Jason Licht’s Side Of Antonio Brown’s Drama

January 6th, 2022

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

There are two sides to every story and apparently Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht let his side, and the Bucs’ side of the Antonio Brown nonsense, be known.

Licht apparently spoke with uber NFL insider Adam Schefter of BSPN. And it paints a picture of the former Bucs’ furniture-tossing, bicycle-winging, tantrum-throwing quitter Brown as the juvenile, attention-starved, never-his-fault headcase that he is.

You can view and read the full thread here from Schefter’s Twitter feed. Joe has highlights:

* Brown was cleared by the Bucs’ medical staff to play in the game.

* Licht said Brown did not mention to the Bucs’ medical staff or trainers he had an injury before, during or after his meltdown where he did topless jumping jacks in the end zone on Sunday.

* Brown had a freakout over lack of targets at halftime in the locker room and had to be calmed down.

* Licht made several overtures with Brown to iron things out, even financially. Brown ignored all attempts by the Bucs.

* The Bucs made two appointments for Brown with an independent doctor in New York early in the week for Brown to be examined and receive medical attention and care for his ankle. Brown blew off both appointments.

* The Bucs were willing to set up doctors appointments for Brown in Tampa but Licht told Schefter that Brown was in New York.

    Wow

  2. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

The bulk of the evidence, past behavior by all parties is heavily in favor of Team Buc, not Karen Brown.

  3. TiredBucsFan Says:

Just rewatch his exit from the field. He didn’t seem injured when he was jumping around in the endzone.

  4. Costa Rica John Says:

Antonio Brown probably believes the lies he is telling. He’s all about money and doesn’t care about anyone but himself. The NFL needs to turn their backs on him.

  5. PassingThru Says:

That pregame exit from the team huddle was pretty revealing. You had the Bucs team together on one side of the field and Team Brown (just himself) heading towards the exit.

  6. Swampbuc Says:

This is so over. Keep AB from playing for anyone else this season, then make the trth known loud enough that the NFL will ban him.

  7. SlyPirate Says:

The only outcome is both sides lose …

The organization will pay a settlement.
The team is distracted by drama.
    No GM/team will touch AB.

  8. Francisco Guzman Says:

Swampbuc his contract was terminated which means he’s an UFA. Let’s see how bad that ankle is lol.

  9. Joshua porter Says:

Anyone whi thought that this was on the bucs can now stop all the bucs did this to him crap. He did this crap to himself like always.

  10. UKBuccaneer Says:

According to Schefter, AB requested his $2million in incentives be made guaranteed 2 weeks ago. The bucs refused.

How is anyone defending this guy?

  11. ClodHopper Says:

Suddenly this story is getting really good.

  12. Francisco Guzman Says:

I hope tommy drops this 🤡 like a bad habit from his IG. He did enough for him already.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The signing of Antonio Brown was a mistake from the start. I said that when it happened, and this proves it.

Last year, he was next to useless during the season. He played better in the playoffs, but who is to say one of the other WRs would not have played just as well in his place?

This year, his play was a little better, but he has always been a distraction. Worse than Keyshawn was.

    Good riddance.

And as for the Bucs eventually reaching a settlement with him…it will be for less than they would have paid him to remain a player, so that’s not a loss.

  14. Rico210 aka wutdaBucisthis Says:

Unfortunate it turned out like this. Part of me like “this can’t be happening.”
BA has to right the ship. Keep their eyes on the prize.

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

Now it makes sense. He lost his pay during suspension, he asked for the $2mm incentives and was declined. Light buld goes off in his head Bucs don’t support me. Proves his worth in Carolina, taunts Licht, thinks his shat don’t stink cause everyone in his brother is saying with AB,Bucs still have a SB chance. Slapped again in the face because Brady goes to those who help him win, tantrum, end of story.

  16. Jmarkbuc Says:

Gut feeling is we win the SB now.

A$$hat Brown going after the team, TB and Guerrero? How’d that work out for Belichick?

F around with TB12 and find out. Tom would take the Plant High Panthers to the SB now.

    ——
    Yep.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Yeah Lstn

Had nothing to do with BA, “firing at halftime” security, team officials or any of that blah blah blah.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

Funniest thing to me is looks like AB thought we were gonna lose to the Jets because he wasn’t playing…

    Boy he showed us😂😂

  20. Francisco Guzman Says:

We need a healthy defense. A healthy shaq and Lavonte.

