Why Adam Schein Believes Tom Brady Is Done

January 26th, 2022

Chimes in on Tom Brady.

So Tom Brady has everyone’s head spinning.

Even Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said last week when asked about the Brady retirement chatter that he would be “shocked” if it happened.

That’s how much of a curveball Brady has thrown people.

Popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein of CBS Sports took to his show “Time to Schein” to try to piece together what Brady is going to do. Schein believes Brady has packed it in.

Why? Schein gives several reasons including Brady being unable to win the Super Bowl again with the Bucs.

“Look, we are all selfish. I want to watch Tom Brady,” Schein said. “I want to watch history, the greatest of all time. But Tom Brady has nothing else to prove.

“Look, the Bucs are not winning the Super Bowl next year. He already has seven.”

Joe doesn’t buy that. How do we know the Bucs won’t win the Super Bowl? To Joe, that’s lazy talk.

A year ago did Schein expect the Bengals to be one win away from a Super Bowl? The 49ers? It’s not like next year the Bucs will plunge back to the days of the Lost Decade.

But yeah, that could happen, Joe guesses, if Brady retires. If Brady retires, good luck trying to keep Playoff Lenny, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski and perhaps Ryan Jensen.

You can see Schein’s full take in the CBS Sports Network video below.

  1. Cannon Says:

Why wouldn’t the Bucs win the Super Bowl next season? They were one badly called defensive play away from going into overtime.

We’ll offload our dead weight (AB, OJ, etc…) and restock with fresh talent.

  2. Your Mom Says:

If Brady retires and the Bucs trade for Russell Wilson or even greasy Aaron Rodgers, I imagine players would want to stay.

  3. Perimeter Blocker Says:

A QB with a resume of success is essential. If that is not in place we will be building… as painful as that sounds…

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

It is gonna be interesting to watch how this all plays out with Brady.

  5. LVMYBUCS Says:

He is a idiot anyone who tries to predict next year’s super bowl teams this far out is just stupid. Hey how bout this look in the mirror and ask urself why people laugh at me everytime they see me.

  6. Robert Says:

we are in full rebuild mode guys!

whether they sign or not JPP, Suh (less so), Shaq. Jensen, D Smith, David, Gronk etc, etc

father time is catching up with them all and they are not getting any cheaper.

  7. New England Patriots Fan Says:

The primary reason this team succeeded in 2021, was TB, CG, ME, RG, AB, Lenny, and 3 o-linemen. It was completely an offensively driven team and a easy schedule.

The schedule is horrible for 2022, AB is gone, Lenny and CG will have to be paid a lot to stay, RG is awesome but he felt really old this season almost 50/50 on if he dominated or did nothing in a game. Coaching was a major issue in team chemistry (multiple players careers were impacted by the AB insanity), and the defence and special teams were average to weak considering the impact the offence has on each game.

To be a SB contender, this team would need to do a LA Rams and mortgage next few years to get a better defence, new coordinators, and replace the AB role, and find a younger Gronk, and keep CG and Lenny or upgrade at RB and keep the line intact.

  8. tampabayallday Says:

    long nose

  9. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Brady will be back. It just left a very sour taste in his mouth to retire from those circumstance.

  10. SufferingSince76 Says:

Pay Jensen so he doesn’t want to go. The Bucs need his attitude.

  11. iamrhenry Says:

You can add in AB’s continuing distraction “gonna sue the Bucs” to reasons Brady might take a pass.

  12. ModHairKen Says:

A year ago, KC was the media darling, Mahomes was going to win 15 Super Bowls, yada yada yada. Then they had injuries. Boom! Bucs beat them.

This year, “Brady is going to play to 100 years old, Bucs will win 5 Super Bowls in a row,” etc. Then Godwin, Fourtnette, JPP, Shaq, Wirfs, Jensen, David, virtually every DB, and a bunch of others get hurt.

Now, everyone is off the Bucs bandwagon. You know who knows if they can rebound next year? Tom Brady. I will agree he ain’t going to come back for 10-7 and a first round loss. If he comes back, it is because he believes they can win it all. If he retires, it does not mean they could not have won it all, it just means he’s satisfied and ready for the next segment of his life.

