The Glazers Booted Jon Gruden. What About Antonio Brown?

December 3rd, 2021

“Whaddya gonna do now, Ed?”

BY IRA KAUFMAN

Antonio Brown has made a nice living by getting defensive backs off balance. He just did the same to his head coach.

If you watched Bruce Arians sitting behind a podium at One Buc Place on Friday, you saw a 69-year-old man shifting uncomfortably in his seat. He knew what questions were coming and he was well prepared.

Arians said his full focus remains on the Atlanta Falcons, but somebody should have thrown a yellow flag … false start. Arians went to bed Thursday evening wrestling with his conscience, wondering whether he should head butt Brown out of the building for good.

Brown messed with his teammates. Brown messed with Tampa Bay’s staff.

Antonio Brown

Most of all, Brown messed with Arians.

It was Arians who went against his original instincts and ushered Brown to Tampa, based primarily on Tom Brady’s urging. The same Brady who told Arians and Jason Licht that “It will be all on me … I’ll take the heat,” if Brown screws up, according to Lars Anderson’s new book, “A Season in the Sun.”

Although Arians indicated no final decision has been made, it sure sounds like Brown will remain a Buccaneer through the end of the season. No surprise there. If the Bucs were 4-7, Brown would already be gone. If he wasn’t such an impact player, he’d be history.

By no means is this an easy call.

By a prohibitive margin, Buc fans are willing to overlook Brown’s latest transgressions. They want another Vince Lombardi Trophy – and Brown’s return makes that more likely. He’s that good. In his five games this season, Brown has scored four times while averaging 83.6 receiving yards.

Brown’s irresponsible behavior has placed Arians in an unfair position, and that’s not right. Arians took great pride in the club’s adherence to COVID protocols. He was the driving force, stating everyone in the organization was vaccinated before Week 1.

When the Brown allegations first broke in the Tampa Bay Times, Arians dismissed it as a non-story. He supported his player and got blindsided in return.

There’s no way Brady wants the Bucs to jettison a talented trouble-maker. He trusts Brown implicitly on the football field, even as his head coach can’t trust him at all off the field. What happened to taking the heat?

The Bucs told Brown from the start that he is on the shortest of leashes. One false move and you’re out on the street. The league dropped the ball by being lenient with a repeat offender and now it’s in the hands of a head coach known for telling it like it is.

It’s no secret that stars are treated differently. The Bucs are much tougher to defend when No. 81 is running slants and giving corners fits with deft double moves. He could be a major factor in January. That’s what most Buc fans are thinking about.

Yes, he’s a difference maker.

Ownership Duty

Ultimately, the Glazers have to make a call here. They wasted no time removing Jon Gruden’s name from the Ring of Honor, deciding he dishonored the franchise with his crude and hurtful remarks.

“Ed, just focus on first downs, fast-food sponsors and happy thoughts.”

Brown just endangered the entire franchise. He placed dozens of others at unnecessary risk, starting with Arians and 83-year-old Tom Moore. That’s not a small thing, even if the NFL decided it’s not a season-ending thing.

Under different circumstances, this would be a no-brainer for Arians.

Brown would be bounced and Arians wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep about the decision. But Brown isn’t Scotty Miller and the Bucs are currently the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Doesn’t Arians owe it to the team and the fan base to keep Brown on the roster and maximize Tampa Bay’s chances to repeat? That’s likely the path he’ll take, even as Arians bites his tongue in public the rest of the way.

Brown’s actions were selfish, cowardly and not altogether surprising, based on his sordid past. By the grace of God, Arians and Moore have remained healthy.

That doesn’t mean Arians forgives and forgets. In fact, he’s quite sick about it. He’s mad as hell, but he’s also a practical man. You have to wonder how Christine Arians feels about a guy who jeopardized her husband’s well being. You think she’s dwelling on his 83.6 yards?

Shame on Antonio Brown for making his head coach squirm.

  1. rashad brown Says:

A.B. didn’t say tell Glazer to blow him. Hope this does not get me banned.

  2. Bucfan593 Says:

The only people who should be talking about removing Antonio Brown are people that do not want the buccaneers to compete for another super bowl!

  3. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

AB and the rest of league were either forced or strongly coerced into taking the jab. A medical decision should not be forced upon an individual. When this happens people go to the extreme.

  4. Robert Says:

I stopped reading. No AB, no SB last year or this year. and what about the other two.

I thought this was a Bucs fan site. and to boot AB while keeping that POS winston is hypocritical at best.
It’s also hypocritical stop reading and comment like you finished. Where did Ira say cut Brown? He didn’t. –Joe

  5. Bucfan593 Says:

I don’t blame him one bit. If it’s against a person’s personal beliefs to get the vaccine but you are in the public spotlight and have pressure from employers and peers to just comply. If you don’t comply you have to wear the mask of shame. And are held to different standards that the rest. Then are judged by commentators and media and former pros who are not in the same position. I say rock on Antonio we love you and are ready when you come back to make another Superbowl run!

  6. Francisco Guzman Says:

AB is going nowhere. Let’s stop this nonsense. I hope this stuff brings our team together.

  7. NCBucsfan Says:

Forgive me, but shouldn’t the coaches be help to a higher standard than the players! Rules are rules, I get it, but seems like an apples to oranges comparison to me.

