Playoff Scenarios

December 8th, 2021

Joe gets the shivers reading this because after the Lost Decade, it’s still hard to believe.

At this time of the year, Joe used to be knee-deep in the draft and hoping the Bucs would do the right thing and lose and lose some more to get better draft positions.

So Joe this morning received an e-mail from the NFL — on Dec. 8! — how the Bucs can clinch the NFC South on Sunday. Man, how far we have come as Bucs fans.

So here is the breakdown of how the Bucs could wrap up the NFC South by Sunday night. Not saying it will happen, but here is how it could:

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (9-3) (vs. Buffalo (7-5), Sunday, 4:25 PM ET, CBS)

Tampa Bay clinches NFC South division title with:

Tampa Bay win + New Orleans loss or tie + Carolina loss or tie

Tampa Bay clinches playoff berth with:

Tampa Bay tie + Carolina loss + New Orleans loss + Minnesota loss + San Francisco loss or tie + Washington loss or tie.

Yeah, your brain is likely throbbing after reading the wild card possibilities. So how about we just focus on the NFC South, um ‘kay?

Big game this week against a desperate, wounded animal in the Bills. Going to be a tough one

Bucs need #1 or #2 seed to win Superbowl says Pete

What has to happen for homefield? Why are we behind Arizona and Green Bay if we had the same record?

  3. Stone crab sam Says:

This city owes Tom Brady a sponsored avocado tequila boat parade followed by a key to the city upon his departure. Whenever that is…
    Talking about serendipity….jeeesh

  4. Stone crab sam Says:

And kudos to this ownership group for standing up and keeping the entire band.

  5. Robert Says:

Just glad it’s a 4pm game and hope it’s on in S FL.

All TB’s games were on last year. Seems the NFL is doen with Brady for ratings.

  6. Jersey buc Says:

I like it. Unfortunately I don’t see the saints losing to the jets even with the full back playing QB

  7. JimBuc2 Says:

One game at a time, please. So, my main concerns vs Buffalo would be pass rush vs Josh Allen, and our secodary vs Stephon Diggs. The rest is gravy.
    Go Bucs

  8. Swampbuc Says:

I expect the Good Bills to show up Sunday. Hope BA Leftwich and Tom have another beautiful opening series script ready. And part of me thinks the Bills will come out and try to take away the run and short passing game, so a deep shot in the first drive might pay off.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

    Screw just making the playoffs.

They need to be laser-focused on winning out for a good shot at the #1 seed.

  10. crazyBucs_CL Says:

#1 seat NFC; too late, not on our hands anymore!
#2 seat NFC; too late, not on our hands anymore!
keep wining so we DON’T lose #3 seat. 🤨

  11. Tony Says:

I really don’t trust any of the NFC teams in the playoffs right now because any of them would be capable of beating them. Especially with their secondary so beat up. They’re probably gonna have to keep scoring at least 30 or more in the playoffs.

  12. Listnfrmafar Says:

Look out for Cole Beasely Sunday, he is the underneath guy and he’s pretty good. He’s also not vaccinated so after Sunday the entire team, refs, security, media & fans that attended the.game need to be quarantined for 10 days.

  13. Youngbucs Says:

    Hi Haters!!!!!

Another reason we dont take ya serious Pete. And here it is. Now we can start talking playoffs it’s possible this week! Hopefully the undefeated talk never comes back tho. Guess that was for the emotional crowd

  16. kyle Says:

pete did you see the road playoff wins last year? it doesnt matter, home game..meh we have tom brady, he can win anywhere..

  17. RPK Says:

I hope the coaching staff and players are dialed in on the importance of this Bills game. Win it, and the rest of the schedule is cake. I think the Bucs have a good shot at #1 seed in that case. Not worried about locking down the South at all. Bucs will finally beat the Slimy Saints at home next week.

  18. Tony Says:

Hey Kyle yes I do want to keep all the younger guys like Godwin around of course but I’m just hoping he doesn’t cost them too much to where he’s gonna have to leave. Especially when they have a bunch of FAs to resign, too! I don’t want him going anywhere either. I wanted him when he was coming out of Penn St. But the last thing I am is an idiot.

