Brady-Gazing Jets

January 1st, 2022

The NFL’s worst-ranked defense features a lot of young players — guys that will be seeing Tom Brady in person for the very first time on Sunday.

Yes, Joe is talking about the brutal Jets. They’ve allowed the most points and the most yards in the NFL.

Now they have to face Tom Brady, an offensive line loaded with Pro Bowlers, living legends Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown, and maybe even Mike Evans.

Joe’s seen a few articles out of the New Jersey/New York diving into how starstruck the Jets will be. Brian Costello of the New York Post went there this week with veteran defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins’ perspective. And columnist Steve Serby dove into rookie defensive back Jason Pinnock coming from a Brady-obsessed family.

Joe has no doubt the Jets will be overwhelmed early on Sunday. They’ll need Bucs mistakes to keep them from getting blown out.

That young Jets defense certainly hasn’t practice against an offense like the Bucs’, and there’s certainly none like it in their division.

Joe almost feels sorry for the Jets. Almost. They couldn’t even get January weather in Jersey to help them with the Bucs. The kickoff forecast is 53 degrees and cloudy with little chance of rain and winds of just 10 miles per hour. It could have been far worse for Tampa Bay.

I wish we had that weather here!

  2. Casual Observer Says:

Sounds like we will get to rest a few starters. But you never know … .

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Who cares if the Jets are starstruck. They will want to play well. The Bucs better be ready or it’s going to be humiliating.

Sure hope that none of our players are thinking like that Joe. Granted, the Jets have only won 4 games, but 2 of those wins came against the Titans (10-5) and Bengals (9-6). Bucs have so many guys out for the game & several others playing at less than 100% that this game could very well be a lot closer than many seem to think. ‘Gimme games’ don’t exist in the NFL.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The injuries and covid listed reduction in players could give the Jets a little chance to do better against us. I never take anything for granted.

What are the most wins the Bucs have ever had in a season? 12? We may top that very soon!

  6. Cobraboy Says:

The Bucs are perfectly able to make game-losing mistakes…especially when overconfident.

  7. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Absolutely don’t feel sorry for the Jets. Bucs have been beat up and missing key starters all season. We deserve a blowout game against an overmatched team.

Every time we talk about steamrolling a team, we lose. Let’s hope we can still light ’em up with our crippled weapons.

  9. Jerry R Jones Says:

Sick and tired of hearing how we’re going to LIGHT UP an opponent, and getting embarrassed. Bucs better bring their A game.

  10. The Beer Whisperer Says:

The “chicken littles” fearing the mighty Jets, lol

  11. Swampbuc Says:

It depends on which offensive coordinator shows up. If Leftwurst has Brady drop back 20 straight times it could be embarrassing.

No doubt. Bring it every week cus we’ve been embarrassed a few times this year.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Don’t take any NFL team for granted…….Jags beat Bills, Lions beat Cardinals…..WTF beat Bucs….

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bucs lit up 3 teams all season, Chicago with a.rookie qb, Giants a mess if a team and Carolina that starts 2 QB’s. Grant it Wilson is a rookie but he’s better than Fields. Don’t see this as a blowout with a partial Bucs team blowing smoke up a lot of second and third strings arses. Vaughn didn’t do so well in the face of diversity against Saints and the verdict is still out on Greyson.

  15. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I predict, the Jets get a good ol’ whoopin tomorrow. No matter who the Bucs play.

  16. Swampbuc Says:

We all hope you are right, Beer.

“Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems.”

Never, ever take an NFL team for granted. Never, ever look ahead.

  18. Swampbuc Says:

I’m still traumatized by six consecutive quarters of regular season offensive ineptitude yielding the grand total of 3 points.

Boron still has a ways to go before that stain can wash out of his britches.

  19. SB Says:

It was Negative 25 here this morning. Good thing they don’t have to play in that!

Zach Wilson is improving as a QB, though that is not saying much. He is what I feared prior to the draft: a college QB who might have serious problems adapting to pass rush pressure, and the more sophisticated defensive coverages at the NFL level. He threw a lot of INTs earlier this season. His INT total would even be worse if he didn’t miss 4 games due to injury.

He’s cut down on the INTs, but it isn’t by making big improvements in his ability to read defenses. He looks for his primary target, and if the coverage is tight, he runs rather than tries to force the issue with his arm. That was his game plan during last week’s victory over JAX. While the Bucs have a better defense than JAX, I expect Wilson keep that game plan. It’s one of the few things that has worked out for him this season.