  8. Bucfan593 Says:

Joe I have never felt this way about an article you have written but this looks like it belongs on CNN not Joebucsfan. It’s like you are trying to get him booted.
First, this is written by Ira Kaufman. Second, Joe doesn’t censor Ira or tell him what to write. Third, Joe has no control over the roster. Fourth, if Joe wanted Brown cut, Joe would say cut Brown. –Joe

  9. BuccaneerButters Says:

Let’s be honest here… What he did was stupid. Apparently, however, he is officially vaccinated, as is Edwards. Cutting them both (especially Mike) would be stupid. How many teams would line up to snag both of them? My guess is a lot, especially for Brown. So take the suspension, keep Brown here for the season and we’ll have a big conversation in the off-season. Edwards, obviously keep him, he’s on a rookie deal, Whitehead is on his last year. If we can’t keep Jordan, we’ll obviously need Edwards.

I hate the NFL playing judge, jury, executioner. It’s brought this whole moral high ground bull you know what to the league, which is for the movies. Now obviously, no one wants a murderer or other nasty people, but honestly, I just want to win. Winning cures all. Think Brown would be getting heat from the fans if he had been playing recently and not been hurt? No way!

I was skeptical of him signing, but the man produced and earned his keep. I get the trust thing, but he didn’t commit an obvious crime (don’t come at me with the federal thing, I know).

  10. BA4President Says:

@Rashad is right. Gruden did something that would make any owner take your picture off of the “Employee of the Month” dock.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

My wife and I are both vaxed.

    Both got the Rona anyways…..

Can’t see how he put anyone in jeopardy…especially if those he put in jeopardy are already vaxed anyways…and can still get the Rona like my wife and I.

He’ll remain a Buc for good reason.

  12. Caradoc Says:

    “Brown’s actions were selfish, cowardly”

No, AB’s actions weren’t cowardly, or selfish. It’s the people who push these nonsensical mandates and vax rules that are cowardly and selfish.

  13. Listnfrmafar Says:

How did AB & Edward’s put BA, the players and staff be in danger? Aren’t they all vaccinated 100%? So why would they be in danger??? The only people he could of hurt were outsiders and that would be the same as any unvacinated person?

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

Buc 1987, I guess I was typing while your post was going through. We are asking the same question.

  15. VSyl Says:

I can’t believe bucs fans are asking for brown to be released. This craziness has gone to far.

  16. Bucfan593 Says:

We are not asking for that look at the survey results

  17. Mike in Missouri Says:

Well said, Caradoc. I was vaxed by my own free will. However, no one should have that to be coerced about injecting something into their body. It’s truly amazing how the very same people who applaud “my body, my choice” are the very same ones forcing vaccines on people. Shame. Shame.

  18. SB Says:

“Brown just endangered the entire franchise. He placed dozens of others at unnecessary risk, starting with Arians and 83-year-old Tom Moore. That’s not a small thing, even if the NFL decided it’s not a season-ending thing.”

    PUHHLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEE!!!
Vaccines aren’t stopping those at risk from catching it!!!
Jeeeesh how did monkeys turn into people and people want to turn into sheep?
    Did he lie? Heck Yes!
    Was it wrong? Heck yes!
Should he have just stood up and said I won’t take it? Heck yes!
Was he pressured and coerced into faking it. Heck yes!
Does the Vax help? Maybe. Does it have drastic side effects? Maybe
He should have just said F that I will follow the Stupid unvaxed protocols that you have laid out for me.

  19. Bucthis Says:

I’m not condoning what AB did at all. At the end of the day I’m watching a bunch of gladiators beating each other every Sunday. I’m not tuning into a bunch of choir boys. Penalize them enough that it hurts and move on. I guarantee there are dozens if not hundreds of others in the league that have fake cards as well. If they decided to go back and review them all I think it would be eye opening. AB is just a known idiot so every report will be investigated. Serve the suspension/fines and move on.

  20. Winny Testaverde Says:

Irv doubled down on his anti AB stance. He must not want him to play against his beloved chiefs in a potential super bowl match-up. Gruden’s betrayal/libel/defamation vs an owner vs AB’s poor judgement are apples and oranges…or beet salads vs fruit salads if you will…completely different. Irv is beginning to swerve in his sweet 16 style rig these days…perhaps hopped up on too many Big Storm brewskies.

  21. The Beer Whisperer Says:

What a mess. All for stiffing a chef outta $10,000

  22. SB Says:

That comment was definitely not removable Joe.
    Also……Marpet update tomorrow maybe?

  23. Winny Testaverde Says:

Irv appears to be unhappy with his JBF contract and looking for a way out of JBF HQ. Perhaps he could launch a Buccaneer leaflet or the like to compete with The Joe’s?

  24. SB Says:

    The Beer Whisperer Says:

What a mess. All for stiffing a chef outta $10,000

Ain’t that the truth. When I fire an employee I give them three weeks salary and say “Bye”
That way they never come back or complain.

  25. Alanbucsfan Says:

Brown just endangered the entire franchise. He placed dozens of others at unnecessary risk
    – Mr Kaufman, that statement is based on your faith in what the government and msm narrative says. It is not based on the facts.

