Tristan Wirfs Ruled Out; Ryan Jensen Will Play!

January 23rd, 2022

In.

It’s official.

The Bucs will not have to endure a potential horror show today without two starting offensive linemen. Only All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs (high ankle sprain) is out among the Bucs’ offensive starters.

That means it’s go-time for backup veteran tackle Josh Wells.

Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen is salivating on the field as he prepares for the 3 p.m. kickoff.

Go Bucs!

Also inactive today — the fragrant one, cornerback Pierre Desir, receivers Cyril Grayson and Breshad Perriman, quarterbacks Ryan Griffin and Kyle Trask, and running back Ronald Jones.

  1. Jeffbuc Says:

That hurts von Miller is a happy man right now. Gronk better put on his big boy pads today. Because he is going to be are 6th offensive lineman all game to chip Miller

  2. David Says:

Is Cappa going to right tackle with Stinnie at guard? Or is Wells playing because I know he’s not 100% as well.

    LFG

  3. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Get well Tristan as you will be needed in the NFC Championship game and the Superbowl.

    Down goes Stafford!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FIRE THE CANNONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    BUCS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. JGhotier Says:

    Joe,

Why did we even elevate Ryan Griffin for this game? We haven’t all year AND he made him an Inactive anyways….

  5. Francisco Guzman Says:

Too many injuries at wideout. They have Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller as the wideouts after evans. Not ideal. I am really concerned about this offense moving the football today. They can’t get too cute. They will have to challenge down the field. I wonder how they will scheme to move the football.

  6. Francisco Guzman Says:

Jeffbuc they need gronk to make plays as well. The injuries might catch up to this team today. I hope not. At least it’s not Brady’s blind side.

  7. Francisco Guzman Says:

The rams are aggressive on defense. Bucs wideouts have to get aggressive as well.

  8. PassingThru Says:

Bad news, but hardly unexpected. I didn’t ever see how Wirfs could play today, I thought the prospect of Wirfs suiting up was just spin and smoke.

  9. PassingThru Says:

It will be tough for Cappa to play RT. While he’s athletic for a RG, I don’t see him having the lateral quickness to play RT effectively. The Bucs will need to deploy and additional OL or TE to help whoever mans the RT position today.

  10. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Man I was really hoping Grayson could play… The injuries at WR are more troubling than the O-line. Maybe John Brown is ready to contribute? Man, if we win this one it’ll be a huge statement.

  11. PassingThru Says:

It’s sad, but the two of the three positions I advocated prior to the draft weren’t priorities: Developmental OT and CB.

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

They might as well change John Wells name into “Turnstile”

Josh Wells……….screw that….Stick Aaron Stinnie in that spot for God’s sake!!!!

  13. Jeagan1999 Says:

We will miss Wirfs, but expect to see a lot of Gronk and Howard on the right side to help out! That, combined with the fact that Brady is so good at getting the ball out quickly, will help carry the Bucs to victory! Big days from Brate, Evans and Lombardi Lenny. Look for lots of screens toRB’s and TE’s today! Defense steps it up big time today(Devin White will be a wrecking ball!)….Bucs win 30-21!

  14. SPARKY Says:

Why not put a back up lineman on that side at TE and line Gronk on the other side? Or even put a lineman in the backfield on obvious passing downs.

  15. Francisco Guzman Says:

Defense has to win this game for us today. They gotta get a pass rush on stafford.

  16. alvinscissorsharper Says:

I think you’re gonna see John Brown today.

  17. DrunkInYbor Says:

Great coaching staff I’m sure they have a plan. Josh Wells got worked last week.

  18. Mike in LOL Says:

Cappa is in at right tackle and Stinnie in at guard they said a bit ago on the radio

  19. Jerry Says:

It’s going to take a heck of a defensive effort and some luck to win this game. This game has bad news written all over it.

  20. David Says:

I’m not worried about Grayson missing the game. Yes the depth sucks but they brought up John Brown and I’m sure they got a couple things for him worked in by now after two weeks. They have Miller and Darden to do some.
Johnson is the one who needs to step up. There can’t be any drop passes today.

The tight ends will be blocking but Gronk is also going to work the middle of the field quite a bit in my opinion. I expect to see a lot of the RBs in the passing game, Bernard & Fournette.

Tight ends and running backs and Johnson up the middle if they’re playing zone. If they go man on Evans with Ramsey all day then I expect Evans to have a big day. He should win the majority of the one on one battles.

it all comes down to the D line and the O line. The trenches will win or lose this game

  21. Marine Buc Says:

    F…

This is not good… Backup RT Wells is also injured.

