$50 Million Per Year For Aaron Rodgers

March 8th, 2022

If Tom Brady were to wake up tomorrow and decide to return to the Bucs, he’d earn about $10 million this year — which perhaps is one reason why he’s unlikely to do that.

Brady got a wad of money up front and then when he renegotiated his contract last year. The end result is Brady surely needing a new deal if he’s going to play for the Bucs this season, as NFL Network Tom Pelissero put out there six weeks ago.

The “Brady needs more money” angle is just about never mentioned. But is it real?

Joe brings this up now because Aaron Rodgers today nailed down a new four-year contract that will play him $50 million per season. Fifty!

Rodgers and Brady are friends. So Joe suspects Brady was well aware that Rodgers was planning to demand north of $50 million in his negotiations.

Sometimes things are only about the money. The Brady saga probably isn’t one of those times, but Joe can hope. If Brady asks for $50 to come back, then Joe sure hopes general manager Jason Licht immediately starts gutting the Bucs defense to make it happen.

    $50 million per with $153M garunteed…

That is a lot of cheese. It will be interesting to see how Green Bay stays competitive while paying @ 20% of the cap to one player.

Plus – what happens with J. Love? Do they attempt to trade or does he just sit on the bench for a few more seasons? Seems like a waste of a first round pick at this point.

  2. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Man Brady was such a good deal.

  3. Pewter Power Says:

lol start getting the team to pay 50 mil for Brady and you think they will be able to compete for a championship lol ok. That’s a horrible idea on so many levels since the only reason Brady was able to compete is because of the roster we built

If it was all Brady then there he has no weapons excuse in New England doesn’t fly

  4. Bird Says:

If they sign adams for over 20 mil, those two players will account for around a third of teams cap. Hope he complains about management not bringing in enough talent

    😂

    Ole karen rodgers.

  5. zzbuc Says:

Heard what Charles Barkley had to say about contracts/money/team.???

    He nailed it.

That’s why TB12 is so great, he understands all the aspects of the game….

He gets less money from the team, his teammates get good money too, and he makes big money on endorsements because he wins…

Aaron Rodgers is all about him, he takes all the money and maybe 6 others, but he doesn’t win….

  6. Pewter Power Says:

Then again there isn’t much getting on the defensive side we could do to get 50 mil on the Bucs. Lucky this is a hypothetical, Brady never asked for this much and probably wouldn’t now as he knows he wouldn’t have a competitive team

  7. DBS Says:

$50 million $153 guaranteed for a choke artist and drama queen. Well at least he will probably get to the playoffs. Start Gabbert we won’t even smell them.

  8. mark2001 Says:

So if any charity calls you for cash, one you don’t totally support, I suggest you just tell them to call Aaron Rodgers. I’d imagine he as a few million laying around at any given moment.

  9. David Says:

Congratulations A-ARon, you just guaranteed you’ll definitely never win another Super Bowl

  10. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Cap is a joke, they will keep Adams, Rodgers and many other players and still go no1 in NFC. Saints did it the same time for years, it’s a excuse for owners to be cheap. They are going all in on Rodgers in a NFL where the no 2 is Stafford. The NFC talent pool at QB is very shallow.

  11. mark2001 Says:

And of course, Aaron will cry like a baby, when the team can’t keep good Free Agents, and ends up mortgaging their future, because he is personally eating up so much of the cap over the next few years. Must suck to be a Packer fan today.

  12. New England Patriots Fan Says:

While Rodgers may not win a SB, his cap hit was going to be 46m in 2022 anyways, he’s not stopping them from winning, Green Bay will be no1 seed again. May not win in playoffs, but the best QBs win the most games, and NFC North is weak.

  13. SPARKY Says:

But these top QBs are worth that to the owners money wise. I read once where some money guys got together and figured Brady made Bob Kraft between 150 to 200 million a year.

  14. mark2001 Says:

NE fan…you obviously don’t follow the Patriots. They would never mortgage their future with a deal like this. The good news for the Patriots, is that they are smart enough to not do so, and will likely be in a SB again, before the Packers ever will.