Could this team, with Godwin, Fournette, Suh, a healthy JPP and others compete next year with Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers? Undoubtedly. With Gabbert or Trask? No way in hell.

Also, whatever anyone may think of Leftwich, they can win with Clyde as OC or another OC.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Brady said he’ll decide in about a month or so.

Too early to be speculating about it now imo.

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

    Incoming, KABOOM!!!

  15. D-Rome Says:

How do we know the Bucs won’t win the Super Bowl?

The odds are heavily stacked against Jason Licht. It’s rare when a GM has two Super Bowls in them. The same team can’t come back so now we’re left hoping Jason Licht can find another diamond in the rough on defense to play along side Shaq Barrett. Not sure if Joe Tryon will be that guy. The team has a bunch of UFAs heading into this season. They need a DT, CB, RB (at least 2), WR, C, TE (at least 2). The team may need a new offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator (or both).

The real shame of it all is that I really believed this team when healthy could have won another Super Bowl.

  16. Francisco Guzman Says:

This guy is a clown! What haters want is for the guy to retire so he won’t win anymore .😂😂

  17. notserp Says:

Personally I think it’s a perfect opportunity for Brady to go out. He did more for this franchise in 2 years than almost any player in sports has ever done for an organization. It was a huge success, he owns every record, and the Bucs still have alot of good pieces to move forward with. Kyle Trask isnt the future, and that was a wasted pick that could’ve gone towards a depth piece. With how Jason Licht drafts, odds are that pick couldve been an impact player. I dont ever want to see this team draft a QB or a kicker ever again. That being said, if Brady retires and all else fails, bring back Jameis on a team friendly two year deal. He’s now had his reality check by sitting unsigned and watching his former team win a super bowl without him.

  18. Bobby M. Says:

Brady is the easiest conversation to create content. I dont make much of it.

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Brady has absolutely nothing else to prove. If I were him I’d ride off into the sunset while all my body parts were still in tact.

  20. Oxycodoms Says:

I remember after last years super bowl giselle making a comment what more is there to prove. Brady looks like hes caving in to the nagging. If bucs won this year brady couldve said i have to go for 3 in a row.

  21. Alanbucsfan Says:

Rabbi Glickman from Seinfeld has a new gig…

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Don’t care what YOU THINK Brady will do.

I’m thinking of the entire team if he does go, especially at QB. People are talking too much about Russel Wilson.

Licht and the Bucs have a great front office. If Bowles and Leftwich leave, I say scrap the entire coaching and start from scratch. BA says BL was the one who ran the offense and Arians didn’t do d!ck. I hate to say it but bring Sean Payton out of retirement now (just threw up in my mouth a bit).

  23. Buc4evr Says:

Brady and Gronk are just sitting back and enjoying all the media attention. Adam Schein doesn’t know any more than the rest of us. Probably only BA and Licht have an idea what Brady may do.

  24. Marine Buc Says:

TB12 already knows what he is going to do. The longer it takes to make an announcement the more likely it is he will stay in Tampa for one more season.

I would think if TB12 is going to retire he will let the Bucs org know sooner rather than later because our entire off season plan revolves around that decision.

  25. SOEbuc Says:

And did this azz clown say Bengals would be in the AFC Championship this year when he says the Bucs won’t win the Super Bowl next year???

  26. SOEbuc Says:

    Marine Buc

Agreed. Would at least think franchise knows his decision already.

  27. allbuccedup Says:

Brady retires a lot of fans go get Wilson or Rodgers. Wellllll Wilson will cost 35 mil a year and Rodgers makes only 26 mil but he is unvaccinated so Brown got a phoney card saying hes vaccinated so Rodgers didn’t have to. So could be an issue!

  28. SlyPirate Says:

    A TOTALLY DIFFERENT ATTITUDE …

Everyone who is worried about this person and that person leaving … you got it backwards.

Be happy they were here. Arians, TB12, Lenny, and even AB. These were miracle signings that never should have happened.

We finished an amazing 2 years. Sit back, relax, enjoy what we had, and enjoy what’s to come.