TB12 better be getting rid of the ball quickly today. Limit the deep shots because we just won’t be able to hold the line for longer than 2 seconds today.

We also need the running game to succeed if we have any chance at all.

  22. WFT Says:

Wirfs out kills me. All week that’s all I’ve prayed for, that he’d be okay and play. I can’t believe he’s not playing. Just about the worst news possible.

  23. Caleb Says:

Wirfs needs a nickname like “the mountain” or something.. Kid is immoveable when healthy.
    Hope he heals up quick.

I still trust Tom Brady to not crack under pressure, I think we all know the pressure is on our reserve wideouts to show up and consistently make the cacthes. Brady will speed up his internal clock.

  24. David Says:

    JOE

Does this mean the other questionable’s are good to go?
    JPP and SMB?

  25. Richard Dickson Says:

It’s also possible they’ve worked in a lot of quick, short stuff to neutralize the Rams pass rush.

  26. BucsFan81 Says:

Going to have to really rely on the run game today. With Wirfs out and to stop the rams pass rush the run game will be huge. It’s playoff Lenny time to shine.

  27. SB~LV Says:

    Figures

  28. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Special TEams and Defense should carry us for this game. JUst like what the niners did last night. GO BUCS!!!

  29. All Hail JPP Says:

    Great… Wells ..ugh ffs

  30. Sparky Says:

    JGhotier
They elevated Griffin so he could get a game check as a reward for being on the practice squad. And it doesn’t count against the salary cap because it comes from the league.

  31. Bobby Says:

I love the Bucs but when Godwin went down I thought it chance of repeating diminished. Now without Wirfs I have to say my confidence is low in coming out victorious gains the Rams but I’ll be hoping Wells steps up and that our D steps up and makes plays. Go Bucs!!

  32. Go Bucs! Says:

Bucs will win, Wirfs will be back for NFC championship. Great game its on the way. Go Bucs!

  33. Bobby Says:

    I hate auto correct

  34. Cobraboy Says:

Lots of two TE sets today, and few empty backfields.

  35. Robert Says:

so, no backup QB on gameday????

    cray cray

  36. DaBux Says:

    Perriman being out sucks.

  37. PassingThru Says:

    @Robert

    Remember Blaine Gabbert?

  38. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    LOL

    nobody remembers Blaine Gabbert bro

  39. Dew Says:

Smoke will have a big play today.

  40. Chimichango Says:

Donald is going to live in the backfield…

  41. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What I like is that Lenny is back & our defense is 100% suited up & mostly healthy.

What I don’t like is our WR depth……we’ll have to make up for that with:

    A running game
More usage of backs & TEs in the passing game…..

As we saw yesterday……turnovers & special teams will be key

  42. Francisco Guzman Says:

It’s not the blind side. It’s the right tackle. They can cope. I am worried about this offense moving the football.

  43. SKBucsFan Says:

    Next man up! LFG Bucs!

  44. Jerry Says:

Road very likely ends here. Just too many injuries. And it’s a nightmare matchup anyway. If the defense doesn’t play like they did in the playoffs last year, this could be over by halftime.

  45. Kgh4life Says:

Bucs will have to rely on a slow Tyler Johnson and a receiver in Scotty Miller that can’t get off press coverage, Rams by 14.

  46. Francisco Guzman Says:

Jerry stop being so negative! I expect the defense to show up. They’re missing their left tackle. They need the pass rush!!!! They also need to play physical. They’re very capable of that. Gonna match their intensity.

  47. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Last game Rams had 3 sacks and 6 hits, with all 5 linemen in and Gronk breaking rib. Missing a starting RT will likely just mean a extra sack or hit which were going to happen anyway. Missing a starting WR2 or TE or RB is much worse as it means more drops and more throw aways or many more stalled drives. It why the weapons and the QB is how this team will always win, expecting the defence to shut down an offence that gets 24/game minimum is unfair for the defence. The expectation is for Tom and special teams to put up 28 minimum or they can’t beat Rams

  48. JGhotier Says:

    Sparky – that’s cool!

    Thanks

  49. Swampbuc Says:

    Ffffffssshhhhhhhh……….

  50. Mike Johnson Says:

We shall see fellow fans. I know our Bucs will play hard. I’m hella nervous right now. All these injuries might be a tad bit to much to overcome. Heres to hoping for the best. But not being disappointed if the ship sinks. play like the 300 Spartans Bucs. Some kind of way, get it done. GO BUCS!

