Bruce Arians Speaks To Lost Decade Survivors

January 12th, 2022

Ready for anyone.

Joe was actually thinking about this a couple of nights ago lying awake in bed.

My, how football standards around here have changed in a year. Joe remembers last year like it was yesterday (was there even an offseason?).

As the 2020 season headed into December, there was a lot of fingernail biting and gnashing of teeth with Bucs fans stressed out if Tampa Bay would even make the playoffs. The community was collectively stressed out.

And for good reason. The Bucs hadn’t played a meaningful game in January since 2008. It had been so long since the Bucs made the playoffs, and fans got kicked in the nuts and back-handed across the grill so often through seemingly endless garbage football seasons, it had almost reached a point Bucs fans wondered if they would ever experience a Bucs playoff game again.

Well, Bucco Bruce Arians (and Tom Brady) turned that around. In fact, a year later, if the Bucs didn’t win the NFC South, Bucs fans would have considered that a total letdown and an outrage to settle for a wild card berth.

That’s what happens when a team wins a Super Bowl!

So it seems Arians was channeling Bucs fans who survived the Lost Decade when he spoke of playing the Eagles this Sunday. Arians was asked if it is good to face a team in the first round of the playoffs that the Bucs had already beaten earlier.

“I’m just happy we are playing,” Arians said. “I’ll play anybody this time of the year.”

And that’s what Bucs fans were like last year and for over a decade. Just get to the playoffs.

Last year demonstrated that with Brady getting to the playoffs is the key initial goal. With Brady, anything in the postseason is possible.

Get loud Bucs fans come Monday if you have a voice you didn’t scream enough

  2. Swampbuc Says:

I still have facial twitches from watching Raheehaw, Schiamoron, Lovehimself Smith, and his cousin Mike Smith. I have irritable bowels from Josh Freeload, his older nephew McClown, the inept GlenNonQB, and the mercurial JaMiss.

Watching any defense prior to Bowles’ units.

The cute and kind Geraldine McCoy.

    Ugh.

Yes I still get afraid at night thinking about the next game.

  3. Desertbucsfan Says:

I would love to see someone on our defense get a pick 6. Flashback Ronde
    Go Bucs

  4. lokog Says:

lets beat eagles as payback for all those times they elimidated us from the playoffs

  5. Tye Says:

    The Bucs were counted out:
    against the Saints @home(30-20)
    against the Packers @home (31-26)
    Against the Chiefs (31-9)

Never would have happened with any of the sorry HCs or QBs the Bucs had since 2008… Its known as the Lost decade for a reason!

  6. SB Says:

One of my FF leagues has a separate side pot for picking a Playoff team after the regular season was already crowned. It is a fun way for the FF season to kind of continue on until the SB.
I am still going to take Brady, ME, Fournette(risky because who knows if he is 100%) and I am going to take Gronk in my flex. I will take Kelce for my TE. I am still out on the other RB and WR but I am going all in with the Bucs!

  7. ATLBuc Says:

I’m looking forward to seeing a rested David, JPP and Shaq. They’re the plugs that prevent those annoying 4-6 yard runs

  8. SlyPirate Says:

Licht has obviously learned a thing or two about the DNA of winning teams. It will be interesting to see where he takes the Bucs next season.

  9. sauron's eye Says:

Bruce is the bucs best coach of all time. Not a very high bar. He has made all good decisions, got rid of Mr. 30-30, MR. 7-9. He is about to graduate coordinators to head coaching jobs. We were so lucky to get him.

  10. Beeej Says:

I still remember the Throwin Samoan…..(whose draft pick became Chris Collinsworth

  11. Swampbuc Says:

    The Blowin’ Samoan…….

  12. Youngbucs Says:

We as fans deserved last year. And this amazing season so far thx BA for changing the culture and making the right moves.

  13. Oneilbuc Says:

A change culture will be determined on the next 5 years not just 2 or 3 years. When you talking culture change you talking about teams like the Patriots, Pittsburgh , Baltimore, Green Bay, even Seattle I know they didn’t make the playoffs this year but it was the first time in 11 years I think. I want to see what happens after Brady if they keep some of the talent on the team . But BA done a good job by bringing in a more veteran team. The bucs problems has been drafting and firing coaches to early. Tristan Wirts was the first offensive linman the bucs drafted in over 12 years since they drafted the guard from Oklahoma in 2007 I think. This draft need to be on the defensive line or offensive line build the team inside out .

  14. Swampbuc Says:

Oneilbuc — you actually said this —

Um……..ever heard of Donovan Smith? Alex Cappa? Ali Marpet? You know, the other 3 out of the 5 starters?

    The only FA is Jensen.

Are you really this stupid or do you just play stupid on TV?

