Keyshawn Johnson: Bruce Arians Is Lying

February 24th, 2022

Ex-Buc calls BS on B.A.

A long and growing line of big-name NFL media types do not believe Bucco Bruce Arians is telling the truth when he says he feels good about Blaine Gabbert being his 2022 starting quarterback.

Joe has chronicled many of them, but what stands out is how passionate all of them seem to be in their disbelief of what the head coach said earlier this week.

It’s as if they collectively took one sniff and vomited.

“I don’t give a damn how great Bruce Arians thinks he is as a coach. You can’t fix that,” Keyshawn Johnson said to his massive ESPN Radio audience this morning, referring to Blaine Gabbert.

“He’s a backup for a reason. He was selected in the first round out of the Missouri, but he’s not like that. He’s just not. As Stephen A. [Smith] would say, ‘Lies, lies, lies, lies, lies.’ [Arians] is lying. He don’t even believe his own lies. Blaine Gabbert? C’mon, man. Stop.”

Johnson went on to call Arians’ comments a play-action fake.

“He’s getting ready to stick the ball in the belly and pull it out, and the defender going to bite and [Arians] gonna throw it right over your head,” Johnson said. “Y’all going to look up and he’s going to have Russell Wilson starting at quarterback.”

Joe can dream — dream that Johnson is on the money.

  1. Rod Munch Says:

He’s not lying, he’s BS’ing, classic misdirection, like saying he actually wanted that limp-armed Teddy Bridgewater. He didn’t want that guy, but he convinced the media he did, meanwhile he was out to get Brady, and if Brady didn’t come here, he was driving down the cost on resigning Winston.

But BS’ing isn’t the same as lying, c’mon man.

  2. Listnfrmafar Says:

Why would he say that? BA doesn’t fabricate!

  3. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Rod

I agree. “lying” is such a nasty term.

BA is not thrilled to have Gabbert as his starting QB – who in their right mind would be?

I believe the Bucs are exploring multiple options at QB – but BA probably knows there is a decent chance he will end up with Gabbert as his starting QB

So he is “hedging his bets”…

By praising Gabbert he is providing a “smokescreen” and he is also prepping Buc Nation for the possibility that Plain Blaine is our starting QB next season.

  4. Biff Barker Says:

Santino, never let someone outside of the family know what you are thinking”

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Marine Buc – I completely disagree, I can’t foresee a situation where they’d have Gabbert starter, there is just no way that will happen. I’m not for starting Trask at this point, but I’d take that every time over starting Gabbert. Also if they actually thought they could win with Gabbert, it would mean making a bunch of dumb salary cap moves and pushing off a lot of cap hits to next year, instead of just going with Trask and taking all your cap hits this year and going into 2023 with lots of cap space and a lot of comp picks in the draft from all the vets leaving.

Finally I can’t see Licht, or even the Glazers, allowing Arians to go with Gabbert.

I’m perfectly fine with going with Trask if the idea is to tank, as I said clean up the cap, get a high draft pick in 2023 when you can get a real QB, or who knows, maybe Trask plays well, then you’re in great shape for 2023. But Gabbert shouldn’t be in any plans, ever.

  6. Ben green Says:

Ben agrees. clean up y’all’s cap, in preparation for a 2035 superbowl run. It makes perfect sense.

  7. sasquatch Says:

I don’t care if Arians publicly expresses confidence in Gabbert. I don’t care if it’s a little fib. You don’t want anyone to think you’re desperate or that the organization is panicked. It doesn’t matter what he says now. We’ll be trying to acquire a more legit starter.

  8. Warrenfb12 Says:

Back to the dark ages if it’s Gabbert. Come on man Blaine Gabbert?!! Gtfoh.

  9. adam from ny Says:

    @Marine:

BA will resign or get an ailment and doctors note, and bail so dang fast if gabbert is his starting qb in his final year of coaching…

against a schedule like that – only to finish 5-12…

he bails after week 3 if the roster ain’t right

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I too would rather see Trask than Gabbert, but it appears the Bucs were totally caught by surprise by Brady’s sudden retirement.
My Son totally hates Gabbert, maybe more than Rod Munch ?
I don’t hate him that much, but I hope we find a better choice.

  11. adam from ny Says:

also, depending how mad brady is at BA, and if any of the stories are true, he mightv try to “belichik him”…

the definition of getting belichiked is:

when one tom brady gets pissed AF at you and makes it his goal to outdo you in the coming season by means of having success on another team, while the former team plummets in the standings and into oblivion, and more so, to jam a superbowl trophy right up yer azz in the process…

    #FearTheWrathOfTheGoaticuousOne #TommyGoaticuous

we have seen it here in 2020 – yet we were on the good guys side

  12. adam from ny Says:

    but wait……………………so we’re getting russell chilson ??? 🙂

  13. Eric Says:

When did pro football coaches start telling the truth in the off season?

  14. CJBuc Says:

Ben Green….except it wont be 2035. Our next superbowl will be in 2039. U know 18 years from the last one…..just like before, lol

  15. adam from ny Says:

also in regards to tom, if he can win superbowls 8 & 9, and mac jones if floating in mediocrity in new england because coaches have figured out his film, if the team is built up all around him and superbowl ready, just watch as tom and bill reunite for one last hurrah season…and tom will walk away with ring number 10…

  16. Jerry R Jones Says:

    Keyshawn who?