  51. PassingThru Says:

I expect to see more 12 personnel packages today, though the downside will be limiting Brady’s ability to test the Rams safeties. The Rams can go with Cover 2 shells, but I seriously question the effectiveness of that defense given that they lost their best two safeties.

  52. Lokog Says:

Who cares run fast hit hard

  53. David Says:

As much as we are all worried because Wirfs is out and not playing (or mental breakdown) are Perriman, Godwin, AB, Grayson…

The reality is they put up 30 points a game consistently.

Time to focus on who is there.
    Evans, Johnson, Miller, Darden, Brown.
    Gronk, Brate, Howard.
    Fournette, Bernard, Vaughn

And the defense I believe is playing with all their starter for the first time this year? Is that correct?

    LFG!!!!!

  54. David Says:

Well JPP is not questionable… He was just firing up the D in the tunnel as they ran out !!!LFG

  55. DaBux Says:

Hopefully the defense inflicts some Lions flashbacks in Stafford’s mind and he commits 4 turnovers. Just like the good old days.

  56. Cobraboy Says:

I just heard Stinnie @ RG, Cappa @ RT.

  57. Francisco Guzman Says:

These corners have to play the game of their lives. Rams will try and take deep shots.

  58. Francisco Guzman Says:

Is John brown active for this game?

  59. DaBux Says:

Cappa is in at right tackle and Stinnie in at guard they said a bit ago on the radio
    —————
Best news of the day. That’s a pretty solid right side and with some chipping and RB help, we should keep them muted most of the day.

  60. PassingThru Says:

    LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Tampa has home field, has the better QB and Mike Evans Gronk and Fournette/Bell/Gio. Only way they lose today is if the ref allows this game to get dirty and rough like both Saints games, and they injure Gronk again or Tom. Gronk is a minimum 14pts either in red zone or keeping major drive going on seem routes for Mike to score. RB will get their 7. And rest is on kicker and defense getting the ball or kicking it for 2-3 FG. Yeah

  62. Francisco Guzman Says:

A slow start could doom this team. They need a really fast start. Send a statement right away.

  63. PassingThru Says:

    No Bell, he was waived.

Bell was cut. Guessing you meant Vaughn

  65. New England Patriots Fan Says:

    Bell is gone? Oh wow

  66. NaplesBucsFan Says:

No whining only winning! Nobody cares that Whitworth is out for the Lambs. Play and win at all costs with who you have! Bucs at home all day of the Lambs! Defense is gonna surprise everyone again, just like they did last post season.
Bucs 34-24…put it in the books

  67. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Sorry didn’t know that, Thanks for update

  68. JimmyJack Says:

We are going to give Matt Stafford hell today. He can get rattled and will have to keep an eye on Devin White with the way he looked last week. We got Shaq a week healthier, JPP!! Nothing is going to be easy for the Rams…..Im looking for multiple turnovers…..oh, did I mention the GRAVEDIGGERS yet?

Buc fans are a little shell shocked from the week 3 loss. Dont be…..Think back to getting our asses kicked twice vs the Saints and what we did to them in thd playoffs. Our defense destroyed them. That was Drew Brees…….Youre worried about Stafford……please.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  69. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Great news!

    Vince Ferragamo isn’t starting today.

    Bucs win!

  70. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    LOL

Bucs Fans will be crying in the stands today just like all them Cowboys fans after the Bucs lose today……

It’s ok……it was a good run this season while it lasted. 🙁

  71. David Says:

    Go time!!!’

  72. PassingThru Says:

JFC… Vince Ferragamo… almost forgot about that non-talent.

  73. BucsFan81 Says:

    We need open thread joe.

  74. Francisco Guzman Says:

TheBucsAnthem you sound ridiculous. Are you even a bucs fan?

  75. Francisco Guzman Says:

The johnsons and millers of the world have to step up today. Play physical!!! Run the ball.

  76. PassingThru Says:

Ferragamo had one epic moment… the prayer to Billy Waddy that finished off Dallas in the Divisional Round with less that 2 minutes remaining, prior to advancing against Tampa Bay. Other than that, he was utterly useless as an NFL QB.

  77. Mike Johnson Says:

We had a hellava run fans. Its just too many injuries to overcome today. I hope i AM WRONG. bUT i FEAR THE END IS NEAR,

  78. Scooter Says:

Ram WR’s open all game. Brady normally would be pissed after such a loss, he’s not , he’s done playing.

  79. MoHawg Says:

Rams dominance once again, saw it live in LA in Sept and saw it again today. Home town crowd sucked as well, quite and not a factor, 12 man can influence a game, however not in Tampa