  15. Swampbuc Says:

PS — not to mention OL depth also drafted. Ih what’s the use, you’re gonna pivot to some other ignoramity anyway.

  16. Bojim Says:

Been there since 76. Will be here till I di……

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

BA changed the culture? Culture changes take 5 years. Did Youngbucs & Oneilbucyall take the same small yellow bus to school? BA does deserve credit for sweet talking TB12 into coming to Tampa but it was the presence of Brady that changed the dynamics and CULTURE of the team not BA. Brady took a losing organization and got them to believe they could win and they did. Culture change Oneilbucyall. Licht will need to do something drastic during free agency and the draft to keep the winning CULTURE or it is possible Bucs could revert back to the old losing CULTURE.

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

    For you Oneilbucyall

    Cul-ture

the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.

The Buc are a SOCIAL GROUP

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

Swampbuc I’m talking about in the first round not the second round or third round !!

  20. Oneilbuc Says:

Swampbuc go look it up and then you will see how stupid you and the Patriots fan listnfrmafar are!! Lol 😆 🤣

  21. Buczilla Says:

    Good times!

  22. Oneilbuc Says:

Listnfrmafar you haven’t been watching the bucs until Brady came. The bucs has been losing because of the coaching firing and bad draft picks. To me the bucs have walked away from their true indenty and that’s being more of a physical team rather than a fulness team . Pittsburgh kept that same mentality on defense but when they gave big Ben a 100 million dollars they started throwing to much and neglected their running game. You are not a bucs fan so I don’t expect you to understand that Skip Bayless!!

  23. Swampbuc Says:

Simpletin — (Oneil) — if you meant first round you should have stated so. What you wrote is what I am criticizing. And in case you haven’t noticed, the Bucs OL and the way Licht has drafted it has produced a top 5 unit, some say the best OL in the league.

Keep digging, then when you think you’re deep enough, go get a bigger shovel .

Here is your more complete quote, for the sake of cretin posterity

Show us where you wrote “first round.”

  24. Swampbuc Says:

I’d say Raheehaw, Schiamoron, Lovehimself Smith all got fired too late. They were incompetent immediately. Dirk might have lasted if he could have seen that Mike Smith had retired on the job after 2016.

Licht’s drafts are easily the cumulative best in Bucs history.

But if it makes you feel good to write this twaddle, keep doing it.

  25. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilaints is the worst always trying to down something. No 🤡 the culture is changed we’re winners and super bowl contenders.

  26. Youngbucs Says:

This guy excuses anybody who is enjoying the Bucs right now of being Brady fans lol. Oneilaints just leave be a saints fan that’s where your heart is. Why are you here?

  27. Youngbucs Says:

Facts the Bucs core is all young talent drafted by the team offense and defense I live in reality! We definitely need to draft some more d line and inside linebackers.

  28. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilaints is the worst commenter here because he can’t be real about anything revolving around the Bucs. He can’t be taken seriously because he’s butt hurt about he can deny it all he wants just claim the saints and be at peace dude. There’s nothing for you here goodbye 🤡

  29. Youngbucs Says:

They wanted to burn everything down and keep winston 😂

  30. #1bucsfan Says:

Thank you BA and TB12. Countless Sunday’s of misery and pissed off mondays. Lol def graceful for the past couple seasons. It’s fun being a Bucs fan again lol

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngcookie. Lol 😆 🤣 you are a joke !! I’ve been enjoying my bucs last year and this year. But at the same time I talk football not emotions like you. I’ve probably been to more games than you and I don’t even live in Tampa!! The only thing you want to do is give all credit to Brady and that’s just something I don’t do for no player. You bring up the saints just because I stated facts? Lol 😆 🤣 ok I love BA as a coach but his plays are high risk for turnovers and you hate to amid that he changed his plays from no risk no biscuit offense to more of a Patriot type offense and that’s not a knock on Brady it was a good move. That’s why Fournett had 70 catches. You call everyone a saints fan when they don’t agree with you lol 😆 😂 🤣!!! And yes Sean Payton is a better coach than BA and that’s been a proven fact get out of your emotions!!

  32. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilaints ain’t no offense been changed it’s just your excuse for the Bucs success. Of course the got things Brady likes all teams run the same plays. Winston bum ass could’ve tossed more passes to run back he just doesn’t go through all his progressions consistently when he was here. He had plenty wrs and running back check down go watch some Bucs all 22. Stuff is deeper than your this is because of that that is because of this. Brady is better than winston so of course he gonna operate better. That’s what you don’t want to admit Brady is better. And the offense and team are better for it. The Bucs are more consistent that’s why they’re a better team now.

  33. Swampbuc Says:

Young — you got it right but the Simp won’t listen, any logic or footballian wisdom contradcits whatever strange narrative he’s spewing. “Poor drafting and firing coaches too soon.”

