Justin Watson Lands With The Chiefs

February 4th, 2022

New home.

Free agency started early for the Buccaneers’ fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Receiver Justin Watson was injured and then on and off the Bucs’ practice squad and active roster last season. He cleared waivers once in the process and then was released by Tampa Bay in late January.

Now, he’ll be vying for a job to catch balls from Patrick Mahomes.

Watson, 25, came to the Bucs with a ton of speed and athleticism out of the Ivy League (University of Pennsylvania). He never quite made it as a receiver, flashing shaky hands at times and then he was on the wrong end of a Tom Brady pick-6 in 2020. That seemed to kill Brady’s confidence in Watson and he was buried on the bench.

Watson was solid on the Bucs’ not-so-great special teams, but Joe can understand why general manager Jason Licht and Bucco Bruce Arians moved on.

Joe wishes Watson well.

I still think this guy has some potential…might stick as the Chiefs 4th or 5th receiver. And I believe he was on the wrong end of 2 Brady pick 6’s ( Chargers & Saints )…which is a career limiting move a la Ira and the lampshade on the head incident at the fishwrap Christmas party many moons ago.

    The team just improved.

I think he has potential. Brady lost confidence in him which killed him here. I think he could have been our 3rd receiver.

For awhile there I thought that this kid would turn out to be pretty good.

  20. Bobby M. Says:

He had plenty of chances to stick….just didn’t work out. Darden reminds me of Watson, you see the potential but it never equates to anything.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

Lead special teams in tackles two years ago!

    Was Watson ever healthy?

  23. Rod Munch Says:

This idiot was personally responsible for two Tom Brady pick sixes. He sucks, and good riddance.

  24. mark2001 Says:

Good luck to him.. Tarzan in training camp…Jane once the season kicks off.

  25. gp Says:

Why are league minimum deals (just guessing) newsworthy?
I do expect to see it here as this IS the end all-get all Bucs news site.
Willing to bet it gets less play on the corresponding Chiefs sites.
