Major NFC South News

January 25th, 2022

Shocking news.

This earthquake that just hit New Orleans may have the Mississippi River flowing northward.

The biggest rival of the Bucs, the slimy Saints, just lost their coach. Sean Payton, the pride of Harvard of the Midwest, Eastern Illinois University, is stepping down, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

So the NFC South will be owned by the Bucs, provided Tom Brady returns.

Joe wonders if this will factor in with Brady on his decision whether to retire or not?

Joe has to believe Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht goes pool-jumping this afternoon. Provided his pool is heated.

  2. David Says:

I guess after Brees left and seeing Jameis for 2 years
    he said, “nope, not happening!”

  3. HC Grover Says:

    Send in Bowles.

  4. firethecannons Says:

heh lets immediately sign his defensive coordinator

  5. WalkdaPlank Says:

Jameis Winston came up to Sean Payton in his office one day and said “I’m so excited for next season coach!”

Sean Payton said “this ain’t it kid”

Payton couldnt make it after one season without Drew Brees haha

  6. Bucs&Bolts Says:

    Good riddance

  7. LJ'sDaddy Says:

That smirk, those pursed lips…cant stand to look at him. I don’t hate any of our other division rivals. I want to beat them all, and I want them all to lose every week. However, I don’t hate them. I HATE THE SLIMY SAINTS.

  8. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

More reason for Brady to come back! Go Bucs!

  9. Youngbucs Says:

    Wow

  10. Steven007 Says:

Big news. He’ll eventually coach the cowboys. Likely they’ll elevate Dennis Allen who’s done a great job as defensive coordinator. Still, New Orleans was built on its offense with Payton and Brees. Times are changing…

  11. ClodHopper Says:

Haha rides the coat tails of an HOF QB for years then leaves when they’re broke. He must be sick of brain getting ruined by all the crawfish and pork.

  12. Marine Buc Says:

Byron Leftwich will be interviewing with them this week.

  13. Bird Says:

    Whoa. That is huge news.

I wonder if they blow up team

I wonder if he is walking away cause of something about to drop
    Dude is pretty slimy

  14. Bosch Says:

I agree, Grover. And we get the Saints DC in return.

  15. Marine Buc Says:

I wonder if the Sean Payton to the Cowboys rumors have any merit?

  16. crazyBucs_CL Says:

bring him here…. send ALL we have in coaching staff there, include Darden and Gabbert to sweeten the deal.
Dead serious about this. Galzers, learn something from your own old man trick book.

  17. firethecannons Says:

ship todd bowles out to the saints in exchange for dennis allen and a 6th round pick

  18. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

IMO, one of the 2 best coaches in football. New Orleans will miss him desperately.

  19. New England Patriots Fan Says:

He was and still is an amazing coach

  20. Pickgrin Says:

Best Nelson from the Simpson voice – HA-Ha!

Wonder if the Saints now regret re-upping that much larger than appropriate contract with Taysom Hill?

  21. adam from ny Says:

wow this is all we needed to hear…

tom is returning and he got inside scoop…

he knows he can no longer compete like he has to with the bucs and TOM…

so he bailed and left like 45 mil on the table i think

  22. BucsfaninTX Says:

Dennis Allen needs to get that job

  23. DBS Says:

This has been on the net for a while that he may not be coming back. But also he may just be taking a year off.

  24. spicoli Says:

Brady has to come back now.

  25. SKBucsFan Says:

I guess it means that if he quits his job he is available to tall to other teams about a job? I would assume he had a contract with NO. This will be interesting in the next few days.

  26. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I don’t have to like the guy to acknowledge that he is a brilliant NFL coach.

(The Saints SHOULD HAVE been better prepared to replace Drew Brees I think.)

  27. Bird Says:

    Saintsfan59

So does that mean you (ndog) will be following the saints anymore. D coordinator prolly gets job.

So glad payton gone. One of best coaches in nfl …best on offense imo

Hope saints gets blown the f up

  28. Bucamania Says:

Broadcast booth this year, Dallas HC next.

