Publication Predicts Bucs Sign America’s Quarterback

February 13th, 2022

A return?

Joe would be willing to lay cash this doesn’t happen. But it would be one way to save cash to pay Playoff Lenny, Chris Godwin, Ryan Jensen and Carlton Davis.

While a long shot, Michelle Bruton of Bleacher Report made a prediction for every NFL team to sign one player in free agency. Bruton thinks if you factor in the salary cap, Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, would be an inexpensive option to replace Tom Brady.

If the Bucs decide to try the veteran QB route or want someone to serve as a bridge to a rookie they may draft in the next year or two, why not take a chance on their once-promising 2015 first overall pick? Jameis Winston spent the last two years in the QB school of Sean Payton, and while his talent still has a high ceiling, he has always been undone by his propensity for turnovers.

Are those days behind him? Could he walk back into the arms of self-proclaimed “Quarterback Whisperer” Bruce Arians and show he can be a starting QB in the NFL? The Buccaneers may be bold enough to test the waters again.

This would certainly be a bold move but would it be smart?

Positives: Jameis is one of only eight quarterbacks in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards in a season, which is extraordinary. He also knows the offense, the Bucs’ main targets and you could probably sign Jameis on the cheap.

Negatives: Well, he’s Jameis, he is coming off major knee surgery, and so many Bucs fans revile him because… he’s Jameis. No other reason.

Joe doesn’t think Jameis would be ideal only because he has so many bridges burnt here, but the Bucs are not in a position to be picky. Would Joe select him over Teddy Bridgewater? Hell, yes. Joe might choose Blaine Gabbert over Bridgewater.

Would Joe select Jameis over Jimmy GQ? That would be a tough one but probably *only* because Jameis knows the offense already.

If Jameis does come back, then Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles better tighten his ship up.

  1. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

I’m really not sure of JW coming back would work. I really have mixed emotions. I wouldn’t mind seeing what we have in Trask. I would not trade for Watson or Wilson. Too expensive. Rather concentrate on signing our own FA’s. After giving it more thought Winston would be okay on the cheap.

  2. Jay Says:

I could tolerate a contract like the one he signed in his first year with the Saints. But even after that, it will be very hard to forget how he made Party after the Saints won against us last year and root again for this guy…

Please dont spend millions in this Dude, lets give Trask a Shot!

  3. gotbbucs Says:

I’m willing to lay cash out there that most starting caliber NFL quarterback’s can throw for 4000+ yards and 30+ TD’s in Arians system with Evans and Godwin catching balls.

There is not a single snow balls chance in hell that they bring Winston back though. That ship sailed way out of sight.

  4. Beeej Says:

I’m guessing Trask would look like Tua or Mac Jones at the very BEST. Would love to be a fly on the wall at One Buc Place listening to the conversations

  5. Biff Barker Says:

No. A thousand times No! “Let’s eat a win guy”? No! He gave the entire Bucs offense to the slimy Saints.
Cant blame him. The savior “America’s QB” got run for running the league’s best version of the “chuck and duck”.
    Screw him forever.

  6. Gettinthebucs Says:

I’ve always been a Jameis supporter and to be honest I’m quite intrigued by a reunion. He knows the offense and I think the most overlooked part of this thing is that he’ll have two years of Tom Brady tape to review. He’s gonna have to come out hot right out of the gates though. Let him battle with Trask. If he wins great, If he loses we can cut him and let him go find another team.

  7. Buczilla Says:

LOL, the Jameis era is thankfully over. The best qb option is Trask and a rookie unless Green Bay or Seattle are giving us their qb’s for free. I don’t want Jimmy, Teddy, or Carr either.

  8. JeffreyLane77 Says:

    Yeah… No.

  9. 1sparkybuc Says:

He cleaned up the turnover issue with the Saints, though I recognize that he also didn’t throw as often either. I would be good with a Jameis/Trask competition. I believe we would at least win the division title. That gives us a shot at another SB. It’s a long shot, but still better than the alternative.

  10. Marine Buc Says:

The Positives – Winston would be a cheap QB and is familiar with the offense.

The Negatives – Interceptions and fumbles.

    FTFY…

Just to say we hate Jamies just because he is Jamies is a ridiculous statement.

We hated the record setting interceptions, fumbles and bonehead plays…

Perhaps with expectations at an all time low Winston won’t disappoint us as much as he did the first go round.

  11. Nate1111 Says:

Please stop with americas qb.. hes americas crab leg king

  12. BUCman Says:

The thought of it makes me feel sick 🤢

  13. Bobby M. Says:

Supposedly the Glazer sister was never a fan of him BEFORE we drafted him….after the Uber incident his fate was sealed unless he was such an undeniable reason we were winning. His best season was 9-7 and almost getting a wildcard…..big picture is 5 yrs of losing. He’s a buffoon, that will be even more glaringly obvious in the locker room following THE GOAT. He’s a free agent, yet the focus is on guys that teams must trade for. The Saints would surely lock him up if he displayed in degree of competency at the position. Jameis biggest issue is he’s a bizarre dude. His perception of himself vs reality is incredibly distorted.

