Gamblers Set Odds On Deshaun Watson Playing For Bucs In 2022

February 17th, 2022

Odds on Deshaun Watson in Tampa.

The Bucs and Deshaun Watson may interest those who like dealing with their short-term investment broker.

Over at Sportsline.com, Matt Severance types that the key to the Bucs making a pitch for Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson is the Bucs’ old (?) quarterback Tom Brady.

In short, Severance notes, how patient and how long can the Bucs hold out waiting for Brady to quit waffling until the Bucs are forced to pull the trigger on Watson?

The Tampa Bay situation all comes down to how long the Bucs wait on whether Tom Brady changes his mind, and Brady already has not ruled out returning – he just may not want to with Tampa. The Bucs own the 27th overall pick in this year’s draft, and that’s not close to enough to get Watson. Tampa Bay has also been linked to the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson. The Bucs may be looking at a rebuild with 22 free agents.

Now wouldn’t that be the sh!ts if the Bucs trade for Watson and then Brady texts Licht and informs him he’s ready to come back? Holy flirkingschmidt!

As much of heresy as this may seem, if the Bucs have a real shot at landing Watson, they have to go get him. No way he’s better than Brady but Watson can be the Bucs’ quarterback until the next decade. Brady maybe has one year left — if he decides to play.

But damn, what a pinch that would leave the Bucs in if they had Watson and then Brady decides to return.

Oh, and the odds of Watson on the Bucs roster Week 1 of the 2022 season? That would be +1200.

    No thanks.
    Rogers yes.
    Watson no.

  2. Swampbuc Says:

Licht and BA need to know from Brady – if he wants to come back but it’s not the Bucs, specifically why (besides Bowels collapse, that’s obvious). Lay out the details, and the fix the problems. Commit to fixing the problems, what, how, by when, how measured. Also, let Brady know that he becomes a competitor if he goes to another team, therefore the asking price for his rights will be very steep.

Brady had always had the open relationship with the coaches and management. Why should that stop now? And if it has stopped, why? Must be addressed and not swept under the rugs or left for social media.

If Gizella wants to romp around the streets of the tenderloin district in SF sporting spurs and mouthbit then it better be because Licht got Kittle or Samuel, plus Jimmy Jockitch and their number 1 pick.

The eventual resolution to Watson’s legal case needs to conclude before the consideration of trading for him. I think he’s a darn good Qb that could be good for a long time. This would be a perfect landing spot for success. Here’s hoping that his legal situation turns out to not be as rough as it seems. I believe everybody deserves an opportunity to better themselves and learn from their mistakes but 20+ women? Ooof. That’s tough

  4. Onetrickpony Says:

I dont know what will happen but hope it isn’t Watson ,Rodgers and a couple of others

  5. alaskabuc Says:

Trade for Watson. Brady comes out of retirement just after OTAs to fill in for Watson for the 2022 season, because the NFL suspends him 16 games. Brady win’s us another title, Watson takes over in 2023 for the next decade. Somehow behind the scenes, Licht works some paycheck magic to make it happen and the Bucs establish themselves as the new perennial powers.

  6. Swampbuc Says:

Alaska that is the ultimate beautiful scenario. Crazy enough, it has a small chance to work. Licht and BA need to get to the bottom of the rumors about Tom’s disaffections (and they all might really be the Horsefaced Commandant’s disaffections). But – they have to give up a ton to get Watson, and not sure about his cap impact during suspension. Brady might look at the sacrifices made to get a suspended Watson and say no. So it might be a lovely fantasy and nothing more.

  7. David Says:

no offense but anybody who would take Rodgers over Watson or most other quarterbacks at this point in his career are clueless about football. What makes Brady great is leadership. Aaron Rodgers has none. Zero. Nada. He’s an arrogant, condescending, prima donna who has had previous teammates and coaches say he’s never met a situation he can’t blame on someone else.

    No thanks

  8. alaskabuc Says:

Swamp, I’m a Bucs fan, so traditionally speaking, most of my offseason hopes have been nothing but fantasies over the years🤣

  9. Swampbuc Says:

With you there Alaska. Too bad the fantasies can’t be about some hottie showing up at my or your hotel room with fine imbibements and a proper game plan (unlike Bowels).

