Houston Radio Guy “Shocked” If Deshaun Watson Is Not Traded This Spring

February 21st, 2022

Update

To hear a guy with an unfortunate last name who monitors the Texans on a daily basis, if embattled Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson is still with Houston by the NFL draft in late April, it will be a shock.

Jake Asman of ESPN Houston dropped in on Jeff Parles of VSiN Monday to discuss the status of Watson. Asman specifically brought up the Bucs but he doesn’t think Watson is headed to Tampa because the Bucs don’t have a top-15 pick. Houston suits, Asman believes, want a top-15 pick.

Carolina might be the best option, Asman said, because Carolina has the No. 6 overall pick in April’s draft, though he added last year Watson nixed a trade to the Stinking Panthers.

So if Asman had to lay cash today on where Watson will play next, he believes Minnesota is the team to watch. They have the No. 12 pick. You may recall that reportedly, Watson added the Bucs and the Vikings to his wish list of destinations.

Now this isn’t all bad for the Bucs. If the Vikings get Watson, that means Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins is on the block. He would be cheaper to obtain than Watson and there aren’t some three dozen hassles with women hanging over his head, and like Watson he has won one playoff game.

You can see and hear Asman’s full breakdown of where Watson currently stands with Houston in the VSiN video below.

If the Bucs really wanted them could they not trade up into the 1st 15? I imagine it would cost them their 2nd rounder as well…

  2. xdptoddx Says:

You know Rick Stroud’s headline if this actually happens and Cousins comes to Tampa will be “You Like That!”

  3. Anonymous Says:

Can the Bucs afford his salary? didnt he just get a massive extension a year or 2 ago? he’s a heel of a talent and if he clears his personal stuff i’d be glad to have him but i dont think they can afford his salary. any thoughts???

  4. BFFL Says:

In my opinion there is too much evidence corroborating the sexual assault claims which means Watson has very little trade value

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

three dozen hassles with women hanging over his head

Joe, now let’s be fair…..22 is closer to two dozen…….the sleazy pervert deserves some slack here….

  6. Bqen green Says:

It makes sense. Besides the lack of a top 15 pick, with Watson on the bucs, any future picks will be watered down. Cousins is interesting, not sure he’s a winner though. He be better than anything y’all have currently. Depending on what happens in FA, the bucs could do worse..

  7. Joe Says:

If the Bucs really wanted them could they not trade up into the 1st 15? I imagine it would cost them their 2nd rounder as well…

In theory, yes. But it would be a whole lot cheaper to trade directly with Houston. To find a trade partner in top-15 (they would have to be good with going from +15-27) would be a significantly steep cost.

Watson ***might*** be had for two first round picks (remember he holds right of refusal so Houston might not be as greedy). To move up from 27 to +15, it would cost *at least* two first round picks.

  8. Ash Says:

Regardless of what the Texans want Watson has a no trade clause so he has to approve any trade so he may be had for less not to mention all the time he has been off factoring in. If they really want to rid themselves of still having to pay him to not play they might have to expand what they are willing to trade him for.

You left out the key word. “Some.”

  10. Beeej Says:

I wouldn’t be opposed to having Cousins if they tore up his contract and started anew

  11. firethecannons Says:

Get Trask NFL ready all off season and roll with that–Watson is not going to happen and Trask=Cousins at this point. Lose some in FA and roll with that–too stupid mortgage our future for garbage quarterbacks that sucked for their own team like Cousins–stop!

  12. Buc92’ Says:

Deshaun controls it all, the best offer may not be the team he wants to play for , forcing the Texans to settle for OUR offer. He clearly loves arians & wants to be here !

    GoBucs!

  13. Posey99 Says:

If I was Watson, Cousins or Wentz… Tampa would be my top destination. oline, receivers (especially if they sign or tag Godwin), solid defense, good weather, no state income tax, beaches, and a great coaching staff.

If I was Jason Licht I’d wait as long as possible on Watson. Same with Cousins, I don’t think many Teams are going to want Cousins current contact for 1 year and give up picks. Both would have to be restructured contracts. Wentz still makes the most sense to me.

Not to nitpick Joe…..but your use of some was followed by a specific amount

    Nevertheless….we get your point….it’s a lot of hassles…not just a few.

Some Definition: an unspecified number or amount of people or things.
“here are some of our suggestions”

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What? Watson nixed a trade to Carolina?…..a chance to be near all those supportive Clemson fans and to redeem himself in the Bible Belt?

Probably checked the absence of massage parlors.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Ash

Incorrect, Watson has a no trade contract.

Watson has control over where he plays next because he is one of 11 NFL players with a no-trade clause. … “Club shall not be permitted to trade Player’s Contract to any other Club in the NFL during the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025 NFL League Years without Player’s prior written consent.”

