare to imagine that they might have erred. Plus it’s pretty damn obvious that this Wickersham dude is a patriots homer that still can’t get over the fact that Brady dumped him and the rest of New England for us. Credibility in any form of media today is as rare as unicorns and Seth is another perfect example. Thank goodness for Joebucs.

  48. Blu Says:

I agree with all the points AB made. Coaching is definitely a downgrade but the less grindy nature probably offsets that for Tom. Do believe he definitely was upset with that last call their is no justifying it not matter what some of these fools are saying. It shouldnt have even been called in the first place and then their would have been no communication issues. Doubt he would still try to go to the 49ers after they didnt want him twice and since the NFC is basically a 3 team race he knows he definitely has a good shot at number 8 this year.

QB getting the crap bear out of you snd somehow the team pulls to a tie at the end of regulation, only to blow or on the worst defensive call imaginable. What normal, extremely competitive person wouldn’t be furious? Multiple former players and coaches called out Bowles for that stupid play call, including Sapp and Dungy. Bowles put an upturned take on the field in front of his defense and they stepped on it.