  26. westernbuc Says:

The only cowards here are the Glazers for removing Gruden from the Ring of Honor and the morons who are aiding this country’s rapid decline by calling for more of this unscientific garbage.

Masks work around 15%-20% of the time, it doesn’t spread outside, it almost exclusively affects the old and obese.

NFL players are at a virtually zero risk of dying from this, and the only player who’s been hospitalized was vaccinated.

If Tom Moore and Bruce Arians we’re actually scared of the virus, they would’ve retired. BA has done it before, he can do it again.

Yet the didn’t retire, just like Gavin Newsom at French Laundry, they don’t care. None of them are afraid of the virus, they’re still coaching.

I’m so sick of this charade and everyone that perpetuates it.

  27. crazybucs_CL Says:

    then Bucs #?

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Our biggest concern about repeating isn’t AB’s status. It’s the multiple injuries that keep popping up all over this roster. With 6 more games to go in the regular season, we’ll be lucky to limp into the playoffs, much less walk or run.

  29. rriddler Says:

AB & Edwards were tested regularly (weekly, I believe) and never tested positive, so they never really put anyone at risk.

  30. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Sapp assaulted prostitutes in Phoenix and he is still up there in the Krewe of Honor. Does that represent Buccaneer values?

  31. crazybucs_CL Says:

    @”..AB & Edwards were tested regularly…”

    Every Wednesday morning.
    Why they don’t mention that??
    …good catch ‘rriddler’…..
They were testing NEGATIVE all the time.
    Whos life was in danger???????

  32. Pa Bucs fan Says:

Ira I like your work a lot but AB was vaccinated by the end of training camp, it’s not like he got the vaccine just a couple weeks ago, so he hasn’t been putting people in danger. Your hate for AB has been so abundantly clear for over a year now that is kinda obnoxious tbh. Also AB didn’t tell Glazers to suck him lol so idk if they are even remotely annoyed as they were at chucky

  33. SteveK Says:

    Nope.

Gruden hate hate in his heart.

The league shouldn’t have a mandate. It’s America and people should have their freedom to choose.

Let AB lead us to a super bowl after he gets three weeks to work.

  34. The Beer Whisperer Says:

    Thank you @SB
I was worried about coming under attack, by do-gooders, who’ve done no wrong.
I’m prolly not out of the woods yet though, lol

  35. Pa Bucs fan Says:

Makes me LOL watching blue check mark media types pretend squirm and clutch pearls cuz lawd knows they have never sinned or done anything so horrid..also saying “shame on you” adult to adult makes me cringe

  36. Chuckstutz Says:

As reported by ESPN, Brown received the COVID vaccine shortly after arriving at Bucs training camp, after he was informed that his fake vaccine card could get him in trouble.
Let’s not become Australia with Covid camps for the unjabbed.

  37. SB Says:

Probably not Beer. Too many people nowadays cant see the trees for the forest.
Stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime is sometimes lost on these athletes today.

  38. Tampaabaybucfan Says:

This will cost AB a pot full of money and probably blows his chance at his incentives…….
The offense didn’t harm another person…..sure, it embarrassed BA but BA is a big boy, he can take it…..
    We need AB….

So, keep him……and….sure, we have controversy until BA puts it to bed.

  39. SlyPirate Says:

    >AB is losing $600,000.
    >He’s been scolded by his bosses.
    >His name is smeared over the internet.

How much worse does it need to be for a guy that was nervous about the vaccine but wanted to make a living?

He’s been punished. Time to move on.

  40. Dewey Selmon Says:

Scum bags will always be scum bags but the profit margin (wins and SB) is always the deciding factor.

  41. Anonymous Says:

I am really surprised at you Ira..
    Not even a close comparison..
The media are the biggest trouble makers around..politics play to big of a roll with the vaccine..I am vaccinated but I damn sure don’t believe that as Americans we should be forced to put something in your body unless you chose..We would not be superbowl Champs without AB

  42. sasquatch Says:

Antonio Brown has questionable character and may not be very durable any more. I could see us letting him go. He plays well when he’s available but one can’t help but wonder if he’s worth his roster spot and paycheck.

  43. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

I think it is high time that the NFL, check and verify the authenticity the vax card of every NFL player. That’s nearly 1700 not including practice squad which pushes the number over 2,000.

I’m TOTALLY sure that the only three players with fake Vax cards were ours.

Just like I’m totally sure that the NFL didn’t selectively leak JUST the Gruden emails while hiding the other 650,000…. because they would NEVER do that.

With the sincerity of a tobacco executive: “Concussion problem? There’s no concussion problem…”

  44. Aaron Says:

If the shot works – did he put everyone around him at Risk or just himself and others that chose not to take the shot?

I’d say let the players decide.

  45. Listnfrmafar Says:

SlyPirate, so he isn’t getting shackled in the center of Tampa and the city of Tampas people can’t spit or throw stones at him? What the heck is this country getting soft?

  46. Steve Burke Says:

I’m all in to stiffing chefs because of all that Sysco stuff they nuke for us…

  47. Anonymous Says:

Why are vaccinated people so upset ? You got the jab you are good to go ! this farce has gone on way to far !