  17. Its a Bucs Life Says:

I can’t see the Bucs trading for Watson, knowing how the NFL hates us he’d be suspended for the year and we’d have to suffer through the Gabbert show for a year before we even see Watson suit up

  18. allbuccedup Says:

If Watson goes to the Vikings they are going to need draft picks trade for Cousins and young guard Ezra Cleveland offer then our 2nd round pick this year and 3rd in 2023.

  19. Craig Says:

I would much prefer Cousins to Watson, but I think Trask has a higher potential than Cousins.

Certainly, his potential per dollar is higher, and that may be the defining test; field a good team or deal for a QB. The salary cap is what makes or breaks this season.

  20. Eric Says:

No replacing the GOAT but Watson is a legit dual threat.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

After all is said & done…..Licht will make every effort to find a top-tier QB only to fall short. I am quite convinced we will end up with Gabbert & Trask (in that order)
Trask will backup Gabbert and be waiting in the wings if Gabbert fails and he might. This will be the best team Gabbert ever quarterbacked.

  22. DoooshLaRue Says:

Asman is a name that we could all get behind Joe.

    How is that unfortunate?
    😉

  23. Its a Bucs Life Says:

I just don’t see the Bucs being lucky enough to land Watson, Rodgers, Wilson, Cousins, Carr, Murray or another QB who is looking to leave.

Our franchise is not gonna have two great QB’s that type of luck is only for certain franchise’s. Not ones run by a semi retired head coach who is too dumb to placate to the GOAT

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

I still think we can make the Watson thing happen. Our late rd 1st pick this yr and our late rd 1st pick next yr. Throw in Brate. Make it happen Licht!

  25. 1sparkybuc Says:

Save our draft picks to build a team around Trask. He knows the system. If Watson had one or two accusers like Jameis did, I’d say give him the benefit of the doubt. He’s got 22 that we know about. There could be more. They say where there’s smoke there’s fire. We’re looking at a blazing inferno. The compensation is too much. The contract astronomical, plus Brady’s dead money. We need to fill holes on this team, not create more of them. Build a team that Brady wants to be a part of again.

  26. SB Says:

When it is all said and done I think Trask will be our QB. It allows us to keep key cogs and go a bit crazy in FA.

  27. Its a Bucs Life Says:

Licht will swing big and miss on Rodgers (Pack won’t trade him in the NFC), Seattle keeps Russ, Carr stays in Vegas, lovie hates Tampa and won’t trade him to us, Murray gets a contract and stays with AZ and the Bucs settle for Wentz.

Wentz and Trask will fight for the starters job in camp

  28. New England Patriots Fan Says:

    Teams wanting a new QB:

Miami Dolphins (want to move from Tua) New York Jets, Cleveland Browns(don’t want to pay Mayfield) Pittsburgh Steelers Houston Texans Indianapolis Colts (Cutting Wentz) Tennessee Titans( Upgrade at QB away from SB) Denver Broncos

New York Giants Philadelphia Eagles(already want to upgrade) Washington Football Team Detroit Lions Green Bay Packers (If Rodgers leaves) Minnesota Vikings (If Cousins traded) Atlanta Falcons (may trade Ryan) Carolina Panthers New Orleans Saints Tampa Bay Buccaneers Arizona Cardinals (if Murray forces a trade) San Francisco 49ers (If Rodgers or Brady will play)

    Available QBs:

Wentz, Cousins, Jimmy G, Watson, Jameis, Mayfeild, Darnold, Fitz, Newton maybe Murray or Rodgers.

Wilson is getting paid and so is Carr.

The demand for a QB is so high the Watson and Rodgers situations will be determined very soon.

And them the secondary options like Cousins, Wentz, Jimmy etc will find teams once teams know they can’t get Rodgers and Watson.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I wonder if all of these who scream “innocent until proven guilty” are the same ones who are quick to claim BA ran TB off…..without even a shred of real evidence. Anonymous sources…..not one player or coach on record….and certainly not TB….

    Just wondering….

  30. Iron-Wombat Says:

The same portion of the fanbase that hated winston is going to love the fact that watson has 24 more accusers.
The bigger headache for the bucs would be what if watson gets suspended after you trade for him? that’s why i think he’s a non factor. Dude would have to be cleared by the league ahead of time.
the current QB’s on the roster are not good.
the draft this year is pretty poor.
So it’s trade for an established QB, the window for another superbowl is still open but maybe not much longer.

  31. Eric Says:

Arians probably doesn’t realize that our goober fan base just HATES coaches that win the super bowl with the bucs.

