As Goes Playoff Lenny, So Go The Bucs

January 13th, 2022

Excellent trend.

This stat blew Joe’s mind and made him awfully thirsty to shotgun a Bromosa at Big Storm Brewing.

Sara Walsh was just on NFL Network and in a breakdown of the Bucs’ first playoff game against the Eagles on Sunday, she offered a bit of interesting statistical data on the Bucs’ run game.

It seems when Playoff Lenny has just an OK game, the Bucs win. Walsh noted that whenever Playoff Lenny runs for at least 50 yards or more, the Bucs are unbeaten, 14-0.

(Joe thinks Walsh may have been a hair off. Last year against the Dixie Chicks at Atlanta, Playoff Lenny had 49 yards and the Bucs won 31-27.)

This is awesome news for Joe as the weather Sunday is supposed to be lousy with rain and wind gusts up to 30 mph. So it might be a good thing if the Bucs go ground-and-pound. Joe thinks Playoff Lenny can turn into a quality mudder.

In Playoff Lenny’s postseason career he has never not rushed for less than 55 yards and his teams (Jags and Bucs) are 6-1.

IF he’s 100% —we are in really good position.. with the weather outlook –similar to Pats game–we will need our best ground game

  2. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

I have to disagree Joe – I think the weather plays into the hands of the Iggles. They run the crap out of the ball…we throw the crap out of the ball. Our run D has been gashed the last several games and LVD may play hurt or not at all.

ADVANTAGE: Eagles (thank you mother nature)

  3. BillyBucco Says:

Run defense has been gashed without Shaq and JPP and David.
I bet we out rush the Eagles in this game.

We haven’t seen the motion runs until the last game and both times it worked for Miller.

Gives them something else to think about.
I’m not worried in the slightest.

Much bigger chance of a blowout at home than a loss.

  4. SlyPirate Says:

Stats are out of control. Joe’s site should have a classification system.

    I’ll Propose One:
    1. Definitive Stats – 90% Win if True – The opponent has +3 turnovers
    2. Indicative Stats – 75% Win if True – TB12 throws for 3 or more TDs
    3. Coincidental Stats – 50% Win if True – Lenny +50 rushing yards
    4. Illegitimate Stats – 0% Win if True – The Bucs win every time I eat a cheeseburger before the game (100% true but not actually indicative)

  5. Swampbuc Says:

Actually Lev Bell can also be a good mudder. If he’s lost some speed it’s less of an issue in mud. He still has the patented vision and patience. Looking forward to see a three headed monster with Lenny, Bell and Vaughn/

Leftwurst — are you paying attention?

BA — please keep a tight collar on Leftwurst’s tendencies to call deep passes repeatedly to start games and remind him that in soaking wet conditions, an all-go call on 3rd and 2 isn’t a great way to get a head coaching gig.

  6. SB Says:

I want to ride with Playoff Lenny as one of my RBs on my SB FF team but that Hammy worries me.

  7. voice of reason Says:

    mmmm, cheesburgers!

anyway, i agree with jaymiss. the team that cannot pass and that is the underdog is the team that should be rooting for rain. the better team with the elite passing attack should be rooting for clear conditions. that’s basic stuff. are both joes rooting for more runs or is it just one of yall that had too many bromosas?

  8. ModHairKen Says:

    Stats are for losers.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

New forecasts (I use three models in the Windy app) say the front may move through quickly, and the main rain is gone before game time.

But It may be windy, E @ 20mph, gusts to 30mph.

  10. Joe Says:

Actually Lev Bell can also be a good mudder.

    Thinking the same thing.

  11. EEK Says:

L Bell buttered the bread with those short TD runs in Pittsburgh; anything close to that is a positive; Fournette runs so aggressively delivering severe punishment on LBs and safeties; getting really fired up for some old fashioned Buc ball Sunday – what nice memories; let it rain heavily

  12. Bob in valrico Says:

NO disrespect to Lenny wo has really stepped up his game since the playoffs, but
IMO it would take 150 yards or more to approach a true ground and pound game. the weather is not the best forecast for our passing game ,but we have won a lot of games with Brady behind center also.

  13. voice of reason Says:

and joe sorry if i was a bit trolly. i am just pumped for this game and i dont want rain to be a factor and i want all the bromosa for myself!

  14. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I have seen about 10 different forecasts from the Weather Guessers, and all agree on one thing. It is gonna be Windy!

  15. voice of reason Says:

Tommy should be fine in the wind, right?

  16. SB~LV Says:

Gonna need a big running game on Sunday!
And a shadow on Hurts !

  17. Timothy V Says:

The eagles have only beaten one team above 500 all year. So stop blowing smoke up the eagles run game yes it’s good but it take a good team to beat a good team

Watching the last Bucs Eagle game on NFL channel, I know this is living in the past but the Evan’s, Brown, Godwin trio was unstoppable. Gronk and LVD didn’t play. Fing AB. Watching this makes you see how much Lenny is missed. Damn this offense was loaded.

Playoff Lenny coming in with fresh legs… 🙂

  21. DoooshLaRue Says:

    ……his mother was a mudder.

  22. unbelievable Says:

Last real windy game we played in was against NE….

  23. Bob in valrico Says:

This game will also be a challenge for ME13 that I hope he meets. Early in his career he had one of his worst games for drops in similar weather. Probably a good idea to avoid high passes in this game.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Humidity, Humidity, Humidity!!! Wear them down. Gronk, Brate, OJ big game. FYI, OJ went off in the first Eagles game as did Lenny.

  25. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

    …his muda was a mudda ?

I wonder if Leftwich would even know what the expression “ground and pound“ means!?

They should have been working on the run game during the regular season. Inclement weather can show up anywhere on any day. Now, we will be honing the run game in the first round of the playoffs?!

  26. Ed Says:

This time of year when cold fronts do move into the area the winds will come in from the north and blow to the south. Both teams will play 30 minutes with the wind at their back. That means when the wind is behind Brady his passes will have even more zip. He does throw ropes, that wind coming from behind will not effect his lasers.

Going into the wind will be a different story. If I’m the Bucs and they win the coin toss, I would take the ball first because then in the 4th quarter they have the wind at their back.

  27. Eddie Marz Says:

Stop worrying about playoff Lenny’s hamstring, please. We’re got other guys who are good to go. Lenny isn’t the difference maker anyway Brady is, and he’s healthy. GOBUCS!
