Mike Evans Won’t Lobby For A Quarterback

February 11th, 2022

Leaving Jason Licht alone.

With Tom Brady gone from the Bucs, is there anyone on the Tampa Bay offense with more street cred both on and off the field than Mike Evans?

Joe sure doesn’t think so.

Only Lavonte David and Will Gholston have been with the Bucs longer and suffered more losing than Evans. The way Evans year in and year out produces Pro Bowl numbers, it’s not a stretch to suggest Evans is on the road to the Hall of Fame.

So yesterday in an interview with Colin Cowherd, seen on FS1, Cowherd told Evans how he deserves all the respect that comes his way. He’s earned it. And with all that street cred, Cowherd asked, will Evans go to Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and lobby for a specific quarterback, given that the Bucs will still have a core until from a Super Bowl champion?

First, Evans thanks Cowherd for calling him a Hall of Famer. Then Evans said he would never stomp into Licht’s office and demand he acquires a certain player. And then came all you need to know about what type of class man Evans is; he added the following:

“If [Licht] asked me, obviously I would give my input,” Evans began. “I just come to work. I’m a pro, man. I’m just blessed to be in this position. I’m all about my craft and being the best player I can be. Whoever the quarterback will be, time will tell. I just have to make sure I get open whoever it is.”

Class dude. Class pro. Hard worker.

Complete pro.

Yeah, he will have his name up in the Ring of Honor someday.

  4. Buc50 Says:

I’m sure there are people here willing to trade him for AR or Derek Carr. I hope he retires as a Buc.

  5. #1bucsfan Says:

All time favorite Bucs A-train, lynch , sapp , brooks ,ronde, LVD ME13. All will be in the hall of fame. Even ronde. Even tho he’s getting no respect

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We can lobby for a QB…..Joe can lobby for a QB…..but players shouldn’t…

Why?…..Well, if they don’t succeed….they end up with Trask knowing they didn’t support him and that wouldn’t be good.

  7. Bobby M. Says:

I think we’ll start to get a better sense of who we might get when the combine starts.

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

Considering that he was a productive WR for any QB that donned a Bucs jersey, I expect nothing less.

Mike Evans will be in the HOF some day. One of the great Buc players to take the field.

  9. Anonymous Says:

That’s what I like someone that goes to work n does his job as good as anyone n brings no drama. 👍👍

  10. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

Much respect for Mike! When we drafted him I knew we had something special. Proud to have him as a Buc!

  11. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Statements like that should motivate this organization to get the best QB possible. Anything less will echo to the rest of the league that we are back to being a weak franchise.

  12. deuceswild78 Says:

so blessed to have dudes like ME and LVD for many years

  13. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Having ME13 in this town and this team is a blessing for what he has done for the area and setting roots in town with his family; he is a 100% sure fire first ballot HOFer, IRA better get that speech ready in 10 years. Mike is a modern day Lee Roy Selmon for this town

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

Class act but his voice counts and he should use it. If Brady didn’t request Gronk, AB (yes AB), Lenny and Sherman ( too bad he couldn’t play but as a leader he was awesome). Would the Bucs have a SB or NFC South Title?

  15. PSL Bob Says:

Class act no doubt! Proud to wear his jersey.

  16. LakelandSteve Says:

Mike Evans is a throwback player. Back in the days when there wasn’t all this me, me ,me stuff. He has been and is an excellent representative for the Bucs and Pro Football. Definitely a Hall of Famer

  20. Swampbuc Says:

    I need to get a #13 jersey

  21. tampabayallday Says:

He needs to be a Buc for life.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Mike no doubt retiring as a Buc. Licht hires good, professional players (Except letting Brady hire AB). Nothing but professional that (made) the best roster.

  23. allbuccedup Says:

Mikes an all around class act on and off the field.

  24. SlyPirate Says:

If Evans records an even 1000 yards per year, here is where he ranks all time …

    Current – #59
    1 season – #44
    2 seasons – #35
    3 seasons – #23
    4 seasons – #16
    5 seasons – #10
    6 seasons – #4

    7 seasons – #3
    8 seasons – #3
    9 seasons – #2

If Mike records 1000 yards over the next 3 seasons, he’ll tie The Jerry Rice for longest run of consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.

I think Mike finishes #4 all time. Just ahead of Randy Moss.

  25. NewarkBucsfan Says:

By far the best receiver we’ve had, off the field the man is a class act. For sure a HOF, and yes he should be a first ballot inductee.

  26. Tyrone Jones Says:

    He is the ultimate professional!!!

  27. Rod Munch Says:

Easy choice for Evans and Godwin…

    They want Winston.

  28. David Hopkins Says:

Mike doesn’t need to lobby for a quarterback. He’s already got one. The guy’s name is Brady. I hear he’s pretty good.
In the words of The Who, Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
You don’t REALLY think Tom is going to stay retired do you?