  15. Buczilla Says:

Damn, good for Rodgers. Get ready for even more commercials during broadcasts and an even bigger barrage of in-game plugs for soap, beer, what have you, while Troy Aikman, Romo, et al are calling games. I wonder if there is a limit to how much of this bs folks will be willing to put up with during broadcasts? Unless the Bucs leave Tampa, I’ll probably be dust before I hit mine. 😜

  16. Francisco Guzman Says:

Packers are gonna have to release some players.

  17. Anonymous Says:

Inflation is everywhere except in my wallet.

  18. GMC hater Says:

Man if Rodgers had trouble winning playoff games before I can’t imagine how much harder it’s going to be after that cap hit.

  19. New England Patriots Fan Says:

    QBs get paid.
Cowboys Great Troy Aikman New Contract: 5 Years, $90 Million at ESPN last week.

The bests QB of each division won every division in the NFL in 2022. QB is 80% why you win or lose in the modern NFL. Allen, Dak, Rodgers, Stafford, Mahomes, Tannehill, Burrow. You can’t win without a top QB. Full Stop.

Every NFC playoff team was a offensive coach in 2022.

Thats the value of a QB in 2022.

  20. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucs need to entice Brady to come back. Make some moves. Keep godwin. Go after Gilmore if they lose davis .

  21. WalkdaPlank Says:

This is why Brady has 7 rings and Rodgers only has 1.

Now that Karen Rodgers got his selfish paycut his team won’t be able to afford his best weapon Devante Adams, and when Rodgers inevitably loses in the 1st round or 2 in the playoffs the apologist will claim “he doesn’t have any weapons”.

When has Brady ever been the highest paid or even close?

  22. Francisco Guzman Says:

@ WalkdaPlank the patriots always had a system in place. They ember where big spenders in free agency.

  23. Ash Says:

Green bay is such a mess what was the point in drafting love what a joke of a franchise with a joke QB who had them held hostage and had them begging him to stay desperation stinks

  24. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    So glad that loser is not in Tampa;

  25. New England Patriots Fan Says:

@mark2001 Patriots won’t win again until Bill leaves, as the don’t pay for talent don’t have a top 5 QB. They lost much of the best offensive coaches to Oakland

NE will be a wildcard team again in 2022 as MacJones can’t win a SB. And Allen and Buffalo are a much better team. Only thing they helps Bill is Miami and Jets are garbage teams.

Patriots won because of Tom, Gronk, some olinemen and their 2 great kickers and Bill genius on Defense was the other main reason.

Bills patriot way was using Tom, to win and grab FA vets players there to play with Tom a star QB. It doesn’t work if Tom isn’t there taking a paycut. As stars don’t flock to play with Macjones and make 25% under market.

  26. Joe Says:

I read once where some money guys got together and figured Brady made Bob Kraft between 150 to 200 million a year.

And now you know, in part, why Team Glazer (and others like David Tepper) are so insistent on drafting and developing a franchise quarterback.

  27. Posey99 Says:

“drafting and developing a franchise quarterback.”

There’s one on the roster. Seems every news outlet has a story about it beside this one. But I guess Joe doesn’t find it interesting the Head coach is calling him the #1 door and a vet QB door #2

  28. WalkdaPlank Says:

“If Brady asks for $50 to come back, then Joe sure hopes general manager Jason Licht immediately starts gutting the Bucs defense to make it happen.“

Brady is the undisputed greatest of all time, but out of the 7 Super Bowls he’s won here’s a list of those Super Bowls in which he did NOT have a top 10 defense:

    0

  31. TiredBucsFan Says:

I saw the Broncos got Wilson!

  32. SOEbuc Says:

Lmao. I just CHOKED on my Woodys Gorgonzola salad. How much money do these people need and why would you pay this 38 year old choke artist $50 million a year???

  33. Marine Buc Says:

    BREAKING NFL QB NEWS

Seattle trades QB R. Wilson to Denver…

    Wow…

  34. Francisco Guzman Says:

Brady has to come back. Bucs need to entice him. Make some moves. Free up cap space.

  35. New England Patriots Fan Says:

NFC is a joke at QB now it’s just Rodgers and Stafford.

    Good for Seattle and Denver

  36. HC Grover Says:

Pay Brady 50 million and see what he say.