  14. Jeagan1999 Says:

    Good God…..please no!

  15. mark2001 Says:

A dog shouldn’t return to his vomit.

  16. Doug Says:

    Hell no!

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We can’t bring Jameis back because of his Uber “hassle”……let’s bring in Deshaun Watson instead…..

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Jameis is not coming here. But..I would take him over what we have now. Wouldn’t you? And he can be had on the cheap. Not a knock on him. But he is coming off a serious injury. Don’t let Buc Mngt fool you..I bet he is an option being discussed.

  19. Hodad Says:

Just rip the bandaid off. Blaine Gabbert will be the Bucs opening day starter.

  20. Winny Testaverde Says:

What a lazy, borderline stupid take. Way too much sewage water under that bridge.

  21. Cobraboy Says:

    No.

    No.

    No.

    No.

Signing ATM is a sure-fire method for cooling my Buc passion.

    “Hell to the naw!”

  22. Captain Oblivious Says:

The only way a second Winston experiment would work in Tampa is if the Bucs hired Sean Peyton as HC. JW wasn’t playing too bad for the Saints until he got injured.

    Also Joe, regarding coaching:
……………….Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles better tighten his ship up. (I don’t know how to do strike-throughs).

  23. Pewter Power Says:

Goes to show you should get your Bucs news locally, everyone else writes articles for the hell of it. Why would he want to come back here. Why would we want him back when Bucs already know exactly what they are getting and that is not championship play

  24. RandsABucFan Says:

I’d rather lose every game than go back to Winston.

  25. Dking Says:

Not only is he one of eight QBs to throw for over 5000 yards, he’s the only QB ever to throw 30 TD’s and 30 interceptions in the same season. And the cherry on top is he has the single season record for pick 6s thrown. More like America’s turnover machine, toilet bowler, L eating, Mr dumpster fire

  26. lambchop Says:

Nothing has changed. JW is not going to be courted by the Bucs. We have seen what the difference a QB makes, especially in the TD:INT ratio.

Once you breakup, there’s no going back. And JW himself would not come to Tampa even if it was the only team that wanted him. He would sit waiting for an injury than sign with Tampa.

Who comes up with this dumb logic? It would be the most awkward and passive-aggressive arrangement ever.

  27. PSL Bob Says:

TBBF, good one! We don’t need more trouble. How’d that work out with AB?

  28. Pelsbuc61 Says:

That would be the absolute worst decision in Bucs history! Hell no!

  29. 🏄‍♂️ dude Says:

Yes! Bring back the Round 1 Pick 1 Interception Machine!

  30. Duane Says:

No need to set Jameis up for failure again. Lets see another passer throw for 5000 and overcome the deficiencies of the defense. Btw, if Trask/Glennon 2.0 were even remotely the answer, we wouldnt be hearing about TB12 coming back, or other wish listing options.

  31. Joe M Says:

    Jameis??? Are you F’n crazy?
Americas QB my a..s He’d be
the worst thing to happen for a bucs team that wants to make it back to the playoffs. You’re crazy to even mention his name.

  32. firethecannons Says:

much much much rather play Kyle Trask then winston again

  33. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Ah yes America’s Turnover Machine

Nice to see the Joes still gushing over Jimmy G. Yeah I’d take Jameis over him, not because I like Jameis or because he knows the offense. But because Jameis wouldn’t cost anywhere near $27 million like Jimmy G would but would probably give you the same result (it’s not a good one btw)

  34. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

You wanna see the true Jameis Winston come out? Put him back in charge of the NO Riskit No Biskit offense. He will throw another 20+ ints and fumbles again. He is unable to be accurate when absolutely necessary because he is the ATM. Arians would not be able to keep a tight enough reign on him like Payton could because he’s not disciplined enough a head coach. Been there done that. No thank you. Trask is cheaper and probably better character wise plus spent an entire year learning the offense AND learning from the GOAT. We’ll do much better with our 2nd year player than a rehash of the ATM

  35. LakelandSteve Says:

Never say never. Arians said he would never allow A.B. Play here and low and behold he did. My mind tells me there is no way the Bucs bring Jameis back but we all know stranger things have happened and you never know. Maybe he has been humbled a little bit and is a more mature QB than the Jameis that was here before.

  36. DoooshLaRue Says:

No for a couple of reasons:

    He sucks.
It would mean a return to this site by ndog.

…..on the other hand……he does have such a high ceiling……
    🤣🤣🤣

  37. WillieG Says:

Negatives: Well, he’s Jameis, he is coming off major knee surgery, and so many Bucs fans revile him because… he’s Jameis. No other reason.

    WRONG!!!

We revile him because he’s a freakin turnover machine on the field and a sex offended off the field.

