Reports: Antonio Brown, Mike Evans Expected To Play Today

January 2nd, 2022

More good news.

The good news started yesterday afternoon and continues this morning.

Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians was pulled off the dreaded COVID list yesterday and was given the green light to travel with the team to SopranosLand to coach today against the Jets.

Then it was learned starting corners Jamel Dean and Sean Murphy-Bunting were both removed from the COVID list and activated.

Now it gets better from the fingers of NFL uber insider Adam Schefter of BSPN. He twittered out this morning that furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Bucs receiver Antonio Brown and fellow receiver Mike Evans will dress and play today.

What a great handful of hours of Bucs news!

Per Schefter, Tampa Bay doesn’t seem to want to push Evans with his gimpy hamstring so Evans will be used in a “limited capacity.”

So it doesn’t appear this is the game Evans will extend his NFL-record streak of seven straight seasons to start a career with 1,000 yards or more receiving. He needs only 101 yards to do so.

  1. Howard Cosell Says:

Hopefully the game will be a blowout and BA can pull some starters in the 2nd half. But there is no guarantee it will be a blowout. Jets are dangerous and Bucs could lose if they get overconfident.

  2. Mickman Says:

I doubt Evans will be limited. I believe he will get 101 and sit next week.

  3. 2021 The Year of The GOAT Says:

Pound the ball on the ground… It will open up our offense let some of the new guys get reps….

  4. mg Says:

    Make Fireman Ed leave early.

  5. Swampbuc Says:

Balanced game Leftwurst. Run the damn ball some.

  6. Georger Says:

Mickman, I agree. Get Evans 101 and sit him next week.

  7. Cleanhouse Says:

    Not worth injuring AB

  8. westernbuc Says:

I don’t think Fireman Ed has been to a game in years

  9. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I am rooting for Mike Evans to get his record today.

  10. mark2001 Says:

Chris…I’m sure Mike is pushing himself back to reach that record. If he hits that record sometime today, sit him and bring in the backup. And rotate him the last game.

  11. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

@ Mickman and Georger: ME13 has a hamstring issue and as the Joe’s have pointed out many times, that particular injury is a tricky beast. Having said that,…it took AB what, 15 targets last week to reach 100 yards. That sounds like a lot of work for a guy with a hammy and just getting over the virus. Here’s hoping he gats a target or two and sits.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is good news….but the Dean/SMB news is more important……with JPP & Shaq out, we need a strong secondary.

  13. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

My biggest concern is that turf. That track almost single-handedly derailed the 49ers last year in consecutive games with the Jets and Giants.

  14. Jordan Says:

Not surprised by this news – if they both play, it means the Bucs don’t have to play either one of them the entire game so it theoretically reduces injury risk

AB probably played too much last week vs the Panthers for example

I will, however, be very interested in what we do on offense with the 3rd wide receiver when AB and Mike Evans are the #1 and #2 – I would guess it’s going to be Grayson until he shows he can’t do it

Grayson is very interesting to me, he is definitely a burner but he plays a lot bigger than his actual physical size. Compare that to a Scotty Miller, dude is tiny and might even play smaller than his size at times, gets completely eaten alive in press coverage, going over the middle and blocking.

  15. Bucman Says:

If ME doesn’t catch another pass this regular season, could he claim to be the first WR to haul in 899 yards for his first 8 years?

  16. Infomeplease Says:

GOOD NEWS!!!! It’s about time this team gets some!! The Jets play one high safety a lot… Look for ME and AB to have big games!! So glad to hear BA is recovered, pre existing conditions and all! GO BUCS!!

  17. freadity Says:

I say let them rest and lets keep our precious players for the playoffs , or LET THEM PLAY they are players and if injury so be it so

  18. Bojim Says:

    I hope nothing gets tweaked.

  19. Ryan Dexter Says:

That’s ridiculous! And if you’ve read and listened to everything, then you get a gold star. –Joe

  20. SB~LV Says:

    Go ME !
Grab your yards and have a seat

  21. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

Keep everybody healthy for playoffs… But Just Win Baby!!!

  22. Bird Says:

Joe already pointed out but looks like weather will hold

50’s and no rain and no wind. Nice for NJ this time of year

  23. Buc1987 Says:

    I must have missed something.

    When was AB not playing?

  24. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

For what it’s worth, closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager just reported that Jamel Dean and SMB took a private plane to the game and only landed a few minutes ago. I know they cleared protocol yesterday but I’m not sure why the late arrival.

There’s also no truth to the rumor that Dean tripped while walking down the steps from the plane.

  25. Cobraboy Says:

    Good news.

The Bucs need to play at least ONE game where they put together 4 quarters of solid football.

They have not done this once this season. I’m not sure they can.

It will take 4 solid quarters in EVERY playoff game to reach the Promised Land.

They need to show themselves they can.

  26. Cobraboy Says:

I don’t want to sit anybody.

I want this team to go into the playoffs firing on all cylinders.

So far all season this team has been winning while sputtering. That s#!t to ends NOW.

Guaranteed, all other playoff teams are not casually and arrogantly going into The Big Dance with a “we can turn it on whenever we want” attitude.

  27. Bird Says:

    Winfield jr activated. Nice

Dean and smb flight delayed. Just landed 2 hours before gametime. 😂
    Sherman out again 🤭

  28. Casual Observer Says:

Cobra – Perhaps you are right. Hope for a smash down today. All game long.

  29. BucsFan81 Says:

    Open thread Joe let’s go

  30. Nick ray Says:

Y’all make valid points. I’d have ME just get 15-20 plays in. Catch a few easy, uncontested balls and sit. Next week get the record. This needs to be rojo and Gronk day

  31. ActualBucsFan Says:

    Good

  32. David Says:

Ok…. We need an update ASAP on Brown.

It looks like it was a good year and a half run, for the most part, and the crazy just surfaced and he’s done.

I have tolerated everything since he came to this team including the Covid BS, but he just took off his pads and quit the team in the middle of a game. Contract should be ripped up and he should be thrown off the team five minutes after the game ends. I don’t care what caused it or what got him upset. There is never an excuse for that.

  33. Mike C Says:

Lol half a game for Brown anyway.

  34. Ben green Says:

Antonio Brown is everything that’s wrong with the NFL in one sorry excuse for a human being