  48. BigMacAttack Says:

I’m also with AB here. I believe it’s wrong to force anyone to get a vaccine that hasn’t been tested with time and doesn’t even prevent you from contracting the disease virus or whatever the heck it is. I know vaccinated people who have died. No way, it’s not about protection or prevention, it’s about control. This is complete bs imo. AB is keeper and we most likely wouldn’t have that Lombardi without him. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

  49. SufferingSince76 Says:

If the Glazers like Lombardis AB stays. No knee jerk reactions please.

  50. BigMacAttack Says:

KGB says: I need to see your papers

  51. The Daily Coroner Says:

KEEP AB. This is about FB. If it were about ethics some teams might not field a team.

  52. Buczilla Says:

Gruden said some crude, mean things, but in my mind, it’s laughable to call him a racist. His former players sticking up for him told me all that I needed to know in that regard. I do think that he and Bruce Allen are pigs for treating women like baseball cards though. He got removed because he told one of the leprechauns to play with his weiner. Simple as that.

AB lied and no one on earth is surprised by it. He did those who put their trust in him wrong and maybe put them in potential danger as well. His offense is infinitely more egregious than the words (freaking words folks) that Gruden stated, but I’d still keep him around for this year since no one was hurt. At worst I’d put him on injured reserve so that no other playoff team could snag him.

  53. Bobby M. Says:

The goal is another SB run and Brown can have a huge impact in that regard even if its only in the playoffs. I think if he were a headache at practice or on the sidelines during game, a problem in the locker room, he would be gone….but as a teammate he seems to not be disruptive and we’ve done fine without him for several weeks.

I think if Brown had infected other key players and we had guys missing games due to his fake vax card, then that would be an immediate release. Arians and Bowles have been in the league a long time, Brown isn’t the first dip sh!t they’ve coached…I feel pretty confident the coaches made peace with Brown being Brown as long as he was productive and Brady was happy.

  54. The Daily Coroner Says:

John Gruden, like most of us, is not perfect. The woke folk struck again.

  55. Kentucky Buc Says:

    Horrible comparison.

  56. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bugzilla, who did he put in danger again?

  57. Colin in Canada Says:

Its not about the vaccine or covid its about lying. AB lied and made the Bucs look stupid. Time for BA to put his money where his mouth is and cut this idiot.

  58. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

Can’t say anything really positive about this article or the previous article weeks ago about the Brown/Covid Punishment. Forcing someone to take something they do not want or need is morally and ethically wrong. Canceling people for political beliefs or personal beliefs is absolutely ridiculous but that’s the society we live and we continually allow it happen. Just watch the news and there is no repercussions for posting fake news or slandering someone. No punishment for anyone where Covid originated? Brown has pretty much been quiet and represented the Bucs A+ since he’s been here. Same as Edwards. Both are at fault here and should be disciplined if that’s the rules the NFL has mandated. Saying Brown endangered people is a little much considering he’s vaccinated to please everyone. I don’t like or condone the lying or whatever happened at all. But to make it out that Edwards or Brown or whoever put others at risk isn’t correct. I could be wrong but wasn’t brown, Edwards vaccinated prior to camp? All the checks these guys have to go through to attend practice, events, team activities, travel? They have all passed every step. If the NFL wants to be fair they need to really dig deep into every team and staff to see what other wrong doings that have happened.

  59. Duane Says:

Real interesting how this turns into a political issue about vaccinations when the real point is that this guy stiffed his employee for a small amount of money, costing himself and a teammate many times as much money, and harming his team in the process. This guy goes out of his way to be selfish, and consistently hoses himself if the sloppiest of ways, and people think he is the piece to put us over the top? Stop assuming that we understand this to be the only dumb thing AB has done in the last 18 months.

  60. Cobraboy Says:

I thought he was vaxxxed back in TC.

If that is true, how has he put anyone at risk if he followed the NFL protocols after the vaxxx?

Ira may know football, but he doesn’t know “science” other than the Official Narrative.

  61. Cobraboy Says:

    Agree 100% with KnoxvilleBuc.

    Well said.

How about an entire audit of EVERY team, including players and 100% of staff.

  62. kyle Says:

this is so dumb, we are talking about the flu…

  63. brooks Says:

bye bye ab. at least you got one ring

  64. Listnfrmafar Says:

So Duane, it’s Browns fault Edward’s and Franklin did it as well. F yall that say they never lied to get themselves out of something. If he truly put people in danger (which he didn’t) I see your point. These guys screwed up and not are they being ridiculed by any dip shat with an opinion they have to face their teammates and coaches and management. I know if I were a teammate I’d be like sh#t AB & Mike, you guys f’d up. They didn’t deceive them they were vaccinated and passed weekly test. This is less embarrassing to the team that losing to the WFT. Ya let’s fire the guy for being vaccinated. What ever happened to Hippa regulations? F-ing liberals. I bet next home game AB plays in he is cheered more than booed. Ya know why? All the fanatics that are vaccinated won’t go to the game because they’re ASCARED! If your vaccinated why afraid to be out in public. I’m vaccinated because I look at it like a flu shot, maybe it limits how bad I get it.