  29. adam from ny Says:

he had 3 years left at 15 mil per…left it on the table so he didn’t have to deal with tom the next few years…

he must of heard tom is signing a big ole dooky extension…

    #AllsGoodInBucville

  30. Marine Buc Says:

    @ adam

the Saints are 4-1 against the Bucs with Brady at QB.

I believe it’s the Saints being $71 million over the cap right now without a QB.

Sean is smart and wants to head to Dallas and make another run at a SB…

  31. Bird Says:

He will be analyst for a few years and prolly be back. Still young

Will pull a gruden for a few years And make good money

  32. adam from ny Says:

taysom his is now officially a man without a country… 😉

    well sorta

  33. adam from ny Says:

    taysom hill *

  34. D-Rome Says:

Payton couldnt make it after one season without Drew Brees haha

I think you are right. If Spotrac is correct the Saints are $71,000,000 over the cap. I don’t even know how that’s possible. The Saints have no future especially with Jay-Miss at QB so it’s the right time to eject. They’re over the cap trying to reach one more Super Bowl with Brees. They failed. Time for him to eject out of a bad situation.

  35. captivajim Says:

send BA along with Bowles, Leftwich, Darden, OJ …a package deal…

  36. sauron's eye Says:

Really big news. I have never liked him since bountygate, and I believe they were targeting us for injuries in the last game. I will not miss him one bit.

  37. adam from ny Says:

    yeah i know they’re in cap hell…

and since he’s so smart, he knows his ownage of the bucs is going to end soon anyway – tides turn…

lol he’s scheming on mccarthy’s job lol

  38. adam from ny Says:

it might get so bad for the saints with cuts that they might even be forced to cut cam jordan…

    or so i’ve heard

  39. SKBucsFan Says:

Sounds like it could be one year away to officially void the contract. Then back with another team next year. Sounds like something a slimy guy would do.

  40. tampabayallday Says:

    THANK YOU JESUS

  41. adam from ny Says:

sean made them basically bankrupt and bailed…

    what a guy

    #FishLips

  42. University of Seffner Says:

Thank goodness! Wouldn’t be surprised if Dennis Allen got promoted to be their next HC. With the Saints having the worse Salary Cap situation in the NFL, makes it even better. That said though, somehow in some way, the Saints have always been able to find a way with whatever mathematical gymnastics to keep their core together and get under the cap. I can’t wait till the day where the Saints will suck again. Hope that’s sooner rather than later.

  43. SC Bucs Fan Says:

I see Payton’s decision to coach NO counting 0% if Brady returns.

  44. adam from ny Says:

maybe brady will want michael thomas…

because you know brady wants a 3rd number 1 receiver…

    brady doesn’t fugg around…

saints will be cut and saints will bail out too…

    just a thought

  45. fern Says:

Jerry is giving him the keys to Jerry World

    He can coach himself

  48. Mort Says:

    AMF!

  49. Bucsfanman Says:

Payton is a good coach…and dirty.
I doubt there will be any tears shed ’round these parts.

  50. Natron Says:

Would love to get Lattimore in our secondary

  51. Cobraboy Says:

Maybe Cam Jordan is looking for a new home…

  52. Tye Says:

back to back NFC South crowns just got a little more probable!

  53. Swampbuc Says:

Wow! What a coward. Can’t handle life without Brees. Good.

Eff Sean Payton. Hard. Until he goes blind. I’m still convinced he ordered his players to injure as many Buccaneers as possible last game. Bastage.

  54. Listnfrmafar Says:

One less guy to emabarrass BA and his cronies.

  55. Tampabaybucfan Says:

My guess he will coach Illinois or Rutgers….

  56. DoooshLaRue Says:

I hate Payton, but he’s a great coach and I respect the job he does.

I feel the same way about Presidents of the USA.
You don’t have to like them personally to respect the job they do.

  57. ElioT Says:

$74M over the cap already – No wonder why he doesn’t want to come back.

    Go Bucs!

  58. Show Me the TDs Says:

  59. Show Me the TDs Says:

    *Jameis

  60. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I’d be shocked if Dennis Allen isn’t promoted to head coach. Assuming he wants it. He should have been a head coaching target for other teams. If Allen is the new head coach you can rest assured none of the defensive studs are leaving that guy.