  19. Jerry Says:

    Thisisouryear!!,
We are tied with GB and ARZ is one game ahead.
If we win out, we likely need both those teams to lose 1 game to get home field. We could likely best ARZ in tie-breakers. It’s too soon to know for certain. But we probably will lose the tie break against GB. So we need the Packers to lose or they are probably going to get the #1 seed again. And we’ll have to beat them in Lambeau again to get to the Super Bowl.

That Washington loss is going to hurt.

  20. Aaron Says:

Yeah, I don’t like our match up this weekend. The Bills don’t care to run – so they’ll be in pass heavy mode with a Big mobile QB…not good for the Bucs.

The Bills can generate a pass rush without blitzing – not good for the Bucs.

If we come out and play “Our” game…we lose and we might get blown out.

I think we can win but we’ll need to actually scheme/ game plan. Meaning, On D, how about daring the Bills to run the ball..no need to sellout to stop the run. Play a 6 man box and play coverage..ignore the play-action pass. Keep Josh in the Pocket and get creative with Blitzing..

On O, run the Ball, run the Ball…Just like we did against the Colts.

    Go Bucs!!

  21. David Says:

I am just watching Cardinals and Packers because they both have a couple tough games left and need to lose while the Bucs keep winning.
That 1 seed would be a dream, at the very least a 2 seed is needed

  22. David Says:

As for the Bills game, I’m not sure what AARON is talking about. They don’t have a pass rush.
    They do create turnovers though.

Their offense is all about Josh Allen. They pass and he runs. Other than him they’re running game is not much.

  23. Anonymous Says:

I forgot to add, the bills do I have a damn good defense, one of the best in the NFL.
The Offense better be on their game

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bills were #5 O before Monday night and D was right up there to.

  25. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Gonna be a shootout! 54-45 Buccos!

Cards have a tough schedule to finish. They could very well lose a couple.

  26. Aaron Says:

I was going by Pressure rate not Sacks.

  27. SlyPirate Says:

I don’t think the Bucs need home field. I believe health is a better indicator of success.

I’d be for shelving the key contributors to ensure health over going all in for home field.

  28. Tony Says:

I wonder how many people have jumped off our bandwagon & back on the Patriots bandwagon now.🙄

  29. steele Says:

Don’t want to think about p-p-playoffs. I just want to see them win this game. Which will be difficult.

What has to happen for homefield? Why are we behind Arizona and Green Bay if we had the same record?

    —–

Conference wins. Bucs are 6-3 in the NFC, Cards are 6-2, Packers are 7-2.

The Cards obviously have the best record, so they’re #1. Should the Rams beat the Cards, then you get into deeper tie breakers since they’d be 6-3 – but if the Bucs win, Cards lose and the Packers win and all 3 have the same record, then the Packers would be #1 since they’d have the least number of conference loses.

The Cards will have to play the Cowboys and Rams, so it’s possible they stumble.

The Packers have to play a beat-up Browns and Raven teams, so they likely win those. Best chance for an upset could be the dumb Lions, which yeah, sounds stupid to say, but its a division foe, and it will be the Lions Super Bowl — I don’t think the Lions win it, but I also wouldn’t shocked since that’s how things seem to happen (albeit not for the Lions however).

Of course the Bucs have to take care of their own business and beat the Bills, or are this talk is worthless. Then on top of it, Arians has to show he can beat the stupid Saints. I think the Bucs just need to worry about themselves, what they don’t want is to be the 4th seed and playing the Rams in the first round.

  31. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

    Playoffs, playoffs,lol,run the damn ball,pass 3 times,,hey Tony,were still here,,go bucs

  32. Oneilbuc Says:

I hate banwagers all these Patriots fans need to go root for their own team. I think yall came on because yall thought Belichick couldn’t develop a quarterback or put a team together. Without Belichick their is no Brady because Belichick understands that defense wins championships more than a quarterback could help a team win a championship. He went to New England with 2 rings and everyone knows that it was more of defense that won those 2 superbowls in the 80s and 90s. Now all yall came on here bashing your coach because of Brady and now yall back on Belichick. Belichick is the greatest coach of all time .
