“That’s Up To Tom”

January 23rd, 2022

Laments the end.

Rumors began to percolate midweek and only gained steam leading to kickoff of today’s brutal loss to the Rams. Will Tom Brady retire?

After the game, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians was twice asked about Brady’s future. Twice Arians admitted Brady’s decision does not belong to the head coach.

Arians was asked when he planned to meet with Brady to go over the season and perhaps talk about next season. This is a formality with NFL teams after a season. Arians said of whenever he and Brady get together, “That’s up to Tom.”

When Arians was asked if he thought Brady would retire or return, Arians again said, “That’s up to Tom.”

Notice last week Arians said he would be “shocked” if Brady didn’t return.

Will Arians be back? He left no doubt.

“Oh, yeah,” Arians said.

This year’s team, which mostly is the same as the Super Bowl-winning team in 2020, Arians said won’t return intact.

“This team will not be back together,” Arians said. “They never are.

“The finality of this league is a b!tch.”

Joe sure agrees with that.

    I think Brady is done.

    HEY JOE…

I gotta say… YOU COMPLETELY WHIFFED on all the overhyped articles about Dean, SMB, and Davis during the past.

So many of us have known for 2+ seasons that these guys are NOT elite NFL cover guys.

The Bucs will be FOOLS to sign Davis to a big contract. They need to let Dean, SMB, AND Dean all WALK and find replacements in Free Agency and the draft.

  3. lambchop Says:

They gotta get Godwin and perhaps Fournette in the fold. Bye bye Rojo, OJ, and probably a few defensive players. I would hope they still look at CB depth.

  4. HC Grover Says:

Keep Brady Dump BA. What a jerk.

  5. Coburn Says:

Sadly I feel this way the year. Window closed we won’t be back here next year imo. Bowles blew it at end of the game. I have no doubt we beat the Niners travelling across country with only their running game carrying their offense. get wirfs and some receivers and we have a shot against the AFC team

  6. ModHairKen Says:

Here we go. The team won a Super Bowl last year. This year, they have significant injuries, still get the second seed and lose a close game at home. And all of a sudden the keyboard GMs are going to tell us what they say they’ve been telling us all along.

Just try and enjoy this season for what it was, but you can’t because your miserable life is fulfilled by being a know it all and whining and being butt hurt.

Go cheer for the Packers or Saints. You fit in well.

  7. gp Says:

Tommie will be back BECAUSE Ariens, Bowles, AND Leftwich will be back
If any one of them leaves, then who knows.
My guess is that Tommie is just a LITTLE pissed and won’t go out this way!

  8. PassingThru Says:

Well Joe, I gave my honest opinion about the draft. I think Licht screwed up on his strategic opportunities. The CB group was weak in quality and depth, and yet they drafted Trask. That was stupid, Super Bowl windows are very brief, you draft and sign players to win NOW. Second, Haig left. He wasn’t a starter, but this draft had plenty of quality developmental OT depth, and yet Licht whiffed.

Crazy, I don’t know if the Bucs could have drafted answers for either position, but ignoring the glaring problems was not the answer.

  9. BradyBucs Says:

    ModHairKen,

Aside from the terrible Bowles call at the end that probably cost us the miracle comeback, no one is not enjoying the season and happy we at least made it far yet again.

BUT… we’re talking about the FUTURE now, and the Bucs have many holes to fill due to contracts, etc.

  10. lambchop Says:

    @BradyBucs,

Did you watch the game? The corners played well. If you can’t get pressure on Stafford, then they can’t cover all game long. Dean forced a Kupp fumble and OBJ was held under control. Kupp is Kupp. LBs had the TEs mostly.

We just couldn’t take advantage of Whitworth being out cuz JPP is still dealing with a rotator cuff tear.

Too many injuries, but this team showed heart. Ramsey got burned by Mike Evans, should the Rams cut Ramsey?

  11. Ash Says:

They almost beat the rams with all the injuries they had this season they can certainly make another run next year if Tom doesn’t retire couple pieces they can upgrade from and this team will still be a continder luck just was with them this year

  12. Beastmode2021 Says:

The irony of being eliminated by the same kicker you cut. Maybe you should slap your coaches upside the head. Maybe you should try developing “Pro Bowl “ players instead of signing has been players who don’t finish the season. Maybe you’ll make them report to practice next season like they should! BA do you need a fork for that humble pie?

  13. BradyBucs Says:

    Lambchop,

SMB missed another lazy 1 arm tackle that may have cost them the game for the SECOND TIME this season. It’s a junior high level play. You tackle the guy with two arms and take him out of bounds. Robinson juked his lazy 1 arm tackle attempt and then picked up a critical 1st down.

Davis is a part of getting burned deep for a TD in a playoff game AGAIN. Just like the NFC Championship. He’s terrible. Even adding to that, taking off his helmet and doing other IDIOTIC things.

Dean sucks too. He makes occasional plays but missed so many tackles and gets burned so many times, or commits stupid penalties.

  14. gp Says:

    **********************************************
    That does suck
But THAT was NOT what decided this game!

  15. sauron's eye Says:

I hope we are not entering the Gabbert years. You can’t count on rookie corners. We need a free agent or atrade.

  16. DBS Says:

What team is going to be good? Saints, Carolina, Atlanta? Don’t think so. I hope Brady comes back with Godwin and maybe Gronk. A few good pieces we could win the South division again.