  61. BuccaneerButters Says:

🦀🦀🦀 The Boogeyman is gone!!! 🦀🦀🦀

  62. NotTampaTom Says:

Jame-miss almost made me quit wanting to be a Bucs fan. I feel you Coach Payton.

  63. Aceofaerospace Says:

    Good.

  64. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Brady about to call it quits and then found out Peyton leaving the Saints and told Giselle, just give me 1 more year honey…. pretty please please please please…. and Giselle said… ok honeybun, one more year!!!! GO BUCS !!!!!

  65. Cannon Says:

I hate Sean Payton and the Saints… but he was a damn good coach. Glad to see him gone.

  66. RandsABucFan Says:

Peyton will be Dallas’s new Head Coach.

  67. EEK Says:

echoing others… add him to the list that Winston ran out of head coaching

  68. ATLBuc Says:

Most coward coaches leave when their cupboards get depleted aka Urban Myers when Tebow and loads of talent left Florida

  69. Hodad Says:

Agree, he’ll be traded to Dallas for a kings ransom. Jerry has a team ready to win now, he’s 80 screw the future picks. Book it.

  70. TBD Says:

Belichick lost Brady, had a bad season, and then rolled up his sleeves to get back to work.

Sean Payton lost Brees, had a bad season, and QUIT.

Running away like the b**ch we thought you were.

Don’t let the door hit you in the a$$.

  71. mark2001 Says:

Looking at the likely prospect of Jameis at QB, and a lightened roster to meet the salary cap cuts, Payton figures it is time to bail. Smart move. The Saints could easily be the worst team in the division next year.

  72. STL-BucsFan Says:

dont forget what the Bucs gave up to get Gruden, Payton has a better resume than Gruden did then. so for the cowboys to get him means they would have to pay a pretty penny. glad he’s gone! $71 million over cap! they’ll blow it up and rebuild!

  73. Listnfrmafar Says:

BA retired Brady, Winsten retired Payton. Live goes on.

  74. Wild Bill Says:

Like him or not he did a dam good job. I can understand him leaving the grind of being an NFL head coach. He can make as much or more as a media guy on tv. Way less stress and tons of perks.

  75. Biff Barker Says:

    Good.

I always thought he was a scuzzy guy. Adios!

He was a brilliant coach though. Gotta acknowledge and accept that.

  76. PassingThru Says:

Dirty ass coach, but I’d rather have him and his staff any day of the week over Arians. Peyton is perhaps only second to Belichick when it comes to coaching.

As D-Rome mentioned, the Saints are in absolute cap-hell, to the tune of a negative $74 million. I don’t recall ever seeing a team deeper in cap hell. They’re at a point where they really can’t restructure their way into fielding a competitive team. Even if Peyton stayed, New Orleans is going to begin a painful, multi-year rebuild after releasing many of their best players.

That’s why this year was so bitter for them, this is the end of the line.

  77. Rod Munch Says:

I think Payton looked at the salary cap number, same as I did the other day, and has no idea how you field a team. I mean they’re going to have to cut a ton of players, all post-June 1st, and won’t be able to add anyone, really. That means at least 2-years of cap hell.

This is great news for the Bucs because it removes the biggest pain in the rear that the Bucs have had to deal with…

Also, hopefully, it means the Bucs are all-in on hiring Payton once Arians calls it quits. That’s what I’d do.

  78. BUCCOBRUCE Says:

Ive always wanted to bitchslap that smirk and that look he gives. Cant stand him and that bush leauge cheap shot bounty hunt orginzation. This division is ours if Tom coems back along with the number one seed knowing we got 9 home games next year. Lets go!!!

  79. Rod Munch Says:

It’s amazing all the triggered losers who get mad at coaches who defeat their team, fairly, without cheating.

Payton is probably the 2nd best coach in football, while I hate the Bucs lose to him, I just think of what Payton would have been able to do with this team. I like Arians, but he’s just not on the same level as Payton, him and Bill are on their own level in my mind.

Payton knows he’s facing legit cap hell for the next year or two, will have no chance of being competitive, so he’s getting out. It’s a smart move.