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

Wow, he just signed with 49ers

  22. Show Me the TDs Says:

*BREAKING NEWS* Antonio Brown is a complete and utter A-hole. News at 11.

  23. Ben green Says:

Still a net positive for y’all? They didn’t need Brown to win the superbowl. He was a nice luxury, but the offense ran through Godwin and Evans last year. It’s simply revisionist history to claim otherwise. It was Brady who made him a focal point in the offense this year, hoping that it would keep him happy and quiet. How’d that work out for ya tommy boy? Now the bucs have to do two things at once. Reinvent the offense and deal with this continuing distraction. Ben has serious doubts about leftwich’s ability to morph into a two and three tight end offense, which is the best way to proceed. Brown already is a huge distraction for the team this week. All the players and coaches will be asked about it, and you can bet that it’s wearing on the locker room. A net negative in Ben’s book.

  24. Francisco Guzman Says:

List he didn’t sign with the 49ers. Where you getting this from?

  25. Francisco Guzman Says:

Ben green they need fournette back and evans has to step up his game along with Gronkowski. Need a combination of Grayson and johnson to step up.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Good reporting today Joe, lots of stories that are now filling out what was happening, now things make more sense and how you ended up with the explosion.

However I’m not sure why Brown would say anything about Licht, Licht is the only reason Brown was here. Clearly Arians didn’t want him, even last year, when he said publicly the Bucs didn’t want or need him. In fact the Bucs very much needed Brown to win a SB, without him, I’m not sure they do win that SB.

BUT the Bucs rode Brown as long as they could, and now his usefulness is done, and they send him to the glue factory. I have no issues with that, and there shouldn’t be any regrets.

  27. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rod Munch I felt a little compassion towards brown but not anymore. The guy’s a certify a-hole. That stuff about complaint at halftime about lack of targets is not shocking. I just hope brady just gives him a middle finger and stops cuddling him.

  28. Joe Says:

The signing of Antonio Brown was a mistake from the start. I said that when it happened, and this proves it.

Did you forget what happened last February? Apparently so.

  29. Jmarkbuc Says:

He called Mayock a cracker… three weeks after being there.

GMs aren’t off limits to the insane.

  30. Ben green Says:

Agree about LF Francisco, but if they keep the offense the same, gronk will be doubled on every third down. You really want Grayson and Johnson getting meaningful targets in a playoff game? Three tight end sets with a healthy Evans would befuddle defenses

  31. Rod Munch Says:

Question, and it’s a legit question, not a question to make a point… have there been any reports of players, anonymously or in public, bashing Brown? If there has been any, I haven’t heard them.

It doesn’t seem like Brown was any type of locker room cancer, I’ve not heard anyone legit claim players have said anything like that. If, after he came back, he was a completely different guy, I can see players, like Brady, just pitying him, not really being mad, but just feeling sorry for the guy that he’s a mental midget.

Anyways, it’s all good and fun drama. The locker room isn’t blowing up because AB went insane, the only real issue is the lack of depth. But this would be a perfect time to do the ‘everyone and everything is against us’ routine as you get wound up for the playoffs.

  32. Listnfrmafar Says:

Francisco, JMark, don’t believe everything you read. FYI Arians did admit during his interview he told AB to get the F out of here. So he did. There are better ways to handle a disgruntled employee.

  33. Francisco Guzman Says:

List the guy’s an ahole. He was throwing a temper before the start of the game. I am not buying it.

  34. BucsCoolade Says:

Listy.. 49ers could do it … speculation based on a kyle shanahan being the type who could pull it off..

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Francisco – I don’t disagree with you, as more info comes out, more context comes out, it sounds pretty clear that Brown returned from suspension as a different guy. I’m just surprised it’s taken so long for that info to come out, or maybe it’s my fault for just not seeing it until now. But as the story gets flushed out, I’m more and more thankful for the details, since it means Brady isn’t going to blame the Bucs for being idiots and messing a good thing up. It just sounds like the ticking time bomb that is AB went off.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

  36. ModHairKen Says:

The football gods are smiling on Tampa.

    1. This happened during a game. So the world saw it. AB can’t hide from his bizarre behavior. Even if every single word out of AB’s mouth was the truth, it does not excuse doing what he did and how he did it.

    2. This happened when the team was down 14 and still came back in spite of his behavior, with the winning catch being made by backup.

