“We’re Going To Score Points”

January 15th, 2022

It’s all about points.

It’s hard to believe a team that suffered so many injuries to key offensive personnel is still standing in the middle of January.

But here we are with the Bucs about to play their first home playoff game since January 2008. (Joe gets a lot of flack for typing that last sentence. But no, the Super Bowl was not a home game. It was located in the Bucs’ stadium but it was not a home game. Otherwise, it would have been full of Bucs fans, the Bucs could have fired their cannons — the NFL forbade that — and the Bucs wouldn’t have had to endure the stolen Florida State Warchant fight song playing in their stadium every time the Chiefs had the ball. Even Mike Evans said it was not a home game. But yes, it was played in Tampa.)

Just think of the absorbed injuries to stars: Chris Godwin (knee), Rob Gronkowski (broken ribs/punctured lung) Playoff Lenny (hamstring) Ronald Jones (ankle) Antonio Brown (head).

Most teams would have crumbled. But not the Bucs. Not the team that Arians has built, along with a mindset he drilled into them.

“I think that’s been our motto since we got here,” Arians said of the focus the Bucs have that allowed them to burrow through the injuries. “We’re going to score points. [We] don’t know who’s going to do it or how we’re going to do it, but we’re going to get points on the board.

“That next-man up philosophy is ingrained in this team and guys down the stretch here have made some great opportunities and made the most of them. I think Tom [Brady] has a much better feel this year than last [year] and once he figures you out, you’re in trouble.”

Yeah, it sure helps to have Mr. Seven Rings, who may be the smartest quarterback ever with a burning desire to be the best. And to think nerds believe all of Brady’s intangibles are both overrated and irrelevant. The nerve! They wouldn’t know a down marker from a goal post!

The great Greg Cosell of NFL Films, one of the best X’s and O’s guys around, broke down how the Bucs are able to score points because of Brady’s sharp mind and eagle eye.

And to think the nerds dismiss this as overrated. Unreal!

He makes it look so easy… Today it will be run and short pass in the wind and rain

  2. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Yes, we will score points, as soon as Brady figures out the defense.

  3. Cobraboy Says:

    Slight correction, Joe:

    Antonio Brown (cranial anal implant)

  4. Cleanhouse Says:

    Go Bucs!

  5. Youngbucs Says:

For people who have the this is a different offense excuse check out Kurt Warner on YouTube. This is a vertical offense and Brady is aggressive the stats say that. But honestly the naked eye sees it if you don’t have a bias.

  6. '79Defense Says:

    Nice summary of AB’s injury.
–Looks like no rain tomorrow, but lots of wind.

  7. Bucfan Says:

Breaking News: “The Bucs will score points”. We will now go back to our regular scheduled programming.

  8. GABucsFan Says:

@Cobraboy – Cranial anal implant – I can’t stop laughing. Best description ever.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We usually score lots of points at Raymond James Stadium

  11. Listnfrmafar Says:

I hate when everyone picks a team in this case.the Bucs to win, it often goes to the players heads. Tommy boy, keep these men humble.

  12. gp Says:

I appreciate this is a story about the offense and it’s production despite key injuries but…..
The defense has been decimated as well. Considering the key losses throughout the season, and I know this is hard to say, but the defense has actually done pretty well.
Struggling with injuries as a team.
Persevering and succeeding as a team!

  13. Beeej Says:

Just read the Bucs had a 129 point total margin of victory at home this year, not too shabby

“Most teams would have crumbled. But not the Bucs. Not the team that Arians has built, along with a mindset he drilled into them.”

Ahem…cough…cough. The “mindset drilling” on this Team, in fact, on the entire Franchise as Arians himself has acknowledged, began the moment that Tom Brady was signed in 2020. The GOAT made EVERY member of this organization want to “level up”, from the groundskeepers, the cafeteria workers, trainers, players AND the coaches. So, please, let’s not put any alternative spin on this, now legendary, from ‘rags to riches’ Cinderella story.

Yes, Jason Licht and Bruce Arians gradually assembled a very high caliber NFL roster, but landing the GOAT/Player-Coach/Player GM (who brought in additional key players and helped shape and land others) was the TRUE stroke of genius AND good fortune responsible for bringing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers THREE games away from a chance to win back to back SBs, the closest thing to immortality for a team in the NFL.

Diminishing, IN ANY WAY, the role that Thomas Patrick Edward Brady, Jr. has played in the legend of the 2020-2021 Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be the REAL travesty in the writing and recounting of this continuing saga. So please leave the “mindset drilling” to the man who has been at it nonstop 24/7/365 for the last twenty years.

    We’re going to score points!

Probably wasn’t thinking about the saints game when he said that

  16. Beeej Says:

Well, we scored points on the FIRST one….

  17. HC Grover Says:

Brady will have a good day. Wind will be West and on the field blocked a lot by the stadium. The storm is going more North and rain will not be too bad. 400 plus yards.

  18. BillyBucco Says:

Yeah my 1st thought was evidently BA has decided to block out the Saints shutout AT HOME.

The only saving grace is it’s hard to all of a sudden run 3 TE sets when you didn’t game plan for that all week and your 2 star receivers get hurt in the 1st quarter.

And don’t forget Godwin got hurt on a nice gain.

    More unlucky than anything.

  19. BringBucsBack Says:

…’Bradys… eagle eye.” Pun intended, Joe?

  20. JGhotier Says:

First paragraph: even more so on Defense too

Only 2 players on the Bucs this year played over 70% of the snaps this year (and both of those missed time too) 🤯

As much as we love Football and want more of it, anyone else starting to see what Brady sees and think the change to 17 games is so ridiculously stupid?!? And that’s not even touching on the new asterisk-ridden “record book”….

Welcome to 20-twenty greed. People, society and their intentions these days have gone so far down the drain lately, its not even funny or object-able. It’s so abhorrent, appalling and distasteful.

  21. JGhotier Says:

Only 2 players on Defense *** played over 70% of the snaps (I should’ve clarified that) ^^^

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

Boo, BRAVO, well written. BA may believe he is the end all but what do you want from a senile old man with apparently short term memory loss.

  23. bucschamp Says:

we need to score points not style points

  24. crazybucs_CL Says:

    @”…“We’re going to score points.”
    ——————
where is the “secret” here!!!??? Scoring points was what brought us here, NOT D.
Scoring point shall be the ONLY thing that can move us to next week….. a lot of points…🧐🤭🧐
BA wants to make TB12 happy….so O can pull the team to the next game….

  25. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Thankfully no team in the playoffs have a defense like Nawleans because we’d be toast

  26. Chuck Ellison Says:

I hate to be the one that says this … But…

How many points did we score against the Saints a few weeks back?

Let’s not get cocky, let’s get ready! Go Bucs!