  17. kgh4life Says:

The only way Gabbert starts, is if it’s a rebuild.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is absolutely no such thing as lying if you are a HC, GM, OC, DC or Politician…..

  19. Greg Says:

@Cris App. With all due respect no way the Bucs were suprised by TB ‘s decision as they knew it was a strong possibility. I am sure the options for going forward have been discussed more than we know. All speculation going forward.

  20. SOEbuc Says:

Arians has been s-ing Gabbert d and his terrible play for years. Maybe that’s what he sees, but not Licht and Glazer’s won’t.

  21. Bucs864 Says:

BA is only lying when his lips are moving. Have you ever known him to tell the about anything??

  22. steele Says:

It would be nice if Key’s joke comes true. It won’t. Wilson ain’t leaving Seahawks. And he would cost multiple first round picks, and a gigantic salary. Not happening. None of the big names are happening, barring a decision to mortgage the future completely.

  23. Craig Says:

Brucie is just trying to keep some attention in the Bucs. He can’t do squat until free agency happens and the Bucs figure out how to field a team of NFL quality players.

There won’t be enough money left to get a good veteran QB. He has to hope Trask is ready, but if not Gabbert will start a few games.

If I were Trask I would be at a QB whisperer, getting new things to work like muscle memory.

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

Don’t like Keyshawn but…He’s dead right about Gabbert. I’d even go after Winston again rather than have him start.

  25. Deano Says:

adam BA leaves in week 3… BL takes over.. Brady decides to come back. We can wish

  26. New England Patriots Fan Says:

BA was not trying to confuse the league or other GMa this was for the fan base.

Tampa has to create a situation where the only option is to trade for DW or for the team to fail. Their is no way BA stays on to coach Gabbert or Trask after 2 years with TB.

He knows they have a deal in place for DW 2 1st and 2nd, but his baggage is so bad much of the fan base will hate having DW be the face of the franchise.

By suggesting only bad options, and not targeting tradable QBs he setting up the fan base to be happy for DW talent or your be stuck with Gabbert type argument.

So when AR and RW and DC are signed to huge 40-50m/y contracts and there’s only DW, or a bust FA, the team will take on DW contract and manage his suspension.

Every major media head for weeks has repeated Tampa owners won’t move on from TB and drop to a bargain type talent but go all in on a major star.

  27. Pewter Power Says:

People think that dude lying but he old as time and if he said it he probably does believe not really knowing what he is saying. He gave that same talk for sneak Vaughn. I think BA is senile enough to start the tandem of Vaughn and gabbert and not only that to fully believe he can compete

  28. TampabayDJ82 Says:

I think 🤔 we should stop listening to the talking heads ! You know , the same ones that are NEVER right about anything ! They all talk about EVERY possible thing and when it happens they get to say they said it first ! First it was Kyler Murray , and on and on to Gabbert . Trask was the talk of the week just last week !! Let’s just see what happens. For all we know , Brady is pissed , but he is pissed at the Media for coming out and saying he was going to retire !! Maybe he is giving them the middle finger and will be ready to suit up for our Bucs come training camp .. WHO KNOWS UNTIL IT HAPPENS

  29. David Says:

As much as I try not to really like either one of them, Michael Irvin and Keyshawn Johnson aren’t half bad as commentators… Although I can only take them for so long.
I completely agree with Keyshawn on this but with the cap space situation, I just don’t see how they can possibly pull off Wilson or Watson etc. while keeping a lot of the players they need

  30. allbuccedup Says:

BA is always full of BS.

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

Roger’s isn’t going to the AFC when he may have to compete with Mahomes, Allen, Hebert, Carr, Burroughs & possibly Watson instead of just Wilson & Cousins in the NFC the rest are a step or two down.

  32. Listnfrmafar Says:

Allbuc@ BA is full of BS when it comes to AB, TB and BL. So FU BA.

  33. Bucs Win Says:

BA is a great head coach, anyone saying otherwise is either a troll or a moron.

  34. DrunkInYbor Says:

I really dislike Meshaun. But I thought the same thing. I believe it’s a smart negotiating tactic. If we look like we are so desperate, the demands can and will be higher. It’s all about negotiating at least in my opinion and that’s not worth alit these day. But hey it’s mine.

  35. Jim Stevens Says:

I do not care what Keyshawn Johnson has to say he quit on his team mid season!! F U meshaun

  36. Phred Says:

Of course BA is going to say he is thrilled with BG & KT. He is trying to but a quarterback!

One guy walks on to a car lot with his wallet open and pants around his ankles saying “I desperately need a car.”

Another guy walks in, says my current vehicle is fine and then you reluctantly let the salesman into buying what you want.

Which customer gets the netter price?

  37. Phred Says:

    *buy

  38. Phred Says:

    *better

  39. Brent Clark Says:

Gabbert will be keeping TB12’s seat warm for his return.

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

Clark. Brady ain’t coming back he’s done get over it lol 😂 🤣!!