    3. This happened with one game left. That leaves plenty of time for this to further become ancient history by the time the playoffs begin.

    4. Everyone was tired of him anyhow.

  37. Tampabaybucfan Says:

A person with histrionic personality disorder, self-esteem depends on the approval of others. People with this disorder have an overwhelming desire to be noticed, and often behave dramatically or inappropriately to get attention.

I’m not a psychiatrist but this seems to describe AB…..

The guy gets suspended……probably cost us the Saints game….yet still wants to be paid his salary…..plus the incentives he didn’t earn.

Brady was obviously targeting Evans early in the Jets game….and AB didn’t like it.

  38. DBS Says:

Looks like the Chef got every single thing he wanted.

  39. ClodHopper Says:

Sometime early in the week I had a smidge bit of sympathy for Brown. just from seeing other people in my life I was thinking he probably hates acting that way and wishes he didn’t do that, and he’s living in his own mental hell, so to speak. But today is proving that thought wrong. He has no remorse for how he acted. Ryan Clark is right!

  40. Pewter Power Says:

So I’m the end it was all 100% about money only this team he’s on the losing end of it all

The latest report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter claims that Brown approached the Bucs last week, wanting the remaining incentives on his contract to be guaranteed, a request the team denied.

  41. Buc4evr Says:

The Bucs were smart by releasing AB after his atty made that statement yesterday. The bottom line is that if AB signs with another team and plays this season, he is lying about his injury. Hopefully the team can get back on track and put this mess behind them. Eye on the prize.

  42. SOEbuc Says:

AB statement how he had a major injury and the Bucs were forcing him back in proves it BS so let’s get over it. No jumping jacks with a broken ankle. Simple as that. Bucs aren’t going to let people know exactly what happened.

  43. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

This is all on AB. I want this drama behind us!!! Lets win our last game & get ready for a home playoff game…

  44. Listnfrmafar Says:

Clodhopper, I disagree, he has a ton of remorse he is just trying to justify it his head. Everyone new this guy was volatile, it appears this had been brewing for a few weeks. I am staring to believe after the vax card incident Brady may of cut ties with him or distant himself from him. Anyway there are sideline outbursts almost every year on the sidelines. I just think BA should of said you’re done for the day I am not putting up with that shat, not get F out of here. Cooler minds may of prevailed.

  45. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I would doubt the 49ers sign him, Lynch is a class guy who I’m sure has friends in the Bucs organization. He may be the most in the know GM out there with regards to AB

  46. Gordon Brook Says:

Antonio Brown could have acted normal in the situation and would have helped the Bucs win the Super Bowl and get hired by the Bucs, for next two or three years. If he played with the Bucs, after the next game he would have earned way more than one million dollars because you get great extra pay from playoffs and Super Bowl. Antonio Brown is not normal in anything, so he hurts the Bucs, team but more than that he destroyed himself. Every Bucs, player admires Antonio and supports him including all the coaches and Arians. Any NFL team that will accept AB now with his history of causing misery will be rejected by everyone because they know that the Bucs, did everything possible to be great for him!

  47. Bucamania Says:

AB cryin’ because the Bucs wouldn’t guarantee his incentives and he didn’t think he was getting enough targets to hit them. Be gone and stay gone AB.

  48. SufferingSince76 Says:

Listnfrmafar, you’re BA hate basically renders most of what you say biased and, therefore, useless. Just saying.

  49. DG060 Says:

So now it’s been proven that not only is psycho boy a QUITTER but he’s also a LIAR.
This was never about an ankle. LOL.
What a dope man. To all the Bucs fans who steadfastly did not want Brown here in the first place you were very right from the beginning.

  50. '79Defense Says:

And Brady still loves this guy?

  51. 2021 The Year of The GOAT Says:

NFL is a business…. AB was serviceable …. Until he wasn’t… Pity the next poor bastard that takes him under there wing.

  52. Chant Says:

He lies and doesn’t pay people, great person.

  53. Mike Says:

It’s all about money and respect, and he gets neither, as it should be according to his behavior and actions. I don’t have anything against him, but seeing him walk in to the locker room definitely set me against him for betraying his brothers on the field of battle.

  54. captivajim Says:

It was all about the incentives…..Maybe BA could have handled it better ?

Hope the distractions don’t get in teams way to beat Panthers…

everyone has to move on .. FOCUS on playoffs ..