Also, remember, the Bucs broke his leg. For you dummies who need ‘revenge’, the Bucs LITERALLY broke his leg.

  80. allbuccedup Says:

One of the top coaches in the NFL. I have got a feeling he will be working somewhere in the very near future. But I am glad he is out of our division.

  81. Youngbucs Says:

Rod munch shut your saints loving a$$ up.

  82. Youngbucs Says:

Rod munch Sean Peyton career is no more better than BA. Get out your little feelings and look at their careers look at the facts.

  83. BUCCOBRUCE Says:

And to think you paid Tyson Hill 40 mil for 3 years.

    Ouch

  84. james west Says:

goodbye so long and good riddance

  85. Rod Munch Says:

    BUCCOBRUCE Says:

And to think you paid Tyson Hill 40 mil for 3 years.

    ———

It’s $40 over 4-years, and that’s for a TE and a backup QB. A decent TE makes around $6-8mil, a decent backup QB makes around $5-8mil, not to mention he might be a starting QB, who, even a bad one, makes like $15-20mil a year.

It’s literally not a bad deal at all if you use him the way Payton used him. In fact, if he could stay healthy, it would be one of the biggest bargains in football.

The fake number was that $140-million, or whatever the number was, extension. That was pure fake salary news, it was like a 1-year $8-mil deal I think. But 4-years/$40mil isn’t bad at all. Then again, if the next coach isn’t going to run this offense, then they got an issue.

  86. DaBux Says:

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Even funnier?

    WHAT IF….

Peyton goes to the pregame TV show for a year, waits until Brady/Gronk/Arians retires, takes over the Bucs in 2023 with:

Russell Wilson or AR12 at QB.

I know, it’s football porn, but life is porn.

  87. August 1976 Buc Says:

Hey Sean, Jerry Jones is on line 1.

    SP “Hello Mr Jones,”

JJ “Hello Sean, how are you, I have a contract on my desk. Can you stop by for a few?”

SP “Yeah, I can stop by tomorrow”

JJ “Ok I will have my jet in New Orleans in the Morning, what time can you fly out”

    SP “We can have lunch”

    JJ “Ok see you then”

Mike McCarthy is on the Volcano seat right now.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  88. Rod Munch Says:

DaBux – That’s pretty much exactly what I’m hoping would happen.

  89. Rod Munch Says:

August 1976 – A trade for Payton would have to net at least what Gruden got, you’d think. Would the Cowboys give up two 1st’s, a 2nd and a 3rd and millions in cash?

    Probably.

I do think that would automatically make them the front runner for the SB out of the NFC.

  90. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Sean Peyton was an excellent coach. His Saints teams were always well coached, and prepared.
Though us Buc Fans hated him, NOLA Fans loved him, with good reason.
He is gonna be a tough act to follow for the Saints.

  91. Biff Barker Says:

Munch, after the Gruden deal rules changed. I thought you couldn’t trade draft picks for coaches anymore ? Anybody know?

  92. Bucfan593 Says:

    He’s a loser

  93. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Biff,

    I think that’s correct.

  94. David Says:

For those claiming he sucked and was riding the coattails of Drew Brees, come on. Be serious. He’s a great coach. He darn near had his team in the playoffs this year with no receivers or quarterbacks. Every organization needs stability. The most important ingredient is a franchise quarterback AND a very good stable head coach. They go together

  95. FortMyersDave Says:

Biff, I think the last time a coach was traded was 2006 when Herm Edwards was traded to Kansas City as the Jets agreed to let him out of his contract in exchange for a fourth-round pick. New York got the pick and Edwards ended up signing on as Kansas City’s coach. I can not find any mention of rules since then. I guess you can trade a pick to a team to have them release a coach from contract so you do not have disputes like the Jets and Pats had in the ’90s over Parcells and Bellicheat.

  96. Defense Rules Says:

Whoever takes over in New Orleans will be inheriting a lose-lose situation. Kinda like what Todd Bowles walked into with the New York Jets. It’ll take them several years to get out of cap hell.