  32. catcard202 Says:

I cannot see the FO making a deal for Watson…Though I would not hate it if they rolled the dice.

    No bisk it, no biscuit!

  33. BillyBucco Says:

If the Glazers are ever going to go out a limb with a BIG DEAL, it would be the year after Brady retired from the Bucs. Let that sink in.

I’m pretty sure they are happy with the last gamble they made.
And what coach out there isn’t thinking maybe a good veteran on a new team is the way to go???

If they WANT Watson, I believe they can and will go get him.
I truly believe Arians sees a window, and it might not close for several years with this coaching staff.

He could coach 2 more vets at this rate.

  34. Greg Says:

Watson will get suspended if not in jail. Why waste time on this clown. Give up your arm and leg to get wb that’s gonna b suspend. So trask is gonna get us to playoffs after Watson suspension and win Super Bowl or is it gonna be get to playoff and then suspended. I would take cousins before I would go that route. We honestly would b better off signing Winston back as free agent. Spending less cash and seeing what he has while also signing some of our core players back. That makes more sense to me. I mean look grapalo got 9ers into playoffs but it was mainly the defense. Works if he cuts down turnovers and we know he’s watch video of how Brady has worked inside the offense. I mean right now we’re screwed anyways wo QB. We drafted him he’s free agent and he can throw the ball. Already been in offense so what would we loose? If he comes n and works good ur works and if he turns ball over let’s see what trask has

  35. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

it’s not an unfortunate name. i in fact identify as such

  36. Buc4evr Says:

Doesn’t matter if the Bucs have the 15th pick or not, Darcie isn’t going to let a guy with 22 women claiming he assaulting them become the face of the Bucs. The optics of such a trade would be horrible, especially if it goes to multiple trials and the NFL of course would suspend him forever. The guy is radioactive and The Texans will struggle to trade him to anyone. Bridgewater or Wentz will probably be the best the Bucs can do. Maybe even Jameis, God forbid.

  37. acey Says:

Maybe we should try to pick up Baker on a one year prove-it if the Browns don’t keep him? Honestly, anything other than Watson is a better option.

  38. New England Patriots Fan Says:

As person whom has read a lot into the Watson story, it is bad, he is not high character guy and with the number of accusers and details some have shared he is not getting some kind of clearing of all any wrongdoing. But it also won’t go to court he will settle.

He will settle but two of these women may deserve more than 100k if what is accused is true and it was a nonconsensual act as it went way beyond repeated rub n tug suggestions, nudity or moving a lady’s hand.

Search the ABCnews March 2021 article “Deshaun Watson accusers: A timeline of numerous lawsuits against Houston Texans quarterback”

It details each accusation, two are pretty graphic if nonconsensual. A number of the women state they have texts or IG messaging to corroborate apologies, request for NDA and various circumstantial evidence displaying they did not consensually partake and complained to colleagues friends after about it prior to lawsuit starting.

What is clear at this point is some if not all the accusations have some merit, as in that the massages took place, and something occurred, but that can be debated if it was beyond a nude massage or hand grazing a groin etc..

If he did what they accused him of etc he should’ve settled last year spring. Especially as it shows repeated behaviour not just a one off scammer looking for money with no other masseuse ever having an issue.

Some of the accusers state they have phone messaging and messages from him apologizing for inappropriate behaviour, he at least went way beyond the line a few times if the text and IG history pans out to be real. If it’s all fake it would be one hell of a scam, find all these people make fake messages and fake complaints all to get 100k which the lawyer will take 35%.

If they are all completely lying than Deshaun would be the most unlucky guy who just used at least 22 different massage girls for some reason instead of sticking with 3-4 people over 1 year period from March 30th 2020 to March 5th, 2021.

Once again this hasn’t gone to court and I don’t think ever will if Watson settles it will be over and I think they are looking for adequate compensation.

I’m just not sure why he just didn’t hire massage therepist whom specializes in what he wanted instead of asking strangers to do things they didn’t want to do the first session he meets them.

  39. Bqen green Says:

NEPF, if the plaintiffs have all this evidence, why hasn’t he been charged criminally? Ben understands it’s very hard to prove a she said he said, but if they’ve got all this evidence, he should be charged. This remains very largely a civil matter, with a whole different burden of proof. If he’s so guilty, why hasn’t he settled?

  40. steele Says:

Ass Man states the obvious. DeMan will be traded. Texans don’t want his baggage or his rap sheet.

  41. Robert Says:

Clearly this guy is a moron. Cousins has a $45 million cap hit since his salary is fully guaranteed. Combine that with the $35 million salary for Watson, and the fact the Vikings are already over the cap and it isnt going to happen. Vet your stories Joe this is useless dribble.