  55. Wesley Says:

Imagine sticking up for Antonio Brown LOL.

    I could buy that.

  57. HC Grover Says:

It is worth 2mil now for him to go away and stfu. Go away and shut up money well spent.

  58. Eddie Marz Says:

I said this in a previous post. The week before Brown had 10 of Brady’s 18 completions. Last week 3 out of 34. Unfortunately he’s not a team player, couldn’t handle not being “the man” the next week. Has nothing to do with incentives either. Last year he made them all in the last game when Tampa had the game bagged. This past week Brady didn’t have the luxury of feeding Brown since they were losing. Brown couldn’t handle it and flew off. Great player but not so great teammate. GOBUCS!

  59. HC Grover Says:

The Ninnys and Chicks are gonna lose then here comes the VooDoo Stainks.

  60. Infomeplease Says:

Releasing AB frees up a roster spot for another player who actually wants to get in the game, play, and WIN!! GO BUCS!!

  61. David Says:

Fun while it lasted. See ya. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out you immature diva distraction quitter.
E F this “I hope he gets the help he needs “. no. He’s a grown man who quit on his team. Screw him.
If he would have played the second half and this week he would’ve got to his incentives if that’s what he was whining about.
Brady went out of his way to make sure he did last year!! At Rojos expense!

Now that we have had Godwin and Evans for a while, it is real real real hard to put up with the BS of a diva receiver ever again. No one is indispensable

  62. Eckwood Says:

He was pissed that they may get Mike the ball a touch more to get the record !! Simple as that !!! What makes him such an asshole is that Evans is out there clearing everything out for him to get every cat she gets and doesn’t say a word not that Brown can’t get catches on his own but Evans is part of the master plan to open things up for everybody else but Brown is such a classless pile of garbage well leave it at that ,, a classless pile of entitled garbage !! Attention seeking,,, head case,,, drama queen,,, it’s all about me,,, ego Karen,,, as hole,,, JackWagon and and and anyone that defended the guy is part of the garbage poison that is feeding America !! 🇺🇸 God Bless the Workers !! Go Bucs !! Entertainment below , read if you like the flag

Well this show the country has changed in the past 10 years and the NFL has been the socialist league forever and that breeds allot of Antonio Browns and Now the parents start it a 6 years old with all this community Parental Travel Ball I can spoil more that you socialist mentality!! Even the biggest so named republicans are in on it and fund it the most !! Only difference is in some of these countries that we are trying to be they don’t put up with Antonio and they kill them at the border !! Keep giving and giving , supporting financial discrimination, racist sports leagues, forced wage raise, dissolved free market …… how has this worked over the last 12 months …… wake up fools and hold the Jack wagons like Karen Head Case Antonio accountable !!!

  63. bucschamp Says:

if AB really believes he have a strong case vs bucs then go to court. why use social media? for likes and kudos? I’m pretty sure bucs have a bag full of AB bombs waiting to be released.

  64. adam from ny Says:

this seems to boil down to his incentive money…

yet he sat out half the season with the bad ankle and made a mega-slow return…

so of course he would be lucky to have hit some of those incentives in the final 2 games…

dude could only blame himself and his bad ankle and uber slow return to get back to racking up those incentive stats…

the dude got vontazed and has never been the same

  65. Buccsfan1 Says:

Antonio Brown news to be praised ,not condemed,he is a darn good reciever, and he has helped this team while on the field he draws a lot of attention. He has had a very decent career despite his actions, his accomplishments can’t go unnoticed not very long ago he was one of the most feared receivers in the NFL,yes I know his history and I think that shouldn’t take away from his accomplishments.I agrwe with Tom on this we should not pass judgement we should just all try to work through this together for the betterment of the team we must all remember at the end of the day it’s just a job,it’s nothing personal!!!

