Scotty Miller’s New Opportunity

December 5th, 2021

Scotty Miller

Joe expects the Falcons to punt a lot today.

Why? Well, they’ve scored 24 points total over their last three games.

Rookie Bucs punt returner Jaelon Darden is shelved with concussion issues and Super Bowl returner Jaydon Mickens plays for the Jaguars. So the job now belongs to Scotty Miller.

Miller has zero career punt returns but Bucco Bruce Arians says he’s been working on it since he was drafted. Miller returned seven punts in college at Bowling Green, four in 2018 and three in 2016. The results weren’t special.

Hopefully, Miller is up for the challenge, which certainly isn’t as steep inside Atlanta’s dome.

If Miller craps the bed, then Joe expects the Bucs to either not catch any punts or put someone else out there to fair-catch the ball.

Frankly, Joe’s not sure what to expect. Joe could see Miller being an Adam Humphries type of punt returner because Joe doesn’t see Miller as a guy with quick-twitch speed. His is more straight line.

Anyone but Darden (Licht blew the 2021 NFL Draft). Go Scooter

  2. Winny Testaverde Says:

In the words of Uncle Rico as he described his nephew Napoleon ( Dynamite 🧨)…”He’s a tender little guy”. This worries me a bit as he’s no more than a buck 75. I hope he pleasantly surprises me/us. Maybe bring back Tim BrownEye for fair catches no matter what is a solid backup plan.

  3. Casual Observer Says:

Speed is good, But I see what you mean about twitch. Should be interesting. Hope he plays some WR too. Seems like he has been doing well at that lately – nearly always draws a flag. Maybe today he’ll be allowed (by the Falcons) to catch a couple.

  4. Bucman Says:

I wonder if anyone has returned their first NFL punt for a TD…….. Make it happen Scotty!

  5. Bob in valrico Says:

    good luck with that,
But seriously, I hope he does well. Run,Forest Run.

  6. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Why not try Rojo?
The Cowboys use Pollard and it’s scary how good he is.

  7. SB~LV Says:

First catch the ball, then put your foot in the ground and GO!
Whatever ever happens after that is up to Buc history!

  8. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Wait a minute! If Atlanta punts the ball that means……….

THE DEFENSE GOT OFF THE FIELD ON 3rd DOWN! YES!!!!!

  9. alton d green Says:

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

Medicated Pete: I hate to tell you, but only meat whistles judge an NFL draft before the players’ first year is even done.

  11. Bif Barker Says:

Cutting Mickens was inexplicable given that Darden is rather fragile.
Outside of Soukup, BA is grading out poorly at special teams.

  12. Joe Says:

    Cutting Mickens was inexplicable

Joe didn’t like that move either.

  13. HC Grover Says:

He should be ok he can catch.

  14. Medicated Pete Says:

    @Joe In Michigan

Pete spent 20yrs managing people & it only takes 6mo’s max to tell if they suck or not.

    Meat-whistle is a great. I prefer Skin-Flute

  15. Crackerbuc Says:

Darden sux at it. Scooter can’t be any worse or any more fragile than overrated Darden

  16. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Medicated Pete: Hahahaha, nice!

  17. Dwight Love Says:

When will Miller regain his starting spot as a blanket for Brady plus you guys have Justin Watson as well this guy is a home run threat in the making he should have been a starter since his rookie season he had size 6’3 220 speed 4.35 if he was with another team like Kansas City he would be a established star right now.