  38. RustyRhinos Says:

“he’s Jameis. No other reason” could it be that the QB with the greatest football IQ, could not get past throwing the ball to the other team way way way to often for a defense and the rest of the team to overcome? Or 5he he always had the same line after yet another multiple int game. “I just got to improve my game.” Season after season after season. When was that supposed to actually happen. Season 6, 7, 8? At how many million. No thanks

  39. nate Says:

We need Rodgers and Brady they both play half seasons..

  40. Robert Says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  41. Kevin Marbley Says:

Stop hating on Jameis he’s ripe and ready now,

    STOP HATING.

  42. Dapostman Says:

I honestly think Winston would want to beat the Bucs MORE than join the Bucs. His two years in NOLA looks like he has turned the corner with a 14/3 TD/int ratio. Though his yards passing per game were way down from his Buc days he played well until the injury. A structured and disciplined coach like Payton is what Winston needed. Kangol Arians is not that guy.

If he doesn’t resign with the Saints I could see him signing with the Steelers.

  43. Tye Says:

    Interested to know:

Has any team in NFL history ever moved on from a BUST (2x bust because it was obvious the Saints limited his throwing) and tried to make him the starter years later?

Sounds like a Bucs thing to do!

  44. Stone crab sam Says:

Could you imagine going from brady back to mr. Crab legs?
    I cant😬

  45. BradyBucs Says:

    SIGN KURT WARNER

  46. Jerseybuc Says:

Are they trying to kill BA?

  47. Oxycodoms Says:

    As the janitor

  48. Oh no here we suck again with no TB Says:

    Nooooooooooooooooooooo….please GOD no.

  49. Jameisgirl1 Says:

Y’all would really rather go with Trask instead of Jameis😂that’s why y’all are losers without the goat running the whole show😂😂

  50. Irishmist Says:

I think that screenshot Joe put up of Winston wearing an Eagles jersey during our playoff game with them probably indicates he still bears us a bit of a grudge.

  51. Keith G Johnson Says:

Mixed on this so much talent just don’t know! At times there’s nothing between his ears… time will tell. And I’m an FSU fan.

  52. David Says:

    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    No chance. Fake news

  53. DirtyBucs Says:

I wouldn’t watch a game until he wasn’t on the roster again. Can’t believe they would even consider this.

  54. Jameis 2023 Says:

Bring back Famous Jameis Winston. Oh the extra clicks joebucsfan comment would have by signing Famous Jameis. Or let Trask play and wish the Bucs signed Jameis…

  55. Eli Says:

Please…NO! To be a QB at the NFL Level you must have enough smarts to not only handle the playbook, but to understand your own limitations. This cat must be color blind, hitting the opposition as much as the pewter.

  56. Ryan Says:

If they bring that bum back I’ll never watch a game until he’s gone f him

  57. David G Says:

I really thought JW would be in mvp talk if he cut interception in half and returned for his second year in offense still think he can throwing for 5000 yards is impressive just have to throw the ball to his team and we didn’t have the running game to help him

  58. Mark Reese Says:

I think those people who are saying no to bringing Winston back need to remember that when he was here the first time the Bucs had absolutely zero running game and thus were forced to throw it 40 to 50 times a game. I think Winston showed in New Orleans what he can do with a good running back in support. Now, Lenny is not in the same caliber as kamara but he’s still better than what they had when Winston was here before. When you couple that with the fact that he can be gotten on the (relatively) cheap side which would enable the team to resign godwin, Jensen, and some others I think bringing Winston back wouldn’t be the worst idea.

  59. michael.a.smith Says:

2022,there’s got to be someone that the Buc’s can sign with a winning record and experienced that won’t break the bank.

  60. Tony Says:

    ITS COLIN KAEPERNICK TIME!😀

  61. Tony Says:

We’re gonna have one of these guys as the starter next year. Either CAPTAIN FEAR, CAPTAIN CRUNCH OR JOHNNY DEPP!

  62. Vinnie V Says:

NO, NO NO. Not JW. Garappolo is our guy.

  63. Erik Says:

They should give Trask a chance, he sat on the bench the whole season and trained with Brady learning all that he could. Let’s see what he has and maybe he could be the answer we need for the position. I would rather give him a shot than to bring jw back. Besides I dont think anyone really wants jw coming back especially the fans.

  64. Danny Says:

    NO

  65. Rich L Says:

Jameis would be stupid to go back to Tampa. He put up crazy numbers and the fans still hated him. They ran him out of there to move in Brady. Tampa deserves to be a losing team again. Screw Arians for real…

  66. Defy9Ordinary Says:

No thanks on Jaboo. I’ll also put $$ on it that Licht would rather have Carson Wentz, Jimmy GQ or Teddy Two Gloves in the house, than a insecure QB that recently left Tampa & went to the dirtiest coached team in the league > the Bountygate Aints. It appears Winston gave them every play Tampa ever ran on both sides of the ball… Btw, the Aints did in fact avenge Winston’s unfortunate knee injury by making sure on 12/19 that at least one of the Buccaneers went down for the count — hard! Godwin will be back stronger than ever! Ahhh it’s a BIG fat NO on the turnover machine YO!!
