Sure Smells Like Mike Evans Will Play Sunday

December 31st, 2021

Activated.

The signs, and more importantly, the actions, of the Bucs and Mike Evans seem to draw a picture that Evans will play against the Jets Sunday.

Why does Joe type that? Well, the Bucs’ talented receiver was practicing yesterday. That’s a great sign. If a guy wasn’t going to play, holding him out of practice with a gimpy hamstring would be the smart play, especially with the playoffs less than three weeks away.

Then there is today. Evans, who was on the dreaded COVID list, was removed and is now on the active roster.

If the Bucs had no plans on playing Evans, he wouldn’t be activated and eating up a roster spot.

Bucs interim coach Harold Goodwin is expected to speak to the local pen and mic club this afternoon. Hopefully, we may get a clearer picture of Evans’ status for Sunday’s game at New Jersey York.

Evans is 101 receiving yards away from extending his NFL record of consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons to begin a career.

anything for 1k yards….even if it costs us the SB.

    stupid

  2. Doctor Stroud Says:

He wants that record, and nothing is going to stop him. If the coaching staff keeps him out of the game, it might result in “hurt feelings”. Just stay healthy, ME13! We need you for the playoffs!

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

We have 2 games left, and with only 50 years a game, he will get the record.
He deserves it, and I am sure Brady will make sure he gets it.

  4. Nutterbuccer Says:

Run some 10 yard curls and fall down when you catch the ball mike. Catch about 4 or 5 of those and sit at half. Please and thank you

  5. Kentucky Buc Says:

I personally think his injury was very minor. I believe the coaching staff knew the Saints were intentionally going after knees and pulled him after the Godwin injury. Here’s some funny ship for u. Cam Jordan is up for the sportsmanship award. The dirtiest prack in the NFL. What a Fccin joke. Talk about fake news. 😂

  6. mtbucsfan Says:

Hell Yea!!! He deserves this record and doesnt want the *. He has put his heart and soul into this team. So the team is paying him back with the chance to play. Plus nobody knows his body better than he does. I expect him to play against the Jets and their crap D. Then sit against Carolina who actually has a D. Even though we destroyed them lol.

  7. Markymark Says:

He already has the record so I see no point in playing him.

  8. Cobraboy Says:

First of all, we have no idea how bad the hammy was. If it was bad, I doubt he’d play.

Secondly, I suspect Evans wants that record without an *…16 games, not 17.

Against rookie, 3rd-day pick CB’s, I don’t see why this would not be possible.

Brady will target Evans early and often.

  9. Marine Buc Says:

I would prefer ME continues to rest until the playoffs but I trust he and BA to do what is best for the team. Fingers crossed we are injury free on Sunday as we take on one of the worst three teams in the NFL on the road in the cold…

  10. '79Defense Says:

If he does get the 1000 yards I’d like to see it in 16 games rather than needing the 17th to get it done. Then again, I wouldn’t mind seeing him sit this one out if there’s any possibility of aggravating the injury.

  11. Ash Says:

If he can play I’d like to see him break the record again being afraid of injuries is silly because they are unpredictable he could get injured on the first play of a playoff game and what would have resting him amounted to, nothing.

  12. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

My concern is that field is a bad, bad track. Add in cold and rain and that makes me a bit nervous. We really missed ME13 in the red zone so that is probably pushing this as much as the record.

  13. Ben green Says:

The very real chance of reinjury for a record? It’s stupid. Yeah we could all get run over crossing the street, I get the argument. They don’t need him to beat the hapless jets, and his desire to play, just to get a record says a lot about the player. The best thing for the team is for Evans to sit. But that’s the problem when your head coaches brain is ammoniated

  14. Beeej Says:

Mike can get a hundred with a couple-three long 50/50 balls against the Jets. Lots harder against Gilmore and the Panthers

  15. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Another small piece of good news is according to The Weather Channel, a good deal of the wind and rain expected for Sunday looks like it coming in tomorrow.

Right now the forecast for Sunday is 56/27 with a 24% chance of rain as opposed to 55/51 with a 97% chance of rain for tomorrow. I’ll take a little cooler but dryer over a bad surface that gets wet.

  16. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Get the thousand Mike!! It’s important especially for a guy that has been so humble and never complained about all the other players the were bringing in! Mike deserves that record and to extend as long as possible!!

  17. Crickett Baker Says:

The coach of the AR Razorbacks said a cool thing. They are having their first bowl game (in Tampa) tomorrow. They haven’t been in one in YEARS. They also have a bunch of injuries and covid. Instead of saying “Next man up” he said, “All we have is all we need”. I thought that was very wise. Also, although I don’t follow college football, I think it is really neat that I moved from Tampa to AR some years ago, and now this is happening. 🙂 The game is tomorrow against Penn.
GL staying healthy, Mike. GO BUCS!

  18. BBro Says:

Tough guy but I wouldn’t let him get out there too early we need him as healthy as can be for the playoffs