  65. Buc king Says:

    He’s good.. move on

  66. Jp09 Says:

Technically anyone who got the vax did it selfishly, the only thing it does is reduce the vaxed individual’s symptoms. They did not get the vax out of fear of spreading, they got it to protect themselves and their families

  67. Lloydmurphy19 Says:

If you allow him to stay, you lose all credibility as an Organization and as a head coach. You tell the team and the world that one screw-up, and you’re done. So now, after committing a federal offense, you can stay? This will not sit well with a lot of the players. It’s a huge distraction, that will affect team unity and affect morale. Letting him stay will not result in a Super Bowl appearance. I see a first round playoff loss on the horizon, and a loss this Sunday to the Falcons. If you don’t enforce the rules, what’s the point in having any to begin with. Get rid of this clown. How many chances does he get ????

  68. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

    Call God 🤙🏽

  69. Listnfrmafar Says:

Lloyd, hopefully more than one with the Bucs, what he did prior means nothing. I feel bad if you have children. I hope we don’t find them chained in a room eating dog food because they skipped school.

  70. WalkdaPlank Says:

Idk if I’ve ever seen a comments section so toxic.

And I’ve been coming to JBF for about 10 years.

  71. Buczilla Says:

    @Listnfrmafar

I believe I used the word “potentially”. If he got jabbed before camp, no harm, no foul.

    @KnoxvilleBuc

    Well said!

  72. Buc1987 Says:

    Lloyd…AB HAS been vaxxed.

  73. Buc1987 Says:

Plus he already has a 3 game suspension….but you want MORE!

  74. Alanbucsfan Says:

By the way, the individual from California who was 1st to test positive in US for Omicron variant had taken 2 gene therapy shots.
    Is he/she dangerous?

  75. Bibfortuna Says:

If I were Licht, I’d base my decision on whether to release AB largely on how much influence he had (or not) in getting Mike Edwards involved. Thats a young player that has never been in trouble before.
I guess the vaccine haters, mask-freedom apostles, government conspiracy theorists will probably stop reading Ira’s articles now.

  76. mg Says:

Owner needs to make the decision. And hurry up.

  77. Listen Linda! Says:

When is the NFL going to audit the vaccine cards of the rest of the league?

  78. SOEbuc Says:

AB will be gone next year. No way the Glazers are gonna try to miss history with Bucs 5-0 with Brown. Don’t forget, in the end, these are all grease ball billionaires trying to squeeze every penny they can. This is very sticky situation though because they told him at the beginning “no bulls!t” or you’re gone.” We’ve stepped in a big pile of bull sh!t.

  79. Captain Oblivious Says:

I’m with team AB on this one and think the article was silly. Maybe Ira was trolling us for clicks. This reminds me of TB12 deflate-gate in 2016. That ended with Goodell handing Brady the Lombardi after Pats won the SB. After the Bucs win at the end of this season I think they should put AB on the podium first to accept the trophy!

  80. Mike Johnson Says:

Grudens demise was a straight up hit job. How come only one player has spoken out against him? Man was held liable for comments made 10 years ago? Come on Man! I hope he wins his lawsuit. Nobody else was touched in this scandal. If that Ain’t a hit, I do not know what is.

  81. webster Says:

You people are hillarious. We got some talking woke folks strikes again when yet republicans are “canceling” and threatening violence to other republicans who dont think like 45 and the far right crazies. You people wanted to hang mike pence for crying out loud. I guess thats not woke or cancel culture. We have another einstein ragging on the people who believe in my body my choice as it relates to abortion. Funny , i never seen somewhere if a lady got an abortion it led to someone not wanting an abortion to medically get one. Abortions are not contagous einstein. But yea not having the vax can hurt others as 800000 have died. There are not 800000 unwanted abortions. Whats funny is the ones who are saying my body my choice as it relates to the vax will deny a lady to make her own decision about abortions. Then we have a genius still calling it the flu. Hillarious. We just had another pastor die of covid yesterday who preached against mask and the vax to his followers and some of yall still call it a farce. Keep up the comedy.

  82. SB Says:

    Ira isn’t stupid.
This is the most comments he has ever had I believe.
Things that make you go ‘hmmmm’.

The NFL should be fired for forcing its employees to get vaccinated or “suffer the circumstances”. Non tax paying not-for-profit motherbeepers which remains the biggest scam going. Antonio shouldn’t have gotten a fake card and should never have needed to. It’s all so ridiculous on every level.

  84. cmurda Says:

@Lloyd. Nothing you just said is true. The players will lose respect for this organization knowing something so trivial could cause their dismissal. Quite the opposite. The players would like to know that their teammates and organization have their back. A simple apology from AB should be sufficient. Nothing more. Nothing less. Federal offense? Pffft. Please. Let’s not try to make this a big deal. The NFL created the monster by discriminating against folks that don’t want the vaccine. I suppose it’s just fine to do that as long as the media says it is. Discriminating for other reasons is bad though. Riiigght

  85. Miller5252 Says:

I’m really surprised by Ira’s hard stance in this article, didn’t think it was that big of a deal. All the stuff these NFL players do and get away with and this is a 3 game suspension…. Crazy. We had a QB that thought he could touch a girl in a bad way and this is as bad as that?!?! I guess I don’t get how this is worse then some of the things players have gotten suspended for. I get the Erin Rodgers thing was different, but he still put people in harms way. Timeline is a big thing as well. If he did get fully vaccinated before the season, then why all the hate for putting others at risk?? Just wild to me that this is worse then some of the things guys have been suspended for in the past.

if they didn’t hold Aaron to it why AB?