  66. Anthony Says:

I believe he had 4 receptions. Maybe if he would have stuck around he may have gotten more. Evans was back so maybe that bothered him cause the previous week he was the guy

  67. New England Patriots Fan Says:

When buccaneers can’t put up 30 as required for them to win now, as the defence cannot stop a good offence they then lose a easy playoff game and season ends.
I will then come back on here and read the bitching and complaints on the game day chat. I won’t comment of say man AB may have helped with Chris gone. I’ll just think what a waste Brady could’ve got another SB. With this teams talent on offense it should be super bowl or failure season. This is a Brady lead team, anything but a SB game is a wasted year. All the antics and posturing about who was right or wrong about a guy most on this site called a future HOF WR and stated was the was the best WR on team the first half of the season. Does not matter now as the two highest production WR on a per game basis are not playing for the Buccaneers now. And Leonard is hurt. There is one good WR on this team now and a hall of fame TE on his last season. This was horribly handled on all sides but specifically the GM/Coaching front, as you had a guy who’s entire earnings was predicated on stats with only 60k/game contract whom was hurt for 6 weeks and suspended 3. He was genuinely hurt, why inject him pre game, why meet about to discuss injury, why text a say WE ARE NOG RESTING PLAYERS, why push him to Dr apts if he was fine, and they knew there was a chance he wasn’t going to hit targets with 8 quarters left in season and an injury. GM/Coach hated the guy, BA since Pitt, never really wanted him on team, and didn’t want to work with him to punish him for vaccine story leak and his AB centric behaviour. Losing Gronk and Tom for the playoff run are probably the only other players the team more valuable than AB for the playoff run. No one else seems to be able to get open against good corners. For a preview against a physical defence when WR can’t get open see the Saints or Washington games minus AB. In conclusion Gronks nor Evans should be touching the field this week, a tweak could mean philli one and done, as Tom won’t be able to move the ball without Gronk.

  68. Wild Bill Says:

Trash is trash, talented or not. Never should have signed the unstable unpredictable weirdo regardless of his physical talent. Hopefully the Bucs have learned a lesson.

  69. MadMax Says:

AB was jealous….knew there were guys ready to replace him, knew his time in Tampa was up….and probably knew this was his last rodeo, so go out in AB fashion…and that he did….all good….we move on.

  70. Jerry Strickland Says:

I took up for AB after his fake Covid Card. The guy needs help , but there is no excuse for what he did to the team and especially turning his back on Tom Brady. Tom allowed AB to stay in his home when he first game to Tampa and for him to bad mouth Tom and his trainer along with Arians and the team is inexcusable.

AB get help and your life in order. I will pray that the Lord will show you the to get your life in order. Stop blaming everyone else and realize where all your problems come from.

  71. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Yeah Joe… Nobody forgets what happened last February…. Yeeeeah they won a super bowl and it changed my life!! NOT!! … It may have made YOU more money from more traffic on your site but they would have won that super bowl and in green Bay without him because it was the defense that really won those games!! In New Orleans, green Bay and against the chiefs it was all defense!! The offense did good against the skins and that’s it!! …. If the saints make it to the playoffs and bucs have to play them it’ll be the defense again that will have to carry this team to the super bowl!! …. The offense did everything they could to try and lose that game in GB but the defense bailed them out over and over!! … Stop giving this POS ANY credit!! It’s just a game and a guy like that doesn’t deserve to be on the field!! I’m glad he pulled this kind of stunt again so that hopefully this will be the last we ever hear from that POS accept that he got convicted and went to jail where he belongs!!

  72. Tampa2ATL Says:

“Karen Brown” – HomerSimponRocks. Thanks for the chuckle. I hereby nominate Karen Brown to be the new moniker used for player formerly known as AB.

  73. Rob Singer Says:

Mistakes made all around. JL should have worked out a compromise with AB’s lawyer on guaranteeing a % of the incentives instead of just blowing it off. That was the trigger. Bucs should have known how unpredictable AB’s reaction would be. And if you want to win the Super Bowl and your diva drama queen receiver is one of the keys to doing so, YOU DO NOT DO SOMETHING THAT MIGHT SET THE GUY OFF WITH THE PLAYOFFS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. Keep the guy happy somehow. Humanities: 101. Take the damn headphones blasting AC/DC off and get a clear look at the bigger picture!

Now JL put even more pressure on Brady to “figure it all out” and win back-to-back Super Bowls. As if it isn’t hard enuf winning one and repeating with all these injuries.

Next time something like this comes up, call me.

  74. E.Vi. Says:

I think there is like 20 other receivers that are better than brown. We would of won Superbowl with Evans and Godwin and GRONK by alot more and we’re going to win this Superbowl too without brown. Because now Brady doesn’t have that pressure to throw to brown if you know what I mean. I think Brady going to have better numbers and offense will be alot smoother…. what can brown do for you today????