  97. Pickgrin Says:

Taysom Hill’s deal is basically a 2 year $24M deal with a bunch of option years added on and a few Million pushed to the back end

Hill was payed $12.159M in 2021 but only counted $7.25M towards the 2021 cap (so $5Mish from last year was pushed forward)

He earns $12.3M in 2022 and $10M of that is guaranteed. Counts the full 12.3 against the cap this year.

  98. Pewter Power Says:

If Dennis Allen takes over they are running the same defense, I’d only feel better if their salary cap situation dooms them

  99. August 1976 Buc Says:

Rod…. I think Sean will take 1 year off, and then step back into the game.
Jerry Jones is already sending “love notes” which proceeds beating down Seans door by Dec – Jan in time for next season.
Sean came from Dallas so we will see.

  100. steele Says:

I’m all for poaching the enemy, when the enemy has proven to be deadly, and hard to beat. If at all possible, replace Arians, Leftwich, Bowles with far tougher, more creative minds. Bucs need to be the bullies, not the bullied.

  101. Mike Says:

Good riddance. Man, I despise that guy!

  102. Captain Oblivious Says:

Like some of you my first thought was to kick BA to the curb and bring in Payton along with his staff. Can you imagine Sean and Tom developing an offensive game plan with a couple of trick plays every game?

I wonder if TB12 has any friends on the Saints he could lure over to the Bucs? He does have a knack for drawing quality players to the team.

  103. August 1976 Buc Says:

NFL News……. “Historic fire sale now in NO, come on down and get it while it lasts”

The Saints fans have had a good run, but the Pied Piper has set up shop on Bourbon St, and now years of being on a treadmill, to get out of Cap hell.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  104. Tye Says:

The Saints and the Panthers appear to be reeling, The Falcons haven’t been impressive in 2 years, the Bucs are in a good position in the division with Tom at QB….
IF Tom retires, it may be a race in this division to be the team who can build the fastest… At least the Bucs have a winning coach..

  105. August 1976 Buc Says:

Tye.. I thought the Bucs were one of the worst cap wise but actually they are 19th on the chart I saw said they were 2 spots below league average.

So they do have some room already, and after player movement and Greenbergs financial gymnastics, the Bucs will still be able to be competitive for the next couple of years with or without Brady.
But I am in no hurry to see the Trask era start. Hope the GOAT stays for 1 more.

BTW the Saints are 32nd out of 32 teams, at 71+ million over the Cap… The very definition of CAP HELL.

Sean has seen this moment coming for a while. After a 16 year run, he did not want to endure and outlast Cap Hell. So I think he sits for a year and walks into a good situation, with Dallas or another team.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  106. Volbuc40 Says:

    Hope they hire Raheem Morris!

  107. Lesko_Brandon Says:

I think Sean Peyton saw the writings on the wall that there is no hope in Jay-miss as being the Saints QB. He might as well retire wait for few months maybe a year until an opportunity with a good roster team opens up.

  108. Swampbuc Says:

Sean Payton will be the next coach of the Dallass Cowboys. If not in 2022 then in 2023. Book it.

  109. Buczilla Says:

Whenever Arians retires I’ll take this dude as our head coach in a heartbeat.

  110. Anglican Says:

Maybe someone had a bounty on his @ss and got skeerd

  111. FreddyBucsFan Says:

Leftwich to the Jags. Bowles to the Raiders. BA promoted to President Football Operations. Payton new Bucs HC. NO implodes. LOL

  112. CJ Says:

Slimy Saints? HA, comical. Let’s see who signs players that falsify Covid vaccination cards? Who then goes back on their word, that one false move and AB will be out of here. Oh, but he stays as he is “model citizen”. Arians is a liar and a joke. I have never seen Sean throw a player under the bus, Arians does it all the time.

Munch, after the Gruden deal rules changed. I thought you couldn’t trade draft picks for coaches anymore ? Anybody know?

    ———

You can still trade for coaches — hell the Bucs had to give up a 6th to Arizona for Arians to avoid ‘tampering’ charges, that technically means Arians was traded to us.

There might be some rules on cash, maybe that’s what you’re thinking about, but in terms of picks, teams can do whatever they want.
