Bruce Arians Should Have One Priority: Develop Kyle Trask

March 31st, 2022

Yes, Bucco Bruce Arians is no longer head coach and is now the Bucs’ “senior consultant for football.”

Joe hopes that translates in the real world as “young-quarterback czar.”

F the corporate title and the front office nonsense for Arians. If he cares deeply about the team and the Bucs’ hierarchy is focused on being a lasting contender, then Arians’ time at One Buc Palace should be devoted to developing second-year quarterback Kyle Trask.

Every breathing football fan knows how critical the quarterback position is. And Arians is the quarterback whisperer who knows everything about mentoring and directing a young QB.

Trask is his hand-selected draft pick. Tom Brady turns 45 in August and his commitment to playing in 2023 is highly questionable.

It’s fair to say that last season Arians was too busy and lacking the energy to coach up Trask consistently or regularly. Now Arians won’t have a packed schedule and a team to manage. He can devote his Bucs hours (however many they are) to the most important position in the organization.

Joe is adamant; Arians should be spending 90 percent of his time teaching Trask and scouting college QBs. If that doesn’t happen, then the guys in charge at One Buc Palace should march to a psychiatrist’s office for a competency exam.

Completely agree. But I think he should also be scouting talent around the league and in the draft in case Brady bolts next year

  2. Bruce Blahak Says:

Good take. The next starting QB will be critical in keeping the Bucs relevance going.

  3. Bird Says:

Agree. Give him a legit chance to be number 2

Sorry but blame gabbert is not the guy

  4. OHBucsFan Says:

    Perfect post.

  5. Buczilla Says:

    Yup, I agree.

  6. SB~LV Says:

That would be true, only if there is a plan to get TB off the field when the game is in the bag and get Trask some real game time

  7. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

I 1000% agree. He should be working with him to setup Bowles for the future.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Absolutely & BA is all about leaving a legacy…..he got Bowles the HC job…..BL will be next……..Trask is to priority.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘It’s fair to say that last season Arians was too busy and lacking the energy to coach up Trask consistently or regularly.’

Wow, 6 agrees already Joe. Playing devil’s advocate for a moment, Arians was HEAD COACH last year, with the largest coaching staff in the NFL. BA didn’t ‘hand-pick’ Kyle Trask; he just happened to be there when we picked #60 in Rnd 2. Trask sat (and hopefully learned) all last season as the #4 QB on our roster, protected every game so some other team wouldn’t snarf him up off our Practice Squad.

Tell me again WHY HEAD COACH Bruce Arians didn’t take the time last season as we were making a play for another SB championship to ‘coach up’ the #4 QB on our roster?

Too busy? Got it. Lacking the energy? Ya right. Or MAYBE it was, as they’d say in the Islands … ‘Not my job man. Talk to Clyde Christiansen, Tom Moore and Byron Leftwich first, then we can talk’.

  10. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Sounds good but do you really think that’s what BA will do? My guess is – no…not so much.

  11. Ash Says:

Yeah I don’t think that happening at all. I would like imagine Clyde will continue to develop Trask as he has been.

  12. PSL Bob Says:

    Couldn’t agree more!

  13. Listnfrmafar Says:

Who did he coach up exactly??? If he is such a QB whisperer, why is it he couldn’t work with Jamais a Probowler??? His signing Brady was the only move that saved his so called legacy. The guy hasn’t done squat and failed miserably at coaching up Trask. He’s a lazy old man. Don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out. Flores should of held out a bit longer and Toilet Bowls could’ve road on the same bus. Offer Gronk the golf cart, he’ll sign tomorrow.

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR, did it ever occur to you that if BA “the QB whisperer ” did his job Trask wouldn’t of been #4 on the depth chart? Jones wasn’t on Belichick’s radar either, he fell to 15 and like Bucs basically had no choice but to take advantage of the opportunity. Jones could of easily road the bench behind Newton & Hoyer which is equivalent to Gabbert & Ryan. The guy is lazy and Trask has not developed as quickly as he should have is the result. Nice try though, HE WAS TOO BUSY, What doing interviews? He admitted he delegates the coaches and players know what to do. He spends his time preparing for his next presser.