  10. catcard202 Says:

Realistically, the Bucs FO needs to know TB12’s final 2022 decision by 01MAR, to give the team a couple weeks time to seriously consider UFA options or trade targets they’d like to pursue. (If any)

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

No way the Bucs move on Watson without consulting Brady. So the crazy scenario of having both to the Bucs is folly at best. This whole “wait and see” is thing from Tom is not about a potential return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Whatever conditions Brady wants for a return to Tampa would be met by Licht and the Bucs to get him to return. He is not mulling a return *here*. He is pondering playing for another team that has the same shot at a title as the 2020 Bucs did and if that is even a play, or to stay retired.

I’m not sure if I want Watson here given his baggage, but if the Bucs can pull the trigger on him, they better do it while they can. Deshaun Watson was my favorite example to give the Jameis Mob of how a good QB can overcome pressure on the pocket, unlike Jameis could. Joe Burrow is now another great example.

I’d rather have Tom back, but I don’t see a scenario with him playing in the pewter and red (or the creamsicle game we were robbed of seeing him play) ever again. Whether it’s the coaches, atmosphere, salary cap hell, aging players, numerous free agents or all of the above Brady does not want a piece of Tampa this year.

    watson = smokescreen

    #probably

  13. steele Says:

It is not Brady’s MO to suddenly become a passive-aggressive diva who simmers on resentments and manipulations. If there are problems, he has typically not been one to keep quiet. If it hasn’t already happened between Licht and Brady, there needs to be a complete meeting of the minds and airing of grievances. Brady doesn’t need to create more leverage. Licht will do whatever TB12 wants, to the extent it can get done. If he wants to be traded, he needs to say so as well.
If he’s simply retired, that’s fine, but he must clarify all of this once and for all.

  14. steele Says:

I will not support this team if a thug like Watson becomes the face of the franchise. I don’t like him, football-wise or off-field wise.

  15. steele Says:

I stand by my view that Brady will not go to the 49ers for many reasons. The 49ers are absolutely “wowed” and “enamored with Trey Lance, their all-in investment. And Brady would have to learn a new offense, which he does not want to do.

But additionally, I don’t think Brady and Shanahan can work together. Two years ago, when the possibility of Brady to SF was actually viable, Brady and Shanahan clashed in their free agent interview. Reported by the Felger and Massorotti Show, Shanahan lectured Brady about situational football. At which point Brady laughed and pointedly reviewed Shanahan’s losing situational plays during the Patriots comeback win against Atlanta. The insecure Shanahan did not take it well. So that was that.

In addition, in another show (a jocular LeBron James show with Draymond Green and others) a while back, Brady seemed to have taken offense that SF chose Garoppolo over him. “They signed THIS M–F— instead of me?”

As for the other rumor going around, that Brady has signed a one-day contract to retire as a Patriot, it is false.

  16. Cleanhouse Says:

Team has no business signing a guy with 22 unwanted rub n tug allegations- unless they reinstate Jon Gruden in the ring of honor where he belongs.

  17. Hodad Says:

Blaine Gabbert will open the season. Let it sink in. get use to it.

  18. Gerinda Says:

Brady is not coming back, if he does come back it won’t be the bucs!

  19. WillieG Says:

Just say no to sex offenders!

  20. Oneilbuc Says:

Steel . You can leave right now for all I care lol 😆 😂!! I watch sports for entertainment not to see who’s a so call good person because that doesn’t exist in the world and it never was a good person who ever lived in the world but 1 and His name is Jesus and He is God . Watson was accused of making advances to those women just like every man on this site. If it was rape he would be in jail dummie they couldn’t even press charges against him . Stop with all this moral talk because Brady got caught cheating and the Patriots has been cheating most of the time Brady was the quarterback but you look over that right ?? Big Ben was called out for rape twice and that’s ok to you to huh?? Lol 😆 🤣 come Bucs sign Watson don’t listen to self righteous clowns who has done the same thing to women just like every man who ain’t gay has made advances at women!!