  87. Listnfrmafar Says:

So Webster, the moral of your story is? Don’t go to church it’s breeding ground for Covid? Lloyd clearly has never played organized sports higher than middle school dodge ball. The majority of teammates are like family and don’t judge, they call you out when you screw up and you take your medicine and it’s over. AB has been a great teammate to this point so my guess he has brought more good than bad to the locker room.

  88. Tampaabaybucfan Says:

The title of this article should be: “The Glazers didn’t boot Jameis Winston, why should they boot Antonio Brown?”

  89. Listnfrmafar Says:

STOP, PLEASE STOP!!! If you want to get vaccinated do it, if you don’t, don’t. The problem is people are starting to mirror our politicians and media by thinking they can influence the decision of those that don’t share in your beliefs. Live your life and keep your shat to yourself. AB and Edward’s screwed up and they have been punished for it. The NFL has spoken, while pile on? Oh and I find it comical how some believe AB persuaded Edward’s, who is to say it wasn’t reversed?

  94. Buddha Says:

The New England Journal of Medicine today published a research article based on the. Experience of thousands of vaccinated and unvaccinated people across the world. The data show that the vaccines are 90 per cent effective in preventing hospitalization and close to 98 per cent effective in preventing death from Covid 19. More that 90 per cent of those hospitalized and 97 per cent of those dying from the virus are unvaccinated. No the vaccines are. Not 100 per cent effective. No vaccine ever is. But if you are unvaccinated you have an infinitely greater chance of ending up in the hospital and dying from Covid 19. Because a vaccinated individual comes down with Covid that doesn’t mean the vaccine is ineffective. It means that the person is among the 1 in 10 people who are likely to get a breakthrough case.

That’s over 1 million per year.
And every single one was it’s own separate entity, had it’s own unique DNA, and it’s own unique potential. To be snuffed out by the decision of the mother who was brainwashed to believe it was none of those things, just a lump of flesh, a tumor. Just think… If your mother thought you were just a tumor…
Short of China and N Korea, we have the most lax abortion laws in the world.
Maybe you should do a little reading and listening before you spout nonsense.

  99. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Tom Brady doesn’t care what Antonio Brown does off the field.

Tom Brady doesn’t care if Bruce Arians is mad about Antonio Brown’s fake deflated and spied upon vaccination card.

Tom Brady hated Bellicheck’s decision to cut AB from the Pats and took it as a sign of disrespect towards him.

Cutting AB was one of the major reasons that lead to Brady leaving Spygate and Deflategate New England.

Spare us your morality Ira, Brady doesn’t care about it. Brady cares about winning. Bending the rules of breaking them has never bothered him.

If Tom Brady retires or leaves the Bucs and signs with another NFL team after this year, as he will be a free agent, because he believes that the Bucs disrespected him the same way Bellicheck did with AB, then the Bucs starting QB is an unproven Kyle Trask or a proven non starter Blaine Gabbert.

Sean Payton is a friend of Brady and he needs a QB next year. I wonder if his former teammate and close friend Vrabel of the Titans would want Brady as his QB next year?

I wonder if Arians stays coaching if Brady retires or leaves.

Will all of our free agents and the rest of the NFL free agents resign with no Brady as a Buc and a possible new head coach and coaching staff.

Keep Brady happy and stop pushing moral chest bumpers like Ira on this site Joe. What Super Bowls has Ira ever won Joe?

Brady has won 7 to Ira’s typewriter zero Joe. Tom Brady has forgotten more about football than what Ira Kauffman knows about football Joe.

If I want to learn about what it takes to win in football, then I listen to Brady. If I want to learn about grammar and punctuation then I will talk to Ira.

I don’t seem to remember Arians being so upset with himself that he coached and helped contribute to the physical demise of Andrew Luck’s body and brain as Luck was sacked 41 times and battered and beaten in Arians Biscuit Offense in Indy in 2012 as a rookie leading the Colts to a 11-5 playoff record.

Spare us the BS of Arians caring about his players health. Andrew Luck disagrees with that muck.

The only ones that get abortions against their will are those who republicans force their side piece to get one which is hypocritical. I can care less if most who have abortions are minorities. Those minorities knew it was not time to have a baby for various reasons. You can give a crap about those babies because if you did then you would want to help them when they wine up in foster homes etc. Naw people like you say pull up your boot straps and they are a drain on your taxes when a segment of the government want to assist the less fortunate. ***********************************************************

I grew up in a foster home, with my Mother AND Father and all my brothers and sisters AAAAAND over a hundred foster children through the years. Mostly minority, mostly infants, mostly sick due to the negligence of their mothers who had no education on how to be a mother due to the welfare system.
Every single one of them was adopted out to a loving family, many of whom we kept in touch with for many years because every one of those children became a part of our family.
So, once again, you have blasted out a lot of hot air about something of which you know NOTHING.