  37. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Wilson will want 150 m guaranteed haha

  38. Francisco Guzman Says:

49ers could keep jimmy g now. Bucs need to get Brady out of retirement.

  39. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Clear path to SB in NFC for Tampa and a top QB now

  40. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Have to beat Jimmy/Lance, Murray, Dak, Stafford and Rodgers.

And you may not even have to play Rodgers or Stafford in playoffs. Huge power vacuum in NFC now. Imagine if Rodgers went to Pitt, even Dak could make a SB.

  41. Francisco Guzman Says:

The bucs could clear up 40 million in cap space if they wanted to. Do they get any money from the marpet retirement?

  42. HC Grover Says:

Seems like it is now get Brady back or a total rebuild. Wilson gone Denver QB’s are in low supply and high demand.

  43. Letsbuccinggo Says:

Its amazing that the Packers are minus 30 mil in the salary cap already and now they are going to tag DeVonte Adams 19.2 mil and pay Drama Queen CryBaby Choke Artist Gigolo Rodgers 50 mil a year. What a joke the salary cap is.

  44. Francisco Guzman Says:

@Letsbuccinggo they’re still over the cap. They will have to release some players!

  45. New England Patriots Fan Says:

As I’ve said before cap means nothing. Dallas Cowboys rework Dak Prescott, Zack Martin deals; create $22M-plus in cap room today. Daks bad cap hit just dropped. You just push the money forward and the cap goes up.

Rodgers new deal dropped his cap in 2022 so Devante will be signed.

  46. HC Grover Says:

Is there a glimmer of hope to keep Brady? If so Pay the man 55 million.

  47. HC Grover Says:

    And do not forget Gronk!

  48. Oneilbuc Says:

Brady ain’t coming back move on!!

  49. Oneilbuc Says:

All of you who keep hoping and begging for Brady to come back or losers when it comes to football. I thought BA was the quarterback whisper 🤔 ? Lol 😆 🤣 yall talked all that noise about me and now look at yall 🤣 😂 !! I thought Jamies was the problem remember because we have the quarterback whisper 🤔 lol 😆 🤣. Most of yall gone since Brady retire and the rest of yall are begging him to come 😂!!! I told yall I’m a real bucs fan now it’s time for the bucs to develop our own quarterback and yall scared 😱 !! Yall need to apologize to Jamies and other quarterbacks the bucs drafted!!!

  50. SlyPirate Says:

What’s funny, is Rodgers will be complaining that Green Bay has no talent.

  51. Crickett Baker Says:

Why would Brady come back for $50M? His wife made $400M last year. He is starring in a movie with Sally Fields that I assure you pays more than $50M. Other industries pay a LOT more than football does. You guys are nuts.

  52. catcard202 Says:

Crickett, you forgot to mention that the TB12 brand will likely end up being another $1B retirement plan. Then there’s the kids…& getting to be dad 100%…Too many good reasons to stay retired. No sense in risking any potential diminishment of his brand.

TB12 got out when the gettin’ was good. He won another SB in 2020 & stuck it to Belicheat/Kraft in the process…Then ended his career w/ maybe his best statistical season @ 44. (& was 100% robbed of the MVP).

  53. Buccos Says:

Brady will be back. Trask will have to wait one more year.

  54. ZavierDeSine Says:

This is where Brady being compared to any other Quarterback pisses me off. The most overlooked thing about Brady was his unselfishness when it came to money. It’s one of the reasons I have lost all respect for Bruce Arians. He is going around spouting his nonsense about it being “bad business” to let Brady go to another team. Well if Brady hadn’t allowed you to kick the can down the road by restructuring his contract, Tampa wouldn’t have had anything to say about what he did in 2022.

But Brady has always played under team friendly contracts, so there would be $$ for other players around him.

  55. Buccfan37 Says:

Brady is finished, stick a fork in him. Without the Bucs tough offensive line and spectacular defense he is just a washed up old codger.

  56. Eli Says:

50 mil for a player who can’t seem to close the deal. Ridiculous amounts of money being paid out to little boys chasing their youth by playing a game.

Good players get cut so the inflated egos of a few can reap the rewards. So many thugs being rewarded and still being able to play.