  29. Biff Barker Says:

I don’t think TB has his mind made up yet. Unless he already promised his wife/family he’s done.

  30. allbuccedup Says:

Don’t know if Bradys leaving but it looks like Lefty is the Jags new head coach.

  31. captivajim Says:

Brady had a dam good yr; 43 TD’s ,> 5300yrds passing ,etc.. With 7 rings , only QB to win SB on an AFC and NFC team,,etc.

Unlike what happen to of a LOT of great QB’s–he still played at very hi level; unlike Peyton , Eli, Unitas, Namath , Farve , Joe Montana, Romo, & Alex Smith -who got crippled for life

Personally for himself–He can , & should walk away with NO regrets

  32. Listnfrmafar Says:

If any of you followed Brady’s career, the dissention between Brady & Belichick was when Belichick refused to play Butler in the Eagles SB; which undoubtedly cost them the game. When coaches fail Brady bales. Same in Tampa.

  33. D-Rome Says:

I agree SlyPirate. If this is it for Brady I would celebrate his retirement, the two years he was here, and the lasting impact he’ll have on this franchise.

  34. captivajim Says:

    Listnfrmafar is spot on …

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Any commentator that states that the team Tom Brady leads will not win a Superbowl is blowing smoke…..
Hoe does he know what kind of team the Bucs will field next year?

Likely to have Gronk, Lenny, Evans…….that’s a pretty good start.

  36. Erick Says:

Brady wants Arians out, it’s that simple.

  37. Iamabuc Says:

As far as getting a new FA Qb: I’ll say yes to Rusell Wilson, and No to “Karen” Cabron Rogers.

  38. D-Rome Says:

Brady wants Arians out, it’s that simple.

Where are you getting this from? I ask because this isn’t the first time I’ve heard this over the past few days. I know some guys at 98.5 in Boston radio were saying this but as far as I knew that was completely fabricated and unsubstantiated. I’d only believe it if Scott Zolak said it.

  39. SufferingSince76 Says:

    D-Rome, I would suspect a rear orifice.

  40. Hodad Says:

Brady during the Jim Gray interview told Jim he didn’t want to do a farewell tour. Didn’t want that kind of attention, or distraction. If that’s true the calculating Brady would say that I want to play until I’m 45, than walk away at 44. No farewell tour that way. Makes me think he ain’t coming back chief.

  41. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Everyone except our opponents wants Brady to stay…….I guess you could say that’s the best time for him to leave……I just don’t think it’s now…..hope I’m right.

If he leaves, he brought us a SB win and a trip to a division playoff….a comeback from 27-3…..he did his part & I wish him well.

  42. Erick Says:

    Sufferingsince76,

Open your eyes. The clues are all in front of you

  43. Ron says Says:

Hate to see Brady leave but sure glad our franchise had a chance to experience his greatness. the seed in him now is not from the media but from inside and I wish him well. He for the most part has his health and a legacy that will be hard to match, it would be nice if he wanted to coach for our franchise in some manner and ween away from the game slowly, but he has earned the right to make this decision unchallenged. Hope him and his family all the happiness and the same goes for Gronk.

  44. Cobraboy Says:

    Listn: bollocks.

The rift came when Belichick threw Alex Guerrero out of the Pat’s facilities and forbade Pat’s players from seeking therapy with him.

Where do you knuckleheads come up with that garbage?

  45. Listnfrmafar Says:

Cobraboy, after the Eagles game Belichick lost his locker room. Even Hightower defended Butler. Belichick has always preached do your job and anything it takes to win, he let them down. He benched a CB that played 98% of the snaps that season because he had an argument with Patricia. Yes the Gurerro issue was a point of contention.

  47. steele Says:

Schein is an unfortunate example of hot MSM sports mediots who are not deeply informed or insightful, and just spewing hot takes and speculation back and forth until something actually happens.

Brady doesn’t care what the number is. If he thinks he has another SB within reach, he wants it. He is insatiable about playing the game and being part of a great team, win or lose, and even more insatiable about winning the ultimate prize. He must now weigh all that with all of the realities he faces.