If we still had Raheehaw, Schiamorono, Lovehimself Smith, or Dirk (with Lovehimself’s cousin Mike) the Bucs wouldn’t get more than 9 wins, probably not get more than 5.

    What a maroon!

  34. Swampbuc Says:

“And yes Sean Payton is a better coach than BA and that’s been a proven fact get out of your emotions!!”

Who beat who when it mattered most in the playoffs last year? Who is in the plaoffs and who is not this year?

When was the last Super Bowl the Saints won?

You are such a complete decomposition of anything remotely salient.

  35. Youngbucs Says:

BA has a top notch resume oneilaints just out for blood.

  36. Oneilbuc Says:

I have never said Jamies was better than Brady don’t know where you get that from lol 😆 😂!! I’ve said it a bunch of times you can’t compare Jamies with Brady one been in the league for 20 years and the other been in 5 years at the time . But I realize I’m talking to people who never played football before. And yes cookie they did change the offense for Brady stupid and every body know it but you dummies who try to push narratives!!

  37. Oneilbuc Says:

Swampbuc. That’s why yall were hoping the 49ers win because yall afraid of the saints because Sean Payton has always out coach BA and that’s a fact stupid lol 😆 😂 🤣!! Again stop talking with your emotions and look at the facts!! Again I’m a real bucs fan and plus I actually go to the games and I don’t live in Tampa!! I’ve even went to games when Josh McCown was the quarterback. And when comes to Lovie Smith go look and see what he did in Chicago stupid !! BA done a good job by bringing in a veteran team and changing the plays for Brady!!

  38. Listnfrmafar Says:

Not sure with this teams talent having a different coach means less wins. As long as Brady is on the team and was as successful in his recruiting the wins would be the same and depending on who the coaching staff was even better. I agree with Oneilbucyall, if Payton was coaching this team they would probably be 16-1 or 15-2. For one to say this offense mirrors the Patriots clearly hasn’t seen a Pat’s game. Personally I wish it did. To summarize, I.agree with Young & Swamparse, Oneilbucyall you are an idiot.

  39. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilaints it’s not about 20 years to 5years it’s about being better. Kyler better than jameis Watson better than jameis Herbert better than jameis Burrow better than jameis.

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngcookie. I can agree with you on those players who you named !! Justin Herbert as well but to me Jamies you ask to do to much with only having Mike Evans and that’s it for 4 years because Godwin was a rookie in 2018 . But at some point the bucs have to develop a quarterback. I think Trask can be good if they give him a running game because he ain’t mobile like Murray to keep drives going!!! They need to bring him on slow when he gets his chance!! But at the same time you can’t keep blaming these young quarterbacks who played good and college but when they comes to Tampa then they forget how to play football.

  41. Swampbuc Says:

Oneilbuc — is there any light on upstairs? Any light at all?

Who the hell is “y’all” ?

My primary reason for wanting the Niners to win (any good Bucs fan was cheering for the Niners, even the Bucs themselves) was it guarantees a home game for the Divisional round and the chance to host the NFC Championship if the Packers trip. This all requires the Bucs to beat the Eagles on Sunday but it improves the odds of making it to the Big Dance.

But, see, this is thinking type stuff. Not your cup of tea, I know.

  42. Oneilbuc Says:

Swampbuc. The Packers had already clinch home feild last week. That’s why Rogers didn’t play !!! If the 49ers would have lost we still would have the 2 seed . So what are you talking about!!

  43. Swampbuc Says:

Oh and Godwin was a rookie in 2017, lamebrain. You really know Bucs and football don’t you Moron?

“Wirfs is the first offensive lineman the Bucs drafted since 2007!”

    ROTFLMAO

Stupidity like this is Hall of Fame worthy.

  44. Oneilbuc Says:

Swampbuc. You right 2017 I was off 1 year ok ! Wirts was the first first round offensive linman the bucs drafted since then stupid!! Never the less the bucs has been building the team the worng way for 10 years now. You build the o line and the d line first when rebuilding a team . In side out but the defense is the most important side of the ball . You have to be able to stop people the offensive side of ball because of the rules a team is going to score points . That saints game was fluke defense wins championships.

  45. Oneilbuc Says:

And swampbuc where you even come from I don’t never remember seeing you on this site?? You must be one of those Patriots fans!! Lol 😆 🤣

  46. Swampbuc Says:

Idiot O’Neil – Rodgers played at least the first half of their loss to the Lions but what does that have to do with anything other than your profound cretinism?

  47. Swampbuc Says:

The Bucs have the best OL in the business and this moron is criticizing it, saying it’s not the way to buiold a team.

Like telling a billionaire he doesn’t know how to make money.