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

Once Bucs secure a QB Brady will get released. A deal will be worked out. The NFL station played the Bucs/Rams playoff game early this morning it was difficult to hold back the tears. DR, FYI on the 20yd pass to Kupp before the dagger, Bowles rushed 4 and played man to man. SMB got right up on Kupp at the line (why, I have no idea) and Kupp blew right by him and spun him around. As usual the DB’s (all but Winfield) do not know how to tackle so Edward’s let Kupp get out of bounds. Here’s the kicker, on 1st down on that series Stafford got flushed out and almost fumbled. At 35 sec, Bowles rushes 4, why not 3? Who knows. 20yd gain. Ball is on Rams 44, no where near FG range. It appeared Rams did a quick snap while Bucs were setting up for their blitz, NO ONE not even Suh got near him, Kupp blew right by the blitzing corner, game over. No matter how many times I rehash this, 100% Bowles fault, they caught him sleeping or dreaming about his never gone to be dream job. Fire his arse. Oh by the way, Stafford beat his blitzes ALL game.

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I have always wondered if DeShaun Watson is fond of Crab Legs ?
Asking for a friend, of course!

  23. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Deshaun Watson, coverage by media now has become positive recently, the NFL is desperate to have a successful long term African American QB and HC coach win a SB ASAP. it’s been awhile since Wilson and Tomlin won a decade ago.

The NFL for some reason has always hated Lamar so I just never see them letting him win a SB.

The NFL is not a fair organization, and has very little morals, their central goal keeping American men entertained so they don’t realize how bad their countries declined, followed by making money, and being a face for military and faux corporate propaganda. Deshaun Watson will play most if not all the 2022 season. The NFL spoke will all parties involved 1.5y ago, they know what happened and are waiting for a better settlement agreement. It has to be something where there is full confidentiality as the NFL won’t want fans to know the true story as then a longer suspension will have to occur. Deshaun is a very talented and can definitely get to the playoffs. He will cost 2 1st to trade. If he’s if the settlement clears and he’s not suspended more than a few games, his trade value goes up only because of his age.

As I’ve noted before the QB talent is so low in the NFL, specifically the NFL you just need to out play Stafford Wilson and Dak to get to a SB in the NFC with Rodgers going AFC. The NFC is so weak as a conference now, there isn’t one good young QB and all the old legends are gone.

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

To hell with Brady returning. Let him do so for a yr with another team. Knock it off, He ain’t comin back. Go get Watson. He will play for another decade or so.

  25. Cobraboy Says:

Not a chance in hell the Bucs go after Watson without knowing precisely what Brady’s plans are.

AFAIK, Brady has NOT submitted official retirement documents to the NFL, so he is NOT “retired” despite what people say.

Right now it’s all Kabuki Theater.

Gonna be a LOT of bullspit tossed around from now until the new league year. Ignore 99% of it.

  26. View from 132 Says:

+1 for Kabuki Theater reference Cobraboy.

Go get Watson. He’s a pervert, but a lot of perverts are in the Hall of Fame.

  27. Listnfrmafar Says:

So oneilbucyall you force women to have oral? Don’t include me in your sick scenarios. Ya everyone on the site has done what Watson has? If that were true the majority of those that post on this site couldn’t afford the legal counsel and would be praying they don’t drop the soap in the shower.

  28. TBD Says:

Nice nod to Chris Thomas on the “holy flirkingschmidt”, Joe.

Very cool. Not lost on me. Been listening to TB sports radio for 30 years.

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Listnfrmafar . He was never accused of forcing a woman to do anything that’s call rape and he will be in jail right now. You must be apart of the me to movement who only went after rich men . Some of those cases were true but I believe most of them were just money grabers!!

  30. Swampbuc Says:

Cleanse your ways, people. Stop criticizing the team and one another. Let Jason take the wheel. God hated the Bucs fir yielding to the temptations of the short term. Lovie Smith had all the answers – the conspiracies all coalesced and he was fired. Then all the cussing, and recently the heinous additions of thugs and Hollywood aristocrats.

It’s time to remember who Tamp Bay Buccaneers are.

A team of Buccaneer men, women, children, wives, husbands, fathers, mothers, transgender hopefuls, canine and equestrian curious, and “others.”

Never disrespect any of these or other important social sub-groups. It’s not funny. It’s serious.

So in the future, no attempts at poking fun at anyone, even if they’ve seemingly ruined the fortunes of the Bucs. They know better, not you.

I am so thankful my light has been lit. And, just now, God told me, Tebow is a Buccaneer.

    Grace! Praise!