  15. Bobby M. Says:

I think Trask is an important project he wants to finish on a high note. If he goes back to back in poor development of young QBs, that leaves a bit of a stain on his legacy. If Winston finally stabilizes in NO and Trask never does, then you have to start to say Brady was really the difference and Arians was merely the benefactor.

  16. Jersey buc Says:

List you are an idiot. JAymiss is a bum. The rest of league agrees. Took him months to sign in with the saints when he did it was for peanuts. How bout this year in free agency oh that’s right no one wanted him again! Payton is gone jaymiss will be top in the league with picks again promise you. Yea BA sucks 2 x coach of the year won a Super Bowl career winning record. Shut the F up! Bowles one of the top D cord. In the league. Sure saints fan base is light right about now go watch your man. Clown

  17. David Says:

Never thought of that angle but this definitely frees up time for him to do just that.

  18. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

I still would not be surprised to see them grab Mayfield given the chance. Arians obviously has a lot of pull with Licht and he loved him 3 years ago. If that were to happen, I think Trask gets traded. I’m certain after this year, they are thinking what are we going to do post Brady, which more than likely is 2023.

  19. Biff Barker Says:

I don’t even think BA should be staying in the organization let alone coaching Trask. We’ve got a good team in place.

All he is doing is usurping Bowles authority.

    Thanks for the memories coach!

  20. BUCman Says:

Bravo Joe! I completely agree with this take! Lasting success for the organization can be had if they commit to the full development of Trask! And they and the fans must show patients through any initial ruff patches he goes through as he gets his feet wet.

  21. Biff Barker Says:

BTW, who says we keep BA’s offensive scheme? The league figured out how to defend it last year.
Both the Saints and Rams know this.

  22. Bucsfan4ever Says:

When I watched Mayfield last year I had to wonder WTF he was doing out there.
He was obviously hurt badly and really belonged on IR.

  23. Listnfrmafar Says:

Jersey, so sensitive, are you one of those small block shaped Jersy Shore wannabe Italians with gold bling from head to toe barking on this blog as a forum to vent your small man disease syndrome? Answer me one simple question? Does BA win a SB in Tampa without Brady? Brady can sure lose one with BA at the helm. Adios angry old man.

  24. Buccos Says:

BA will probably wind up in the HOF some day so I really don’t think he has much to prove to any asshats on here that don’t think he’s a good coach. He is clearly the best coach we have ever had here in Tampa and Brady doesn’t come to Tampa without BA being here. Brady said as much in his statement.

  25. ChiBuc Says:

Bwahahaaa… “too busy.” Largest staff in the league a press darling oc qb running recruiting, play calling, team motivating, quality control, and much, much more, yet BA has no time. I want to believe, but the guy only seems to be able to whisper to 1st rounders and established legends and still his whispers went in 1 ear and out the other with #1 pick Jameis.

  26. patrickbucs Says:

Jamies a Pro Bowler? His rookie year when half the NFC QB’s dropped out of the Pro Bowl. He hasn’t been one since.

See what you have with Trask, he hasn’t even started a game for God’s sake. Develop him and go from there, low rookie cap on 2nd year deal. They can still draft a 1st rounder if they wanted to in the next few years if they do not like his development. Things is most of the best young QB’s now are all 1st rounders off the top of my head.

  27. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Thought this was Tom Moore’s job?

  28. Esteban85 Says:

The quarterback whisperer gets his final chance to prove his worth in this what have you done for me lately league.

  29. Esteban85 Says:

So BA attracts Brady to Tampa, wins the super bowl in year 2, puts up the best record this team has ever had in our history, year 3, and now he’s an old drunk bum?

  30. David Says:

Brady came back only if BA goes away. That is just stupid to put up with this old man over the hill QB where you have to surround him with the best players and a new coach just play for your team. He is too old to win you another super bowl. You have to re-build next year anyway. Give the young player including Trask a chance to play.