  110. BucsFan 4Ever Says:

Deciding whether or not to get vaccinated should be a personal medical decision. The COVID vaccines do not prevent infection or transmission of the virus, so getting vaccinated does nothing to protect players or coaches. And professional athletes are at very low risk from COVID should they contract it. It was wrong to coerce them in the first place. And wrong for journalists to ask players about their vaccine status. It’s none of their F’ing business.

If AB lied to his team than he should be disciplined for that, but 3 games suspension without pay is overly harsh IMO.

  111. Joe Says:

Deciding whether or not to get vaccinated should be a personal medical decision.

The NFL/NFLPA covid protocols were collectively bargained. Both sides (owners and players) wanted them. Both sides agreed to it. It wasn’t like Roger Goodell ordered this.

Players were not forced to get the jab. Pressured? Sure they were pressured. But they didn’t have to get the jab. If that was their choice, they had to follow stricter rules.

  112. Oxycodoms Says:

By faking the card what did AB get away with? Im unfamiliar with what rules were in place by the nfl. From what i understand you are allowed to play if you are unvaccinated? Is he supposed to shower with his mask on since he’s unvaccinated? What was it that he was trying to get out of, Im late to the story.

  113. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Apparently he was vaccinated shortly after trying to get by with a fake vax card.

  114. gp Says:

We were all FORCED to take vaccines as kids for Smallpox, Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Polio, Rubella, etc. You don’t know anybody with those diseases because they were largely eradicated by the VACCINES!

Nobody was whining about it then. I got vaccinated for a few of those twice because I needed proof to enter Manatee Community College in 1992 and didn’t have it.

A friend, who thought C19 was a “hoax,” died from it. His Mom told me his last days were agonizingly painful. Please listen to medical professionals and please be careful out there.

  116. gp Says:

It’s not the “vax” that scares me.
It;s the millions of dolts who believe everything MSM feeds them is gospel truth and thus they don’t need to think for themselves.

And they say there’s no such thing as Zombies!

  117. gp Says:

Personally, I have little trust for either side of this argument.

    Just some observations…

    1) These “vaccines” have only existed for about a year (in their present state). Under normal circumstances, they would be just finishing up their first stage of testing with several stages yet to go before approval.

    2) From the very beginning of this “crises” there have been “oddities” about the information coming from China, the WHO, the Whitehouse, the CDC, and most especially from Fauci himself. Of course he has been the chief spokes person(did you know he was honored with a halloween costume this year?)

These “oddities” lead me to believe that there is information being withheld as well as ‘some’ statements seeming to be completely fabricated.
Even the statistical numbers are, shall we say, questionable.

    3) The entire situation has been rotten with politics from the very beginning. Not just from the two major parties, but from just about every political angle you can think of, and then some. Everyone wants a piece of the apple and a chance to advance their agenda’s.

“Never let a good crises go to waste”

The only thing anyone can “honestly” say about all of this is that they know very little about it. (This will still be true 5 years from now IMO)

    I am neither anti-vax nor pro-vax.
I can honestly say that I don’t know enough to make a decision yet.
And, at this stage, even if everyone was being 100% truthful and accurate in their reporting, I’d probably still be undecided.

When playing 5 card stud, it is unwise to go all-in on the first card dealt!

  118. Jerry Says:

Governments manufacture and take advantage of a crisis as a way to expand powers. It’s the oldest trick in the book. Seriously if you didn’t know this you need to read a history book.

As for the claim that AB put the team, Arians, and Tom Moore in danger…give me a break. The vax doesn’t stop the spread. Arians could catch COVID from vaxed Tom Brady just as easily as from unvaxxed AB. The only scientifically proven benefit of the jab is that it may reduce your own personal chances of hospitalization. That’s it. There is no evidence to suggest it stops the spread. In fact, there is some evidence out there that it is actually vaxed people who are spreading it the most.

  119. cmurda Says:

    Joe said:

Players were not forced to get the jab. Pressured? Sure they were pressured. But they didn’t have to get the jab. If that was their choice, they had to follow stricter rules.

Joe. So what you are saying is the players weren’t forced to get the shot but they were forced to get the shot. It starts with the NFL making it much more difficult for players choosing to not get vaxxed and it ended with Bruce Arians literally saying that players with the vax inherently have a big advantage over those without. Like I said, pathetically sad watching this country turn into a robotic Socialist land of scared sheeple.

  120. Buczilla Says:

I wouldn’t fret overly much cmurda. 125. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Rather than hurling insults, I prefer to be practical and honest.

People saying we should keep him because he can help us win a ring are maybe not having the right motives.

The questions which should considered is not the validity of vaccines. The question s should be:

    Were the rules broken?
Did the player(s) show that they cannot be trusted?
Did their unwillingness to be vaccinated cause undue risk to their teammates and coaches.

The answer to all of those is yes.
So yes, they deserve to be punished.

    Should they be released?

That’s a bit trikier. They are already being punished. Mike Edwards is obviously younger and apt to make mistakes, but if this is the extent of those mistakes, then is he worthy of a second chance?

Except…if you keep him you cannot have a double standard. You have to keep Brown as well.

Unless…it is discovered that Brown influenced the others to do it. But there has been no mention of that thus far.

And the final question…how do the other players feel about it? Normally, it wouldn’t matter, but their families were indirectly put at risk by the deception. How much friction will that cause?