  17. captivajim Says:

BL & BOWLES decided this game.. I really don’t kno WHY anyone would hire BOWLES ..

Rather than blitz on that last play —we should have rushed 3 & dropped everyone else into a PREVENT DEFENSE ..

But No — he let a safety cover the nfl”s best wideout ; 1 on 1 with 35 seconds left in a tie game !!!

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

JMark, August, Anonymous, Buc1987 and the rest of you BA fans, how’d you like that preparation, discipline, special teams, freaking Darden, Pinon & Succup were playing for them. The run was working with Brate lead blocking, why abandon that? 1 run on second down, I am sick to my stomach they fought so hard to come back and to leave Winfield on an island against the best receiver in the league is dumbfounding. Good luck Bucs fans all the hits Brady took over the years and it took a 69yr old washed up coach to retire him.

  19. Wild Bill Says:

Would not surprise me if both offense and defense coordinators are gone next year if this game result doesn’t ruin their chances. Pot bellied Bruce is over the hill. Gonna be hard to keep the team intact. Late draft position hurts and too many older players on the Bucs. Add in the weak defensive backfield and I don’t see another Super Bowl contender next season. Don’t think Brady will come back either. Don’t think he will play for a rebuilding team. Mediocre draft hurt this year and we draft low again so not a lot of help likely there. If Brady retires we are really screwed. Brady might stay if some top free agents get signed, but we likely lose some to free agency too. Offensive line with Wirfs back is our strength next year. But probably a lot of turn over/needs everywhere else. The owners and GM have a lot of decisions to make. Lose Brady, one or both coordinators, a couple free agents and some key players retiring and Bucs could be very different next year.

  20. David Says:

    BradyBuc

You are completely wrong about Davis and Dean. They are both very good. I have doubts about SMB. He also seems to be the worst tackler of the bunch. They’ll be getting another D lineman, DB and receiver this draft

  21. alvinscissorsharper Says:

If Brady retires, we’re instantly a 4-6 win team.

  22. HC Grover Says:

He may go to Miami and write his own ticket.

  23. WillieG Says:

This team won’t be back together? Good. Get rid of Darden, RoJo, Johnson first.

  24. BucsFan81 Says:

A lot of people need to go. Some of these older defensive guys like JPP and Suh need to go. We need to get younger especially with the season being longer. I hope we get Godwin and Lenny back. They both deserve new contracts.

  25. Beeej Says:

If Brady returns, resigning Godwin will be a condition

  26. kyle Says:

go get russ if tom retires

  27. kyle Says:

bucs fan^^ suh played awesome tonight? not sure what youre watching. Agree, jpp is a shell of himself, he wont be back.

  28. Brent Clark Says:

On the last Drive of the Rams official never touched the ball to set it for the next play which was a spike, time would have ran out and would have went into overtime.

IF ANYONE DISAGREES WITH BRADYBUCS , THEN MAYBE GO BACK AND WATCH EACH GAME AGAIN ON NFL GAMEPASS THE LAST 2 YEARS.
Alot of comments are made in response to these kind of comments about the secondary, but THE FILM DOES NOT LIE, AND PLAYS NO FAVORITES

I posted last year when Joe posted about the secondary that the secondary was the weak link, and they have been.
And I caught a lot of grief. You know seeing Carlton Davis fall down NFC Title Game and Devante Adams waltzing into the end zone with a TD was just plain painful to see. The #1 thing for a player, let alone a CB is to stay on their feet. Boy that struck a nerve for the Davis fans. Davis has talent, but is injured so much an over all is not worth any kind of big contract, he just has not performed at any kind of consistent level. No Way.
And J Dean has had his moments, but super soft scared coverage is not going allow him to step up his game. He has to take off the brakes and just play free, so his speed and talent can actually show consistently during a game

Last year in the post season the pass rush got going and that made the difference.
It looked like the Bucs had a pass rush to HIDE the secondary coming into this season. But it never really was able to do that. And this Ram game is exhibit A.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

“I posted last year when Joe posted about the secondary that the secondary was the weak link, and they have been”.

That did not come out the way I meant. Joe posted about the secondary. I commented in response to Joes post, that the secondary was the weak link. And that the front 7 was the strength.
Joe did not post the secondary was the weak link, he was making points about the Secondary in his blog post.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

Clark I agree bro I just realized that !!

  32. Listnfrmafar Says:

My God August, are you that oblivious? How many times did this secondary give up 3rd & longs? Are you watching the same games as we are? I don’t care what the stats are this has.to be one of if not the worst secondary in the league. Winfield & Whitehead only ones with potential. Maybe the others are and they are just poorly coached. I don’t know but they are horrid.

  33. TF Says:

Todd Bowles could not catch lightening in a bottle twice. He won us a SB last year by doing a brilliant game plan after reviewing the ass whipping KC put on us last year. This year he also had film from a regular season beat down and he whiffed. I’m thankful for that SB victory but let’s face it.. the 35ish games under the Brady era, AT LEAST 26 or 27 of the games, the defense, specifically the secondary, made unexcusable, undisplined plays and penalties. Direct reflection of coaching. Mr Bowles probably still deserve a shot at a head coaching position however. I hope he gets one. Then I’d be VERY excited about getting a new Defensive Coordinator. (Wink)?