These are all things that I think need to be considered

  126. unbelievable Says:

    Some actual facts:

    – No player was forced to get it.

    – Rodgers wasn’t suspended bc he didn’t present a fake card.

  130. Anonymous Says:

Today, some of those data were published in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), demonstrating that Delta infection resulted in similarly high SARS-CoV-2 viral loads in vaccinated and unvaccinated people. High viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with Delta can transmit the virus. This finding is concerning and was a pivotal discovery leading to CDC’s updated mask recommendation. The masking recommendation was updated to ensure the vaccinated public would not unknowingly transmit virus to others, including their unvaccinated or immunocompromised loved ones.

So those that are vaxed can still contract and transmit, strange but I guess the CDC is not an accurate place to get information

Tell me again how the unvaxed are selfish. By getting the vax you lessen your symptoms. Which, could cause you to have no symptoms, therefore you are now a carrier and do t even know it. Yet, you continue with your daily life infecting others without knowing it. Maybe your not selfish but just two levels below a ratard

In fact, according to the CDC you’re more likely to unknowingly spread it to others do to the reduced symptoms. Again, the VAX is for YOUR protection NOT TO protect others from you. Everyone made a choice based on THIER beat interest.

But I guess the CDC is not a reliable source of information……

You are using a story about when Man became aware and thus able to sin(original sin).
At the time that story originated and indeed for many thousands of years after, we, that is , Mankind, were unable to grasp the enormity of the engineering feat that God had completed in creating us. Some, obviously, are still incapable. But science has at least started, in the past hundred or so years, discovering some of the mechanics of how we work.
Here’s some science for you, If you had paid attention in high school, you’d already know this.
When the egg is contacted by the seed, it immediately forms a hard shell to prevent any other seed from entering.(in football terms, that’s the catch and tuck part of the reception) Once the seed and egg start interacting they “swap” DNA, mixing and matching to generate a unique set of DNA which is the blueprint of a new and unique individual. Once that is done, the egg and seed divide into two cells carrying that DNA.(in football terms, the “football move” that completes the catch) This, is now called a zygote, a newly created and separate being, though still reliant on the mother for survival. Let me stress, that “New Life” is “reliant” on it’s mother for survival.

Note. All of this occurs BEFORE the after sex cigarette can be lit (if she smokes)

The engineering and science of all this is far far beyond our ability to do much more than observe.

I’m like you in that I think releasing AB would be a major mistake.
    On the other hand…
Being a Bucs fan since inception, I’ve seen a boatload of bad decisions and horrible games/seasons and I’m still here.

  144. gp Says:

Also, Listnfrmafar, Be aware that webster is no Christian. No God fearing Christian would use the teachings of the Bible to “justify” the killing of the most innocent of human beings.

“I guess Ira got what he wanted from this article.. I am really starting to think guys like Ira and Rick stroud are putting personal feelings about Antonio Brown first..”
    .
    .

I’m guessing Ira and his ilk are putting their politics above news reporting. It doesn’t matter how many fact are out there, they won’t be happy until “anti-vaxxxers” stop putting oThEr PeOpLe At RiSk. They won’t be happy until clear-headed free men are put into camps and history repeats itself.

The point of this article was to push the faulty “science” just like Joy Reid, Jeff Zucker, Keith Olbermann and the rest of the crowd pushing to have “anti-vaxxxers” labeled as domestic terrorists.

If Ira really wanted to show his his journalism chops, maybe he’d do a story on why athletes feel a necessity to skirt draconian covid rules instead of just assuming the mainstream narrative. May be he’d consult some doctors who have opposing viewpoints for an educational angle, which might become the REAL story.

Instead, our resident journo skirts the real story. Quite courageous.

  146. Pickgrin Says:

“Brown just endangered the entire franchise. He placed dozens of others at unnecessary risk”

    Shame on you Ira!

This narrative is FALSE and doing a lot of damage to our country – it needs to end. Not be perpetuated and parroted by journalists…

A non-vaccinated person is NOT a greater “threat” to anyone around them than a vaccinated person.

There is ZERO scientific evidence to support this divisive narrative. If anything, the ‘science’ is leaning towards vaccinated individuals being more likely to pass the virus to others than non-vaxxed…. but of course, almost no media or ‘journalist’ wants to report about that……

You get a big fat raspberry for this “article” IRV.

    – The Pro Football Hall of Fame works collaboratively with the pro football family: the National Football League, the 32 NFL clubs and other entities.
..So what you expect, IK is going to side with NFL, with establ$shment.
so these are “our” guys, our caring “journalists”, our “elite” that “lead” us toward the reason. 😉
I hope Glazers are NOT listening to his voice, even they may go to the same chapel with him.

  148. Architek Says:

Should’ve wrote this article for Aaron Rodgers first.

  149. Crickett Baker Says:

One thing I will never understand. If Brown was gonna do this why didn’t he just pay off a doctor to give him a REAL vax card? There are soo many doctors who would do this that it would be easier to find one than a forgerer. He really is dumb.

  150. gp Says:

Somethings not quite kosher with this story.
If he was vaxxed at One Buc, wheres the V-card for that and why did it not supercede the “fake” v-card?
Denmark smells like fish for a reason!
    Wheres the reason here?
